On my lvl 11 enchanter wizzie my DC for Sleep reads as 36 and Deep Slumber has 30.
I do have heighten on. I do have a ring of enchant focus +2. My INT mod is +10.
According to wiki, "A saving throw against your spell has a DC of 10+the level of the spell+your bonus for the relevant Ability." So, a basic spell save DC for any lvl spell with heighten on is computed for my wizard as:
10 + 6 (highest level I can cast) +10 = 26. Add +2 for my ring gives me 28. Add feat SF:Enchant +1 = 29. Add +1 Archmage spell mastery enchant +1 = 30.
Now for what some may already see coming:
Question 1: Why is my save DC for Sleep showing as 36, but Deep Slumber is (apparently correctly) showing as 30? I'm assuming Sleep's 36 is a display error because I can't account for 6 more points there at all.
Question 2 setup: From Update 9 official release notes:
Deep Slumber DC = spell's save DC (30 in my case)
Sleep DC = spell's save DC - creature's HD or lvl + your Caster Level
So, my sleep DC SHOULD be [(30-creature HD or lvl) + 11]
Assuming kobold CR 1 enemy: [(30 -1) + 11] = 40.
Assuming orc CR 11 enemy: [30 -11) + 11] = 30.
Assuming ogre CR 15 enemy: [(30 -15) + 11] = 26.
Assuming giant CR 30 enemy: [(30 - 30) + 11] = 11.
For Deep Slumber:
Assuming kobold CR 1 enemy: 30
Assuming orc CR 11 enemy: 30
Assuming ogre CR 15 enemy: 30
Assuming giant CR 30 enemy: 30
Those assumptions show that for an equal level CR enemy, either Sleep or Deep Slumber will do the job, since there is no longer a HD cap on either spell, both have same duration, same casting speed, and casting cost.
So, my Question 2: is that display error showing 6 more DC on Sleep just a bug? Or is Sleep truly 6 higher DC than Deep Slumber, making the level 1 spell more noticeably more viable for more adventuring levels?
