    Default Deadly Zen

This is a plan to make my first bow user and/or ranger in ddo

Does favored enemy chaotic outsider stack with Evil outsider? If so she can be specially focused for EDQ2.

A plan to turn my 1st life monk into a Zen archer with 4d6 sneak attack, 250 dmg burst from touch of death (does anyone know if it works with bows?), Slaying arrows, elemental debuffs (does it work with bows?), void strike and other monk ki damage, +2 strength from fire stance with bows strength, improved evasion, full bow feats, and all of the two weapon fighting feats.

Does power attack work with ranged weapons? If so, i'd like to find a way to get it into the feat list

Any other help or recommendations would be appreciated. And please don't say, "don't make a bow user" as a suggestion, because they have their uses, not very many uses, but they have them.

the build is ok i love ranged combat, but why such low wisdom?with 10k stars you can now have a 2nd manyshot! so better if you drop dex and raise wisdom so you can fire more arrows with 10k. Dex is useful only for ac and reflex save...you have improve evasion with 9 monk levels so you can just don't care a lot if your reflex are low and you will anyways take half damage...gtwf is granted with 11 ranger levels also if you start with 8 dex and your to-hit with bow is based on your wis modifier with zen archer. Rearranging stats:

16str 10 dex 16 con 8 int 16wis 8cha. lvl up into str or wis. this will grant you a better ToD and a decent stunning fist.

Or look at the 12 monk/6ranger/2fighter aa for 3rd tier stances or again 12monk/7fighter/1wiz. 10k stars is really a nice addition.

Could you explain 10k stars to me, because I think I'm missing something,

The way I understand it, is that stars each only do 1d2 damage with no option of adding STR to the damage and it would require an extra feat or two to fully benefit from it, not to mention taking hafling as a race.

Bows on the other hand, can have imbued arrows, 1d8 or 1d10, with STR bonus added as damage, 3x crits....

The only reason I could see for having 10k stars is for generating Ki, and not damage output, but I could be wrong, and I would appreciate an explanation if i am.

Also, wisdom is nice for stunning fist DC, but ToD DC will be low no matter what because I only took 9 levels of monk, Dex could be dropped to 11 with a +2 tome, i believe in order to get the feats required for shot on the move.

with the last update 10k stars works with bow. so you can fire multiple arrows like manyshot... and the number of arrows increases with the wisdom modifier. 30 wis=around 3 arrows 40 wis=around4 arrows like manyshot.

take a look at this http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=354668

btw i think that 11r/9m is a good idea after 12monk/6ranger/2fighter for the fact you can totally drop the dex

Thanks, I agree with you now, however, firestance monks collide with wisdom score, so perhaps i would go earth or wind stance instead which would make it harder to build ki which would force me to take path of the crane, or wear a monk ki item.

If so, then there is no reason to go 9 monk other than improved evasion.

Perhaps if I went light monk, i wont need to waste a feat on dodge, then i wont take mobility or shot on the run, And i could COMPLETELY dump dex.
All i really lose is 1d6 sneak attack damage.

yes fire stance isn't that good with 10k stars so better go ocean stance for wisdom bonus or air stance for doublestrike(still prefer ocean). ONLY if you take 12 monk levels earth stance for +1 crit multiplier (19-20/x4 )

ocean has also passive ki generation!ninja spy too!

I just looked at "ten thousand stars" and it requires adept of wind, which requires a 14 dex.
This means that dex cannot be dumped.

This is weird, tripping and balance lost is usually a wind thing, (sirroco and air elementals) but its water in a monk build, whereas wind is 10k stars which is based on widom,

Maybe ddo can change the two around just for me and this build, then i could dump dex ^^

then i get +2 from enhancements putting me at 16

Will my base wisdom be higher than that? especially if i sit in fire stance?
I think its better for a bow's strength build to have their AB based on Dex, don't you?
The highest base wisdom I could afford would be 15 on a 34 pt build, or 16 on a 36 pt build.

    Base stats

    18 str (16 pts)
    12 dex (4 pts)
    14 con (6 pts)
    8 int (0 pts)
    wis 15 (8 pts)
    8 cha (0 pts)

    16+4+6+8 = 34 pts

my idea is that you can use 10k stars 2 times every 2 minuts for a total of 40 sec so if the +4 wisdom from ocean stance makes you throw 1 more arrow, then the +2 damage/arrow from the fire stance doesn't matter so much.
not sure i explained well, in other words while using 10k stars there is a huge difference between shoot 2-3 arrows or 3-4. if you focus on strenght you will probably throw 2-3 with +2 damage/arrow, if you focus on wisdom you will fire 3-4...your overall dps will be better on wis based in my opinion because once you will have slaying arrows every arrow deals 500/20=25 more damage. do you see the point?

I focused my build more on wisdom for better to-hit and more arrows while I use 10k stars, keeping medium-high strenght(enought to reach 30 at lvl 20) but not maximizing it.

seems like a solid build, i'll take some of the ideas you use there into consideration.
I'm pretty set on the 11/9 build tho.

That is the original but it doesn't consider the new ten thousand stars to be honest going 11/9 you will have lower unarmed dps(12 monk are 2d6xfist and +1crit moltiplier in earth stanceIII), lower bow dps due to lower wisdom, lower ac, lower saves, no haste boost, no abundant step, lower stunning fists dc. On the other side you will have that ranger spells will last longer, a better barkskin, more sp, more favored enemies, "free" improve precise shot and yes, an easier build

    oh, cool,
I would have been surprised if no one had thought of this before.

looks like they argue about the 11/9 vs the 12monk/6ranger/2fighter there also.

My conclusion with such a build is that 11/9 is better for a 28/32 point, no twink gear build but 12/6/2 is better for 32 point+, gear, end game oriented.

11/9 would be decent for picking up a few past lives for an eventual 12/6/2 build.
