Our very small guild thanks you
how about fixing renown decay for large guilds so you do not penalize large casual guilds.
Lookin for sumthin to kill!!
When asked, "What are we going to do tonight?" the only acceptable answer is, "The same thing we do every night...Try to take over the world!"

The decay just needs to go. I have 3 members of my guild refusing to play because they don't have but a couple hours a week right now. If they log in, they will kick in their renown decay contributions. They are currently not causing any decay due to not logging in since May. They don't want to be kicked out of some of their guilds due to the decay factor combined with they have limited time at the moment. So the decay factor is actually causing Turbine to lose players.

To not play because of guild decay is just ignorant IMO. It wouldn't be a hard choice at all for me. Play and have no guild or don't play and have a guild.....
No offense or anything, just my opinion.
Bonuses are always nice, but for guilds that have stabilized at some level range, it just means watching your level go up a couple, then slowly slip away after the bonus is over to your prior level. I won't re-hash the decay topic since there is already a monster thread on the topic that never dies.
Ghallanda: Save the newbie, save the world.
First of all thanks for the Bonus!
As for renown and decay....
First the system punishes casual players and also new players as very few guilds will take in new untested players because they fear eventual renown decay from them. I don't think Turbine would want this, but they have done little to change it. The truth is, if you are a casual or new player you have little chance to be in a high level guild with cool stuff.
Second perhaps it is the idea of renown that we should get rid of. If renown is to measure 'fame' then it works. You don't get any fame by being casual. You get fame by slaying dragons and opposing evil forces. Perhaps there should be a different mechanic... guild experience maybe? maybe accomplishments? If we were measuring those we could just get rid of the decay factor.
For example lets look at the NFL .... In the renown/decay system (before last night) the NY Giants would of had the most renown, because they were the champs and the most current champs. They would be followed closly by the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints who had both won the Super Bowl in the previous 2 seasons. Past champions could not compete with their status because their victories would have suffered decay. Sorry New England but you haven't won the Super Bowl since 2005 - thats 7 years of Decay!
Now if we look at the NFL is an accomplishments system we would have different leaders. Pittsburgh would be top dog with 8 SB appearances and 6 wins! Dallas would be next with 8 appearances and 5 wins. New England has 7 appearances but only 4 wins. Maybe SF should be ahead of them with 5 appearances and 5 wins (nice feat to have never lost a super bowl... *tips hat*).
So, if the system was ever overhauled (*holds breath*) maybe an accomplishment sytem could be installed instead of a renown/decay system.
Keeping Guild Renown as a competitive system, as the designers planned it, requires decay. Because without some form of decay everyone who had any desire to be would be in level 100 guilds already. People have already rushed a one person guild to 100 in a single week. Granted it will be harder without that event still going on, but the principle remains; it is not hard to generate renown if you want to. Without decay there is no point in even having guild levels.
How about we get rid of ship buffs altogether, and rebalance dungeons accordingly. Solves all the problems.
Keep guild levels for those who seek status and glory. And maybe even have Navigators which take you to more interesting places as you progress through the levels. But the ship buffs in my view trivialise a lot of content which, without ship buffs can be incredibly difficult.
Bonus Days are a misnomer. There are no bonus for the likes of us. Decay is a harsh Mistress that takes everything away in the days that follow. If you want to equitably reward guilds of all size and activity level then give us discounted airship amenities or something similar.
Imo, it would greatly help with many of the issues that guilds have if the bonuses worked opposite of how they currently work. Tiny guilds would get no bonuses, whereas large guilds (50+ active accounts) would get the full 300% bonus to their renown. The decay formulas would stay how they are. In my opinion, this is fair because you are trading off reduced decay for increased renown gain. Giving BOTH reduced decay AND increased renown gain to small guilds is unfair and encourages people to be exclusive, which stifles the sense of community.
This solution probably wouldn't completely relieve the problems that large guilds have with decay at very high levels, but it would greatly assist with the problem.
1. Why not? Seriously, I have a day job already. What's wrong with a game that isn't structured around a "work regularly or get penalized" model?
2. In particular, what's wrong with the common model where active guilds get benefits quite a lot faster, but even a small guild will eventually get there?
Yes, that seebs.
Not having fun anymore? Learn to play, noob!
the guild rn system does penalize guilds with casual players ..some people have to work alot to support thier familys ..so they can play only a few hrs a week ..but thier love of the game is just as much as someone who has more time to play and one could argue that the guy working 60-70hrs a week needs the play time more..a guild expecialy a large one provides bonuses for undergeared under experienced players and more social interaction
more importantly it provides people to quest with whenever one of these hard workers can get time to play
by lessening the penaltys for large casual guilds turbine might retain more players and get more people to subscribe or buy from the store..
making money is what this is all about, turbine is in the business of selling fun for money..
declining people from your guild or booting people because they cant pay thier way is not fun for anyone
