    Default Fighter/Monk build. Thoughts?

    I'm TR'ing my monk soon, and wanted to get my Fighter life done. At first I thought of doing an AA, but when I ran it through the character builder, there was several levels where it was less than optimal, even though it was decent at the end.

    Then I thought I would stick with a melee monk, since I already have some gear for it. I'm not sure how long this build will remain at 20, although I feel it probably won't be too long. I threw rogue in there for the UMD and trap skills, on top of a light monk for utility, and SD II for survivability.

    I've never built anything like this before, but I'm fairly sure I've seen it in-game. I'd welcome thoughts on its viability, as well as thoughts on changes that should be made. Some of the AP spent, for example, I really couldn't think of what to spend it on, hence the improved _____s. Would it be more effective as a Kensai maybe? Any idea how well my current umd and trap skills would perform endgame? (Assume the only epic is the f2p one, as my vip ended and I no longer have any epics unlocked)

    EDIT: Another thought, Is it reasonable to reach a fair amount of AC on this thing, or just mostly damage mitigation? I'm willing to rework it a bit if I can reach a reasonable AC for 1-19, seeing as epic won't matter much.

    EDIT2: Slight variant, swaps to half elf for cleric dilly, drops UMD for trap skills.

    Default Monk/Fighter

    If it is just for your TR toon I find it easiest to go 6 monk out of the gate using dark path for 25% incorporeality from shadow fade. Go half elf cleric dilletante and forget the rogue levels and UMD completely since they are only worthwhile at 20ish. At level 1 with cleric dilletante you can use cure critical wands and leveling 1-6 as a monk your AC should be outstanding.

    Go 6 fighter next so you can pick up an extra 3 AC at level 12 from SD and you should be straight on content through gianthold. By using the Sirens Belt/Neck, Chaosguarde, and a protection 5 cloak with CE you should be sitting around 45ish AC depending on starting dex/wisdom for Elite Streaking through gianthold.

    At 16 you can switch to tier 2 frozen tunic from cannith challenges and the 3 dodge bracers for some more AC.

    As a 12/8 Split you get 1d10 fists ninjaspy 1(No ToD) fighter kensei 2 or SD 2 if you want to AC tank and can sit in earthstance for an extra 10% damage reduction.

    I have thought about switching from Human to Helf and dumping UMD. The Rogue levels are also for traps, however, not just UMD. If I do drop UMD, I certainly could max search and DD, as well as putting more points in OL and spot.

    The Light path monk levels are for utility as well as damage vs undead.

    I'll have to tweak the build a bit I think.

    Man, it's going to be rough keeping trap skills up no matter what; fighters get fewer skill points than monks, and monks don't get many.

    Besides, you can't swing a dead kobold without hitting an artificer these days. Let them take care of the traps.

    It will be impossible to keep trap skills relevant the second you start taking fighter anyway. Monk gives 1d6 from ninja spy 1 sneak attack damage and you got fighter for haste boost. You would be much better off going 1 or 2 Art for UMD because of the plus 2 to umd skill rolls from art would qualify you for AA if you wanted to try bows out and would give you a better wand and scroll mastery.

    I went with neither because I hate planning for UMD and its never of any use untill 20 with gear swapping. Cleric dilletante gave me rez scroll usage at lvl 10 and no fail heal scrolls at 15 while being able to max out intimidate each level and having 10 or so jump 10 or so concentration and spot in the high teens for sensing traps/ seeing hiding enemies from afar.

    6ninja/12 stalwart is a fun combo. Its nice for leveling as you can keep good dps and useable defense.

    But - Hamstring? Really?

    Exactly. Besides, what else was I going to take?

    Also, I thought about ninja, but I felt light monk was a better route to go because of the massive utility offered. Every buff on there is awesome. I can help keep and entire party going strong with each, not to mention moment of clarity will help with traps.

    If I wanted ninja, I probably would have went kensei, and grabbed haste boost and the like.

    On a side note, do Rogue skill boost and Human Versa stack?

    Transferred this guy to Llama land today and capped it. Even with the gear he was using at level 4 (I capped him after gear handouts were just about done for the day, so I didn't get any), he still had almost 500 health with just his 2 stances on (SD2 and Earth 2). Not too shabby. TO hit was only around +30 for primary hit, so that needs some help.

    But I figure once I get him some basic gear (+6 items, GFL, 45HP GS, etc.), he should do nicely. And when I get him epic gear, he should REALLY shine.

    I've yet to take him out on any raids or the like (Not happening with current gear lol), but overall, I'm pleased with how the build turned out. We'll see what happens when he's geared. :P
