    Smile Fix/add new guild ranks

I would like to see the guild ranks feature fixed with the following additions:

    1) Guild Leaders should be able to designate which members can A) recruit additional members, B) expel existing members, C) promote members to officers, and D) replace guild airship amenties.

As long as we can rename the ranks too!

I still remember seeing all the 'members' renamed as 'red shirts' on thelanis back when that feature still worked.

    A) They can. Its called Officer rank.
    B) See A
    C) Umm, no. The whole point to guild leadership is to pick who gets to be an officer.
    D) Officers can replace amenities. Leader can demote them if they get frisky.

Honestly not seeing why you want to fix a system that isn't broken.

Because the system is broken. you should check the /guild command help.

Once upon a time, long before F2P, Turbine introduced a guild ranking system that allowed guilds to have more ranks than leader, successor, officers and members. You could create several more ranks, and rename all the ranks in a given guild. Except that the rename affected all the guilds on a server. As such it was considered broken beyond repair and the whole thingie was disabled.

We have the commands to do it in game, but we can't use them. It's one of the bugs it would be nice to have fixed, but since it has been that way for years it's probably on extremely low priority.

Note : Yes my join date is wrong to know that kind of things but I've been playing since the begining in the Former European Servers, my join date reflect the European Shutdown date.

i like this and i think they need to add how much renown each member has earned for the guild. So you can weed out the people that don't help out

i agree 100% plus it would be nice if the you could add more ranks to the guild so members and officers knows who's higher up on the totem poll (pardon the pun).

That and allow you to make all your characters that are in one guild the same rank as the rest (e.g.,i.e, if the guild leader and/or successor[G.L./S.] has multiple characters then they can click a button that shows all the characters related to the G.L./S. to the rest of the guild)
Or just add a expandable button for each account that's in the guild so that way people know what character(and any alternates) are related to whom even if it costs some plat or even 1-5 astral diamonds to do it....
or even for the ability to add ranks to the guild (i.e lets say 1-5 astral diamonds to unlock the ability to add ranks{the first new rank is free} and 10,000 platinum [just tossing a number out there] to and another rank plus another 5,000 to change the name one of the new ranks*, 20,000 to change the name of the member rank*, 30,000 for the officer rank*, and lets say 45,000 to change the guild leader rank name*, and 50,000 to edit the new/default privileges of all the ranks[except the leaders]*)

*only the guild leader (or people given a pass by the leader**) would be able to change anything
** can only be obtained by buying it from the DDO store buy the guild leader

No - I already get enough grief from officers{real life friends} for not booting people - I'm not going to have them asking me how much each other has earned that week - Heck no!

Guilds should not be a competition.

    Agreed.

I am all for custom guild ranks but not interested in knowing exactly how much each toon has contributed or being able to know all the toons of an account.

And our guild is made of just friends I know every person in my guild personally. AND I often don't know who a new toon belongs to, and I still don't want an easy button for it.

The potential for griefing at large is just too much to risk. I have seen some guild breakups and they aren't pretty.

Also most people don't seem to know how things work on the renown side.

Here's a hint if I have 10 toons I play and each earns about 2000 renown a day that is better for the guild that you and your friend each with 1 toon earning 8000 renown a day. My account (which is what counts for guild decay and size) is pulling in 20,000 renown a day. Your's are pulling 16,000 combined.

So many people seem to think the individual toons matter, they don't. We have well over 100 toons in our guild. It's guild size is 6. Most of us are alt-o-holoics, we play a LOT of alts, we play of LOT of failed experiments and with any luck we will be able to hit and hold something close to a level 75 - 80.

The fact that many of the OP's suggestions are already in the game and working makes me think that those agreeing with him (and asking for these other kinds of changes) don't really understand how the system works and thus are advocating changes without understanding what they are really asking for.

What I liked was that you could rename all the ranks of all other guilds too lmao.

Gee...I wonder why they pulled the rank system back.

On a serious note though, yes, its needed. It's a basic security system with flexible authorities that are needed. Give us up to 10 ranks we can rename and then a set of authorities for each we assign by check box.

Some guilds would still run with 3 ranks and be happy, others might use all 10 and set up specialized roles, but that way people can manage their guilds as they want.

    Agreed.
At least, show how much renown each member has earned to the leader.
It should be up to the leader to decide whom to boot.

Moreover, it would be handy to see characters by accounts, i.e. which character belongs to which account and how much renown each account has earned.
At least, show this info for the leader.

Again the potential for Griefing a player especially if you are booting him, is too large for Turbine to make this leap I think.

What I think would be more interesting is that if renown decay was removed and instead used as a currency to buy the ship amenities.

Have the formula for cost scale up with guild level and perhaps size. Then people wouldn't be so touchy about renown.

Showing guild leaders who earns what is just going to have a lot of them booting people for all the wrong reasons because so few of them actually understand how the system works in the first place.

    Red face

i've been trying to code a renown calculator scents a few weeks after the update came out for guild levels. (couldn't made a entrance page useing HTML for my guild website [still trying to get that done to ] to save DDO even if i was given 3 years to figure it out {no code manuals on the net i looked})

and on top of that i'm a guild leader so it would help me to know how much renown other members have earn even if its totaled together if the person has more than one character in the guild.

also my idea for grouping characters that are in a guild was based off of the fact that most of the time when someone has multiple characters in a guild they may not be on one or more of there characters for over a month some times (have 6 toons and I will concentrate on playing one character at a time for months usually) and a few times i've had a person in my guild that has 3+ toons and i can't remember who's toon belongs to who and its hard enough trying to remember which characters are what friends alternates.
so ya thats where that came from

ya and as for me booting people i usually give a character 2-3 months of not being on if i can't tell who that said character belongs to so for me it would just help me as a leader to prevent me accidentally booting a active persons alt toon

and as far as grouping goes I WISH THEY WOULD ADD IT TO THE FRIENDS LIST SO PEOPLE CAN TELL IF A FRIEND IS ONLINE ON AN ALTERNATE SO YOU DON'T MAX OUT YOUR FRIENDS LIST WITH ALTERNATE CHARACTERS OF ALL YOUR FRIENDS

That is a perfect example though.

If he's not been on in 3 months he is "inactive" thus doesn't count towards guild size or decay.

If you boot him it's going to take a portion of the renown he's earned immediately and then he's essentially going to count as 2 active players for 2 weeks further decreasing your size bonus and increasing your renown decay.

If you are booting people every couple of weeks your are going to be absolutely killing the guild. I have seen SO many guilds that do this and still are.

They tend to be the ones complaining the most about renown decay and people not pulling their weight when in fact it's the leader not understanding the system itself that is hurting the guild.

As a hint though, it's the players that play for 4 hours a week once a week or play a lot but belong to multiple guilds that are the ones that are going to be hurting your guild.

Inactive players are a bit of a pain but they don't hurt you at all. Kicking them does.

i see what your saying siilconscout

(not trying to start a debate here)
but most of time officers and leaders don't know each other in real life that often. every one that i've invited except for 5 people i have no clue what there name is and the have been in another state or clear in another country. most the time they play for a while then when i'm shut down for a week they don't ever log back on. so thats why i think its a good idea to have it added and that's not just me I bet

but that's my view on it.

Yes, that's what we need, a way to more effeciently alienate casual players in DDO!

Renown decay should be removed entirely. It makes causal and light players unwelcome in all DDO guilds and drives them to other MMO's.

most of the time i'm logged on the game i'm either trying to get some items for toons, find some quest to do, teaching people how to run the pit or some other complicated quest, answering messages, trying to get my guilds compendium to look right, or just talking to people in the chat box.... i don't have problem with casual players.
but if turbine got rid of the renown loss i wouldn't need to anyone in my guild to be my successor to make sure my guild is still earning renown so we can get better buffs so getting rid of the renown loss would mean......
if every one in the guild including you self didn't log on in over 2 years then you came back after 3 months into the 2rd year and no one else has logged on and your still lvl55 but you have lost your ship buffs and you have to re buff your entire ship all by yourself but no one ever logs back on then whats the point of haveing a ship let alone a guild
