Default A quick hello from Afghanistan

It is has been a while since I have had internet access here in Bagram, but I finally have access for a few days. Just wanted to say hello to all my frineds and let you know that everything is going well. Once I get to my FOB I *might* have a connection that will allow me on DDO, but I will not know untill I get there, and I do not yet know what FOB I will be going to, nor when I will actually get there.

The living conditions here are not nearly as nice as Iraq, I am in a tent with 50 of my new-found closest friends. And I think about 10 of them speak English. Good Times. The food is ok, but the DFACs have much less choice than I became accustomed to in Iraq. Also, the PX is far smaller than I like, and the military gets to go to the PX for 2 hours before us civvies do, so most of the good stuff sells out early. I understand why they get first access, (and I have no problem with it), bt it does make getting some thing a little more difficult than I expected.

At least I like cold weather, because the heater in the tent is barely worth the title "heater". I am almost regretting moving from the top bunk to the bottom bunk, at least the top bunk was right under the heating vent, and the bottom bunk is right next to a great big drafty mesh that lets in the cold.

And yes, they call it A$$-Crackistan for a reason.

I hope to see you all in-game soon

...and we prolly don't really need to know exactly where it is. Dunno how close to the tactical situation ya are, but keep your Opsec in mind.

Good luck and get home safe.

    Thank you everyone.

I do want to be clear about one thing though... I am not in the military. I am a private contract paramedic. I am part of the LOGCAP IV project, LOGistics Civil Augmentation Program. We support the military, provide basic services and maintain the bases that the soldiers work on. I do not go "outside the wire", I do not carry a weapon. While it is dangerous here (the insurgents do not care if you are a soldier or not, nor does a mortar shell) I am not on the front lines or out in the field.

I have more respect and admiration for the soldiers out here than i can express, and i do not want there to be a mis-understanding.

DFACs.. sometimes you love them, sometimes you hate them. DFCAC is the Dining FACility for those of you that do not know the term. Yesterday was a blah day. Today... well, the ribeye steaks were a little too done for me, but since I am eating a steak in Afghanistan I guess I should not complain. The baked potatos were also pretty good, at least once I covered it in bacon and cheese. But the lobster tails were really really good tonight.. I had 4. I may have over done it a bit, but they have not had lobster for a couple of weeks, had to get mine while the gettin' was good.

At least I skipped the ice cream tonight. I will make up for that tomorrow.

It is not always that bad here.
