    Default Omnispell dust/stone

    ZOMG!!!!

I'm so excited. I _think_ I'm the first to report on this. Actually this is going to be a report in progress. I will come back in a while and update this post with my findings on how it all worked out in quest. I'm going to try my best to test these components out in every way I can to see if there are any bugs. Since they are unbound I will test on both a Sorcerer and a Favored Soul.

But for now! Here it is.

Descriptions for both items look good. And they stack to 10,000! Yes I actually had 10,000 of them but cast jump so it used one up lol.

So far so good. Next step is destroying all my regular components and testing a few spells in the harbor.

As expected, the jump spell used the Omnispell dust and stoneskin used an Omnispell stone.

Now lets get some level 1 components and see what happens. First I placed the level 1 components before the dust and cast jump, and the spell consumed the level 1 component. Next I placed the level 1 component after the dust and cast jump and the spell consumed the dust. So far this is working as expected.

Here's a screenshot of the jump spell description. You can see that the description now says it can use both components.

No flaws found so far in testing the new components. I'm quite impressed with them other than I think the weight could come down (suggestions below).

If you have anything you want me to specifically test, just reply here and I'll check it out.

    Q) Where can I get these?
You can't yet, they were given to me by a dev. They are not currently in game for purchase.

    Q) Do you know where they will be purchasable from?
No, I just know at one point last week that I was told they would be available in the store and found in chests like other store items.

    Q) Have you tested stoneskin, death pact and trap the soul?
I test stoneskin and death pact myself and they both used the Omnispell Stone. TheDearLeader tested out Trap The Soul and it does indeed replace the need for khyber dragonshards. Trap the Soul was tested on an 11-20HD mob and on a 21-30HD mob

My suggestions for the Omnispell Components
    1) Omnispell components should have no weight at all
    2) They should be store and vendor purchasable
    3) They should be vendor purchasable at a low cost with 250 12 favor and be BTC
    3) They should act like a plat sink if bought from regular vendors

Thanks to all the Dev's I've annoyed on Lamannia and the forums for the last week about this.
Special thanks to +kookiekobold for letting me test this out

    Good change!

Why you're at it, can you see how they behave if you have other spell comps in inventory?

Say you cast a 4th level and have 4th level comps in there as well, does it work like thieves tools where it takes the one first in the inventory, or always the regular comp first, or always the omni? etc.
    I'm piking at work.

How do I know that I am better than you are? Because I'm in Thrudh's signature and you're not. That's how.

    This is exciting stuff!

Where does one get these? Are they purchasable via a vendor (favor unlock?), or are they only available through the DDO Store?

100 pounds of spell components is ridiculous. When are they going to be made weightless? Running back and forth to the store every couple quests because this **** has weight on it is annoying.

'Tis the burden of being an awesome caster that never runs out of liquid WIN. I guess don't dump STR?

    Two questions:

    1. Where are they available? DDO store only? Regular in-game vendor?
    2. How much do they cost?

a hearty THANK YOU in advance.

They will weigh the same amount as spell components before, all added up into one stack...

Every stack of 1000 components is 10 pounds... Put 10 stacks of 1000 components together and you get 100 pounds of components...

for 10k casts of normal spells it certainly isnt rediculous.

Normal components weigh .1 pound each. 10k of them would be 1k pounds -10times that of 10k dusts, AND saves inventory space.

Advocating repeated nerfs in the name of "balancing the game" then complaining about how DDO is moving away from D&D, is a direct contradiction in logic - D&D 3.5 (what DDO is based on) is not a balanced game. We can either have a balanced clone MMO with homogenized classes, or we can have a D&D game. We cant have both.

Judging from their "value" its 5pp each for the regular components, and 250pp each for the special components, which really is pretty fair. Even if the vendors ask double this, its probably worth the premium to save the inventory space.

However... the weight is still there. Can we please get this fixed (so they weigh zero like they practically should). I can understand not wanting to go back through and edit all the other ones, but editing just this one will essentially fix the problem (assuming a ready availability). Please zero the weight out, components only weigh 2 lbs in PnP and while I understand this isn't PnP scaling it to 100+ is just silly.

So the big question is... where can we expect to find these. If its Store only, it might as well not be there, components are used too fast to really re-buy every few days. Hopefully it'll simply appear on the regular vendors, or perhaps only vendors in higher level areas (like Amrath maybe, or similar) so its something "more powerful adventurers find on the planes" or whatnot. Any hints devs?

Please reduce the weight. Most casters don't have much str. The Omnimats solve the inventory slot issue but not the encumbrance issue.

actually components weight .01 lbs atm, I know cause I carry 9000 components atm, a full stack of level 1-9 and my burden is under 300 lbs still and most of that is from the fact that I carry 3 ingredient bags and my collectable bag on me at all times cause I am too lazy to take it in and out of the bank.

Back to the topic, yeah these are nice but honestly if they are going to weight the same I am not going to bother with them, my caster only uses 2 packs and 5 spots in a third, so that's almost 3 full empty packs. Space is not the issue for me, its the burden for me

I still want to know if these are TP only items or if they are available via plat....

    TP? no thank you.
PP? Yes, sure. Just because I'm lazy, and these forms are convenient. I spend enough RL time sorting through my junk and buying stuff. I really don't want to come and do that in game any more than I have to.

I am on the YES PLEASE side of the encumbrance argument. Making things weigh has an impact. Bought more spell components than you can lift? Well, that's going to be a problem - especially if you dumped Strength. And especially if you get hit by a Ray of Enfeeblement.

There are methods for dealing with these problems. The lightweight caster should be prepared to deal with these (+STR items, Divine Power clickie, strong party/guild members, etc.).

Even though it IS ridiculous about how many "things" we can carry in our many "Bags of Holding," I am still okay with this. However, please please PLEASE do not trivialize encumbrance.
PLEASE FIX LAG. PLEASE FIX BUGS.

I'm not sure where these are. They're not in the DDOstore, nor at the Portable Hole or House J vendors.

Indeed. Core rules would have been eliminating tracking of trivial cost spell materials completely, but at least this is a massive improvement (assuming they're from vendors).

Actually, I think .1 pound per casting is ridiculous. I would expect just a pinch, for trivial cost spells, which is no more than a gram, or about .002 pounds.

A pinch of lead weight more than that.

So I guess its a question of the density of the powder =D

Sure, but given that a conventional conversion for a pinch of salt is 1/4 g, a pinch of lead would only weight about 1.3 grams, or less than .003 lbs. Still much less than .1 or even .01 lbs.

It uses the one first in inventory, this was detailed in my first post with the jump spell

Not available for purchase yet. I got them from a dev to test them out. I've been asking about them to EVERYONE for a week now

Yes, but it's 10,000 of them. A more reasonable number would be 2500 to carry.

    1) Not available yet
    2) I don't know sorry.

I was told previously that they would be available in the store, and would drop in chests like other store items do. But I was not able to stay online at that time to have a conversation about them so I do not know if they will be available from a vendor.

Edit - No flaws found so far in testing the new components. I'm quite impressed with them other than I think the weight could come down. Perhaps to 50% of what they currently are if they are vendor purchased. If they are store purchased only I would expect the weight to be 10% of what they currently are.
