    Default The Borderlands

Don't you miss the Borderlands surrounding The Keep in B2 I think it was?

Maybe this was your first experience with an outdoor adventure as you traveled to the Caves Chaos?

Did you meet the Mad Hermit and his pet? (no spoiler)

Did you run into the Lizard-Men to the south? (I would sometimes make these guys the PC's allies if they played their cards right.)

Or perhaps you found the spider-layer? (Hobbit homage?)

This was my first outdoor area I played and DM-ed.

Later we switched to big cities like Barnacus or the metropolitan Lankmar.

What did you and your fellow player's accomplish?

Hackmaster Basic has a completely updated and expanded version of the keep and it will be compatable with advanced hackmaster plus a bonus the first expanison for it will be the caves of chaos. Even if you dont care for hackmaster(its not the samething they came out with years ago as a semi joke) it is easily adaptable for any system not to mention their monster manual(still in beta ) is the best such ever.

anyways loved the keep years ago and this new product awaked my love all over again

nvr played dnd basic we started with original dnd and we straight to advanced basic came out nearly the sametime as ad&d but slightly after we did use the keep though dm just did some slight conversions for ad&d but if we had I am sure I would have been allowed to be chaotic

Ahh - the magic of memory teleport!
B2 was my very first intro to anything D&D - that was about 30yr ago. I still have all my origional modules etc.
LOL - we didnt even have d20 so we rolled 3xd6 and made a cardbord triangular prism and allocated the 3 sides zero, one and two (total 3-20).
Thats when imagination won the battles (and the day) , not zerging with farmed ordinance.

Nice thread - makes me feel still young at 40hr.

played both the original and the 2nd ed silver anniversary return to the keep on the borderlands. then later had the DM use both to create probably the best time travel campaign ever.

actually played the return several times as he converted it to 3 and 3.5. I recall in one the assassin with the wizard wife had successfully framed 2 of the party, while another had gotten himself charmed by the fat lech slave trader and was being used unwittingly to transport kidnapped girls out of the keep in barrels. Sadly when he was made aware of what he had done, and was so shamed he chose to sacrifice himself in the effort to rescue them later. Such is the fate of paladins at times.

Yes one of the best starting bases for players. as it could be used for a long time to come. Especially if you played on greyhawk. Its placement allowed it to be a great spring board for those who might go on to tackle against the giants.

    Default Other Fun things...

Other fun things about b2 that COULD happen...

    1) Make friends with the Lizard Men
    2) Fuel a war between the Hobgoblins & the Orcs.
    3) Break a law in the keep, get arrested...Break out and slay all who oppose you.

    Any other crazy things happen...???
