Default Epic Item Review (Revised and Complete Edition)

So quite a lot has happened with Epics since I did my first thread like this. My list was fairly incomplete and many items had changed in value due to other items coming out new game mechanics etc. So I have done a list of all the epic items to date along with my take on their usefulness and a general overll rating of the item. Keep in mind I encourage discussion regarding my rankings. If you see something that you feel I overrated or maybe didn't view from the right builds perspective point it out. Healthy discussion regarding items is good for us as players nd if a dev reads them may give insight to improving them or for future items.

    Rating Scale

    1. Not a good item for really anything other than the most extreme of niche builds etc.

    2. Usually a situationally useful item for quite a few builds or a full time use item for a small niche.

    3. A decent all around item usable by a fair amount of builds. Often has a better option but still something very viable.

    4. Strong item that would be desired by many builds. Something you would actively farm for.

    5. Best item in slot for a wide variety of characters.

    6. Overpowered. Often in need of a nerf. Items in this area tend to greatly overshadow other items and extremely tip the scales away from variety in build gearing to cookie cutter same gear builds we had before epic came out.

    Sands of Menechtarun

Epic Adherent’s Pendant: Necklace – Superior Devotion IV, Wizardry VI, Lesser Action Boost Enhancement, Colorless Slot (Paladin Only UMD: 16) A really weak item that just doesn’t provide any benefit to pally’s. Their action boosts are all weak anyways. This appears to be intended for a healing focus pally but a torc here would be just a much better idea for that kind of build. To possibly make it worth it give it archmagi, swap the action boost to an extra loh or two and give it a mnemonic charge like the bauble. Up the umd to something silly like 45 or drop the umd requirement altogether. Rating: 1

Epic Ancient Vulkoorim Dagger: +6 Adamantine Dagger (2d4 dmg), Epic Giant Bane, Giant Slayer, 2d8 Extra Dmg Vs. Giants Red Slot I like this item, for what it does it does very well. It outdoes dps of greensteel versus the mobs it’s designed for. A possible change would be to give it mithril instead of adamantine to work against the reaver. Rating: 3.5

Epic Bejeweled Letter Opener: +6 dagger (2d4 dmg), Thundering, Keen, Improved Resonance VII, Superior Devotion VII, Efficient Metamagic-Empower Healing II, Healing Amp-20% Red Slot This thing has a lot of flashy mods yet really doesn’t do anything. Appears to be designed for Bards so increase the Resonance to fully enhance greater shout, Healing Amp should be 30%. Even then its still hard to find a use for this. Rating 1

Epic Bloodstone: Trinket, Seeker 8 Hard to argue with a better bloodstone, I don’t think anyone who gets the stuff for this won’t make it and use it frequently. The difficulty to acquire though could maybe warrant at least a colorless slot. Rating 4

Epic Bow of the Elements (Air): +6 Longbow (2d8 dmg) Modified Crit Range 19-20, Shocking Burst, Dexterity +7, Whirlwind Absorption (20 charges, 5/day), Red Slot, Colorless Slot Not a bad bow although the whirlwind charges are essentially moot due to no one ever getting knocked down anymore. Rather that be changed to something like 33% lightning absorption. DPS is ok but falls behind Epic Thornlord significantly. Rating: 3

Epic Bracers of Deftness: Bracers, Armor +8, Mobility, Tumble 15, Lesser Swiftness A good set of ac bracers with extra benefits for rogues. Not nearly as coveted as when epics first came out due to other bracers being released or upgraded. Rating: 3.5

Epic Bracer’s of the Demon’s Consort: Bracers, Demonic Curse, Demonic Shield, Demonic Retribution, Intimidate 15, Yellow Slot, Colorless slot. A really under appreciated item. The bonus hp effect is really strong and even better when stacked with other bonus hp granted effects on hit. The occasional neg level can be a pain so you want to be able to remove it or be a Pale Master who is immune. The dual slots Really help. Intimidate seems a bit out of place here. Rating: 3

Epic Bracers of the Hunter: Bracers, Hide 15, Sneak Attack +5, Reflex Save +5, Stealth Strike, Yellow Slot A good source of sneak attack dmg. Unfortunately it now competes with Epic Bracers of claw for slot. Change reflex save to maybe +3 epic for better versatility. Rating: 3.5

Epic Bramble Casters: Gloves, Greater Spearblock, Greater Thorn Guard, Yellow Slot One of best DPS guards in game. Epic claw gloves kinda makes obsolete. Good for someone who get hits a lot but doesn’t need claw set. Not many of these around. Rating: 3

Epic Cape of the Roc: Cloak, Feather Falling, Exc Str +1, Exc Str +2, Roc’s Strength (CL8, 3/rest), Yellow Slot A great item for monks who don’t have the luxury of +2 exc str on their Tod rings. The clickie is weak as are most of the epic clickie’s leaves some to be desired. Maybe copy over the Titan’s grip clickie here to improve. Rating: 4

Epic Chainmail Coif: Helmet, Eternal Faith, Superior Devotion VII, Devotion IX, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot Weak item for the time spent to acquire. Carnival has better Helms here and those aren’t particularly strong. 2 slots and a boost to mass heal does give it some redeeming value but not much. Needs something unique to distinguish it but not sure what. Rating:1.5

Epic Chaosblade: +6 Khopesh (2d8 dmg), Anarchic Burst, True Chaos, Vampirism, Vorpal, Red Slot Situationally one of the best DPS items in game especially in the hands of a full pally with enough umd to equip it. Vorpal is a nice add-on for non epic content and the vampirism works great with high healing amp builds. Rating: 5

Epic Cloak of the Zephyr: Cloak, Blurry, Superior Lightning Lore, Invisibility (3 charges 3/rest), Yellow Slot With air savants being introduced I think this carries a little more weight now. An unique and potent item for a small subset of builds. Still think its odd they made casters want what was always kinda considered a melee item however. Rating: 3.5

Epic Collapsible Shortbow: +6 Short Bow (2d6 dmg, enhanced crit profile 19-20 x3) Jump +15, Swim +15, Tumble +15, Sneak attack Bonus +4, Force Burst, Does Slashing and Piercing Dmg, Red Slot, Colorless Slot A handy and useful bow. Not too many dr/slash mobs in game zombies come to mind of which none are too tough but still a bonus. Comparable to epic bow of elements DPS. Not exceptional but nothing too bad either. Rating: 3.5

Epic Coronation Shield: Shield (2d6 dmg) Undead Guard, Blinding Flash, Violet Slot Epic shields have one thing going for them. They carry the same ac as +5 mithril tower shields when enchanted with a +7 enhancement bonus and have no max dex. That being said shields are weak in DDO due to game design issues. Of the epic shields there are better ones. Rating: 1.5

Epic Demon Scale Armor: +6 Scale Armor, Electrical Absorption 20%, Acid Absorption 15%, Cold Absorption 15%, Fire Absorption 15%, Improved Lightning Resist, Proof Against Poison, Blue Slot Having all those absorptions available to you at least as a swap isn’t bad. This armor only carries a 5% spell failure too so can be slooted and used by arcanes with no spell failure. Arcanes usally seem to be the ones given the jobs of kiting around the stuff that does huge amounts of elemental dmg and not easy to kill and this would be a good tool there. Rating: 3.5

Epic Dusk Heart: Trinket, Superior False Life, Dusk, Mass Death Ward (1 charge, 1/rest, CL 7) Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot Just doesn’t do enough to warrant using over other end game trinkets. LOTD, Bloodstone, Epic jerky, Epic gem of many facets, Unsupressed Ioun Stones. As such this is relegated to an extremely hard to acquire dw clickie. Rating: 2

Epic Dustless Boots: Boots, Striding 30%, Hide +15, MS +15, Jump( CL: 20 3 charges 3/rest), Yellow Slot Some added stealthy beneficial quests like epic claw increase the value of these some but still better than the standard 30% stirders with no extras many characters wear. Rating: 4

Epic Dynastic Falcata: +6 Khopesh (2d8 dmg Cha Attack and Damage Mod) Cha +7 Adamantine, Axiomatic Burst, True Law, Red Slot The Cha dmg and attack mod make this a situational weapon. At best in the hands of a full 20 pally who will have high cha for DM IV and the good dmg to allow this to bypass marilith dr and other demons. Would be much better if it had cold iron so other somewhat high cha classes could also bypass that dr. Adamantine is a waste here. Rating: 2.5

Epic Firestorm Greaves: Boots, Greater Fire Resistance, Fire Absorption 33%, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot Hard to acquire with really not enough useful additions to really justify upgrading these and losing the boundedness of them. Suggested improvement would be superior fire resistance and a couple fireshield clickies. Double slots could be a useful option for some builds. Rating: 3.5 (regular boots would probably be a 3)

Epic Flint: +6 Dagger (2d4 dmg), Shocking Burst, Lightning Storm Guard, Lightning Strike, Magnetism IX Red Slot That’s a lot of lightning dmg. Being a dagger hurts its ability to compete with Greensteel though unless you are also getting hit a lot. Not enough mobs that are susceptible to lightning dmg to warrant using this much. May be best on an intimitank who doesn’t need to swing a higher dps weapon. Mag IX seems way out of place here and theres no high level electrical spells it would benefit. Rating: 2.5

Epic Gloves of the Falcon: Gloves, Dex +7, Spot +15, Heightened Awareness +2, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot Competes with Claw cloves Epic charged gauntlets and Epic Spectral gloves all of which are more easily obtained. All are also better. Does provide monks with an ability to get insight bonus without using greensteel weapons or DT. This bonus should be +4 though. Two slots do provide some nice item consolidation. Rating 3.5

Epic Golden Greaves: Boots, DR4/-, Striding 20%, Disease Immunity, Yellow Augment Slot A nice place to get dr if you have no other way. Upping dr to 5 and striding to 25 or even 30 would not overpower these in any way. Rating: 3.5

Epic Green Blade: +6 Kukri (2d4 dmg), Greater Arcane Lore, Lesser Potency IX, Spell Pen IX, Force Burst, Red Slot A nice item and offers some hard to get benefits like spell pen and boosts to lev 9 spells. This is an iconic caster item though and the epic version should also be iconic but its really not. Give it Major Arcane Lore instead and something else somewhat significant then it gets put back where it belongs at the top of many casters want list. Rating: 3.5

Epic Hruvayah’s Medallion: Necklace, Spell Pen IX, Taint of Evil, Green Augment Slot It does offer Spell Pen IX and a coveted green slot but competes with the torc at that slot for casters. It’d have to do more than that to replace even a non-epic torc and as such is nothing more than a swap item when casting lots of wail or mass hold. Rating: 2.5

Epic Hyena Claw Necklace: Necklace, Intimidate 15, Constitution 7, Toughness, Yellow Slot Losing the dmg from a tod set on a dps melee is really not a good thing even for the extra hp. Casters wont give up torc for this so that leaves tank types for this really. Fighter types need this slot for their tod sets. Not a bad option for a pally tank especially now that they get intim as a class skill. Rating: 2.5

Epic Lion Headed Belt-Buckle: Belt, +6 Con, +6 Str, Roar, Immunity to Fear, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot A great slot consolidator. I like this item on a caster as they don’t lose as much from tod sets and the roar ability is nice for landing spells especially if something has been beating on you for a bit. Rating: 4

Epic Marilith Chain: +6 Chain Mail, Taint of Evil, Seeker +10, Shatter +10, DR5/good or lawful, Evil guard Blue slot Quite simply the best dps armor in game especially for epics where so many thing are in autocrit status. While many items from desert may have lost value over time due to newer epics coming out or etc. This one has gained due to half-orc release, Warchanter II and Epic gem of many facets allowing for multiple red fens sets much easier. I’d say it needs the nerf bat except that it is so hard to acquire so I think it is ok. Dropping to a 5 rating as no longer as powerful with changes to autocrit. Rating: 5

Epic Mirage: +6 Scimitar (2d6 dmg, enhanced crit profile 17-20 x2), Deception, Ghost Touch, Improved Cursespewing, Sneak Attack Bonus +4 Red Slot I like this weapon a lot. The higher crit range seems like a great addition. Unfortunately it still falls behind GS in most DPs Situations. All the little add-ons just aren’t enough to compensate for using a lower dps weapon. It is close enough that sneak attack 5 would lend itself to making this a great off hander for scimi using elves freeing up a slot elsewhere. Rating: 3

Epic Mummy Wrappings: +6 Padded Armor, Fearsome, Immunity to Fear, Negative Energy Absorption 20% Blue Slot This item lost me at fearsome. Change it to a despair effect that freezes mobs and im all for it. Otherwise these scrolls and seals are just watering down the loot table. Rating: 0

Epic Pouch of Jerky: Trinket, Superior False Life, Heal +15, Eat Jerky ( CL 10, 5/5 rest), Green Slot I love the green slot here. I love the enhanced jerky clickies. I love 10 more hp. I hate taking off a litany or Bloodstone. This could use just a little more especially due to the rarity of the scroll. Healing amp might be a good choice. Rating: 4

Epic Ring of Baphomet: Ring, Exc Str 2, Exc Con 2, Intimidate +15, Wis -1, Cha -1, Colorless Slot I really liked this when they first upgraded it and made the exc stats. Then they went and added the +2 con to claw bracers and I lost my love of this item as a tod ring beats it again and theres better ways to get +15 intim. Change the slot to green and I might be convinced to fall in love with it again. Rating: 3

Epic Ring of Spell Storing: Ring, Major Mnemonic Aid (CL 15, 3/3 rest) Colorless Slot If this wasn’t like the rarest epic item in the game I’d be saying it needs nerfed. Rating: 6

Epic Robe of Fire: Robe Greater Evocation Focus, Superior Combustion VI, Fire Resistance, Incineration Guard, Superior Inferno IX (CL 1, 3/3 Rest) Blue Slot This item alone turns meteor swarm from an also ran spell to one of the best nuke spells in game. Unfortunately Regalia of the phoenix does too and is much easier to get and has a built in lore too. This needs to be better than that item. Give it a stacking +10% epic bonus to DBF and meteor swarm and call it an excellent item. Rating: 3

Epic Sandstorm Glasses : Goggles, True Seeing, Blindness Immunity, Search 15, Spot 15, Yellow Slot. Look its tharne’s except infinitely harder to get and missing the best attribute of tharnes. This is a really poor excuse for an epic raid item. Rating: 0

Epic Seal of the Earth: Ring, Nat Armor +6, Greater Acid Resistance, Stoneskin (CL: 20 3/3 rest) Yellow Slot So it provides 1 more ac when with a a ranger or 3 more over a bark pot. Chattering Ring provides 3 more full time. Epic Concord provides 1 more than a prot 5 item full time and gives other good bonuses. This is actually a pretty weak comparison and is the hardest of the 3 to get. Rating: 2

Epic Shard of Vollun: Trinket, Archmagi, Improved Radiance IX Colorless Slot, Yellow Slot Hidden Effect Radiance Guard Archmagi is available many other places and for much less grind. Sunburst is still a really bad dps spell with this unless we start getting rooms full of epic vampires escorted by their throngs of epic ochre jellies. A trinket is a pretty valuable slot and this one would never find it’s way into any of my character’s. The radiance guard is a somewhat decent upgrade but still not worth a trinket slot in other than the rare swap instance. Rating: 1.5

Epic Shield of the Scorpion: +6 Large Shield, Greater Spearblock, Violet Slot See Epic coronation shiled for my thoughts on epic shields. That said this is the second best of them Rating: 2.5

Epic Shining Crest of St. Markus: Helm, Deathblock, Improved Devotion VIII, Greater Healing Lore, Green Slot Not a horrible item and many use it but probably also not worthy of being one of the epic desert raid items with their very hard to find scrolls either. Increase the healing capabilities and make this what it should be., Rating: 2.5

Epic Silken Mail: +6 Mithral Chainmail, Move Silently +15, Axeblock, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot A good armor for ac focused moderate dex builds like a fighter/rog splash. However there are better for those builds available. Rating: 3

Epic Sirroco: +6 Long Sword (2d8 dmg) Air Guard, Smoke Screen, Force Burst, Epic Telekinetic, Sirocco, Vertigo 10, Red Slot A lot of really fun stuff that seems like it would be nice but the telekinetic doesn’t work even on failed save. Sirocco effect will never land for a level 20 character unless he forgets to click epic difficulty on the carnival series. Dps is poor on a weapon type that is also poor. Rating: 2

Epic Spectacles of Spirit Sight: Goggles, Greater Enchantment Focus, Greater Necromancy Focus, Colorless Slot Two of the best schools to have the higher dc’s in. Other than Already crafted GS items not a significantly overused slot for casters. Would be nice if it was a yellow slot but otherwise a very solid item. Rating: 4

Epic Spectral Gloves: Gloves, Ethereal, Dex +7, Attack Bonus +4, Yellow slot. Once probably one of the most coveted epic items that didn’t involve farming up an ultra rare raid scroll or explorer shard. It’s value has lost a lot with the Epic Claw set. Still very good for finesse builds or low to hit builds. Maybe add the finesse feat? Rating: 4

Epic Spiked Turban: Helm, +5 Protection, +5 Resistance, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot A good item for consolidating effects. The two slots help. If you’ve managed to get your toughness and heavy fort elsewhere this isn’t a bad option if it possibly allows you to free up another slot. Rating: 3

Epic Staff of Arcane Power: +6 Quarterstaff (dmg 2d6), Archmagi, Arcane Augmentation IX, Good Luck +2, Spell Clickies (50 charges 10/rest) Violet Slot The augmentation gives this +2 stacking spell pen, longer duration buffs, higher dmg on spells like polar ray that increase above lev 20, better chance to resist dispells, higher dispells with disjunction, . Add to that the other bonuses and you’ve got a reason to start using a staff versus 2 weapons again. I like that feeling. Relocating the other abilities elsewhere can be a bit rough but worthwhile once you’ve found a home for everything. Rating: 4

Epic Staff of Inner Sight: +6 Quarterstaff (2d6 dmg, Dmg mod: Cha, Att mod: Int), Int +7, +2 Spell focus Mastery, Violet Slot, Colorless Slot A really nice caster item. Just like the above staff we are getting reasons to not use two handers. This thing is probably the best item in the game for dc casting esp for a wiz. Rating: 5

Epic Sting: +6 Shortsword (2d12 base dmg), Large Scorp Poison, Wounding, Puncturing, Proof Against Poison, Red Slot Wops are useless anymore. Well unless those are base dmg 2d12 wops with additional poison dmg. Especially fun when coupled with the fens venom set. Stat dmg is not very effective in epic but still does apply somewhat. If anything was gonna work and be worth it that would be a set of these. Then theres always those non epic quests you may run from time to time Rating: 3.5

Epic Stinkpelt’s Hide: +6 Hide Armor, -1 Cha, +7 Con, +2 Exc Con, Proof Against Poison, Cloudkill (3/rest) Blue Slot Have this on my barb until I can get a mari chain. It really eases a bit of the burden of not going with toughness as a feat. The cloudkill can be a nice concealment bonus for raids and such when theres no caster to do it. Loses a bit of oomph with the epic claw bracers having +2 con. Rating: 3

Epic Storm: +6 Heavy Crossbow (2d12 dmg), Shocking Burst, Thundering, Lightning Guard, Lightning Strike, Attack Bonus +4, Keen, Major Lightning Lore, Red Slot, Colorless Slot All those bonuses, great base dmg and it still sucks because it’s a crossbow. This should be made into a repeater at least to help those mechanic rogues. But as is it just isn’t really worth using. Rating: 0

Epic Thornlord: +8 Long Bow (2d8+4 base dmg, Crit profile 19-20 x3), Red Slot, Colorless Slot. Best bow in the game. Simple yet elegant and functional. Rating: 5

Epic Tinder: +6 Quarterstaff (2d6 dmg), Superior Combustion VII, Incineration guard, Greater Inferno IX (3/3 rest) Violet Slot, Blue Slot Gives WF a Inferno IX clickie which is nice. Other than that this is not anything exception and unlike the other staffs this one doesn’t give enough reason to lock up two hands. Rating: 2

Epic Torc of Prince Rayium-de II: Necklace, Greater Spell Penetration VIII, Wizardry VI, Transform Kinetic Energy, Colorless Slot So one of the best items in the game non-epic is still one of the best items when epic. Better spell pen and a slot are nice additions although it didn’t take much to upgrade this. Rating: 5

Epic Tourney Armor: +6 Mithral Full Plate (+13 Armor, MDB: 4) DR 5/Adamantine, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot Provides Good AC for FP users but theres better out there, not sure why this doesn’t have +15 armor bonus. Gives DR but theres better out there. This just doesn’t do enough on it’s own. Rating: 2

Epic Unkor’s Cleaver: +6 Battle Axe (2d8 Dmg) Limbchopper, Bleed, Keen, Vorpal, Eat Jerky 1/rest, Red Slot It’s a really good vorpal, but those aren’t really used much anymore, limbchopper was cool but that’s now gonna be on a khopesh that’s much lower level and much easier to get. A good weapon and I think most anyone would make one if they get the items for it but also nothing that makes me wanna specifically farm for it. A little better after U9 due to the additional 100 dmg to mobs on 20's. Gives it a bit better dps punch while still having good CC effect through limb chopper. Rating: 3.5

Epic Vambraces of Inner Light: +6 Full Plate, Charisma +7, Command, Superior Radiance VIII, Radiance Guard, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot A great Paladin armor, the Radiance VIII seems out of place but even take that off completely and I like this still. Rating: 4

Epic Vulkoorim Dervish Robe: Robe, Armor Bonus +6, Greater Fire Resistance, Efficient-Maximize II, Disintegration Guard, Blue Slot I like this for Ranger/Pally self healers that have taken Maximize. For them it gives Cheaper heals, some dps through the guard, and a needed blue slot. Rating: 3

Epic Vulkoorim Fighting Leathers: +6 Leather Armor, Greater Fire Resistance, +4 Attack Bonus, Hide 15, Sneak Attack +3. Blue Slot, Colorless Slot This is a decent armor that’s fairly easy to acquire. When running Epic +4 to hit is always nice and +3 sneak is far from optimal but if you’ve got no room for it elsewhere this is an option. Rating: 3

Epic Vulkoorim Pendant: Necklace, Improved Devotion VII, Devotion IX, Superior Nullification VII, Nullification IX, Taint of evil, Yellow Slot This thing helps mass heal and that is it really. Too many other items are much better in this slot. Rating: 1.5

Epic Ward of Undeath: +6 Heavy Shield: Greater Undead Bane, Flaming Burst, Ghost Touch, Flametouched Iron, Violet Slot See coronation shield for my take on Epic heavy shields. If they ever add sield bash into the attack chain for s&b then this may be of value but as of now it’s the worst of the heavy shields. Rating: 1

Epic Weathered Targe: +6 Small Shield, Densewood, Greater Lightning Resistance, Greater Spearblock, Violet Slot Greater Spearblock is never bad but also fairly easily available elsewhere. Not bad for someone taking lots of ranged hits ad still needing to cast. An arcane with this and a lifeshield thrower kiting orthons in elite tod for example. Still failry limited in scope and not enough to make me really want this item. Rating: 2

Epic Whirlwind: +6 Greatsword (2d8 dmg), Air Guard, Smoke Screen, Epic Telekinetic, Screaming, Thundering, Red Slot, Colorless Slot See epic sirocco for my take on this. Sadly this one can’t be used as an off hander. Rating: 1.5

Epic Wolf Whistle: Necklace, Disease Immunity, Listne 15, Summon Epic Thaarak Hound 1/rest Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot The summon ws changed to 5 min apparently with update 7. As such this makes it a more viable item and not just a wasted inventory slot. Rating: 2.5

Epic Xuum: +6 Falchion (2d8 dmg, 18-20 x3 Crit Profile), Flaming Burst, Incineration, Combustion IX, Violet Slot, Colorless Slot Good solid dps weapon. Not much else to say about it. Rating: 4

Epic Zephyr: +6 Shortsword (2d6 Base Dmg, 18-20 x2, Dmg Mod: Dex) Finesse, Red Slot Decent for extreme finesse builds but the utter inability to break dr with these and a complete lack of something similar for leveling up makes this a really niche item. I’d love to see the finesse mod changed exc dex +2 or even a stacking Profane/sacred bonus. Rating: 2

    Vault of Night

Epic Azure Necklace of Prophecy: Necklace, Superior Magnetism VIII, Greater Lightning Resistance, Green Slot The epic dragon necklaces are pretty bad as a whole. This is the worst of the bunch due to no high level electric spells. At the very worst change them to clickies to go along with the tod sorc belts. Rating: 1

Epic Belt of the Mroranon: Belt, Str 7, Heavy Fort, Toughness, Yellow Slot A very strong item the only drawback is the loss of a tod set. Rating: 4.5

Epic Cloak of the Silver Concord: Cloak, Cha 7, Haggle 15, Diplomacy 15, Persuasion, Yellow Slot another very strong item, great for umd characters as persuasion replaces the need to buy a bunny hat. A good slot here and easily swappable if needed. Rating: 5

Epic Crimson Necklace of Prophecy: Necklce, Superior Combustion VIII, Greater Fire Resistance, Green Slot see the azure necklace. Rating: 1

Epic Docent of Grace: +6 Docent, Dex 7, Balance 15, Tumble 15, Immunity to Slippery Surfaces, Reinforced Plating +2, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot A good docent for dex based WF not too many of those running around though. At the very worst a good swap for things like chulthuzz wing of litany and white dragon in tor. Rating: 3

Epic Dragon’s Eye: Trinket, Archmagi, Superior Efficacy IX (3 charges), Yellow Slot Good for the 1 minute boosts to mass heals. Best amplifier for that spell. Other then as a clickie though not great. Maybe add the shroud bonus sp to this too and make it an option for more of a full time wearable item. Rating: 2.5

Epic Hammer of Life: +6 Maul (2d10 dmg), Good aligned, Natural Armor Bonus +4, Heal +20, Disruption Guard, Greater Disruption, Repair +20, Heal, Mass (3 charges, 1/rest CL 17) Violet Slot A good but nothing spectacular heal clickie. As an offensive weapon though it just falls short. It has the ability to bypass devil/demon dr but still does much less dmg than a min II. Greater Disruption as a whole needs fixed. It’s inferior to disruption. Rating: 2.5

Epic Helm of the Mroranon: Helm, Wis 7, Intimidate 15, Immunity to Fear, Yellow Slot Best wisdom item in the game. One of the better intimidate items due to being a helm. Not bad but nothing outstanding either. Rating: 3.5

Epic Ironweave Robe: Robe, Armor Bonus 8, Wizardry VI, Greater Magnetism VIII, Superior Spark IX, Blue Slot This needs to have Superior Lightning lore and a few high level Lightning spells added to the game to make it really usable. Rating: 1.5

Epic Kundarak Delving Boots: Boots, Freedom of Movement, Move Silently 15, Colorless Slot nothing here really improves these from the base item. The slot is nice but you can’t really put anything vital in there that isn’t elsewhere due to tod boots and sometimes wanting striders. Would have liked to have seen some sort of improvement. Rating: 3

Epic Kundarak Delving Goggles: Goggles, Blindness Immunity, Disable Device 15, Spot 20, Search 15, Open Lock 15, Yellow Slot. Nothing more than a convenience item for rogues. Slot it with a +6 int and you’ve got a one stop shop for all your trap needs but nothing you’d wear full time. Rating: 2.5

Epic Kundarak Delving Suit: +6 Mithral Chainmail, Silent Moves, Search 15, Spot 15, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot Along with Epic red dragon armor this is the best ac for a non monk evasion splash with a moderate dex (26-30). And it is moch easier to obtain. For those niche builds it’s worth it for most others though it’s nothing great. Having built in stealth is not bad now that more quests are stealth friendly. Rating: 3

Epic Kundarak Warding Bracers: Bracers, Con 6, Protection 5, Resistance 5, Yellow Slot Most everyone has con 6 from an amrath belt/neck and most ac characters need this slot for either +8 bracers or chaosguardes. That negates two of the items properties. Epic claw bracers further negate the usefulness of these. Seems like a lot of good properties but not enough to beat out other bracers in game. A possible solution is to up everything by 1. Con 7 prot 6, resist 6 would possibly be enough for an ac build to drop chaosguardes and eat the 1 ac for better versatility and slot consolidation. Rating: 2

Epic Kundarak Warding Shield: +6 Heavy Shield, Resistance 6, SR 25, Blue Slot, Violet Slot My thoughts towards heavy epic shields are in the Desert items sections for those shields. The double blue slots though does make this a better option and at least it’s not flaming burst. If you are gonna equip a shield this is the one to equip. Rating: 3

Epic Ring of the Silver Concord: Ring, Cha +7, Protection +6, Command, Yellow Slot A good umd swap, and the best protection bonus in the game. Competes with tod rings though and as such hurts it’s usefulness across multiple builds. Rating: 4

Epic Ruby Encrusted Guantlets: Gloves, Combustion IX, Benevolence IX, Meteor Swarm 5/day. Green Slot, Colorless Slot There are no good dmg spells at level 9 and one fire one which is better served by clickies off robes or epic tinder. The clickie is probably one of the most damaging in the game but that’s not saying much. Green Slot is rare for gloves and possibly the best use for this is just to get the use of a blue augment on gloves if a character was in dire need of one. Rating: 1

Epic Silver Necklace of Prophecy: Necklace: Glaciation VIII, Greater Cold Resistance, Green Slot See the azure necklace for my thoughts on this. Rating: 1

Epic Stonemeld Plate Armor: +6 Full Plate, DR5/-, Stoneskin 5/day, Earthgrab Guard, Blue Slot the earthgrab guard and the dr 5 are the best things about this item and extra stoneskin clicks are never a bad thing. But this armor fails to provide any benefit to defensive toons really and doesn’t add dps so it gets stuck as being a fairly poor item in comparison to what else is out there. An easy improvement would be to up the dr. I find turbines reluctance to add higher dr items to the game if even in a niche situation kind of disturbing. Rating: 2

Epic Sword of Shadow: +10 Adamantine Greatsword (base dmg 5d6, Crit profile 18-20 x3), Red Slot, Colorless Slot This reminds me of when the first version of the sword came out and was by far and away the best item in the game. The only things that stopped people using it was the introduction of dr to the game. Now this version comes around and even when facing those high dr mobs it’s still a better weapon than those that can pass the dr unless you are a barb on hard content or you are on elite devil boss content for any class. A huge mistake for balance purposes and should be hit with the nerf bat fairly hard. Unfortunately it’s been out for too long and too many people have one so the outrage this would cause could be as catastrophic as a greensteel nerf. Slightly less powerful with the changes to auto crit but still extremely powerful removing 6 rating for the time being. Rating: 5

Epic Helm of the Red Dragon: Helm, Strength 7, Magma Surge Guard, Improved Fire Augmentation IX, Yellow Slot The rarity of this item means it probably deserves better, Str 7 is nothing to sneeze at but the guard is one of the worst in the game since the slow doesn’t effect red/purple nameds. The spell augmentation does nothing for a full lev 20 caster. Rating: 4

Epic Red Dragonscale Armors: Superior Fire Resistance, Eternal Fire, Superior Combustion VIII, Superior Fire Lore, Fire Guard, Incineration Guard, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot Bunched all these together. Against non fire resistant mobs the best dps armor in the game. For casters the Superior fire lore makes it the best caster robe in game. For most every class in the game this is worth having. For some sort of melee focused caster this thing is better than any other item you could acquire. This is all good as the grind required to get one is pretty steep. Actually easier to acquire then marilith chain though and situationally better. Rating: 5

    Sentinels of Stormreach

Epic Blademark’s Docent: +6 Docent, Lifeshield, DR 5/Epic, Reinforced Plating 2, Blue Slot, Colorless Slot Life shield is a very rare effect and accounts for about 1.5 stacking dr. Not much bypasses the epic dr also. Theres better docent’s out there but this one holds it’s own. Rating:3.5

Epic Chimera’s Crown: Helm, SR 25, Nat Armor 5, Lesser Dragonmark Enhancement, Minor Greater Dragonmark Enhancement, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot This would be a pretty nice item if dragonmarks were better. For any build that uses the marks its good but not many of those around and most of those builds are really hurting themselves otherwise. This item doesn’t need fixed dragonmarks do. Rating: 2

Epic Chimera’s fang: +6 Bastard Sword (2d10 Base Dmg), Shocking Burst, Lightning Strike, Maiming, Shatter +10, Destruction, Greater Dragonshard Focus: Sentinel, Red Slot Like the crown above this item hurts form the poor abilities of the dragonmarks. It is also something that would want to be used while tanking a big boss and using a shield. The bulk of those need to have dr bypassed. This needs silver or metalline etc. to make this worth the feat investment required and allow a tank using it to still keep aggro. Rating: 2

Epic Deneith Heavy Chain: +6 Chainmail (Armor Bonus 15, MDB 1), Life Shield, DR5/Epic, Blue slot, Colorless Slot Significantly worse than the docent as medium armor generally means Barbs, FS, and Warchanter II’s. Each of these has at least as good or better dr capabilities. The lifeshield is still decent but nowhere near enough to not want a better armor. Rating: 1

Epic Elyd Edge: +6 Rapier (2d6 dmg, Cha Att Mod) Cha 7, Superior Devotion IV, Silver, Songblade, Anthem, Red Slot It can regen songs but theres another item easier to get that is gonna allow that. Silver means it can bypass dr but the cha attack mod means it probably not great for warchanters. It’s a pretty niche item for the right type of bard. Rating: 2.5

Epic Jidz-Tet’ka: Bracers, Armor Bonus 8, Exc Wis 1, Will Save 5, Tet-zik, The Enlightened Change, Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot The only two decent stance bonuses are for fire and earth. No one uses earth stance and that bonus is gonna be available on an outfit next mod with no earth stance requirement. Most fire stanced monks are gonna want epic claw bracers. This leaves extremely high healing amps as the niche build this is good for. A great item for them but not enough for a general monk. Rating: 3.5

Epic Midnight Greetings: +6 Kukri (2d4 dmg, Dmg Mod: Int), Deception, Finesse, Disintegration, Assassin’s Training, Red Slot This would be great for a max int/dex assassin build. Problem is that build is not really viable as there is just these weapons for them and nothing to break boss dr or exc. Best use for this is as a Wizard for a portal beater. These alternate att and dmg mod items need to add to the str mod (limit this to say +5 of your int mod to your dmg in addition to your str mod.) Rating: 1.5

Epic Winter’s Wrath: Wand, Lesser Cold Augmentation IX, Superior Glaciation VII, Improved Glaciation IX, Otilukes Freezing Sphere (8/day) Better than any of the other epic wands as it adds a d6 to polar ray dmg. But the wand abilities themselves are really poor and this is really just a loot dilutor item. Epic wands need to carry higher DC’s and use maximize to make them worth the time to equip and fire. Rating: 2 (only for the ability to increase polar ray dmg)

    Phairlan Carnival

Epic Antique Greataxe: +6 Greataxe (2d12 dmg), Force Burst, Metalline, Red Slot, Colorless Slot Almost equal to a Min II but easier to obtain. Any THF that doesn’t have a min II yet should consider this instead. Rating: 4

Epic Big Top: Helmet, UMD +3 (enhancement bonus), Otto’s Irresistible Dance (CL 15 3 charges 3/rest), Colorless Slot This thing is pretty good for helping non rog/bard splashes hit that magic 39 umd for no fail heals. The clickie is probably the best epic clickie out there. Rating: 4

Epic Brawn’s Spirits: Trinket, Intimidate +5 (enhancement bonus), Rage (5/day), -1 wis, -1 int, Green Slot The epic claw gloves kinda negates the only useful thing this had. Because of that this is really no more than a rage clickie. Rating: 2

Epic Brimstone Verge: Wand, Fireball (CL 9 16 charges 16/rest) ML: 3 If this stays ML: 3 it is a pretty powerful twink item for a TR. If it goes to the standard Epic value of ML 20 its garbage. I am assuming it’s meant to be ML 20. Rating: 1

Epic Full Plate of the Ringleader: +6 Full Plate Persuasion, DR 5/-, Radiance Guard, Blue Slot Hmm one of the best guards in game, +3 to umd negating the need to wear vile blas or cartouche or use a bunny hat, and some dr. Not the best armor but very useful for some builds and reasonably easy to obtain. Rating: 3

Epic Garos Malice: +6 shortsword (2d6 dmg), Flaming Burst, Sneak Attack +5, Red Slot This is a good easily obtained item for a freshly rolled lev 20 piercing weapon user that hasn’t been able to craft GS yet or get another form of sneak attack dmg. As such though it is really just a stop gap and nowhere near end game gear. Rating: 2.5

Epic Grim’s Bracelet: Necklace, Strength +6, Natural Armor 4, Green slot If you never plan to run amrath this is an ok item I guess but strength +6 is too common elsewhere and a wis yugo pot grants the same ac bonus. Anyone wanting to commit to epics should also be running amrath though and as such this is really just junk. A possible improvement to this is give it a +5 nat armor bonus and give it a +2 size bonus to str. Rating: 1

Epic Illusionist’s Garb: Robe, Int +7, Epic Will Save +3, Greater Illusion Focus, Prismatic Spray (5 charges 5/rest, CL 10), Blue Slot Revision: Increase to +7 int from +6 helps here. That alone makes it something a wiz might want to wear full time which then makes the will save somewaht better. Greater Illusion focus fairly weak (need better illusion spells) Clickie still weak. Possible fix, Enhanced Prismatic spells(grants 2 rolls automatically for both prismatic spells). Rating: 3

Epic Kronzek’s Cruelty: +6 Scimitar (2d6 dmg), Shocking Burst, Maiming, Keen, Red Slot Many elves were very disappointed once the epic version of this was revealed. A holy greater bane does much better dmg than this and can be looted randomly in lev 16 content. There is just no reason to even equip this thing over any other end game quality weapon. Possible Fix: Give it good dmg so that it can bypass dr and add shocking blast (lightning strike is another option but doing that would make this much stronger than a lit II which is probably bad for balance) Rating: 1

Epic Mask of Comedy: Helmet, Charisma +6, Greater Devotion VII, Healing Lore, Good Hope (3 charges 3/day), Yellow Slot This is a good clickie for groups without a bard and that’s about it. It at least needs Greater Healing Lore, and something else maybe Good hope guard or something else kinda unique. Rating: 2

Epic Mask of Tragedy: Helmet, Wisdom +6, Greater Potency VII, Void lore, Crushing Despair ( 5 charges 5/day CL 7), Yellow Slot I guess if you really needed a greater potency VII this might be ok but really it’s just entirely worthless to 99.9% of builds. Possible Fix: Up the potency to lev 9 and just make it reg potency, Give it crushing despair guard (chance to cast crushing despair on hit). Rating: 1

Epic Noxious Fang: +9 Returning Throwing Dagger (2d4 dmg), Poison (1d6 poison dmg), Epic Fortitude Save +3, Large Scorp Poison, Red Slot This has a spot on my wizard when kiting or running through stuff that has some nasty disintegrates. It could be much more than a +3 fort save bonus that prevents you from any meaningful attacking. Possible Fix: Pit fiend venom or similar on a vorpal strike. Rating: 2

Epic Phairlan Mirror Cloak: Cloak, Hide +5 (enhancement), Move Silently +5 (enhancement), SR 22, Blurry Colorless Slot Abbot cloak offers everything this does (except the worthless at lev 20 sr) and much more. The lack of any colored slot just adds insult to injury. Possible Fix: just up the hide and move silently to +20 bonuses. Remove SR and give this thing a percent chance to turn spells affected by SR into +30 temp hp or something else similar yet unique. Rating: 2

Epic Phairlan Spy Dagger: +6 dagger (2d4 dmg), Acid Burst, Deception, Dusk, Enfeebling, Violet Slot It would take a lot more than a bunch of random pretty bad abilities to make me want to equip a dagger as an offensive weapon on any character. Possible fix: Clean this up and focus it more. Give it a possible +2 enhancement to assassinate dc’s. If enfeebling use weakening too. That would make it fairly strong for a crippling strike assassin in non epic content. Rating: 1

Epic Ring of Elemental Essence: Ring, Sup Glaciation IV, Sup Combustion IV, Sup Magnetism IV, Archmagi, Yellow Slot Another in a really badly designed line of caster focused Epic items. There is nothing here that can’t be reproduced or even improved through much lower level items, additions to much better end game items or even pots. Possible fix: stacking 5-10% dmg to each of the elements. Rating: 1

Epic Roderic’s Wand: Wand, Summon Unknown Monster II (6 charges 6/rest) UMD: 50 A fun toy and nothing more. Unfortunately it clogs up the loot tables for some of the better items. Needs to have all the new creature options added. Possible Fix: Augment Summon Feat added. Rating: 1.5

Epic Shimmering Pendant: Necklace, Suggestion (CL 5 3 charges no recharge), Cha +6, Diplo 15, Perform 15, Yellow Slot This is poor item design at it’s best. Absolutely nothing here that is not readily available much earlier in the game. Throw that all on one of the most competitive item slots there is and no one should ever even put this on. Nothing unique or no possible slot consolidation. Possible Fix: give this a 10% increase in duration to mental effects. Rating: 1

Epic Utility Vest: +6 Leather Armor, Dex 6, Exc int +2, Disable 20, Open Lock 20, Greater Nimbleness, Blue Slot Revision: So they added +2 exc int and raised skill scores to 20. This makes it a decent gear setup for mechanics or possibly even 18 wiz/2rog splashes with -15% asf in the slot. Better but the fact is it's a slow to equip item with most of it's benefits being better on a swap item. Rating: 2

    The Red Fens

Going to do this one a little differently. For each set item I will give a rating of the item as a stand alone. Then after each of the items have been given an individual rating I will do an overall rating for the set as a whole.

Epic Boots of the Mire: Boots, Balance 15, Underwater Action On its own these in no way worthy of ever putting on. Rating: 1

Epic Ring of the Mire: Ring, Greater Spearblock, Epic Fort Save +3, Earthen Guard A pretty decent situational use swap item, Never gonna see much full time use due to the variety of good rings out there. Rating: 2.5

Greater Marshwalker Set: Ring and Boots of the Mire, 30% striding, +15 jump Many people would jump at boots that gave 30% striding jump balance and ua but unfortunately that requires wearing a ring that is just not competitive with tod sets. Possible use for a non melee healer build to get some good effects and not tie up too many slots with it. Rating: 2.5

Epic Bracers of the Claw: Bracers, Exc Con 2, Heavy Fort Even on its own this item would get some use by quite a few characters as any non ac melee build probably doesn’t have many good bracer options. Rating: 3

Epic Gloves of the Claw : Gloves, Healing Amp 30%, Str 6, Intimidate 5 (enhancement bonus) The only other place to get 30% amp is from bad GS weapons. Stacking intimidate is only available on one other item. This would be worn by many even if there was no set. Rating: 4

Greater Vulkoor’s Might Set: Gloves and Bracers of the Claw, +4 damage, +20% threat Two of the best stand alone items in this pack also get by far the best set bonus. It seems like this was designed around possible ac hate/intim tanks but the fail was that they made it far and away the best melee set for any build. The extra 20% threat does no good to hate tanks if every other higher dps character is also gonna be wearing them. Overpowered and in need of a nerf. Items like this ruin the creative gearset builds that epic was generating and forcing everyone back into the only one option ideas. Rating: 6

Epic Elder’s Focus: Necklace, Archmagi, Efficient Metamagic Extend II, Illusion Focus I like this item for post shrine buffing. After that it’s a swap to torc/embers/myriads of other full time wear items. Rating: 2.5

Epic Elder’s Cap: Helm, Int 6, Concentration 15, Greater Enchantment Focus All three of these effects are useful. Although int is usually covered elsewhere for wizards. Not the worst thing you could put on your head. Rating: 2.5

Greater Elder’s Knowledge: Epic Elder’s Cap and Focus, +6% chance to crit and .50 multiplier to Elemental spells The set bonus is nice when used in conjunction with Greater arcane lore essentially giving Major arcane lore to all elements. Problem is that’s better achieved with the archmage set and doesn’t take up one of the greater arcane lore slots (noxious embers). Rating: 2

Epic Necklace of Venom: Necklace, Superior False Life, Protection +5, Proof against Poison Any other slot and I’d probably give this item a lot more love. The necklace though is probably the most useful slot for both casters and melees. Rating: 1.5

Epic Ring of Venom: Ring, Sneak Attack 4, Dex 6 For any melee that prefers to use a non-tod necklace (torc) like a bard or self healing ranger/pally this is a great spot to fit in some sneak attack dmg. Same goes for any melee that chooses to use another belt. Rating: 3

Greater Vulkoor’s Cunning: Epic Ring and Necklace of Venom, -20% threat, Vulkorim poison on vorpal. This completely replaces a tod set. Not sure though if it does enough to replace a tod set. Stat dmg is weak for most of end-game. It could make the claw set more palatable for rogues by cancelling out the increased threat that set gives. That would probably be the best case for using this set although that may be better achieved through the epic gem of many facets and take up only 3 slots not 4 and maybe fit in another set like ravens to go along with it. Rating: 2.5

Epic Raven’s Sight: Goggles, Exc Wis +2, Epic Will Save +3, True Seeing A nice stand alone item for wis based monks. Makes it hard for them to fit in a sneak attack item though as many of the others can’t be used very effectively. Rating: 3.5

Epic Raven’s Talons: Gloves, Dex 6, Bluff 15 As a stand alone really bad. Not worth wearing without the full set in any capacity. Rating: 1

Greater Raven’s Eye: Epic Raven’s Talons and Sight, +4 to-hit, +3 stacking spot and search This in effect turns the gloves into a poor mans spectrals and keeping a decent goggle item for monks. Better to just wear the goggles and spectrals though. Also prevents the claw set. Much better to get from the Epic gem of many seeing and the goggles then to try and fit in the poor gloves. Rating: 1 (2.5 if using goggs and epic gem)

Epic Sacred Band: Ring, Wis +6, Sacred Unless you are in desperate need of more turns and can’t really think of anyone who is this is a ml 20 +6 wis ring on its own. I think you can find better rings to go here. Rating: 1

Epic Sacred Helm: Helm, Deathblock, Radiance Guard, Eternal Faith One of the best guards available in game and Deathblock make this a viable stand alone item. Even if only as a situational swap. Rating: 3.5

Greater Divine Blessing: Epic Sacred Ring and Helm, Greater Devotion VIII Most healers by the time they get to 20 have several amrath clickie healing belts. Also many have crafted Greater Devo VIII onto a ring or on DT armor. This set bonus has really no value at all. Add to that the fact that one of the items is comepletely useless and prevents a tod set bonus and this is probably the worst of the fens epic sets. Rating: 1

Epic Shaman’s Band: Ring, Spell Pen IX, Conjuration Focus Useable as a swap for casters when wailing frequently in non epic content or if they have no greater VIII Spell Pen. Rating: 2.5

Epic Shaman’s Beads: Necklace, Greater Evocation Focus, Efficient Metamagic- Maximize II, Cha 6 While in no means a replacement for something like the torc, this can be swapped in times of heavy nuking. For such a hard slot for casters making something that is at least situational useful this was well done and whoever designed it did a nice job. Rating: 3

Greater Shaman's Fury: Epic Shaman's Beads and Band, 40% dmg to 8th level and lower elemental spells Amrath clickies should cover all your needs here. Both the items are at best situationally useful and one of these uses (spell pen 9 on the ring) has no synergy with the set bonus. Really weak. Possible fix: 10% stacking elemental dmg or something beneficial. Rating:1

Epic Siren’s Belt: Belt, Armor Bonus 8, Prot 5, Disease Immunity An interesting item that provides +8 armor in a slot other than bracers. For an AC minded character this is a workable item Rating: 2.5

Epic Siren’s Charm: Necklace, Con 6, Greater Sonic Resistance I can think of about 8 amrath necklaces better than this as a stand alone. Rating: 1

Greater Siren’s Ward: Epic Siren’s Belt and Charm, +2 insight to saves and +4 insight to AC While this set provides some unique things in the game like Insight ac for monks without greensteel it prevents the use of any of the tod set bonus’s. A lot to commit for a build that is going to get hit in epic content anyways best for someone not running epic content but the problem is it requires running epic content to acquire. Rating: 3

    Non-set Items

Epic Cacophonic Verge: Wand,Greater Evocation Focus, Greater Shout (8 charges 8/rest CL: 14, DC: 25) A triple tr’d wizard that also spent lots of ap into improving wand dc’s could get this Dc up to low 30’s. That’s a lot of work and sacrifice of AP for a pretty moderate ability to stun mobs for a very short time. Possible Fix: Up the base DC as should be done on all wands and add a static effect, I’d love to see deafness implemented into the game if just for the ability to prevent spellcasters from using spells with a verbal component. Best Value for this item is the fact that it's a greater evocation focus one hander that alone saves it from a 1. Rating: 2

Epic Frozen Plate: +6 Plate Armor, Freezing Ice Guard, Greater Cold Resistance, Cold Absorption- 20%, Blue Slot A very situational armor to use in areas with high cold dmg. Maybe put on in areas with lots of water Elementals. There are much better Epic Plate Armors out there. Possible Fix: % chance to proc cold shield fire on hit. Up absorption to 30% Rating: 2

Epic Greatclub of the Scrag: +6 Greatclub (2d10 dmg), Anarchic Burst, Icy Burst, Greater Regeneration I see two possible times when a greatclub is useful. Attacking skellies and liches and attacking rust monsters. Skellies are immune to the icy and the rusties are immune to the anarchic. As such this Item is ever only half useful. Greater Regen is pretty rare to find but in all honesty it just doesn’t do enough unless you’ve got to afk for 10 minutes.Sad to see such a cool looking weapon not be useful. Possible Fix: It’s about time we saw an epic Stunning item and this would be a good option. X3 crit would give it some extra dps oomph it needs. Rating: 1.5

Epic Robe Of Dissonance: Robe, Greater Sonic Resistance, Soundproof, Spell Resonance, Sup Resonance VIII, Superior Impulse VIII, Blue Slot Revision: I like what they did with this. Some creative item design and use of new effects rather than rehashing of old ones. Gives a casting focused bard a good option for nuking, the force isn't as good unless we get higher than lev 6 force spells still saves on pots/clickie usage. Soundproof is a good effect that will be useful in areas with lots of soundbursts still disappointed it doesn't work against horoth stuns especially since that is a sound based effect. Rating: 3

Epic Shatterbow: +6 Bow (2d8 dmg), Screaming, Greater Construct Bane, Improved Destruction, Move Silently -10 Gives Ranged characters a good option against constructs and negates their need to occupy an inventory space with an improved destruction bow. Epic bane would have been cool here but as is it’s better than any other option. Rating: 3.5

Epic Souleater: +6 Quarterstaff (2d6 dmg enhanced crit range 19-20), Epic Trap the Soul, Bodyfeeder, Negative Energy Spike, Demonic Might, Vampirism, Red Slot Revision: Demonic might is cool as is vampirism especially when coupled with any decent amount of healing amp, expanded crit range is good, and a red slot is also. That all being said I am yet to rate this item as I need confirmation on two things. Epic TTS dc and whether or not it has the 30 hd cap that the release notes indicated. An increase in the first means this becomes pretty decent all around as long as the second is not true. TTS weapons are useful as it works on high hp mobs that can't be auto crit like epic ellies. These mobs are all above 30HD and as such the main ability of this item is moot. Rating: inconclusive

Epic Twisted Talisman: Necklace, Superior Nullification VIII, Blood Sacrifice (5 charges, 1/rest) This item is useful for the clickie effect only as most items of similar nature are (bauble, Ring of spell storing). An extra 250 sp seems nice but with the recharge being only 1/rest this is not a very handy regular use item. There seems to be an issue with devs not wanting to make OP caster items. (I can somewhat see here as casters can solo many things that melees can not). The lack of really good epic caster stuff is kinda baffling whereas melees get some sort of fully stacking dps upgrade almost every update. Rating: 3

    Chronosphere

Epic Boots of Corrosion: Boots, Sup Corrosion VI, Sup Nullification VI, Greater Acid Resistance, Disintegration Guard, Greater Might of the Abashai, Green Slot, Colorless Slot If you are looking for something to boost your spell damage there are better options. If you want a decent guard on your boots and a green and a colorless slot then these are truly epic. One of the few items that gets by on it’s slots alone. Best on someone who can caste haste, ex retreat or even longstrider. Rating: 4

Epic Charged Gauntlets: Gloves, Greater Shocking Blow, Str 6, Greater Lightning Resist, Greater Might of the Abashai, Yellow Slot A nice dps item on its own with the extra dmg on 20’s. Competes with claw set. STR 6 items seem really redundant on the better epic gear and tod sets. Rating: 4

Epic Envenomed Cloak: Cloak, Con 7, Resistance 5, Greater Poison Guard, Greater Might of the Abashai, Green Slot A strong stand alone item with 2 really good mods, Fitting a +5 resist item seems harder and harder with epic stuff. So this is generally netting you +1 to con and +1 to saves over most other build setups plus the ever elusive green slot. Rating: 4

Epic Helm of Frost: Helm, Cha +7, Greater Cold Resist, Polar Ray (CL 20, 3 charges, 3/rest), Greater Might of the Abashai, Yellow Slot Would have loved to see this as a green slot. As is though it still is a +7 cha item if you don't want that in a ring or cloak slot. However both of those +7 cha items offer other better benefits too than what this helm has. Clickie is not horrid damage as far as clickies go. Rating: Yellow Slot 3

Epic Scorched Bracers: Bracers, Armor +8, Greater Fire Resist, Firestorm (CL 17, 5 charges, 5/rest), Greater Might of the Abashai, Green Slot. Arguably the best of the epic +8 armor bracers. For me the Green Slot gives this the nudge over other ones as it’s universally good whereas the extra uncannies or monk stance benefits are beneficial to certain builds only. Rating: 4

Greater Might of the Abashai Set Bonus:
3 Set Bonus: (+3 profane Natural Armor Bonus, +3 profane STR Bonus, +3 caster level on evocation spells)
If you are a high ac build/str based melee or polar ray nuking caster and can fit three of these items which are all good on their own do it. If you happen to be all three of these, which admittedly not many are then you better find a way to fit in all 3. Rating: 4

5 Set Bonus+3 Profane Natural Armor Bonus, +3 Profane Str and Con, +3 caster level on evocation and conjuration spells) Sadly this gets worse here. An additional +3 con and +3 caster level to a pretty meaningless school. This requires just too much slot use and requires you using all the items several of which probably net you nothing. Rating: 1.5

Epic Diabolist’s Docent/Robe: Docent or Robe, Int 7, Epic Conjuration Focus, Summon Monster IX (3 charges 3.rest), Blue Slot, Colorless Slot A really well designed Epic item. Int 7 is rare and the conj focus is unique. Great for webs and TTS. Even the clickie is somewhat useful. Rating: 4.5

Epic Gem of Many Facet’s: Trinket, Counts as one of all the Epic Fens sets items, Yellow Slot Another really well designed item. This allows easier use of multiple fens sets, or allows you to fit in that set you wouldn’t have previously due to other slot consideration. Only hurt by it’s comepetition at the trinket slot. Best used in conjunction with marilith chain epic or otherwise. Rating: 4

Epic Goggles of Time Sensing: Goggles, Exc Wis 2, Spot 20, Search 20, Haste (CL: 15 5/Rest), Yellow Slot, Colorless Slot For a monk or cleric this is one more dc, for a rogue it may mean the ability to search out a trap. For everyone else it’s the best haste clickie around. This could keep an entire raid hasted for pretty much the entirety of all the raids out there. Two slots is a bonus too. Rating: 4

    Epic Hellfire Crossbow, Unknown
Epic Hellstroke Greataxe: +6 Greataxe (2d12 dmg), Cold Iron, Double Strike 6%, Incite 20%, Keen, Maiming, Red Slot
Better than antique or min II vs. Lailat, Sadly though still considerably worse than Epic SOS even though it can’t break DR but that’s more about the SOS issues than any with this axe. The insight would be ok in the hands of a lev 20 Hate tank pally but sadly the ESOS will also be better there again. Rating: 3

Epic Infested Armor: +6 Full Plate, Greater Disease Guard, SR 25, Heavy Fort, Demonic Shield, DR 5/good, Blue Slot This armor has a lot going for it. Demonic shield is essentially 6 stacking dr on average and dr/good is pretty much dr/-. Already having heavy fort and then a blue slot means this could potentially save an item slot. Sr is a little weak for endgame and the guard is pretty weak but overall I like this. Rating: 3.5

Epic Staff of Nat Gann: +6 Quarterstaff (2d6 dmg, enhanced crit 19-20, Att mod: dex, Dmg mod: dex), Dex 7, Dodge 4, Sneak Attack 5, Red Slot Fairly decent for an ac based acrobat or monk, doesn’t deal out great dps though. Edit: many people point out the att and dmg mod being dex makes this better. Unless you have an extreme difference in dex and str something most staff users don't this becomes really bad for dps. Even though dex is the dmg modifier it doesn't do 1.5x like a str mod staff does. Couple that with many of the other dmg effects you can have on a GS staff or even the Epic souleater and this falls far behind. Rating: 2

Epic Time Blade: +6 Longsword (2d8 dmg), 6% double strike, Improved Slowburst, Featherfalling, Freedom of Movement, Red Slot, Colorless Slot The double strike is somewhat ok but not enough to overcome this things dps difficiencies. Best possible use is for a pally for better chance at triple smites/sacrifices but even then still better off with a better weapon. That leaves this as little more than a FF and fom swap item Rating: 2

    Mabar Event

Epic Robe/Docent of Shadow: Superior Nullification IX, Superior Void Lore, Superior False Life, Greater Necro Focus, Boon of Undeath, Nightshield (CL:14, 5 charges, 5/rest) For a pale master this thing is great. It gives better heals, better free nukes, more hp, fulltime greater necro focus, An average dr of 8, and frees up a level one spell slot. The only thing keeping this froma 5 is it is so focused just towards one prestige class and really not that useful for any other.. Rating: 4

Epic Cloak of Night: Cloak, Invisibiliity Guard, Ghostly, Deathblock, Dodge 2, Nightmare Guard, DR5/good A lot of useful effects on this and some unique things. DR5/good might as well be dr 5/- as pretty much any good aligned mobs don't do any melee damage of note. Dodge 2 on something other than bracers is good for ac characters wearing armor bracers. Ghostly grants some nice benefits and is not commonly available. The invis guard is decent but i think oftne overated. Nightmare Guard on a lev 20 item is insignificant. It's a pretty good item but hard to fit into exisiting build sets and there are better cloaks out there in general. Rating:3.5

Epic Wraps of Endless Night: +6 Handwraps, Greater Undead Bane, Brilliance, Disruption, Radiant Blast The benefits against undead are obvious theres nothing better to use. However these wraps are also better against a lot of other mobs too than what many monks may have. A shintao with a holy burst ring will have a hard time surpassing these for boss beaters. Only top of the line GCB wraps outdo these for dmg on portals. There are many other situations where only extremely rare top of the line wraps will be better. For all intensive purposes if you don't need stunning wraps or something to break dr these will most likely be your best option. Rating: 5

    Crystal Cove Event

Epic Ratkiller (Tier 3) - +6 Maul (2d10+6, 20/x3): Stunning +10, Unbalancing, Staggering Blow, Earthgrab, Greater Animal Bane, Red Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20 I like this a lot. THF kinda fell behind in the stunning department as they didn't have a the benefit of a second weapon like twf'ers do. My twf pick user often has a earthgrab greensteel in the mainhand and +2 stunner in offhand. This allows thf'ers to compete by having both on the same weapon. Greater animal bane is a rare plus but sometimes beneficial and the other effects are pretty blah. Red slot is nice for dr bypassing. Rating: 4

Epic Brigand's Cutlass (Tier 3) - +6 Scimitar (lawfull) (2d6+6, 18-20/x2): Anarchic Burst, Absolute Chaos, Vorpal, Incite +20%, Intimidate +15 Red Augment Slot, No UMD needed, BtA, ML:20 I was shocked to see something so similar to chaosblade which is one of the hardest items in game to acquire. It still falls just a little short of chaosblade dps wise but it doesn't require a feat or steep umd requirements. Rating: 4

Epic Cutthroat's Smallblade (Tier 3) - +6 Shortsword (2d6+6, 18-20/x2): Slicing +1d4, Bleed +1d8, Doublestrike 6%, Corrosive Salt, Hide +15, Move Silently +15, Red Augment Slot, BtA, ML: 20 A really nice offhand for piercing specced rogues. Coupled with a lightning strike on a full 20 rog this should do more damage than just 2 lightning strikes and not impose a to-hit penalty. Sadly outside of rogues dps wise it's a little short. Rating: 3

Epic Ornamented Dagger (Tier 3) - +5 Dagger (2d4+5, 19-20/x2): Superior Potency VII, Arcane Lore, Efficient Metamagic: Maximize II, Lesser Maximize, Concentration +15, Yellow Augment Slot, BtA, ML: 20 Superior potency while being unique is just not that useful with the clickies available. Arcane lore is blah. Eff max is good but avail elsewhere. Lesser maximize when exclusive is pretty blah but without that exclusivity it's gamebreaking. Oddly other than the clickie i find the lev 16 tier 3 better as it has three major lores on it and sup pot 6. Rating:2.5 (4 if ya wanna glut your inventory with 10+ of these for clickies).

Epic Swashbuckler (Tier 3) - +6 Light shield: AC:8, DR:8, Superior Parrying, Doublestrike 6%, Guardbreaking, Riposte, Exceptional Dexterity +2, Blue Augment Slot, BtA, ML: 20 For a shield user this thing is really nice. It provides the same ac as a tower shiled if slotted +7. It gives +2 exc dex usually not avail elsewhere. It allows use of epic weapons and still not lose +4 insight and it gives +4 saves stacking. Doublestrike is nice too increasing dps when shield hate tanking. The riposte is mostly worthless and guardbreaking after the change is pretty weak also (granted before the change it was too good.) Not that many people will want one but those that do it is an extremely nice option. Hinted future changes to sword and board may increase this. Rating: 2.5

Epic Cavalry Plate (Tier 3) - +6 Fullplate: +16 AC, Mithral, Demonic Shield, Superior False Life, DR 5/Chaotic, Resistance +5, Blue Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20 While this armor doesn't provide the dps increase a marilith chain or red dragonscale does I really do like it. First it allows more ac than any other epic full plate due to mithral. Demonic shield is an extremely useful benefit essentially giving 6 stacking dr. Having sup false life resistance and some dr tacked on makes it a nice set of armor. Rating: 4

Epic Duelist's Leathers (Tier 3) - +6 Leather Armor: +8 AC, +12 Max Dex, Feat: Mobility, Epic Nimbleness, Balance +15, Attack Bonus +2, +4 AC Dodge bonus, Blue Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20 The large max dex bonus and +4 dodge make these really good for any evasive non monk splash ac build. +2 attack bonus is nice too. Mobility is pretty much a waste though. Like the shield very nice for the few builds that use it but limited in usefulness hurts it's rating. Rating: 2.5

Epic Brawling Gloves (Tier 3) - Gloves: Strength +7, Spike Studded, Glass Jaw Strike, Sneak Attack bonus +4, Yellow Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20, A lot of plusses here. It gets outclassed by some of the other epic gloves but also allows some nice slot consolidation. It's a nice filler until you get epic charged or claw though. Also nice for getting a sneak attack item in if ya have other needs for goggles or cloak slots. Rating: 3.5

Epic Ring of the Buccaneer (Tier 3) - Ringexterity +7, Swim +15, Underwater Action, Good Luck +2, Green Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20 Good luck and a green slot are really nice here and +7 dex is pretty rare but this thing has strong competition from tod rings and some of the other epic rings. It has some usefulness though for specific builds and having essentially two blue slots for anyone who woulda taken luck anyways. Sad that the +5 protection was removed it woulda made a nice setup for some ac builds. Rating: 2.5

Epic Treasure Hunter's Spyglass (Tier 3) - Trinket: Spot +20, Search +20, Use Magic Device +3 (enhancement bonus), True Seeing, Exceptional Intelligence +2, Green Augment Slot, BtA, ML:20, Trinket slots are so hard to compete with. That was relieved a bit though with the pirate hats. This is a great umd item slotted with luck. True seeing is nice and the +20 skills are useful to some. Wizards without litany would like this too because of the +2 int freeing up a tod ring for other crafting. Rating: 3

Thanks for the update. Now I will have to revisit to see how many of my original choices for my toons needs revamping. ;-)

Default Shard of vollun- radiance guard effect

The Epic shard of vollun's updated version has a secret effect which is not listed- *radiance guard*.

It can be seen turning on in the combat window when you equip the item.

I swap to it on my bard on occasion, as radiance guard goes off quite ALOT.

It also has a colorless and yellow slot!!

Fun for sorc20 too (when you're not dreamspitting).

Your own BE and dispel would be capped anyhow, although it might make your buffs resist enemy dispels better. Might be interesting to use with Mass Spell Resistance for +2 SR.

Better than greensteel if you're missing AC (Malicia?)

Deception is a valuable effect for pure rogues in the uncommon situation of having aggro from a monster that's immune to blindness, but you'd do better with +5 Holy Frost Burst Rapier of Deception. An interesting possibility would be for the devs to create Greater Deception (with a higher proc rate than the regular one).

It'd be interesting to see if the conjuration level boosts Mass Heal. (Maybe that can be tested with the lowbie version)

Yeah just a heads up some of my ratings may have changed quite a bit. When I was retyping this I purposefully did not look at my previous ratings as I didn't want my previous bias towards some items to effect their raitng currently. Many items have either changed in value due to other items introduced or game mechanics changed (lower epic saves etc.). When i did the first review epic content was relatively new and a lot has changed from then til now.

True on the Break and Mass Dispel, would still work on disjunction though. Correct in that it's good to resist dispells. Good point on the SR. I haven't checked many of the spell lists to exactly see what is affected so theres probably more useful checks.

Better than greensteel if you're missing AC (Malicia?)

True Ac values can bring this above a Min II but pretty much any boss that needs good and a metal to break has negligible ac values. Malicia is broken with just good and I have't done lit II comparisons but I think GS wins out here also.

+5 Holy Burst Frost Burst Pure Good beats it too...

True theres many things that would beat it that's kinda the point. Decent random weapons can outdo this making it a really poor item.

The proc rate of Deception is just not high enough for any item that carries it to make a difference versus a higher dps weapon. With the possible exception of epic mirage.

Mass heal caps at caster level 15 but it would help cure crit mass the the likes and as such has some value but i still think nowhere near enough to commit that kind of slot space for it.

    Silver on that? Still bad.

Does it have silver? I was unaware of that. If it does then that would change my outlook some however that really just makes it a boss beater and a min II with insight still does more dmg against fortified mobs.

Rating 1

I think you underrate Superior Devotion 7. While they are active Amrath belts outclass it, but Amrath belts aren't active just after you have died and been raised, which is usually the times you need to put out the absolute maximum amount of healing quickly.

I highly recommend this item to any cleric or FvS that doesn't melee at all.

In addition, the Epic Hellstroke Greataxe augmented with +7 is the highest DPS two-hander in the game against held targets once a certain amount of +damage is reached, due to its effective 3.18x crit multiplier. Although eSoS is clearly the better all-around weapon, eHSG is quite easy to obtain and certainly has its niche.

I dont play with any clerics or favored souls that dont melee even when healing raids in many cases. I get your point though. I still find sup devotion VII weak and many healers especially healbots already have greater 8 options that are easier to get.

As far as the hellstroke I ran the numbers on my kensai with 60 buffed str, 43 additional non str base dmg and 12 seeker and the Esos still comes out ahead in auto crit situations non twitch with glancing blows factored in by 2 points of dmg per swing.
Twitching its a dead push with .035 dmg per swing difference. There may be a few builds that can push the greataxe slightly ahead but in all honesty not by enough to generate enough of a dps advantage to counter any swings against non crit mobs.

*Edit: The numbers i crunched were for the +6 hellstroke greataxe not a +7 like sirgog posted. The +7 does come out ahead for my build which is pretty significantly buffed and geared out but only like a point of dmg per swing ahead non twitch and 2.5 points with twitch.

On Sup Dev 7 - Sup Dev 7 is better than Greater Dev 8; especially on the many Favored Souls that can't take Mass Cure Critical due to taking Mass DW, Summon Monster 8 and Holy Aura (one of the best buffs and the two best CC spells on the FvS list). Like I say, the item has its niche. I know several people who have actively farmed for this item; I actively farmed for the Epic Chainmail Coif as well after fluking the shard. IMO the Letter Opener is worth a 3 on your scale.

The eHSG is much easier to get than the eSoS which is its main niche IMO - put the eSoS on your main, and on alts, eHSG is a great alternative. It *might* also be the highest threat weapon available in some cases. Also, don't forget that it gets dwarf racials and eSoS doesn't, for those melees that are willing to sacrifice a smidgen of DPS for all the survivability bonuses of Dwarven Spell Defense and Racial Toughness 4.

Plus, eHSG has the advantage of all of the components being bound to account. For these reasons I think it deserves a 3.5; maybe even a 4.

Why does the wikiddo description list the wisdom as +1 Exceptional, yet the screen shot there shows wisdom +6?? I would image that the the screen shot is correct, but which is??

When the item originally came out it was +6 wis. Many monks complained that they already had +6 wis elsewhere (namely tod ring). It was subsequently changed to +1 exc. Would be kinda nice if all the melees complained about the glut of +6 str items and that they have that elsewhere. And sorcs for the +6 cha etc.

Thats kinda lame, i was hoping it was the the +6 so could consolidate some slots in this way and have my +8 bracers at the same time, gonna have to rethink things now. I know i could get that on gs if i wanted but it seems like i wouldnt even have a spot for that. I'll already get the +1 exc wis from my kilau's band (when i do get it!). Thanks for the info.

sorcerers don't really have a glut of items, period, in my experience.

actually, allow me to correct that: as a sorcerer, there is a glut of +6 int and +7 int items that i want. while it is slightly convenient to be able to use runes in the subterraine, i can't say that's got me particularly excited.

it would be nice if the devs would remember that sorcerers have the same spell list as wizards, some time. as a sorcerer, i would also like to have all my DCs boosted (not just evocation... shocking, i know) too. as a sorcerer, i would like to have +3 to my web DCs too. (please, do not point to the robe of the phoenix. i have 3 level 9 spell slots, and none of them are filled with meteor swarm because hold monster mass, energy drain, and wail of the banshee are all far more useful to me)

anyways, you wanna hear something ironic? midnight's greetings and staff of nat gann... those useless pieces of junk... you know who they're great for? go on, take a guess. i bet you'll never figure it out.

    no?

ok... here goes.... repeater crossbow mechanic rogues. yup. you heard me. why, you ask? well, to be reasonably effective with a repeater, you need about 6 feats. out of 7. (the 7th feat should be spent on toughness, unless you have a particular attachment to getting killed a lot).

so... consider the repeater mechanic. high dex. high int. low strength.

midnight's greetings and the staff of nat gann are about the best things to happen to the repeater who feels the need to occasionally melee. about the only way it could be better is if they started granting the TWF or THF feats, as appropriate, with the item :P

but yeah... staff of nat gann is your DR X/bludgeoning breaker (eg: liches, skeletons, clay golems). midnight's greetings is for breaking DR X/slashing (and, now you've mentioned it, portal beating wouldn't be so bad with it either - obviously, a scroll of master's touch will be getting involved here for regular melee stuff).

the irony, of course, is that the staff of nat gann is *supposedly* an acrobat weapon (apparently, someone doesn't consider it to be a crippling flaw to be forced into using only one weapon with no other options), and midnight's greetings is *supposedly* for assassins (who are better off strength-based, and using the khopesh they spent a feat slot learning how to use). but the only people who likely have the stats to want these items are mechanics using repeaters. go figure.

but as a weapon for a mechanic? they're great. particularly since the stuff you'd use them for just happen to be immune to sneak attack, making it that much more important to break DR.

mind you, that's a pretty danged small niche, so i wouldn't exactly say you need to bump up their value on your scale. actually, to be honest, i'm surprised either of them are higher value than 1. "1. Not a good item for really anything other than the most extreme of niche builds etc." sounds a lot more accurate than "2. Usually a situationally useful item for quite a few builds or a full time use item for a small niche. "

which "quite a few builds" or "full time use ... for a small niche" are these items qualifying for that rates them as being above 1? personally, i'd describe "people with really high dex and int but low strength" and "people with high strength, low dex, and no weapon finesse feat" to be "the most extreme of niche builds".

Just like Greensteel TTS weapons it just doesn’t proc and the mob fail the save enough to be worth while. If you’re an acrobat or some other staff wielding build you are better off in epics with a dreamspitter/rahl’s might/earthgrab qstaff. If you really want a TTS qstaff make a GS one. I know it was said this will be improved but have heard conflicting rumors of what improvements will be made. One involves “raising” the hd cap to 30 on it. That is a nerf as right now there is no hd cap on any TTS weapons. I’ll hold off any ratings of improvements until there is a fixed version. Possible Fix: Raising TTS save dc by about 4-5 Rating: 2

According to the latest release notes, Souleater is gaining "a Red Augment Slot, Vampirism, a +2 profane bonus to Strength, and a higher hit dice limit on its Trap the Soul effect." Along with a 19-20 crit range.

As I understand from the initial dev post regarding updating Souleater, unlike a Vac II weapon which does not have a HD limit (or has a very large one) on its effect, Souleater casts the actual Trap the Soul spell, complete with 30 HD limit. I believe it is being changed to the GS version without HD limit rather than the reverse which you have listed.

Now does all that make it a better staff? Absolutely. It has unique bonuses and effects and ends up being pretty fun. Does it make it better than a Dreamspitter against held trash? Certainly not, but against unheld mobs? Well...maybe not for the TTS effect, but 20% crit rate that grants 15 HP and +2 HP per swing should at least bump it to a 3.

As an unrelated side note: You did not list that Epic Nat Gann's uses Dex for Hit and Damage or that it has a 19-20 Crit Profile. I'm assuming this was an oversight since other items that use alternate stats for hit/dam or have non-base crit profiles had them listed.

Yeah I saw the release notes. I generally don't update items until they go live. Would love to know what the dc's are going to on the wands cause just saying increased the dc's really means nothing unless they are increased enough.

regarding TTS on the current version of the staff it has no hd limit or at least it isnt 30 like the spell. I read the dev post when it was posted but devs have been known to post incorrect info.

Epic elementals with well over 30 hd are dying to it now. I have one and thats what I generally use it on as they tend to have low will saves and dont get held/stoned, etc.

The updates to the staff are nice and it will be getting a higher value. However if they do add a HD limit to it it probably won't be enough to kill epic ellies which have the highest HD in the game in general. As such this item just lost all it's value to me for what I use it for now.

Personally I think you are under-rating the epic Hellstroke axe and Staff of Nat Gann. The epic staff is getting base damage type silver, so you can put the good+cold iron gem from epic Devil Assault to have it bypass both demon and devil DR, including raid bosses. This will be the best weapon out there for dex-based acrobats by a long haul as both its hit and damage are dex-based.

Similarly, you can put the silver+cold iron gem from epic DA into the Hellstroke axe to have all of that tasty 2d12 goodness bypass both demon and devil DR.

    Just my 2cp.

Edit: BTW love this thread, thanks!

One thing about Epic Chimira's Fang.

In the hands of a pure paladin, it basically becomes a dr beating lighting II bastard sword with a very high base damage rating. A paladin can add silver to it and use his capstone to by pass the dr of most of the bosses. I think it should be 2.5 for most toons. 4-5 potentially for a capped pure paladin.

    Some decent point here trillea.

My concerns with the hellstroke greataxe are even with it's DR bypassing abilities, you are better off using ESOS on all but Elite devils bosses. ESOS just typically ruins the value of most of the could be good epic two handed weapons. The ability to obtain the axe is possibly even harder than the ability to obtain a ESOS due to the rarity of scrolls in Chronoscope. The Augments from DA would improve this some but I feel they are just not enough of them to have the effect on reliably. Id rather slot it as a +7 and be better against auto crit or go with good and break queen or epic rever/render/flenser dr. This weapon could be really good if we ever get a high end mobs that require dr evil and cold iron.

For the staff unless the dex is really that much higher than strength which many acrobats are actually pretty close to even on this you are better served with a Min II with insight 4 on it. You get the same AC boost (more with icy's on) and more dmg and bypass demon dr as well as devils. A previous poster made a really good point in that this is probably much better on a mechanic than an acrobat which is pretty ironic to me.
