How are you defining very long quest?? If your going off the decription for the quest "The Bloody Crypt", a level 6 quest run by 2 level 7 characters should have (close to) 100% chance of renown for the end reward. Neither of us got offered any.

Just very unlucky? Or something odd?

Another sugestion is the 1st time bonuses no matter what level should offer a decent chance to give some type renown. It would help encouraging the players of any level to see quests (win!).

A little more info for you: the length of the quest affects your chances for renown in the end reward. Unless you're 5 levels over the quest, you should have a minimum of 50% chance to see renown and it goes up from there to 100% for a very long quest.

If I'm not mistaken, the Inspired quests are short, meaning you should only see renown half the time.
If this is the case, then there is definitely an issue.

Ran 4 GH quests yesterday on Normal/Hard with guild. Highest level player (me) was lv16 (so 3 levels over at worst) Crucible, PoP, Cry for Help and the Aurum quest, and had 0 renown end rewards, which was similar to what my guildies were stating. I think perhaps one or two dropped out of approximately 20 available end rewards.

Afterwards, we also ran a Shroud on Hard. I was on a lv20, so again, 3 levels over. I, again, did not pull a renown end reward, though I did not wait to ask the rest of the run, since I was tired and logged immediately after.

So, based on my results, 5 quests, no end rewards, and based upon my info from our GH runs, approx. 2 end rewards out of 20 possible. With this small sample size, it seems like the end reward drop rate for renown is closer to 0-10% than to 50%. Hopefully this info helps in whatever investigations you are doing, Madfloyd.

Wouldn't it be better to have a static chance to pull renown (say 50%) then weight the chance of pulling higher renown based on level of quest and character level.

That way you wouldn't have people getting annoyed they're pulling no renown whatsoever and you'd still benefit from running higher level and at level quests.

EDIT: Or do the above for quests within 5 levels of your character but reduce the chance for anything lower than at.

I also think it's silly to just go off quest level. If I'm understanding things correctly Abbot on Elite is equivalent of Weapons Shipment on Normal under the current system.

Gee let’s make those quests that should give you renown no matter what level you run them at now give you nothing for renown, this is wrong. Certain quests should give renown no matter what level you do them at. Also be default the formula should provide more chance for harder difficulties like +2 Hard +5 Elite. If I get no xp from a quest I can kind of go along with it generally but sometimes the time on the quests are completely out of relation with how long it actually takes or how hard the quest is in relation. Protecting Coyal in Threnal 3 I don’t care if you are 20th level doing it on normal you should have a chance at renown because unless you know what you are doing your level won’t make a whole lot of difference. Protecting him even after knocking him out 20 times in 15 minutes is a heroic accomplishment.
You know that derives a great idea?

Why not award renown for completing a quest, like xp and favor? They could make an static number for the level of the quest and decresing that number in relation with your level, like the xp. Making more renown for ending raids will be a good thing, like with difficult quests... Renown from chests and end rewards could stay as a tip to the actual real renown.

That could encourage game, play, finishing a quest not staying only for mobs to re-spawn and all of that and even if the system is like right now don't screw players in high level toons playing what they only can play.

Did the following yesterday as a Favored Soul (level 4 and 5, as I leveled partway through).

    Irestone Inlet
    The Waterworks Series
    Halls of Shan-to-Kor Series
    Tangleroot Series
    Sharn Syndicate's 5 quests
    Rest for the Restless
    Depths of Despair
    Depths of Darkness
    Depths of Doom
    Depths of Discord
    Freshen the Air
    Proof is in the Poison
    Archer's Point
    The Swiped Signet
    Gladewatch Outpost Defense

Between the 21 end rewards I got I saw a renown token on 3 of those lists. A couple of those are Very Long (Proof is in the Poison, Tangleroot series, Shan-to-Kor series, Waterwork series) and none of those lists had a renown token.

So that means, going by Zaodan's chart, there's 31 quests a lvl 20 can get an end reward of renown. 5 of those should be raids (Abbot, Shroud, Hound, VoD, ToD) and as such are on timer, and SoS requires flagging.

That's 25 farmable quests with a chance at renown end rewards. IQ makes up 5 of those, and 4 of the Dreaming Dark quests are most likely considered short as well. Might as well toss Weapons Shipment and Wrath on there as well.

We're now down to 14 quests with a chance above 50%. Heck Prey's pretty short, and nobody in their right mind farms Kobold, so let's make it 12. Could even say monastery is short so let's just toss out the entirety of Reaver's Refuge.

11 quests with a chance above 50% for renown in end reward list for capped characters.

Now let's look at what we've got as far as chests go. To make things simpler, let's say quests average 5 chests per quest, or an average of 1 renown token per quest at level.

We've got all the epics (I'll give you that even though I despise epics). VoN1-6, 5 for DQ, Sentinels and the circus each have 4. That's 19 quests averaging 1 renown token per quest. Unless you magically changed end rewards to reflect quest difficulty, these get jack squat from end rewards. In other words they're still **** for farming renown.

Got another 2 quests that are 20, ToD has a timer but we still got Dreaming Dark.

    ...

I'd do the rest of the math but it just goes downhill from there.

Your information is greatly appreciated. My experience last night. Full guild group all 16ths running gianthold walk ups on hard (so 14th level quests). Received a few drops in the 6-7 chests we opened, but the whole group got 0 (not one) end reward option for two quests that was 0 out of 12. Did not feel "right".

On the bright side, we are a small guild and the small guild bonus was working nicely. Thank you.

Welcome to the grind....and the railroad.

"Everyone run epic all day long to get renown for your +1 stat buffs"

Airships are cute. Making the grind to get a tiny bonus super heavy, like every other super heavy grind is actually a good thing.

"hey its such a grind, maybe I just wont care about the guild level and ignore it all".

    Works.

I didn't really care before it came out but the wife wanted an airship so she could be an airship pirate........

Maybe it'd just be easier to paint our apartment to look like an airship, wonder how much round windows would cost.

Meh, guess I'm going to have to break the knowledge to the wife that my 3.5 person guild (the half person plays another guild as well) will probably not have an airship before Christmas, not unless I win the powerball and can find all people of the exact same level and run exact level quests with.

I understand the reduction, thought it a bit ludicrous that you could get ~500 renown from running kobold's new ringleader as a level 11/12 character but when the most renown we get is about 75 points a night after getting 4-500 a night for a couple hours play before the patch.....

Meh, glad I wasn't really all that excited about the airships. At least my guild is high enough we can use the reagent vendors.
I don't disagree with your first two paragraphs. I'm also in a small guild. The good news is that we can make changes. All this feedback helps.

    Thx.

My problem with this is that quest length seems to be a measure of distance rather than time. Quest like the Devils Assault is not a short quest.. at all. East Threanal 2, 15 minutes is not short, considering how much 'fun' it is. There are quest marked 'very long' that take 1/4 the time to complete versus quest that are deemed 'short'.

My humble opinion on this factor.

On Epic you have a 7% additional chance for drops from chests and monsters compared to Normal.
