Question What's the most ridiculously powerful item you've used in a game

I haven't played pen and paper in years. I miss it.

I remember one DM we had let my friends an I cheat once in a while. We had character abilities a bit out of whack, and once in a long while we'd find items that were just silly at our level. I think our DM had the itch for us to level faster than was realistic and so slipped in crazy items out of his own lack of patience.

    Anyway,

What is the most outrageous item you've ever put in a game? Maybe you created it. Maybe you let your players craft it. Maybe it was an item out of the books you plopped down in there for folks to fight for.

    Let me know.

    I'm feeling nostalgic today.

    Thanks everyone

I allowed a unique golem-like creature that was modeled on Wolverine (X-men). Was way too powerful. Huge damage output, crazy survivability.

That is a lot of rolling.

    Also this part
The caster is likewise dealt 200d6 points of damage
    seems painful

While I wasn’t the one who gave out the item, the most powerful thing
in any of our PnP campaigns was also the only item ever banned.

    Staff of Storing

Upon speaking the command word (store) and touching an object, that object
is then stored inside the staff.

Any object stored in the staff can be retrieved later by concentrating on the
desired object and willing it to reappear.

The staff has an unlimited carrying capacity.

the caster was an epic artifact 8D

for background, they wanted to invade the domain of the gods, so yeah. (we had epic characters all rolled up just for this)

so, making it up as i went along...

You see a carving of a closed eye at the gate of the celestial temple, visions of murder swim through your mind, a god has been killed here, and its essence bound into the the massive stone door before you. The overwhelming urge to turn back comes to you (will save). Your party is extremely apprehensive, you feel as if a terrible power is locked into this door, eager to well out. Will you try to open the door, or look for another entrance

My unlucky fighter friend: I try to open it!

The eye opens, and all the rage of the fallen god pours out, make a fortitude save, cus this does 305d6 xD

also, i used a program to roll :]

But then he was wish/true ressed back to life >:, but then the eye shattered from the backlash damage and we had an epic artifact explosion... good times...

needless to say that wasnt the last ridiculous thing i had happen in that particular session...

At some point, we convinced our DM that you could use a wish to combine two swords into one so you'd have one item with the powers of both. Of course, if you could do this once you could do it repeatedly, so we all had swords that were +5 vorpal flaming holy speed dancing weapons.

The most powerful legitimate item was a crown that acted like a ring of wizardry but doubled all spells.

Umm.. Let's see. This was a pretty much monty haul campaign, back in the late 80's.

My dwarf fighter had been somehow reduced to being 18" tall, but with full stats. He was equipped with (among other things) a girdle of giants str, and ogre power gloves which gave it some kind of set bonus that I don't remember anymore.

Anyway, the DM ruled that it ended up being the equivalent of a high powered bullet, so on any crit it exploded someone's head with no save. Basically a ranged on crit vorpal throwing hammer.
Osharan, Esharan, Osharina, Usharina, etc... I'm the 'sharans. Epoxy. Notverysexy.

    http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shrinkItem.htm

Very large, very heavy object with Shrink Item cast on it. Put it on top of something and say the command word to end the spell when someone walks under it.

After we did that one time, our DM said that additional uses of that trick had a chance of a bad-guy spellcaster seeing us do it while they were scrying on us. Not a big chance, but if we didn't want to see that trap used against us in every single quest that we walked into, we'd need to make sure that the exploit wasn't discovered by evildoers.

Edit: Suggested, but never actually tried - Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale.

    Home brewed item,

    Sword of 7- IIRC +7 longsword 19-20x7. On a hit roll 1d4 for damage. 1=7, 2=77, 3=777, and 4=7777. A gift from a paladins patron diety.

    Home brewed class,

DaggerMaster. Really just a monk that used daggers as his unarmed attack with a rogues sneak attack bonus. Until the he started throwing them flurry of blows style for SA damage.

    ...yeah, prooooobbably shouldn't have given it to a level 7. >.>;;

Any Wizzy who's powerful enough to cast that spell would also have a way to negate the damage or take it and just not die. Or die and instantly come back to life. Or...

Greater Choker of Eloquence. It does no damage, it ups no base stats... It does give a +10 to your interaction skills (Bluff & Diplomacy). Which when combined with a Sorcerer or Bards high charisma score & maxed out skill ranks means that fighting is more of an option, then a neccesity. Whats more any DM who hasn't seen it in action wont try and deny it to your PC, so shhhhhhh, lets keep this between you and me... The DM doesn't need to know.

The Battle Standard of the Iron Legion.

A standard is used to inspire the legion, think of roman standards, or the standards borne in the napoleonic wars, stuff like that. Now ask yourself what inspires....

The item had all the songs and spell of a bard of the level of the item. It required a players actions to use those abilities (had to be within close range to use).

The Item could level up by being decorated with victory trophies from battles etc. When it levelled up the players got to choose the spells learnt.
