    I don't use the flame arrow spell with Uzy, and wouldn't likely do it with any other build that has access to the spell. It requires you to have the appropriate ammo in your inventory; in this case, that would be both arrows and bolts.

    Instead, when I do use flame arrows--which is probably not as often as I should--I use the flame arrow wands. They don't require you to have regular arrows or bolts in your inventory, despite the explanatory text on the wand. Also, with your arty levels, you will also get a small chance to retain charges on these wands.

    I may have missed a thread or post, but as far as I can tell, wax_on's monkcher thread http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=351118 gives more detail than the Honk Kong Pewy threads in terms of specific enhancements, use of 10k stars, and suggested equipment. See the second post in that thread. It is also a 34 point build, which should be easy for you to adapt to what you need. I would change the level progression just a little by taking one or two levels of monk after taking the first level in ranger, and that way you will have access to handwraps and monk stances (and one or two monk bonus feats) up front, but that's just me.

    very strong build, mine is a little different tho, i went 6art/6monk/6ranger(switch out 8 ranger and 8 monk on lives for trs and the xtra damage past life feats), final build going 8art/6ranger/6monk, other than the tr past life advantages, rams might has the odd benefit of increasing repeater damage (and all other weapons) that many overlook.

    one funny combo is to melee a high health boss for some ki, throw a monk lighning debuff on him, use a lighning mote scroll and manyshot/fusilade/10kstars lightning strike ranged weapons, brutal...

    Disclaimer: I still havent actually tested carefully if motes stack with monk elemental debuffs.

    Disclaimer 2: Ive laid off leveling this build til jun because i expect the enhancement changes to nerf if, tends to happen a lot to intelligently built multiclass dps builds. At the very least i suspect ill have to go from halfelf to full elf since they insinuated halfelf multis would require a lot of ap, likely killing this combo(i went half elf for rog sneak damage, very strong on ranged speed builds).

    Just wanted to mention that for Uzy VI & VII, you don't actually lose total ki when switching to repeater at endgame. Instead, when you switch to a repeater, you get a winddown of -4 ki. This is helpful to know, for example, if you are buffing your weapons for anticipated gameplay. You won't lose (much) reserve ki if you switch in and out of the repeater quickly enough.

    I said a while back that I wouldn't come up with any more Uzy builds. Well, I lied :P Well, at least in a way I have; that is, I haven't really come up with any more successful Uzy builds, but I have continued to try every now and then when inspiration strikes.

    Anyway, the point of this particular post is to share some interesting recent rejects. I'm thinking that someone else is bound to come up with something similar, and this way I can save them some time and hassle.

    The first reject here is also actually fairly viable. It is 2F/6A/12M. All the basics are there as far as an Uzy/Monkcher build goes.

    PROS:
    *You get manyshot, 10k stars, and endless fusillade already at level 13.
    *Good improved recovery, UMD, etc.
    CONS:
    *No Monk preE's! (simply couldn't find room for dodge feat.)
    *No GTWF (Not so bad on a ranged build, even wax_on has suggested this as a possibility on his monkchers.)

    The other failure--a complete one--was to make "Uzy the Bowbarian" 2F/6A/12B. Unfortunately, one cannot get both the Battle Engineer and Frenzied lines on the same build; they both require their own class's damage boost, which are mutually exclusive. Also, the Frenzied enhancement is too expensive in terms of feats, as it requires cleave. Don't even know if I could have fit in all the enhancements even if they weren't mutually exclusive.

    Default UZY X -- Classic "Monkcher" focus with 10k stars, MS, EF, and modest buffs

    I was reviewing the Uzy X build. I realized that I can take two levels of ranger rather than two levels of fighter to get three feats--bow str, twf, and rapid shot--rather than merely two. That means I am able to add dodge as a feat in order to gain Ninja Spy I & II.

    That also means that Uzy X can be promoted to another Uzy build. I think the enhancements might be tweaked a bit, but otherwise it is fairly solid. One nice thing about this build -- which is like an Uzy VI and VII in that it has 10k stars, manyshot, and endless fusillade -- is that you get all three already at level 14. I'm not sure yet what the gameplay will be like as you level in terms of using the xbow, longbow and melee, but this will of course change things. However, the general notes regarding the other Uzy builds still apply:

    *Since Uzy has quick draw, swapping between weapons is nearly instantaneous, and
    **as long as you have conjured bolts or arrows, gameplay will automatically load the corresponding ammo of either xbow or longbow** meaning
    ***there is really no need to fiddle with opening inventory, opening, unloading/loading quivers, etc.*** and
    ****switching weapons is a breeze***
    *Because **Uzy can conjure bolts and arrows, or use a fire arrow wand/spell to bring about fire bolts and arrows, **
    ***managing ammo is a breeze***
    *conjured arrows are infinite and can be imbued with force, acid, fire, fear, and slaying, so there is rarely need or reason to use fire arrows (though, where optimal, there's nothing preventing you from using them).*
    *fire arrows will automatically load/reload when arcane arrows are removed from your inventory.*
    *conjured bolts are finite, and if you bring about fire bolts via wand/spell, they will automatically load when you fully exhaust your conjured bolts* which means that
    *you should simply not conjure bolts when you expect good procs from fire bolts (you enter the troll lair), then bring about several fire bolts via wand/spell, and gameplay will automatically load the fire bolts--this can all be done without ever opening up inventory.*
    *Uzy switches to handwraps to build ki for 10k stars and to provide blunt damage on oozes and skellies, and in such cases you may need to reenter a stance in order to capitalize on monk stances; however, your reasoning should simply be that using xbows is like another monk stance that grants you xbow use and costs all of your existing ki; it's really as simple as that; use this "stance" when ki is <=7; when you reason that way you will also appreciate that it is merely one click on the xbow icon to enter that "stance" fully equipped with an xbow.
    *Uzy can cast the Byeshk Weapons or Adamantine Weapons spells on any weapon, which should facilitate overall inventory management.
    *The training dummy takes on a whole new meaning with Uzy. You can use it to optimize and practice your cycles between longbow, xbow, or melee. It will help you put your clickies in the ideal place. The dummy is now your friend! The next option, of course, is to do slayers, where you can put theory into practice.
    *You may want to use flame arrow wands rather than the spell. The wands don't require you to have regular arrows or bolts in your inventory, despite the explanatory text on the wand. Also, with your arty levels, you will also get a small chance to retain charges on these wands.

    I've been following UZY VI and enjoyed it so far (at lvl9 currently) with a Ranger past life 34point build.

    I just looked at UZY X and there seem some considerable benefits that are making me think about LR+5 :

    GAIN

    Quickdraw and rams would be the only things I'd really miss by lesser reincarnating I'd say. I've not been having many issues with to-hit (thus far of course) so don't know of the benefits of faithful hound over patient tortoise - did you find it necessary for later level questing?

    I've been using the Barb Half-elf Dilettante for the DR and HP (a nice 270 at lvl9 with DR2/-) - my question is does the Rogue Dilettante II sneak attack damage stack with Ninja Spy II sneak attack damage?

    i.e. are you/would you see an initial 6d6 sneak attack?

    I'm currently soloing you see so the hitpoints are useful and as sneak attack is only within 15 meters I'm undecided on this point. Normally I'm ranging from maximum distance so the SA would never trigger anyway and there's no aggro deferment to get sneaks in should they get closer (unless I took bluff and possibly used deception or sacrificed something for Improved Feint) I will hopefully be duoing with another monkcher guildie so we may be able to switch SA between us when tougher mobs close in. I've been lazy and just stood and took any hits most times for trash mobs; only kiting for bosses.

    Quickdraw and rams would be the only things I'd really miss by lesser reincarnating I'd say. I've not been having many issues with to-hit (thus far of course) so don't know of the benefits of faithful hound over patient tortoise - did you find it necessary for later level questing?

    I've been using the Barb Half-elf Dilettante for the DR and HP (a nice 270 at lvl9 with DR2/-) - my question is does the Rogue Dilettante II sneak attack damage stack with Ninja Spy II sneak attack damage?

    i.e. are you/would you see an initial 6d6 sneak attack?

    I'm currently soloing you see so the hitpoints are useful and as sneak attack is only within 15 meters I'm undecided on this point. Normally I'm ranging from maximum distance so the SA would never trigger anyway and there's no aggro deferment to get sneaks in should they get closer (unless I took bluff and possibly used deception or sacrificed something for Improved Feint) I will hopefully be duoing with another monkcher guildie so we may be able to switch SA between us when tougher mobs close in. I've been lazy and just stood and took any hits most times for trash mobs; only kiting for bosses.

    I must have overlooked the fact that Uzy X doesn't have quickdraw. That is a serious drawback, and I probably would not have promoted it to an "official" Uzy build had I acknowledged the fact. I did however note that Uzy X lacks Greater Two Weapon Fighting, which is also worth listing in under the losses vs Uzy VI. I also noticed, if I saw correctly, that Uzy VI has Improved Critical: Bludgeoning while Uzy X does not. You probably won't want to use shortswords on an Uzy X, so I'm not sure Improved Critical:Shortsword is worth listing as a gain; the to-hit on shortswords is lousy given the relatively low str; you really can't beat handwraps in that respect. Still, the gains from Uzy X are nice. I'm fairly positive that Ninja Spy SA stacks with the Rogue Dilly SA, as I've read it somewhere or another in the forums, though I haven't tested it myself. Hopefully, someone else will see this exchange and confirm it for us. I've always gone with Faithful Hound as it seemed to be the only path without a drawback.

    If Uzy X had quickdraw, I would welcome the idea of lesser reincarnating from Uzy VI to Uzy X. However, given the current state of things, my overall impression is that you'll probably want to stick with Uzy VI rather than reincarnate to Uzy X. ]

    Default UZY X -- Classic "Monkcher" focus with 10k stars, MS, EF, and modest buffs UPDATE

    ADDED QUICKDRAW!

    I was reviewing the Uzy X build. I realized that I can take two levels of ranger rather than two levels of fighter to get three feats--bow str, twf, and rapid shot--rather than merely two. That means I am able to add dodge as a feat in order to gain Ninja Spy I & II.

    That also means that Uzy X can be promoted to another Uzy build. I think the enhancements might be tweaked a bit, but otherwise it is fairly solid. One nice thing about this build -- which is like an Uzy VI and VII in that it has 10k stars, manyshot, and endless fusillade -- is that you get all three already at level 14. I'm not sure yet what the gameplay will be like as you level in terms of using the xbow, longbow and melee, but this will of course change things. However, the general notes regarding the other Uzy builds still apply:

    *Since Uzy has quick draw, swapping between weapons is nearly instantaneous, and
    **as long as you have conjured bolts or arrows, gameplay will automatically load the corresponding ammo of either xbow or longbow** meaning
    ***there is really no need to fiddle with opening inventory, opening, unloading/loading quivers, etc.*** and
    ****switching weapons is a breeze***
    *Because **Uzy can conjure bolts and arrows, or use a fire arrow wand/spell to bring about fire bolts and arrows, **
    ***managing ammo is a breeze***
    *conjured arrows are infinite and can be imbued with force, acid, fire, fear, and slaying, so there is rarely need or reason to use fire arrows (though, where optimal, there's nothing preventing you from using them).*
    *fire arrows will automatically load/reload when arcane arrows are removed from your inventory.*
    *conjured bolts are finite, and if you bring about fire bolts via wand/spell, they will automatically load when you fully exhaust your conjured bolts* which means that
    *you should simply not conjure bolts when you expect good procs from fire bolts (you enter the troll lair), then bring about several fire bolts via wand/spell, and gameplay will automatically load the fire bolts--this can all be done without ever opening up inventory.*
    *Uzy switches to handwraps to build ki for 10k stars and to provide blunt damage on oozes and skellies, and in such cases you may need to reenter a stance in order to capitalize on monk stances; however, your reasoning should simply be that using xbows is like another monk stance that grants you xbow use and costs all of your existing ki; it's really as simple as that; use this "stance" when ki is <=7; when you reason that way you will also appreciate that it is merely one click on the xbow icon to enter that "stance" fully equipped with an xbow.
    *Uzy can cast the Byeshk Weapons or Adamantine Weapons spells on any weapon, which should facilitate overall inventory management.
    *The training dummy takes on a whole new meaning with Uzy. You can use it to optimize and practice your cycles between longbow, xbow, or melee. It will help you put your clickies in the ideal place. The dummy is now your friend! The next option, of course, is to do slayers, where you can put theory into practice.
    *You may want to use flame arrow wands rather than the spell. The wands don't require you to have regular arrows or bolts in your inventory, despite the explanatory text on the wand. Also, with your arty levels, you will also get a small chance to retain charges on these wands.

For this build you can drop ITWF, Dodge or Quickdraw.
    • Improved Precise Shot at 15. IPS is amazing for any build that can put out decent ranged damage as it completely changes the landscape for heroic questing as you can transition from the melee style of handling one mob at a time to the caster style of kiting until you have orange alert and mowing everything down with the brutal IPS+Manyshot combo. To fit this at 15 you can defer ITWF, WF:R or Quickdraw.


    For heroic questing I can see the value in the uzy concept and might use some of your ideas for some of my future lives if I have any left that are relevant. Certainly 6 artificer/6 monk/6 rogue would have been an easier way to get the rogue PL than what I did (12/7/1) and the extra feat could have been put to good use (to have IPS at 15 I had to defer AA to 18, was worth it but not ideal - would have liked AA sooner and PL:SotF at 18 would have been nice). Lack of melee feats doesn't bother an acrobat (and Breeze is amazeballs). Flame Turret is ridiculously good even at high levels.

    At level 20+ however the concept starts to break down as to play a 10k stars archer you want to be able to range continuously for long periods of time using a solid Ki pool (with a decent concentration and twisted enlightenment you could range for 8-10 minutes at a time before having to shrine/meditate/melee). This is particularly important in raids (especially in raids where you can kite something - dogs in lob or jailor in tod for instance - but still want to contribute DPS to the boss while doing so).

    At endgame, you can now sustain manyshot and 10k stars indefinitely. End of story. End of Uzy? No! Uzy's are great for leveling, whether you are going for completionist or some other build that needs a particular past life. Second, Uzy's are, for those who like complex builds, very fun to play. That's an old enough argument now, tried and true. The forms show that Uzy-like concepts aren't likely to go away any time soon either; many have unwittingly found themselves on the path to Uzy.

    Okay. Here are two Uzy builds which can survive the fact that, at endgame, the use of the crossbow on these builds no longer makes sense.

    What makes these builds appealing in this context is that you get manyshot, 10k stars, and endless fusillade at level 13-14 rather than 18-19. This means that you'll have a few levels in which you can blissfully wreak havoc on the gameworld via a variety of ranged combat boosts.

    If you want to be orthodox, play Hong Kong Pewy; if you want to be unorthodox, play Uzy X.

    If you want to be orthodox, play Monkcheri Amour; if you want to be unorthodox, play Uzy VII.

    I'm still working on optimizing the leveling and feat order on these builds, so comments and criticisms are very welcome. Here is what I have so far:

    A heads-up regarding the Uzy VI build: The first six levels of ranger now include precise shot as an auto feat. This means you now have one extra feat.

    In theory, you should therefore be able to fit in the precision feat, which seems to be getting a lot of positive attention since the last update. You should also be able to move improved precise shot up earlier in the progression, ideally around level 15-16.

    Lastly, per past feedback, you probably want to take two levels of artificer up front for rune arm use rather than wait on the second level as in the sample build. The progression would therefore be 2 levels arty, 2 levels monk, then 6 levels ranger, 4 levels monk, 6 levels arty.

    I'll provide an updated build when I get around to it.
