Unhappy Can't "Use", No HP, Loading new areas never End and other

HI. I have some problems with DDO. This problems made my game unplayable:
    - When I log in very offen my HUD looking something like this

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

No HP, Hotbars are elsewhere, can't puss "USE" button (and do anything). Only option is quit because logout is not working too.

    - When I have lucky and problem above not appear, I have problem when entering areas (or just change the instance from e.g Harbour 1 to Harbour 2 or 3). Two kind of problem:

    - First: sometimes when enter to new zones, game stop in "Loading pleas wait...", with full bar. It is like never ending "Loading screen". When I press Alt+Tab and return to game I hear surrounding place and even can press Free Lock and see my cursor. But the "Loading pleas wait..." screen is still there. Only solution is to go Task Manager and End game. (And relog)

    - Second: Sometimes when entering the zones, I have no "Loading pleas wait..." screen and go immediately in to the area. But after can’t do anything else, like press "USE" button to speak with anyone, use vendors, enter the ship. I can press hotbar’s button, and e.g cast spell, but hotbar is not react like turn on cooldown.

    This is my DXdiag:

    My Computer:
    - Win XP Professional
    - CPU: Intel DualCore 1,8 Ghz
    - Graphic: GeForce 8600 GS
    - RAM: 2 GB (2x1 GB)

Now I ask for help, because I still want to play this game, but after this problems I have no more fun with it. Sorry for my English but this is not my first language. Anyone have this problem and solve it?

are you getting any weirdness with any other programs?

was it working and now not?

have you tried rolling back to when it was working?

have you (or anything) done anything to .net stuff? (your win7 shouldn't be a issue but something to check)

are your HDD read/write times as zippy as they should be?

my last drive started getting sick and was having the same issues. Defrag and chk/scan disk came out fine but my read/write times where just horrible. the data on the drive was fine, the controller part of the drive was dieing. i would try another drive if you have a spare and see if that makes a difference.

    Hi Requiro,

I assume you have one hard disk partitioned in to logical drives:

    Code:

          Drive: C:
    Free Space: 1.6 GB
    Total Space: 20.0 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: ST332062 0AS SCSI Disk Device

          Drive: D:
    Free Space: 0.6 GB
    Total Space: 100.0 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: ST332062 0AS SCSI Disk Device

          Drive: E:
    Free Space: 4.3 GB
    Total Space: 50.0 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: ST332062 0AS SCSI Disk Device

          Drive: F:
    Free Space: 3.2 GB
    Total Space: 135.2 GB
    File System: NTFS
Model: ST332062 0AS SCSI Disk Device
Free space and fragmentation would appear to be the culprit for not completely drawing the interface when you log in.

The highest amount of space you have is 8% so your pagefile more than likely does not have sufficient contiguous space (wherever it is located)

I would free up as much space as possible in all the partitions (deleting unnecessary data/uninstalling programs); defragment each logical drive; purchase another drive and locate the pagefile on the second drive, using that for future storage needs and program installations.

    Maxelcat:

Nothing special in other programs / games.
DDO was fine, some problem with connection ealier but that was problem with router. I replace the router.
Problem starter after Update7 and getting worse over time.

Idk what you mean by "have you tried rolling back to when it was working?" Rooling back what? System? So no - I'm not tried. To many changes.

Also don't understand what you mean by .net stuff? I have Windows XP like I posted above.

And I have only one disk. And have no problem with him. Working fine. But how can I check the read/write times?

    Thx for replay Smitey.

I will try remove as much as I can.

But i'm hardly belive that this solve the problem, becouse eariler I have even less free space, and everything was fine.

    remove pando booster...

2gb on win xp is pushing it. My old comp was like that and initial log ins were like that at times...and from zone to zone took forever.

    I would advise more ram...

I would check to see what else is running by going to start....run...(or whatever it was) and type msconfig
See what is set up to run at start up that way and decide what you do not want.
Right click on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and select task manager to see what is up too.

chances are you just need to free up that ram and possibly some internet use (like the pando booster you used to download the game...bandwidth hog)

    run virus software scan.

if drive is almost full, can cause problems running intensive programs

I based my assumption on the fact I have seen an empty hp bar at logon - but only after logging 15 characters performing housekeeping with each; it didn't last that long but it was a symptom of client-side slowness. I imagine that on a slower system a constricted pagefile could well cause the UI behaviour you are experiencing.

The "Loading please wait..." message, if not occurring during database maintenance period on the servers (approx 9am GMT) is again normally client-side issue with loading the required data from local DDO dat files.

    Article on customising the pagefile:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307886

Which you will want to do after making free space and defragmenting.

if you set it up XP has the ability to roll back to a previously working version.

.net is a microsoft product required to run DDO with XP. i think its .net 1.1 and later. if update 7 chaged any of your .net files might be that http://www.microsoft.com/net/

read write times is here http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...f-hard-drives/

reading along the full drive sounds like the culpret to me.

wait. if tht doesn't make the stuff reappear on the hot bars, reboot. it happens with my dual core, it all the hot bars are scrambled, empty, and i have no hp.... anyhow. wait, it will all come back. if not, reebooot. and if that doesn't work, bake yourself a cake, eat the cake, and punch your computer. then reeinstall.

    Default Same problem

I'm having the same problem - just started this week. No HP (although sometimes after quit/login do have hp), can't interact with anything/anybody, empty shortcut bars, etc. Also noticed that I can't logout, only quit. Annoying!

I have Windows Vista, lots of space etc; don't think it's operating system related. And nothing has changed on my system for a while, game was working fine until recently.

    Weird....

    Default A fix?

OK, this seemed to fix it for me for some reason, don't know if the fix is permanent. I noticed that I couldn't login to this site either (using Firefox). So I logged into this site with Internet Explorer (this might have done it); then went back to Firefox and removed all sites from my cookies exceptions list; then was able to log into here.

When I tried playing, the game worked for me fine. Wonder if it's something to do with IE and offline mode or something like that? I noticed that my characters hadn't been updated since 31 Jan, so perhaps it's something to do with a missing link between my game files and my account info? Anyway, no idea why, but try making sure you can login to the website and see if that makes a difference.

    Curiouser and curiouser...

    @Requiro

I have the same symptoms when Im downloading something on my 2nd machine (same net) and trying to play DDO at the same time. What's your ISP, and do you share connection with other people (family/neigbours)?

Btw, keep in mind that around 10-11 GMT+1 (which I assume is your time zone) there is massive lag on every server and effects of it is pretty much what you described.

ok, that is definitely not normal, but may require some troubleshooting.
that thing where you get no hp and unarranged hotbars looks familiar, it is how it is when you are still loading.
thus i imagine your install has trouble getting server data to finish loading.

double check your router permissions and any firewall you may have both in windows and in your router.
not sure what other thing could be wrong with data besides actual connectivity problems with your ISP.
these things won't be fixed with a reinstall so you gotta keep looking.

    This.

You are seeing "correct" behavior from the game. When you first log in, the game
puts everything in a default place, then reads your screen placement stuff from the
server and adjusts everything. This is also the time that the game is loading the
instance you see. As the instance is loading, the client is pulling tiles and textures
off the harddrive. Once everything is loaded from the server, your HP is set to
some number other than zero, and all your screen elements should be in the right
    place.

Each time DDO does an update, it replaces hundreds, maybe even a couple thousand
files. If your harddrive is fairly full, it is likely that the last update (or two) ended
up sending fragments of files all over the harddrive, and it is now taking bloody
forever to load them at startup time.

So, first I would try de-fragging the partition with DDO on it. If it says there isn't
enough space to run defrag, then that definitely points to it being the problem.
In that case, I would do a complete re-install. Otherwise, you may find that a
defrag will solve most of your problems.

I think someone already mentioned having your swap file on a different partition
than your DDO install. This can also help a lot.

2Gb of memory should be fine for an XP box, provided you don't have a ton of other
stuff running at the same time. I have 2Gb on my XP box and have no problems
running the high-res version of DDO and Firefox at the same time in main memory.

    Good Luck!

    Default I'll try it

Thanks; I recently defragmented and have plenty of room on my drive. I'll give it another go and see if that fixes it. I have a ticket in with tech support, if they provide me with a useful fix I'll post it here as well.

    cheers!

    Thanks everyone for replay.

    What I have done:

    - Free lots of space, and will try to free even more. (e.g on drive C have now 30% free space)
    - Use PerfectDisk program to defrag every partition.
    - Use PerfectDisk to defrag pagefile and system files on system reboot.

    Result:

    - My system run now much more faster
    - DDO starting much faster
    - After some test don't see any longer Hotbar problems (no more zero HP, ect.)
    - Same, don't notice any more "No Loading screen" problem when entering new zones.

    But:

    - Still have problem with "Never Ending Loading Screen" problem.
    - I see new patern: First time when go in to the game, after 3-4 loading next one will stuck. After relog I can play longer, but always, after some time game still stuck in "Loading, pleas wait..." screen.

    Some more information:

    - Don't try reinstal .NET yet. Maybe this will help.

    - I have pagefile on other partition when DDO (pagefile is set to min. 2048 max 3069)

    - Router and firewall probably are not a problem. I haven’t any other connection problem.

    - I share my connection with 3 other computers. But this is not a problem. DDO stuck no matter who many computers are online.

    Any other suggestion?

That's good to hear the main symptoms are resolved Requiro,

The zoning hang could be down to your network connection.

To check the state first of all:

If you enter Options>UI settings>'show Network status display' it will give you the real-time ping and loss stats in a tooltip that appears when you hover over the icon.

When you next get this issue I would ALT+TAB to windows, bring up the command prompt
    (start>run>cmd)
    and type:
    tracert gls.ddo.com
to see if any hops are timing out.

When you installed the Nvidia nforce motherboards drivers, did you select or permit the network management software? this software isn't a driver and can sometimes cause additional overhead/filtering that should only be performd by your firewall so I'd recommend uninstalling it.

On the subject of firewall which software are you using and have you ensured that the port range of 9000-9010 UDP is permitted?

In a shared environment it might be advisable to configure port forwarding on your router to ensure the DDO packets are routed to your PC specifically.

    Smile

Thanks Smitey for help. After you advice I looked closer to my firewall, and...

... I thing my problem is solved

    What I done:

    - Reinstall the Microsoft .NET Freamwork 1.1
    - Looking deep in my software firewall, and "allow all" to dndclient program.

So now I don't know which one was the problem but... I have no more stuck in "Loading please wait..." screen (well... after 100 or 150 entering the zone - maybe I was just lucky...)

    Thanks everyone for help.

    Default Think I'm fixed too

Yep, it does seem like DDO is way more sensitive to space/fragmentation/loss than other online games I play. I ran cleandisc to free up some space etc and that seemed to do the trick.
