    Default New Player

I played DDO for a bit when it first came out and Just came back to the game. I'm playing a pure healing cleric (currently Level 4 about to hit 5)and while I've been playing healers in mmos forever I'd love to play with someone who wants a healer to follow them around that can teach me the more intricate details of the game. Here is my info:

    Forum Name: Boog
    Server: Sarlona
    In Game: Asive
Time: I play after work at various times between 4pm-Midnight est and pretty much anytime on the weekends.
Classes: Playing a cleric right now and healing is my primary interest.
Comments: I'm very laid back and down for anything from someone interested in Light Role play to someone who likes to go through every inch of every dungeon or whatever you have in mind. Just looking for someone or a small group to run through the game with who doesn't mind teaching me the ropes. Also fine with purchasing content if you want. Don't hesitate to contact me.

    welcome back

for your cleric, try hitting packs of mobs with soundburst to disable several of them. also try hitting big stupid things like ogres and trolls with command to make them sit down and stop attacking.

a cleric is so much more than a healing class, they get some great spells to play with and it can be very satisfying to mix the healing in with the casting. it will take a bit of getting used to, but give it a go, you might love it

Thanks for the advice! One other question. What kind of buffing spells are clerics always expected to have in their book? So far I have been keeping Bless and a stat buff.

It depends on the level, as some spells will override others. Eg. Bless is good until you get Mass Aid, which does the same thing but also provides some temporary HP/acts as your first mass-curative of sorts.

It also depends on the type of group: a 'typical dungeon crawl' group of 3 melee types, a specialist melee/ranged type, a Divine and an Arcane benefits greatly from standard Clerical buffs. On the other hand a caster-heavy/self sufficient group tends to be less likely to stick around for group hug buffs.

    General list:

Divine Vitality: enhancement that lets you restore SP to another party member. put one point into this one on any Cleric, possibly more if you run in a static group with a caster you can rely on. When shrining, have the Arcane shrine first and cast a couple of their self-buffs, then top up their SP with your remaining turns before shrining yourself. Note that as you gain levels and the Radiant Servant prestige enhancement, you'll be able to use your Turns for healing (while blasting undead at the same time)....your Turns will regenerate at a rate of one every 2 minutes. Thus if it's a longer quest you can often through a few DVs out as your progress, it's a good way to keep your Turns below their maximum (and thus the timer going).

Remove Fear: Use potions, they're just as effective. Note that you can target other players with some potions, such as Remove Fear, Lesser Restore, Neutralise Poison, Remove Curse, Remove Paralysis, Remove Disease.

Bless: Potions are just as effective here as well, but they only affect the character drinking them. Drop this spell as soon as you pick up Mass Aid.

Shield of Faith: Potions again...however most players will benefit from this one in the lower levels at least.

Resist Energy (also available to wizards, sorcs, rangers, paladins, druids and artificers. Many players have access to 30-point ship buffs that last for an hour, so check with your party before passing out resists. Many players are also unprepared for if they die in quest and lose those buffs. At low levels, the main energy types you'll be hit with are Fire (many traps, kobold grenades and caster scorching rays) and Acid (some traps, oozes, acid arrows).

Mass Aid (replaces Bless). Particularly notable for reviving Warforged (their healing penalty doesn't apply to temporary HP effects). Can use scrolls at level 3 and spammed throughout a quest to help keep the party healthy, though that's a bit plat intensive for new players.

Magic Circle Against Evil. Mainly helps prevent your allies from being Commanded (or Dominated by a Vampire). As of U14, the specific bonus to saves/ac vs evil mobs no longer stacks with standard Deflection/Resistance bonuses (such as those granted by Shield of Faith or Nightshield, or a 'protection item' or a 'resistance item'). This one can be scrolled as well, esp as there's no need to re-cast it during its duration.

Prayer. Works very well with Haste in a primary physical damage type party. Doesn't stack with other Luck bonuses, so no point casting it if your party consists only of Clerics/FVS/Paladins (who will be using the Divine Favor spell for a higher Luck bonus to attack/damage). The +1 luck bonus to skills can be helpful for a trap-disabler who doesn't have a Voice of the Master yet (trinket that gives +1 luck bonus to skills). The debuff portion of the spell is bugged and doesn't properly apply to mobs, so not much point casting it in combat currently.

Freedom of Movement. This one is a biggie..FOM scrolls are rare, so this is one you always want to have slotted. most players you encounter will not be able to cover this themselves. 'FOM' mostly helps prevent players from being slowed down/incapacitated by effects such as Hold Monster, Web, Grease, Ice Storm. However this one's on the Druid spell list, so if grouping with one they might be able to cover the spell. (Clerics, Favoured Souls, Druids, Bards and Rangers are the only classes that can cast this spell. There's also some rather fancy raid loot boots that provides this buff, from the Vault of Night raid. Warforged are immune to Hold Monster, but not the rest.

Also worth noting: the only hireling with FOM to my knowledge is a DDO store only one.

Death Ward. Also a big one. Death Ward prevents instant death effects, energy drain effects and negative energy. There are a few more ways for players to cover this themselves: Death Ward clickie goggles from Tangleroot, Silver Flame Necklace from Necropolis, or being a Warforged with a Deathblock item. The silver flame necklace is not a clickie, instead it has charges that get depleted whenever you are hit with a negative level/death spell. There's also a couple hirelings with the spell.

Note that Beholders will dispel the spell (along with other buffs), and some mobs have negative level effects that are not energy drain effects, thus will bypass Death Ward or WF immunity. Most common one of these is a special melee attack by Wights, active-blocking the attack will prevent it from bestowing a negative level.

Shield of Faith, Mass. I use scrolls for this (can be used at level 5) until Cleric level 12. This is because the scroll provides the same AC bonus until that point. Even then, this is a spell I tended not to prepare very often, as most players at higher levels make no investment into AC (making this a wasted buff). With Update 14 this may change though.

Protection from Elements. I like to keep this prepped and ready to throw on a freshly Raised/Resurrected character. Or indeed if I take a big heap of damage. Scrolls work just as well...I just like keeping it prepared as a panic button.

Mass Protection from Elements. I like to keep scrolls for this one, but tend to run out as I cast it quite often. Unfortunately the scrolls for this are only accessible in the Portable Hole, which can only be accessed by Teleport. In order to stock up, either ask a Wizard with Greater Teleport to taxi you, or roll up a Bard/character with Use Magic Device and Teleport scrolls to do your scroll shopping.

Mass Death Ward. Take some care using this one around Pale Masters.

Prior to the update I would have said Holy Aura as another high level buff...but that spell is too buggy to recommend. On the plus side, with less incentive to use Holy Aura, there's more incentive to use Mass Spell Resistance (which blocks Holy Aura due to a bug).

Just a small correction, you forgot Rangers.

Rangers get FoM also, just at a later level.

Don't worry though, everyone discounts Rangers, right up until they're the last one standing and carrying Soul Stones to a Shrine or using clickies to rez people.

*Edit* Just noticed that this is a bit of a necro, but hey, it's a sticky, so who cares if it helps people?

Comments: Feel free to send a tell or forum PM whenever you need help. I'll reply as fast as I can. I've been doing a lot of TR leveling so I'm a little gimped on current endgame. Also, I'm an editor for DDOwiki.

Just thought I'd do a quick update and confirm I'm active. Thanks for keeping this updated. Still on Sarlona ofc.

    Default Sarlona Mentoring

    Forum name: Mdscott_mi
In-Game: Tacotrap, Tacotank, Nilez, Taconoob and many more.
Time: I am on from 8pm EST - Midnight EST mon- thurs, weekends are pretty random times
Classes: Casters, Healers, Melee. 23 characters on Sarlona.
Comments: I am more than happy to help people with questions about gameplay, build ideas, some gear/tomes. I am proficient in the finer points of gameplay, and can pass on my knowledge to returning and new players. I can help with leveling on some days, although I have been playing for 2+ years, so I tend to be a bit zergy. Feel free to send me a tell, mentioning this post, and I will find time to help you with whatever you need. If I get a decent amount of hits, I will set aside days/time to just help out. I prefer to help returning players, but like I said, I enjoy helping out anyone really. Just send a tell in game, or pm me on forum with time & day you will be on in EST, and I will try my best to be on to help! I prefer to use voice (english) but I have no issues typing if you prefer it. Don't hesitate to ask about something if you have a question!

    Default Returning

Ok, So I am planning on returning to DDO. Been thinking about it for awhile now, but finally committed.

Started the download before I left for work. Whee.

In any case, It's been quite a long time since I played, I originally picked it up about 2 weeks after launch. So I do have a retail version of the game. As a matter of fact I still have the box and disk on my shelf, lol.

I have quite a few questions. One, I had a warforged character at the time, will I still need to unlock that race through the store?

I am not even sure what I want to play again yet, may need to see my characters when i get home before I decide, but will probably start over to get used to everything again.

But I do like to both group and solo, is there a class that handles both of these well? Will I have to invest a ton of money into the game in order to get to max level? From what I understand, many expacs you must buy, and I was curious. I don't mind investing some money if i get back into the game heavily, but I might take awhile to reach that decision, and Don't wish to be stuck.

How is finding groups in the mid levels? Are there a lot of group quests that I will have a problem finding people to help with?

Is there any place that would tell me what I will have available if i owned a retail version? (Or once it went F2P I just got premium perks and lost everything else?)

In any case, thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Welcome back.

    1. Have to purchase the WF race, with Turbine Points, if you are F2P--if you are a "VIP" you get it for "free."
    2. Favored Soul is very soloable, and works well in a group... unless it is being played by xTethx... he will just let you die.
    3. You can play and succeed at the game without spending RL $$. If you want to remain F2P entirely, you will have to grind points and points and points... in such a case I would recommend paying monthly or at the least buying a point package on sale and get the main things you want. but $15/month is reasonable for entertainment and you won't have to worry about this pack or that race.
    4. On Thelanis finding groups is easy. There are always something up at various levels. There will always be a few quests that are less than popular because of the time/reward or an annoying mechanic, but I have never had a problem getting them done.

If you are rolling up on Thelanis, I would be happy to meet up and lend a hand familiarizing you with the game.

    Default returning player

I just came back and have a few questions.

    1. What does absolute min lvl mean?

    2. Some umd scores are showing 0, does that mean you cannot bypass using umd?

    3. Is there anything i really need to know about. Have not played in about 2 years.

    Thanks,

    Preast

Hello, I'm new to the guild but am a returning player.
    I play on Sarlona server.
Character name Vatei 16 human bard.
I have many years P&P experience and am currently play testing 5th edition.

From someone with experience, is there any place for bards at endgame. I have been reading that our DC's are too low for epic content and we can no longer keep up main healing or DPS any opinions?

I am looking for an experienced player to help lead me through the raids of endgame. I am VIP so have everything unlocked. I can research as well as anyone else. So it's not hard for me to understand what I need to do in the quests. But I have trouble getting groups together for raids or flagging quests since my bard cannot solo. I also have no idea what are good quests for exp etc that I should be aiming to complete.

Any suggestions or an in game mentor would be appreciated. I do have a mic and can listen.

    Hello there

I just started playing DDO with two other buddies last night. (waay back on launch we played it a bit, but didn't get past lvl3 )
So we are 3 noobs, looking for advice etc

I made a bard (tho I did it before checking some guides), one of us going for dwarf cleric/fighter and the third will be either a ranger or a sorc.

I checked some guides but most of them are dated 2010 and even earlier. I am not sure if they are up to date.
But I must admit I still couldn't put much time to read all the material
Oh and we are on Kyber, we just hit lvl2

    Cheers

Hey Clay. I may be back in March or so after I get done traveling all over creation. Its been a hectic few years. Not looking to play seriously like the old legion days but just in it to look at the new stuff. Hit me up on FB and we can chat and see if you are still around.
