1. Bastard swords are generally a lot cheaper to come by, e.g. on the AH.
2. For vorpal effect (and disruptors), Bastard sword works as well as any other slashing weapon.
For a new player, low on funny money, it can be an option to use bastard swords instead.
If using a TWF toon, and don't want to spend the extra feat, put a seeker weapon in the off-hand and a vorpal BS in the main hand... works great for confirming the crit to make the vorpal effect take place. If you should happen to have a bloodstone, it's nice to dual wield two vorpal Bastard swords (or sell the bloodstone and get some nice Kopeshes ).

Light hammers - because they are 3x crits just like larger hammers and are throwable....in my head they do anyway.
Why is anyone even asking this question? The numbers are really obvious. And show how whoever made the decision at Turbine 4 years ago to make the khopesh the only weapon you should ever take on a str build ruined every other weapon in the game as a result.
Like said, bastard swords can be a good choice when you have no money, and people are giving them away "Take my vorpal ...please". The reason they are giving them away is because they are not as good. The end.
For best average dps vs 0% fort red/purple named.. Khopesh.
But other weapons aren't junk, they have their place.
Best high fort DPS: Dwarven Axe
Best 100% crit DPS: Heavy Pick (Dwarven Axe is also ahead of Khopesh here)
Best versus very high AC target: Dwarven Axe (on dwarf characater with +2 to hit enhance)
Khopesh hands down...
Interestingly enough, approx 25-50% of the "good" effects weapons I pull are Bastard swords... Thought about making a BS user, but just couldn't do it.

Keep in mind that, while a Khopesh does pretty much outdamage a Bastard Sword in every cirmustance (I think BS is better vs 100% Fort). A Bastard sword can easily do enough damage to contribute, and yes (if you're interested) you can lead the kill count while swinging them.
Khopesh is the better weapon, but if you happen to like the look of a BS more, they're good enough.
I've never kicked anyone out, nor been kicked out of a group for not using Khopeshs.
Is a fact tha kopesh have a lot of chance to throw a crit but his base damage is 1d8 like a longsword but hs crit chance is 15% like shortsword and like someone say for vorpal effects is very usful but not all your targets will fall because your vorpal.
the bastards have a base damage os a 1d10 and 10% of crit chance not much diferent betwen both.
finally for price, damage and variety of effects i prefer the bastards swords

At least as long as you dont have a racial weapon. For example would it be highly stupid to not take the Dwarvenaxe on a Dwarf.
Otherwise the Kopesh is completely broken since it adds way more critdamage then any other weapon.
Therefore in a perfect example where you hit on every number except a 1 and you hit 20 times and roll each number:
With a Longsword or Masterword you have a Crit of 19-20/x2
Over 20 hits 19times damage, but since the last two (the 19 and 20) are crits wich deals double damage over 20 hits we have 21 times the default damage.
A Greataxe or Dwarven Axe has a Crit of x3
Over 20 hits 19 times damage and once a crit for triple damage. Therefore in total 21 times the damage.
Kopesh has a Crit of 19-20/x3
Over 20 Hits 19 times the damage, and twice a crit for triple damage. Therefore in total 23 times the default damage.
Normaly the longsword is the basic weapon with a D8 (average 4.5 damage) and two times extra damage with crits. Through being two handed the weapon deals around 2 points more damage. Exotic Weapons do one more Base damage OR one time more default damage over 20 attacks. Or the weapon is not exotic and changes one point base damage for one time more default damage (Picks for example)
All weapons ingame are build with this rule in mind.
Except the kopesh. I dont know if drugs or alcohol were involved during invention of this weapons stats.

I'm going to go against the grain here. Khopesh is a better weapon in the early and middle levels of the game. But once you get to Green Steel the difference is pretty negligible and might even favor the Bastard Sword. Here's my math on it: A normal Khopesh does 1d8x3. A Green Steel Khopesh does 1d10x3. So assuming average damage done with a GS Khopesh,, 5.5, and assume a +5 Str enhancement, your doing 10.5 points of damage with your primary hand. Multiply that by three when you crit and your doing 31.5 damage. Now let's look at the Bastard Sword. A normal Bastard Sword does 1d10x2. But a Green Steel does 2d8x2. So with your average hit with a Bastard Sword, 9, and adding 5 points for Str, your doing 14 points of damage on a non-crit and 28 points on a crit. So while your losing a few points when you crit with a Bastard Sword, your gaining damage when you don't crit. So while the normal Khopesh is better than a normal Bastard Sword, once you get to Green Steel they are pretty much equal. And Bastard Swords have the advantage of being cheap and easy to come by. Because of that, I have to say that I prefer GS Bastard Swords over GS Khopeshs.
