    Default Dragonmarked elf stalwart shadow

This is based loosely upon http://my.ddo.com/character/thelanis/Ossara a dragonmarked 12monk/7fighter/1wiz who uses shortswords & is something of a flavour build, yet i've found her to be surprisingly effective - approx 650hp, 9 extended CL20 displacements per rest, AC will be approx 70 with CE active once i get my rad2 SS made (i never count all the temprorary clicky buffs when doing my calculations.. yeah 900hp is nice but for only 20secs at once? ooo impressive..). Unfortunately i can't actually remember exactly how i built her

Nevertheless, heres an adapted & more conventional punchy version with touch of death etc.

The concept of the build is to have good damage-dealing capabilities coupled with a nice amount of survivability - decent AC, displacements & shadow fade all contribute to making her pretty hard to hit, improved evasion gives a nice degree of resistance against AoEs & traps, the wizard level is some handy buffs through wands & extend spell (for the dragonmarks) & good HP because, well, you're gonna get hit sometimes regardless

earth stance 3 allows for the higher durability, handy extra crit multiplier & aggro generation if you want to tank, wind stance for speedy attacks.

As for skills, theyre pretty much to taste - you could make this into a pretty effective intimitank, or an excellent sneaker, or whatever else you fancy putting the points in.

Have done more than my fair share of DMed elf builds, I salute you.

What's WF:Blunt & Cleave for? Why not add, say, Stunning Blow & Imp Sunder instead?

Any chance you have artificer? If so, could do monk 12 / ftr 6 / arty 2 for UMS and W&S Mastery I.

be nice, i only put this together in about 10mins remembering what i could..

cant remember exactly y i chose wf blunt, stunning blow would indeed likely be better... cleave is cos i like it for gathering a chunk of ki & applying special weapon effects to a group at once - a multi-PK cleave with thaarak wraps just gives me a tingly happy feeling

arty could be an interesting choice too, not sure about the 2 levels of it tho - 7th fighter level was to get 3d tier of haste boost which is pretty useful.

Still, going 12monk/7fighter/1arty would be handy.. would have to drop a feat somewhere else to fit in extend spell (which i consider rather central to the build's durability boost), however yeah having UMD to a usable level would be rather nice & add extra scroll/wand healing capability... thanks a lot, now i have to restrain myself from going out and LRing her...

Ok, rather truncated but an updated version in light of the changes for the expansion (& some changes to Ossara on live now):

    12monk/6fighter/2 arty
    starting stats 16/16/13/10/14/8
+3 tomes all the way (the only really essential one is INT for CE, though could drop wis to 13 & put int at 11 to begin if you dont have access to the +3 tome)
    feats:
    3xdragonmarks
    2wf/i2wf/g2wf
    toughness
    sf:umd
    dodge
mobility (or maybe great cleave, depends on defence or offence focus)
    PA
    cleave
    combat expertise
IC:blunt (Ossara is shortsword user & with ninja spy doesnt need IC, so took extend in place of this on her)

enhancements would be much the same, the character should have a nice combination of dodge chance, concealment (especially with displacement being self only now), ac & some PRR, plus decent HPs, good healing amp & sufficient UMD for no-fail heal (plus other spells) scrolls at 20th (with a little judicious item of persuasion crafting) plus the use of some handy buff wands.

Another amendment could be 12monk/6fighter/2arty which would lose haste boost 3 but gain arty wand & scroll mastery for boosts to that.

A different race could work well too, presumably without dragonmarks which would free up 3 feats for whatever else.. possible combos i've thought of include half elf with cleric dilly (at first, then moving to rogue once UMD high enough), pretty much any other race could work well too with a slightly different flavour.

    addendum:
Now u14 is here, i plan to twist in momentum swing & lay waste from legendary dreadnought then spend most of the time in grandmaster of flowers destiny for those handy monk-related bonuses. Ultimately with maxed destinies though you make one with very strong defensive characteristics by twisting out standing with stone & perfect balance from GMoF then improved combat expertise from dreadnaught, and staying in sentinel destiny in the unbreakable stance, which would net you something in the region of 70ish PRR & be a surprisingly effective tank.

    Addendum2:
Switching out SF:umd for great cleave on my shortsword version, thus allowing me to take imp crit at 21 in order to qualify for overwhelming criticals at 24.

Since I enjoy the character the original build above was based on so much, i've decided to TR a 2nd character into something very similar, adapted for quarterstaffs, since I already have a Sireth & a walking stick on it See below for the updated build:

    Repair:3, Search:5, Spot:5, Swim:6, Tumble:26, UMD:23
At level 21, take epic toughness, then at 24 final stat point in STR & take overwhelming criticals.

Enhancements Ninja Spy 2, Stalwart Defender 1 & assorted other stuff like toughness... for monk animal stance i tend to favour clever monkey for the elemental resistances. Earth stance 3 for combat to give more durability & the extra critical multiplier. For main destiny, will probably be legendary dreadnaught for the extra criticals & nice damage-dealing attacks, though on the original i've also had a lot of fun with fatesinger.

The build is made to be almost exclusively a staff-user thats quick, mobile, hard to hit with physical attacks or magic & has a decent HP buffer to absorb some hurt when it does get hit, though admittedly can't stand up well to a sustained beating if the enemy can get through the displacement & incorporeality.

Based on the original character http://ddocrafting.info/myddo/thelanis/Ossara/ at level 25 with relatively easy gear to get hold of it should have AC in the 60s, about 18% dodge chance, 22+ PRR & 700+ HP before taking into account any destiny abilities & better (as in the character linked above) once it has some of the better gear.
