    Default Improved Sunder and YOU

Improved Sunder now lowers fortification by 10% on a failed saving throw, in addition to the feat's prior reduction of a target's armor class by -5. The lowered fortification effect does not stack. Additionally, Improved Sunder will apply a -3 Fortitude Saving Throw penalty that lasts for 24 seconds on a successful hit. The saving throw penalty stacks up to five times.

Ever since U11 I have been raising awareness on G-Land to get more melees to carry this feat. I figure it time I bring it to the forums as well.

As many have said there are only a few classes that can really make room for this feat without losing an important aspect. For the monk class this is not the case, this feat is a huge boon to most of the monk tools/abilities.

Most monks that carry the Two Weapon Fighting feats and stunning fist notice that they get 2 attempts at stunning fist. The same is true for all tactical feats and finishers, Improved Sunder included. It not uncommon to afflict 2 stacks(-6) on one try and even 3 on a Double Strike(-9). All monks have access to the following fort based finishers

    The Trembling Earth
Combination: Earth - Earth - Earth
    10 Ki.
The attack has +2 critical multiplier, and the victim is unable to cast spells for 30 seconds.
    Fortitude save negates.

    The Gathering Storm
Combination: Air - Air - Air
    10 Ki.
The target's ability to "land attacks" is reduced for 30 seconds. -2 on attack rolls.
Undeads appear to be immune. Fortitude save negates.

    The Raging Sea
Combination: Water - Water - Water
    10 Ki.
The enemy's attacks are slowed for 30 seconds.
    Fortitude save negates.

And as a Dark monk Improved Sunder offers an even greater utility as all (save Karmic Strike and Curse of the void) finishers are fort saves and have a periodic save to break free

    Touch of Despair
Combination: Dark - Dark - Dark
    10 Ki.
You strike your opponent down with a terrible curse, halving all positive energy healing done to the target, reducing its fortification and increasing its negative energy vulnerability by 25%.
A successful Fortitude save negates this effect. (DC 10 + Monk Level + Wisdom mod) The target receives periodic saves to attempt to break free of this effect.

    Pain Touch
Combination: Earth - Dark - Earth
    10 Ki.
Target is nauseated for 60 seconds.
    Periodic Fortitude saves to negate.

    Falling Star Strike
Combination: Air - Dark - Air
    10 Ki.
Target is blinded for 60 seconds.
    Periodic Fortitude saves to negate.

    Freezing the Lifeblood
Combination: Water - Dark - Water
    10 Ki.
Target is paralyzed and helpless for 60 seconds.
Humanoid targets only. Periodic Fortitude save to negate.

A dark monk using Improved Sunder and can lower the Fortification of all epic raid bosses and none Pit fiend raid bosses by 35% lower the fort save by -15, half the regeneration rate/Positive healing, increase Negative energy vulnerability by 25%. Not to mention Touch of Death is also a fort save.

In epic content improved sunder lends itself well to Quivering Palm and Trembling Earth against enemy casters. Touch of Despair works against red names as well as purple names provided they aren't immune to curses.

    Aye great post

I hope with Improved Sunder being so accessible to a variety of builds that it will help encourage more use of trips, flanking and more specific tactical feats/abilities/weapons such as stuns, hamstrings, monk curses etc.

Swapped out a feat for Improved Sunder last night on my dark monk. Really liking the application of it, just for stuns and Touch of Death if nothing else.

If the animation didnt take 6 years to complete with THF i'd probably already have it on some of my bbns.

is the animation that bad with THF?

Anyone able to demonstrate how slow it is? Is it similar to the animation to smite(Before u get the enhancements) - Cuz that takes too long imo and most times the mob has already moved out of range :P

Imagine being nauseated and exhausted whilst cleaving with a great weapon with too much follow through. With a quarterstaff the animation is fast but its extremely telegraphed with what seems like a long wind up, and then other then flavor why would use a quarterstaff.../shrug

It does interrupt your attack chain, THF and TWF im pretty sure there is a DPS lose at each attempt.

Default Imp Sunder vs Second Toughness vs Power Attack?

    Revised*
I have a TR I am leveling, took the past life, power attack, toughness, and the usual stuff. To hit on this life may be an issue (str/wis helf with lvl points into wis). I have been contemplating switching power attack for cleave (for ki gen against mobs) but other than trash ki gen, it would be a wasted feat. I have a canith +4 attack trinket made to compensate for PA.

I have three options for my loose feats:

    1. PA + Imp Sunder
    2. 2nd toughness + PA
    3. 2nd toughnes + Cleave

I would test this stuff myself but alas I TRed the toon who would have.
FYI: Toon is a second life helf wis/str dark monk with lvl up points into wis. Have every bit of +attack gear and the standard epic gear.

Is the new Improved Sunder worth it?

Default Improved Sunder instead of Greater Two Handed Fighting?

I'm playing a Half-Orc Barbarian in his second life. I'm not really familiar with end game content and I haven't done any epic quest so far.

    My question is:
What's more important for end game raids and epic quests?

    - Greater Two Handed Fighting (increase glancing blow damage by 10%)
    - Improved Sunder (lower fortification by 10%)

I would prefer to kill the boss faster than to get faster to the boss.
So if -10% fortification (and the -5 AC) helps in boss fights I would take it.

PA is a prerequisite for cleave. They are not interchangeable.

I figure that TR's will be the ones who can get the most out of this new and very much improved Sunder. Dropping a toughness first life is like cutting off an arm, but with the proper gear and whatnot, this could possibly a replacement for toughness. Now make Improved Cleave throw your axe like a lightsaber and have it return, and we're in business.

Thanks, I must have missed that. So I guess the question is Cleave vs. Imp Sunder vs. second Toughness feat?

Take Cleave + Improved Sunder....the extra HP shouldn't make or break your toon. If those extra HP are that big of a deal, you need to re-roll IMHO

I don't have room for both feats unless I drop my only toughness feat. Soooooo Cleave or Imp. Sunder?

I believe my feats break down as such:
    (currently level 15)

    1 Two weapon fighting
    1 (monk) Toughness
    2 (monk) Dodge
3 (monk) Path of Inevitable Dominion
    3 Past Life (monk)
    6 Power Attack
    6 (monk) Stunning Fist
    9 Improved Two Weapon Fighting
    12 Improved Critical: Bludgeoning
    15 Greater Two Weapon Fighting
    18 ???????????????

This is when the order you have feats in can suck.
