Default New idle standing position - why?

This is a minor change but I'm curious as to the reason. After seeing my character stand the same way for almost 3 years, it's odd seeing him with his left weapon turned out. The shot on the left is the live server. The shot on the right is Lammania.

Good catch. Im like you, and agree that changes happen for a reason. Just what exactly is the reason?

Im not one for idle speculation and rumor mongering but it coould have to do with that "Thing" they are working on for the next mod. At least thats what i heard anyways.

Eladrin said that the “Thing” “Hangs to the right”. I found that staement confusing at first. But after this thread I find it… creepy.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • NEW - Fix the flipping non-proficiency penalties for wildshape!
    • Redo the Favor rewards so there is a reason to do max favor again.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
    • Task Lynnabel with updating the remaining legacy named loot to not suck.
    • Tiering the Runearms so that artificers aren’t screwed out of the advantages of Cannith Crafting in Epic levels on their signature item.
    • Finishing the enhancement tree passes (including racial PrE’s) before rolling out yet another DDOStore™ Enhancement Tree.

I'm just as glad they are modifying some of the older animations to make more sense. heck, dres, go out in your yard and pick up two sticks and stand around like that - the new animation is much more realistic for how you'd position your hand and wrist comfortably.

its a little thing but maybe it can be a precursor to removing the assinine 360 degree spins in sword/shield and twf combat animations.

I like those 360 spins. It may look absurd from a technical fighting standpoint, but this is DnD, a fantasy realm where fight scenes are more like movies than watching a fencing match.

When I saw this thread, I thought they finally added some idle animations, so we weren't just standing stoic all the time.

the twf one is less egregious but the sword and board one just looks completely ********

I have a screenshot somewhere of my character fighting Horoth when tod was released and it looks like he's doing a triple axel while he tanks.

Gotta agree spin moves with shield are plain stupid.

    Here:

Horoth: "Stand before me worm, and receive your due!"

    You: "Not today!" *dancey spin*

    Horoth: "..."

    You: "how'd you like that!"

    Horoth: "..."

    You: "...what?"

Horoth: "...well it's just... way to spoil the mood"

You: "oh come on it's not that bad..."

Horoth: "ya... well I'm just not feeling it any more, just... just take the chests, common' sulu let's go"

    ROFL! very good.

I agree the combat animations need some updating and hope this is a precurser to it. In addition to the odd spin moves, I also don't like that everything is a slash. Some piercing-specific animations would be nice.

I don't think the spins while S&B are as bad as the new disco spin trip.

It doesn't look like the change applied to all races. I checked one of my mules, which is human and he holds dual rapiers the same way on the live servers as he does on Lammania. In fact, he holds them so the they angle inwards instead of outward. The tips are closer together than the grips.

Maybe it's just drow that are getting sexy new animations

Huge improvement IMO. If you look at practically *any* other game out there, the positioning of weapons is much more realistic/accurate.
Now if they could fix two-handers, that would be greatly appreciated.

Let me recreate what went on in the offices the day they decided this.
    ahem.

"Why are you changing the standing positions?"
    "Because I feel like it."

"Stand before me worm and receive your due"

That + your back to him = 1 second away from Bad Touch land.
