The ml of armor and weapons is absolutely horrible and the cost/levels of the recipes are illogical enough for me to assume the devs just throw darts to select random recipe levels and shard level.
I'm pretty happy with Cannith crafting as it is. I can make a devil beater roughly equal to a Min II before I ever run the Shroud. I made a ghaele beater just for giggles. My dex rogue ran through Delera's at level wielding dual holy light maces of undead bane. Two one handed +2 weapons doing 5d6 +2 damage at level 7. The capability to make your weapons precisely for the enemies you will be facing by deconning the ridiculous garbage that 95% of random loot consists of is very powerful.
Risia is an upgrade to random loot. Cannith crafting is creating niche items specifically because you want them. I'd much rather see them loosen the crafting target item restrictions versus making the end items more powerful. Ogre power +6 goggles of Striding +30% anyone?
To take it to the extreme...
Enjoy your 'custom crafted' ML7 acid of pure good weapon that can't be icy bursted while I kill circles around you during quests with my randomly generated ML2 acid of pure good race restricted weapon that is icy bursted with force damage added. And I certainly hope you didn't spend too much time and money leveling up your crafting ('laughs hysterically'), because my randomly generated weapon only took me 5 mins and 5k plat to buy from the AH.

Crafting will really shine for end game boss-specific weapons (+5 banishing of G. elemental bane, +5 anarchic burst adamantine of smiting, +5 holyburst silver of G. lawful bane, etc) where you can pack all the best stuff in and still be at min lvl 20.

Time for me to farm some good handwraps, in preparation for Risia.
Still love my +5 Vicious Icy Burst of Bleeding wraps, and use them at 20 for almost everything that I don't have a Greater Bane for.
I don't have a zerging problem.
I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
Well, actually, I have a thought regarding the answer. I imagine it's because people really want to craft items with Heavy Fort on them rather than rely on items like the Nightforge Gorget. I don't blame them. Heavy Fort is important to have and the min level 9 Nightforge Gorget isn't exactly a great item aside from the Heavy Fort. Being able to craft the Fort as well as a good prefix would be nice.
I think Heavy Fort as a high level shard makes a lot of sense. It's one of the few effects that people advocate getting on your character the moment you can and never taking off of your character. Not having it is one of the biggest signs of an inexperienced player--how many times have you heard the one about the level 20 200 HP, 0% fort character? It is extremely desirable.
And yeah, Heavy Fort can be picked up pretty easily in game and it's a darn good thing too. Imagine if getting Heavy Fort was as much of a big deal as finding random lootgen Holy Silver weaponry.
I do think that some of the shard levels don't make much sense, but I really don't think Heavy Fort is that far off.

The Lifeguard: A Swimcleric build
Very sorry Badbob, was wrong on that part (as usual ). It's not necessarily that the levels are "wonky" (other than the ml is 1 higher obviously), but that for some reason a Pure Good shard is given a +2 enhancement bonus (can clearly see +2 on shard). That's the real bug here, and I do wonder if that's supposed to be like that.
Makes it an incredibly bad option when Bleed does more damage and is only +1 and works on everything you probably wouldn't have a specialized weapon for. (As in, doesn't work on constructs/undead, but I would expect any crafter has something for undead and something for constructs)

Well that's a shame. But in the past Turbine have not coded things right, so most likely they'll still work for a type ... maybe hand wraps once again.
Have a +0 Icy Burst addition to a crafted item would have been sweet though.
As it is, you're now left with twink crafting being further devalued under player's eyes, and icyburst being of little use in non-twink scenarios since the odds of having dual +3 holyburst of greater dragon bane randomly generated to icyburst so it competes with the +5 holyburst of greater bane crafted are .. small.
Anyway, regardless of whether this is changed or not, the reality is I was extremely excited about Risia coming back until I found out about this. I'll need to warn my friend who couldn't find her skates from last winter to not buy a new pair, we won't be needing it.
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.
What do you guys find wrong with having crafting not always being the best option over randomly generated?
