    Default Heart of wood +x

What exactly do they do? What's the difference between a +5 and a +20 for example?

    they are very similar.

a heart of wood lets you take your character and rebuild it.

you go back each level and select new feats, new attributes new every thing. the only things that are locked in are alignment, race, sex and mostly levels.

ie you have to take the same class at the same level.

that is where the + comes in.

it lets you switch that many levels to another class.

so to demonstrate - lets say you had a level 15rogue 5 arti.

with a heart of wood, you could rebuild him, but you would be stuck with the same class split

with a +1 you could go either 14 rog 6 arti, 16 4 or add 1 level of another class.

if you used a +5 heart you could go pure and get rid of the arti levels entirely

i thiink im making sense, but if im not clear, look at www.ddo.wiki.com

In short: the plus value tells you how many levels you can change to a different class during a lesser reincarnation. A +5 means you can change 5 class levels, a +20 means you can change 20 class levels.

Cannot over-emphasize the 3-class limit applying to the entire process. That seems to hang up a lot of new folks trying to LR with +'s.

The +20 Heart is a gift to completionists, as it allows a player to run their favorite class(es) up to Level 20 (or whatever), then change to their least favorite class dominant, then TR for that past-life checkmark.

Yeah, in short, you start rebuilding at Level 1 BUT with all higher classes still intact until you get to them to change them.

    From the Wiki...

    • At no point during the reincarnation process you can have more than 3 classes total combined. But if you eliminate your third class before you finish the process, that's when you can start swapping over to your new third class. Otherwise it will require a second (or more) +n Lesser Reincarnation.(http://ddowiki.com/page/Lesser_Reinc...on#Description)

So, if you went Paladin for 18 Levels, then Ranger for 19th and Fighter for Lvl 20*, you could not change Paladin to anything but Fighter or Ranger, or you'd have 4 classes (X + Paladin + Ranger + Fighter). And remember, you start from Level 1 and work up.

(* "Why?" is irrelevant - it's only an example.)

The solution (here) would be to use a +1 Heart and change Fighter or Ranger to Paladin (so the character only has "2 Levels"), THEN use a more powerful Heart for a 2nd Reincarnation and grab your "new 3rd" class as you please. Once Paladin is all gone, you could then also change the last to a new 3rd class. (One reason why the current Sale (ending today iirc?) includes a lesser + Heart - that little hiccup is covered nicely.)

And the addy to the Wiki is DDOWIKI.COM (not ddo"DOT"wiki...)

Burning an LR +20 just to do an HTR? HA! Amateurs. I still remember the days of people who leveled wiz or sorc 12 / <TR class> 8; then LR +3 into wiz or sorc 9 / <TR class> 11.

Perhaps, but if you really dislike a class, you don't ever need to go near it.
