Veteran's day is known as Armistice Day/Remembrance Sunday in the UK, and centres around the ending of World War 1. Hence I've been spending most of the day thinking about that loss of life.

Sorry, not much more to say.

Correct the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to end World War I hence the name Armistice Day. Through association with military folks coming home from war was the term Veterans Day adopted in usage and later passed through congress in I believe 1948.

How did I miss this thread? You get +1 rep Mr Op.

As you all may remember my Christmas thread from last year, I get riled up when I see this topic. Even though I never served, many in my family have. Each have the most amazing stories to tell.

Here's one: My great-grandfather was shot in WWI in the chest, a timepiece worn around his neck saved his life. We still have that timepiece, with the bullet still lodged in it. The multi-generation family joke was "it was literally not his time to go."

Didn't my story seem so short? Well, some war stories ARE that short. The difference between life and death can be a split second apart. Its just not like its portrayed in Hollywood. When it comes to veterans, its amazing how little love is sent their way.

    These are the REAL heroes.

These are the men and woman that give their EVERYTHING, so we can have SOMETHING.

To the vets out there.... THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. YOU ARE OUR INSPIRATION.

Here's some of the military links I was so proud to host on the DDO forums:

Merry Christmas from Eberron to Iraq (2008)! - The thread that inspired me to NEVER stop saying thank you.

Finally some classic wartime photos and stories from a US soldier (and friend). You'll never see this on Foxnews or CNN.
