Default spell point cost on Sonic spells

Ok I have been following the discussion on the spellpointpass on Lam. I even read most of a thread there about how the changes affected bards.

Logged into my lvl20 bard last night and was just looking over a few things. and my eyes out almost popped out of my head when I saw the spell point cost for sound burst and sonic blast.

With Heighten and Maximize turned on.

Greater shout total sp cost 35....expected.
sound burst total sp cost 58 ....what the hell....
sonic blast total sp cost 52 (base cost 6) What the F....

Could some one tell me if this is a glitch or why it costs so much to cast lvl 1 and lvl 2 spells when a lvl 6 only costs 35.

If this is the new spell point costs...I will trading spells and only carrying one sonic damage spell. not spending that many spell points to cast the other 2. not worth it.

It's no glitch. That's how the meta's impact the spells. +25 SP for maximize, +5 SP/level for heighten.

Sonic blast and sound burst aren't worth carrying at higher levels. The damage isn't worth it and the cost of heightening them compared to just greater shouting for the stun and damage makes them pretty suboptimal. They never were great for damage but they did offer some more stunning options. I'd rather come closer and greater shout, or just use a longer mezz from farther back.

They can be handy at low levels.

If you want the daze effect sonic blast gives then daze monster might be an option. It's an enchantment and carries a debuff with the daze. 25 SP heightened. Not an aoe but situationally useful. I tend to prefer dancing still.

I am carrying greater shout and that's the only sonic spell. I dropped sound burst.

Yeah, that's why I just don't bother with heighten or max or empower on my bards.

Although, my husband and I were talking about how in PnP that wizards would have to specify when you memorized your spells whether they were maxed, empowered, etc.

It would actually be beneficial in DDO (though I admit, it may be a bit wonky for a bard/sorc). If you selected your spells in a tavern (or at a rest shrine) and got to pick which spells were maxed, heightened, etc...and then until you rested again, all those spells stayed as you selected them (i.e., you couldn't toggle during the middle of a quest except at a rest shrine)...it would be very beneficial.

That would give you the ability to figure out which spells make sense to be heightened, etc. and only apply metamagics to the particular spells that need them...w/o having to waste a lot of time trying to toggle before every spell.
