So, a month or so ago I'm approached via the forums, and in game to join a guild. A rather high level guild. Being a "casual" household, but wanting the opportunity to run with "guildies" and learn some raids, I was tempted. Time went on, with the occasional recruitment offer, and I kept mulling it over. I doubted we would make a good fit in this guild, and made my concerns known. I was assured casual playstyle was more than acceptable and there were "many" players in this guild like us...heck, there's even recruitment threads saying exactly that...ala so-and-so just got there 1st ever piece of raid-loot. Tells...In-game mail...and forum PM's went back and forth detailing exactly the many packs we own...our playstyle...and the fact that I had a teenage son who was NOT planning on joining. Many assurances were made, and in fact, it was insisted upon that he come with as well. So we took the plunge, and the three of us joined this guild.
I knew immediately there was something wrong. There were 6 active account in the guild when we joined. That's right....six whole accounts in a guild whose recruitment to this day states guild raid runs. Where were the "many" casual players? Where was all the described guild runs? where was any fun? I come to find, the previous "casual" player was just booted for admittedly screwing up a shroud run...ding ding ding <----those are the signs of warning bells. This players friend soon left over the incident to a shrug by the guild leader, who obviously did not care one bit. Guild chat is non-existent...in fact any form of socialization via guild chat is strictly prohibited and considered a bootable offense. All the things that were in fact advertising points were absolutely lies...no polite way of saying it...no other way to judge it...lies.
I learned quite quickly that "casual" and "guild runs" were in fact codes for "TR zerg" and just do nothing and stand there while I solo the quest (there's even posts on these forums telling me to do exactly that!). Do not learn. Do not do anything to jeapordize my 10%. And never run a quest you're not precicesly not 2 levels above...and never on any other difficulty than elite, even to learn a quest never run before..."IF" you catch me in between lives (the last one he sat at cap for 30 minutes) I will offer to run an epic or a RAID with you...but ignore you if you say yes, and immediatly TR anyhow. Then...tell me how there is no way I can run an Epic Lord of Dust, so he's not going to bother trying it with us. Two days latter, each of us successfully pugged this...without all of the "needed" guild help. I was also told that this is the "hardest" epic quest in the game...obviously not true..lol In fact, I never knew about the post trick for the final fight, and now I'm confident that we should be able to 3-man it ourselves.
We're not upset, and we are not surprised...the writing was on the wall from day 1. I am confused at the gross misrepresentation of the guild, and the immediate griefing upon joining. This was a month long "courtship", so all parties knew exactly what they were getting in to. We Three were expelled with the only explanation of "we don't own enough packs...we don't except under 18yr olds...and the guild is taking a new direction of raiding and epics only" All things discussed as few as two weeks ago in open forums.
So, we'll be in the market for a true "drama-light" guild that's friendly and likes to run with each other. More than likely, we will just be a few of those wierdo's you see running capped toons with no guild, because quite honestly, this has left a bad taste in my mouth. I find it ridiculous.
