    Default Kublai Khan (TWF bard 16 / ftr 2 / barb 2)

This is just a TWF variant of the excellent Genghis Khan; hopefully Leslie won't mind me riffing on her name. It's a tribute, I swear, like a cover band! I decided to fork my builds off on their own, rather than clutter up Genghis's thread further - 41 pages and counting! Because they're 32-pt builds which require a +2 DEX tome and start with low base CHA, Kublai's less newbie-friendly than the original; I wouldn't attempt it without at least some twink gear to start. I did two versions - dwarf & half-elf - but really any race would work.

I won't repeat all the info or crunch all the numbers from the original Khan, but in brief: bard 16 & WC II brings the songs, buffs, and a bit of heals; ftr 2 is for the feats, Haste Boost, and +1 STR enh; barb 2 is for +10% run speed, 3 uses of Rage, +1 PA enh, and +1 CON enh. Variants are possible, of course, such as bard 14 / ftr 4 / barb 2; lose Inspire Heroics & lvl 6 spells, but gain an extra feat (most likely Weap Spec Slash for +2 dmg), Haste Boost II, and another Toughness enh.

Move fast. Hit hard. Hear lamentations. Sing songs in celebration. It's the zerging Warchanter way.

    First up, the dwarf:

Weapons: he uses 2H weapons at lower levels; in particular a Carnifex or Hellstroke is his first best friend if this is a Vet char. This lets him make a beeline for WC I & lvl 3 spells (Haste & Displace FTW!). At lvl 9 he switches to TWF, primarily w/dwarven axes.

Spells: focused mainly on buffs. Also takes the Cure spells, but only after I have all the buffs I want; his healing will mostly come from Cure wands & Heal scrolls.

Skills: Concentration, Perform, and UMD should be maxed. After that, there's enough pts to max out one more skill; I like having Diplomacy for aggro management, but really it's up to you. Extra pts I put into Jump & Balance.

HE version goes for rogue dilly & khopeshes: pretty sure he has higher DPS esp. when SAing than dwarf; he also has almost as many HPs. I changed the leveling order a bit to get TWF & khopesh sooner; the downside is he doesn't get WC I until lvl 9 or lvl 3 spells until lvl 10. I also had to delay Extend Spell until lvl 18 and drop Stunning Blow. In the long run, though, I'd say he winds up the better build.

Do you think the 2 barb levels out weigh 2 rogue levels (Axesinger) since you'll have decent dex?

To be honest, giving up Evasion reaaally goes against my usual nature. Barb splashes are geared more towards zergers, IMHO.

But the silver lining is getting to wear medium armor after WC II: specifically I'm thinking of (epic) Marilith Chain for DPS or Cavalry Plate for extra survivability (Demonic Shield, Greater or Superior False Life, DR 3 or 5, Resistance +4 or 5). Since you would lose Evasion anyway in those armors, well, why not have the other goodies from barb 2 as well?

But it is a tough call; I think it depends as much on your playstyle and build priorities as anything else.

So, hows Kublai doing? I like this build for some reason!

Oh what do you think of Fatesinger? Other destiny possibilities for him?

I got my (slightly tweaked) dwarven Kublai build to lvl 10 (bard 8 / ftr 1 / barb 1) before getting, errr, distracted. [I know, that's like a evening's work for a real vet, but what can say? I play slow.] But it went pretty well: moves fast, hits hard, sings, buffs, does a bit of healing. Still feels weird not to have Evasion and I really miss Extend for Haste & Displacement (plan to take at lvl 12). She does what she was built to do, so I'm satisfied.

To be honest, I'm still figuring out how the EDs work and what would be best for a melee bard like this. Any suggestions?

Nothing wrong with 2 rogue. However I prefer the perks from barb too much. Extend for Haste & Displacement is a must, especially in the newest content.

EDs are fab for almost everyone. Fatesinger seems like the way to go, giving mixed class bards even more "personality".

How are these two perks not sexy?!

Chord of disruption (required 12 - Prereq: Siren's song) (3 ranks - 1 AP): (Passive) When siren's song expires, chord of disruption focuses your energy to a single disruptive point causing [5D100+700/6d100+800/7d100+900] disintegrating sonic damage. If save made effects are halved.

Turn of the tide (required 20 - Prereq: Fragment of the song: Valor 1) (3 ranks - 1 AP): (Active Cooldown: 10 mins) Expend a Song to activate, Turn of the Tide grants a +5 to hit, +40% damage, DR 15/-, a +4 Charisma, and deals +5d20 +150 Sonic damage per hit. (Sonic damage does not affect Bosses.). In addition, while under the effects of Turn of the Tide, you cannot fail a Will save an a roll of 1. Duration: 20 seconds. Require Draconic incarnation 3 or Magister 3 or Shadowdancer 4

New plan for the dwarf: trade Extend and Stunning Blow for Cleave & Great Cleave so she can take Overwhelming Crit:Slash as one of her epic feats, with Inspire Excellence as the other. I'll probably start with Extend as one of her later feats, then use her free feat-swap to trade for GC just before taking OC:S.

    So something like this:
    Code:

Feels really weird to delay Imp Crit so late, but the silver lining to using weapons with lousy crit range like d.axes is IC:S is a bit less important to them than, say, khopesh or scimitar wielders.

Because of how tight the feats are, not sure how I'd re-adapt this for half-elves; maybe drop khopeshes and switch to heavy picks for a change of pace?
