Default HE variant on Big Rock Candy (rogue 2 / ftr 18 SD)

Sorry, guys, no clever nickname for this build, so I figured I should just be honest about whom I'm ripping off and making the original look better by comparison.

For those unfamiliar with BRC: essentially, this is a TWF Stalwart Defender (though it starts life as a Kensai and doesn't switch to SD until it takes Combat Expertise) with a rogue splash for UMD & Evasion. I took the paladin Dilettante feat for the boost to saves; Force of Personality lets you dump-stat WIS. For a change of pace I specced it for heavy picks (which seem to be the new go-to weapon for epics); but the usual choice of khopesh is an option (take Slash feats instead of Pierce, naturally). I also loves me some Stunning Blow, so I put some effort into boosting SB DC. [I was actually tempted to go with warhammers: partly for novelty, mostly to make sure Stunning Blow DC is maxed at all times.]

Human vs HE: a human version of this build would have 1 more feat, possibly +10% healing amp, and could boost its Intim higher (up to +6) with the Sentinel DMs & Deneith Intim enhs; but it would lose the saves bonus from paladin dilly and the 2nd Intim timer which HEs get.

Pure vs rogue 2: a pure fighter would have 1 extra feat, higher endgame DPS from capstone, and possibly higher AC (since it would presumably use heavy instead of light armor). But you give up Evasion & max ranks of UMD. Personally I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of DPS for Evasion and UMD, but it is a tradeoff.

Dilettante choice: another option would be to take Favored Soul or sorcerer at first; this would let you use either divine or arcane wands & scrolls while leveling; then when your UMD is high enough, feat-swap to paladin for the saves bonus. Or you could take the rogue dilly for 3D6 SA if you find the saves bonus either unnecessary or insufficient; but since the idea is to be a tank, this would only boost your DPS when mobs are in an auto-crit state.

Tomes: I built it with the de facto obligatory +2 Supreme, but all that's really needed is +2 DEX for ITWF & GTWF and +2 INT for CE & enough skill pts to max Intim & UMD. In fact the +2 WIS is a waste, since the whole point in taking FoP is so you can ignore WIS entirely (one less item slot to worry about).

With the forthcoming U9 nerf to helplessness, I've decided to switch to the all-mighty khopesh. I also added the shield feats at the end, even though I'm not sure they're worth it. If I change my mind, I'll swap for Bullheaded, SF Intim, and Dodge like the original build.

It occurred to me that since versatility can be used to duplicate both the haste or armor class boosts (although one a a time)... if it's possible for your other enhancements, I suggest removing either haste or armor class boost to max both versatility and one other boost. Use the left over points for something else...

What will your final AC and HP be once capped and geared?

Versatility does NOT provide Haste boost; it can provide bonus to skills, damage, attack rolls, saves, or armor class. Sadly, it cannot sub for a class PrE enh; still need to take ftr AC Boost or Attack Boost for SD or Kensai, respectively.

Good question! That's what I need help figuring out, as I still suck at figuring out optimal endgame gear. In particular, I don't know what's the best light armor for a build such as this; or should I go for robes?

I'm not sure about light-armor or robes for this. I believe the original build went WF because you could get the highest evasion AC at the time with a docent. My knowledge with AC is mostly TWFing monk-splashes.

Please correct me if anything here is wrong . . .

    10 Base
    1 Dodge
    4 Icy Raiments Dodge
    1 Alchemical Dodge
    9 Dexterity
    9 Shield
    3 Chattering ring
    4 Insight (Shroud Crafted)
    6 Protection (Ligh and Dark)
    3 Barkskin Pot
    8 Armor Bracers
    5 Combat Expertise
    1 Haste
    2 Ranger Bark
    4 Bard song
    2 Recitation
    2 PSA
    2 Yugo
    4 Airship
    4 Stance
    2 Mabar Cloak
    3 Stalwart
    2 Stalwart Set Bonus
    5 Blocking

    96

In my opinion you want at least 700 HP in stance with Yugo pots and all that stuff for Horoth. You need to be able to absorb a disintegrate. A Blocking AC of 85+ works for the S&B stalwarts I roll with. The get missed most of the time and the DR helps a great deal. My Stalwart TWFs so I'm doing my damndeest to get the AC over 90.

    How are you hitting DEX 28? Base 15 + 2 tome + 1 rogue enh + 6 item + 2 ship buff + ... ?

Epic Kundarak Delving Suit + Chaosgarde would be AC 13; but that caps your MDB at 7 (though that can be bumped up with Greater Nimbleness and/or ftr Armor Mastery). Or could Levik's set + DT leather be worthwhile or should I just skip that?

I copied it from my fighter, adjust to fit yours.

If the Mabar cloak is available that's the way to go over Chaos guards. It'll allow you to equip all three parts of Leviks.

The new leather armor is ideal for this kind of build 10 armor +12 max dex bonus and dodge 4. You won't consistantly fill out the dex portion but it does leave a little bit of room for yugo/ship/store/house d buffs to dex to still boost that amount.

Fantastic idea - that'll beat Icys and bracers, right?

Added a khopesh-based version to the 2nd post; with the forthcoming nerf to helplessness, heavy picks will cease being the preferred flavor of the moment.

I'm thinking of doing this as my 36 point TR (2 fighter past lives) Could anyone recommend where I'd put my last 4 points? I was considering 1 int, 1 cha and 1 dex as it would save me some action points (or allow me to keep an even number with exceptional bonuses to ability scores) and give me an extra skill point. Anyone have any better advice? I'd also considered 1 strength 1 int.
