    Default Rage and UMD'ing

Having to drop rage everytime id like to use a heal scroll is annoying to say the least.
More importantly if i did that id be out of rages in about 2 minutes
That makes only pots ( SF included) a viable healing solution and umd on barb pretty much useless 99% of the time, granted it does help with item equiping.
My suggestion would be can we not have a mechanism to use UMD and rage at the same time, they changed tensors because it was useless as it was.
Im not askign for a blanket it works with no draw backs maybe have a seperate failure chance like with arcane failure and wearing heavy armour. You could even have barb enhancement lines to reduce the failure chance Maybe thats too much.
Or a UMD skill check at a minus x.

I'm going to have to disagree with this one. The whole concept behind barbarian rage is that you become uncontrollably angry, to the point where you can't focus on anything beyond burying your weapon of choice in the face of the nearest "friend". Using a scroll to heal, or just about any other magic item, requires a level of concentration and focus that is not possible while under the effects of barbarian rage.

    Default hulk getting angry....

Its not that i dont understand the concept of rage and im sure those that want to keep fidelity with D&D hate this idea but this is not d&d its ddo, many things have been changed that stray from the original d&d.
The only really effective/efficeint healing method is scrolling baring SF pots but they have a big draw back. You cant even use the helf healing dillys effectively on a barb.
The are many calls for players to be more self suffcient, on a barb building for umd is pretty much a waste if you are goign to be raged 99% of the time which i thinks limits players options. But hey i can understand if ppl dont like this idea it does break from traditional d&d.

I could get behind this if they changed the name from barbarian rage to barbarian miff. While miffed a barbarian would only gain a +1 to str and con and a -1 to diplo.

If you don't see other options then you aren't looking hard enough.
    • Clickies with healing effects like Epic Hammer of Life
    • Fast Healing (FotW)
    • Healing Spring (Shiradi)
    • Light the Dark (US)
    • Renewal (EA)
    • Vampirism weapons and temporary HP procs
    • Healing Amp (up to 30% human or 20+20% halfelf combined with 10/20/30 gear and 5/5/5 PLs)

Barbarians do a lot of DPS and there are costs, if you want to self heal then expect to lose some of that DPS.

Sorcerors do a lot of DPS and there are costs , if you want to self heal then expect to lose some dps ..oh wait no
Fighters do alot of DPS and there are costs, if you want to self heal then expect to lose some dps ..oh no wait
That arguement doesnt hold water and im fine with losing dps at the cost of sulf healing , like splashing rogue but without barbarian rage , its not a barbarian .
And regarding your source of healing ...all epic destinies or epic items what about pre 20 ?
    Vampirism I suppose, meh.
And im pretty sure clickies dont work when raged , i cant use my neckie for GH when raged.
Im well aware of healing amp but with pots its still a **** in the ocean and again the gear you talking about is mostly post 20. Yes im aware you can get healing amp on a shroud weapon but i wouldnt on a barb. Finger necklace is not bad but its only 10%.
There is no sound game playing reason to prevent barbs using UMD ( not for balance reasons anyway).
But fine if peeps dont want this to maintane some kinda d&d lore thing ..cool ..its not like i really like playing barbs anyway just for tr purposes and i'm not a fan of hirelings.
I like the barbarian miffed though

Per the SRD: "While raging, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride), the Concentration skill, or any abilities that require patience or concentration, nor can he cast spells or activate magic items that require a command word, a spell trigger (such as a wand), or spell completion (such as a scroll) to function. He can use any feat he has except Combat Expertise, item creation feats, and metamagic feats. A fit of rage lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the character’s (newly improved) Constitution modifier. A barbarian may prematurely end his rage."

DDO does not equal pnp but this function makes sense. I recommend going to http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian and look at the barb alternatives to implement instead of this lost cause.
