I fail to see what this offers your friend that a conventional pure AA ranger does not. [Especially since you "wasted" the wiz bonus feat on Mental Toughness.] I also don't understand why you went DEX-based. Finally, D/M/SotR and Iron Will seem like wasted feats; why not take a couple of melee feats instead?

Plus, you can get mental toughness at lv 4 when you get spellcasting abilities. Theres absolutely no need for the wizzy level.

    Into light, into darkness, surely.

    Default Some suggestions

    Hi,

As mentioned above, you don't need that wizard level. You can get mental toughness as a regular feat choice.

I wouldn't recommend you take dodge, mobility, iron will or shot on the run. Two of those are prereqs for the tempest line, but your ranger is an AA so he doesn't need them. None of those feats are terribly useful in their own right, and more useful alternatives are available. IC slash and power attack are two which come to mind, and maximize or empower healing are great for boosting self-healing. As a human, he might even be able to fit in EWP: Khopesh.

Stat points spend; even for an archer, you don't need that much DEX, 16 should be enough with gear and class points; 18 provides a marginal improvement but the cost in points to spend on other attributes is high.

Don't spend any points on WIS either, and put what you have left over into STR. You need a high STR to do good damage with a bow too. The toon will be able to meet the WIS requirements for casting level 4 spells with a +6 item, so don't worry about starting with an 8 in that stat, it will be fine. You could do 16/16/15/8/8/8 with four level-ups into STR and one into CON. .

Skill points; the value of spending points on concentration is arguable. If you move around in combat when you need to cast a spell, you are unlikely to be interrupted. Some will argue for it, I haven't found it necessary. Put at least one point in tumble too.

Lastly, the toon you've built doesn't seem to have much to fall back on when using the bow is not the right choice in combat. Which it often isn't. With the changes mentioned above you will have a toon which is a good archer and also has a decent level of ability in melee.

The suggestions I've provided here are not the only way to do things, of course, but they're meant to help you avoid making some of the worse mistakes with putting together a ranger. I hope they help. Good luck with the toon, and if you want more information about how to build an effective ranger, there's plenty to be found on the forums.
