    Default Elven Assassin

Does anyone happen to know of a elf assassin build with great dps and enough trap disabling skills to make it even in epics? I have been trying to make a good flavor build for a challenge, and I haven't found one yet.

Not many people build elf rogues that I've seen. It's be just what you said "flavor". If you are going to take the penalty to con you may as well pick up another +2 DC via Drow.

There really wouldn't be much to building a elf assassin. I'd go:

    16 str
    16 dex
    14 con
    14 int (14+2 tome +5 levels +2 capstone +2 exceptional +1 exceptional= 26 or 28 w/ ship) 39 dc or 41 eMG
    8 wis
    8 cha

Your choice on str/dex based (Str is my preference)
    Levels into int
    IC:Piercing
Rock a eMG for trash when needed.

DC is a bit low, but if you've got an improved cursespewer you should be able to make it work.

You don't see a lot of elven rogues posted because they're not the best choice of races; and TBH not enough has changed about elves or rogues in ages to merit posting new builds. But they work fine if you don't care about minmaxing. Trap skills has more to do with your gear & buffs than your build; as long as you remember to max your ranks, you're fine.

So basically you gave him lower to-hit/damage (via buffs to str) and lower assassinate DC's... Smooth, honestly I would have thought you would lay something better out than I. Anyone can figure out a general gear set and enhancement spread.

Is half-elf elf enough for you? Elf is about the worst choice for an assassin while half-elf is about the best. You've got enough problems on a first life rogue without compounding low HP issues by choosing a squishy race without any benefits.

Unfortunetely, I haven't bought Half Elf yet. I'm not all that interested in it, to be honest, even with the benefits. I try to avoid using mainstream racial builds in order to keep my individuality rather than feel cookie cutterish.

I did take Finesse, so I don't know where you get "lower to-hit" from. STR-based is also possible...but frankly if you're gonna gimp yourself by being an elf, might as well fully embrace the gimp flavor.

Maybe you could make him a Drow and then select the least Drow-like skin/eye/hair colors during character gen and just pretend he's a regular Elf?

I do not know what the min maxers are talking about. An elven assassin is still more dps than 90% of the alternatives.

Just keep in mind, to hit will be challenged. So build your gear layout accordingly. It will be a little different than a different alternatives.

There has been a trend lately with str/dex based weapons instead of just str based. Envenomed blades come to mind. I bet someone could pull off a decent dex based assassin. Wouldn't be optimal, but I bet it could be viable now.

You have piqued my curiosity ... what "alternatives" are in that 90%?

Totally possible to play a DEX rogue; but those weapons aren't exactly plentiful ... the road to them could be rough. That said, they often provide full DEX to the offhand (and not half-STR as is the norm for off-hand).
