The Knights of the Silver Dragon (KotSD) are recruiting!

The Knights of the Silver Dragon, is primarily an east coast based guild of mature adult players that have called Thelanis home since 2006. We put a lot of focus on social interaction and teamwork. We have three scheduled guild nights a week, and run ad-hoc guild events as well. Our members are spread across several time zones, so we tend to have players online during most hours of the day.
We are very organized in the way we plan, schedule and communicate, but we are very relaxed in the way we play the game. Our members have a very broad range of experience and skills, but we all have one thing in common; we enjoy each other’s company. We don’t “just” tolerate each other, or “just” share an airship. We actually like playing DDO together.

Now for the details……………..
- Must be an adult, or be sponsored by an adult member that knows you in real life.
- Must use a microphone – Period!
- Must provide your real name and a valid email address to the recruitment officer.
- Must provide your state (or country) and time zone to the recruitment officer.
- Must sign up for the guild website after being recruited.
- Must log into DDO at least once every six months, and finally,
- Must not be a jerk or a drama queen!
NOTE: The reasons for our membership requirements will become evident as you read the detailed sections below.
We are a relaxed group of adults that enjoy the game. We are casual in our interaction with each other, but we don’t approach the game casually. But we’re not power gamers either. We’re somewhere in the middle. We try to work as a team to tackle the content while still having fun. On new or unfamiliar content, we tend to take it slow and immerse ourselves in the story line. On older content that has been repeated “ad-nausium”, we tend to move faster and focus more on completion. A brisk pace is not a zerg run. We don’t leave people behind. If the demographic of the group is mixed, we tend to slow things down to the comfort level of the least experienced player. That way no one is robbed of experiencing the “magic” of a first or unfamiliar run. Overall the play style varies based on the group demographic and the quest we run.
The average age range of our membership is between 30 and 45 years old. Currently the youngest is 22 and the oldest is 63. While our age requirement is only that you be an “adult”, you will likely fit in better if you are a bit older than the minimum threshold.
Sponsorship of minors:
Many of our guild members have children, and a few of them have grandchildren. This sponsorship program is primarily to allow those members to play with their children while doing so within the structure of the guild. This program means that there are “real world” consequences to bad behavior online. Minors are placed at a lower priority for scheduled guild events unless accompanied by their sponsor. There are no kids in the guild that are not sponsored.
We play the game to have fun! Arguing, complaining, harassment and other forms of distress take away from the experience and will not be tolerated. We completely understand that life can hit hard, but this isn't life. This is a game and we make terrible babysitters and even worse psychologists.
We like friendly people and getting to know our members on a first name basis. New members should feel right at home, speak up, chime in and join in the fun! We spend a lot of time talking during the quests, whether it be formulating strategies to tackle the latest challenge, groaning over (sometimes seriously) bad humor, talking about something we've recently watched or sharing a favorite food recipe. Having a headset is extremely beneficial to making the most out of these experiences.
Helpful & Knowledgeable:
We are prepared to answer any and all questions on the game in a friendly easy to understand manner. Nobody comes into DDO knowing everything about the game and we get that. If our members need to know the answer to something, all they have to do is ask.
We are a very active guild with a number of our members logging on to play the game daily. Though we don't require all of our members to eat, sleep, and breathe DDO, active participation with the guild on a regular basis is strongly encouraged to help us reach our in-game goals and bolster the social aspect of the guild.
Each officer has a specific duty or event they are in charge of. They will solicit input via the website, polls or email, and will set up an RSVP for their events. They are in charge of scheduling events on their night, managing the RSVP and getting things started. They will generally be the one sending out invites at the designated start time. They will also solicit volunteers to lead the night’s activities. If no one volunteers, they will lead the group for that night.
We don’t have many officers and we don’t use the officer moniker as a status symbol. It’s more of a job or duty. Officers have complete authority over their given events. Current officers are listed in the “demographics” post below.
We run scheduled guild nights three nights a week. Every scheduled guild night has a dedicated officer in charge of planning the event and a target level range for inclusion. Scheduled guild nights are as follows:
- LLGN (Low level guild night) – levels 6-9 – Alternating Mondays
- MLGN (Mid-level guild night) – levels 10-15 – Alternating Mondays
- HLGN (High level guild night) – levels 16-20 – Alternating Wednesdays
- EN (Epic Night) – level 20-25 – Alternating Wednesdays
- RN (Raid Night) – level 10-20 – Alternating Fridays
- ERN (Epic Raid Night) – levels 20-25 – Alternating Fridays
In addition to scheduled guild nights, we also run the occasional “ad-hoc” guild events. These include anything from special events such as Mabar or Crystal Cove, to family nights or the occasional contest. Ad-hoc events vary widely and can be hosted by any member of the guild.

Since most of our members are busy professionals, it makes life a lot easier for them if their game time is known, predictable, and recurring. Some of us play every day, so it’s not an issue. Others have to work to fit DDO into their lifestyle. A structured approach to scheduling helps make this possible.
We also think it is important that the guild support our members through all levels of gameplay. Not just end game content. Scheduling different level ranges on a recurring basis makes this possible.
The cornerstone of a successful guild is players working together as a team. For that to happen, players need to be familiar with each other, develop friendships and build camaraderie. The larger the guild, the more difficult this becomes. It doesn’t happen on its own. One of the tools we use to help members become familiar with each other is the guild roster. We publish and distribute (via the email system below) a guild roster in PDF format every few months, so that our members can see who owns what character and who is in their time zone. It helps them “connect the dots” so that they can figure out who is who. Below is an example of how a player is listed on the PDF roster:
NOTE: The use of time zone information is very helpful to our members not located North America.
We communicate using a combination of website forums and an email distribution system.
Our website is www.kotsd.org
. It is a private, member’s only site hosted by guildportal. This is the social center of our guild. Message forums include anything from character build assistance, contests details, crafting, scheduling specifics, screenshots, trades and other DDO discussions, as well as topics outside of the game.
We have a dedicated email distribution system set up on a MS Exchange server. This allows us to add a member’s email address to the list so that officers can send email updates and/or notifications to the entire guild without individual email addresses being seen. This protects the privacy of the members and insures that once a member leaves the guild, he doesn’t take everyone’s email address with him. We use this system primarily for guild wide notifications and periodic distribution of the PDF roster and New Member’s Guide. We also use this as one of our contact methods for recruitment (see below).

– The easiest way! Just send us an email at email@example.com
and tell us a little about yourself, your play style, character names and when you will likely be online. An officer will respond, list your character names in his friends list and look for you in-game to chat and set up a mandatory screening run.
- You may also contact one of our Guild Officers in-game using the “tell” command, but given our high number of alts, contact using this method may prove problematic and a higher degree of patience may be required.
Unless we know you in real life, you can expect a screening run with one of our officers. What we are looking for is compatibility. We aren’t too concerned about how good your character is, or how much experience you have. We are looking at your personality. We want to know if you will fit in and have a good time. We also understand that screening is a two way process and you are screening us as well. It gives us both an opportunity to feel each other out and answer any questions you may have.
