    Arrow Tell The Team: Races

    Welcome to Tell The Team!

    How it works:
Here in the thread, tell us: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question at hand. Thank you so much to everyone for offering their answers!

    Ground Rules:
Before we get started, let's lay down three ground rules if you're going to participate in the thread. These ground rules also have a few samples to help clarify participation:

#1 - The single most important rule to remember while participating in this thread is:
    No personal attacks.
If you disagree with the opinion of another participant, that's fine, but no one can make anyone agree to their opinion. Thus, please refrain from commenting on the personal qualities of others who offer their responses to the question. Personal attacks go against forum guidelines. Questions asked will be subjective, and some users will have a lot related to their opinion, while others may only define things in short phrases. All forms are acceptable.
    Hypothetical Example:
Tolero "Do you like ice cream?"
Player 1 "I hate ice cream because it's too tough to scoop"
Acceptable "I like it. It's not that bad to scoop once you let it sit on the counter for a little bit before you try to dip it Player 1."
Acceptable "I like it but I have the same problem as Player 1. What brand is it Player 1?"
Acceptable "I don't think it's too hard, I never have any problem with it. I like ice cream."
    Unacceptable "That's cause you're a noob..."
Unacceptable "You don't have enough experience with scooping to be talking about how difficult it is"
Unacceptable "How about you back that opinion up with some numbers. If you can't prove it don't bring it here"

Everyone has the right to offer their response to the question(s), whether they have scientific data to back up their feelings, or they simply just "feel" a certain way towards the question(s).

#2 - Participate as well as discuss.
If you would like to join in the discussion, please be sure to offer your response to the questions as well, in addition to your conversation with any other thread participants
    Hypothetical Example:
    Tolero "What's your favorite color?"
    Player 1 "Blue"
    Player 2 "Green"
Acceptable "Purple... hey Player 2, how come you like Green?"
Unacceptable "hey Player 2 how come you like Green?"

Please be sure to take the time to offer your own opinion of the question(s) before you engage in a discussion about other people's opinions in the thread.
    [CENTER]
#3 - Don't recycle the above hypothetical examples in your responses as it spams the thread.
    -------------------------- Let's Get Started! --------------------------

For the non-lore centric, let's try a question that's a little more general (but always important):

If you could play any D&D themed race in-game, what would it be... and why? Feel free to name your top 3!

I would play tieflings, aasimar and half-elves.

My reasoning: Because they fit within the Planar Ecology of Eberron (sorry, my beloved kender, irda and Taladian minotaurs must wait their turn for a Dragonlance server).

Aasimar are a very innately-good race due to their celestial bloodlines and lineage.
Tieflings are a very innately-evil or neutral race due to their demonic bloodlines and lineage.

They both represent the Dragon Above and Dragon Below as well as the continuing conflict with the Shavarath. They are natural insertions to the planar travel that is aloof with mod9 and beyond (if we see this come to pass).

Half-elves are a missing race when you have drow, elves and humans. They offer another option and will grant varied enhancements or mixing & matching of their ancestories. I would really like the option to play a half-elf druid.

    1. Half-orcs - Most different game from a visual and gameplay perspective and an important part of Eberron.
    2. Gnomes - They're just cool and an important part of Eberron.
    3. Half-elves - Well, not really impressed but they are a an important part of Eberron and core class in both 3.5 and 4th Edition.

    Post World related race

I would like to see Eberron specific races. I think it gives a nicer integrated feeling. I believe that the Warforge is a success everyone enjoys them. So lets us have that shape-changing races.. (sorry don't know what its called) and on a slightly unrelated point. The artificier...would add something to the setting aswell.

    My 2 cents.

I would like to play an Air Elemental.

    More serious:

Eladrin, which are close to the Elves we have now and wouldn't take much tweaking, but including the short range teleport abiliy on a timer.

The Eberron Elves (can't recall their name) who use the scimitars and double scimitars would need to tweak the enhancements.

Kalashtar, because it's fun to say, and it's part of Eberron lore.

    Half-Orc

I've always been enamored of half-orcs because of the dichotomy presented with the blending of the bestial and civilized (or the expectation of both).

Of course, the half-orc is also just a natural fit for the adventuring lifestyle presented in the D&D mythos. Wanderer, outsider, competent, violent, unpredictable, anti-hero, brutal, these are all qualities that can describe a half-orc and are all qualities that make them a very desirable racial stereotype in D&D.

    I like how D&D explains half-orcs.

    Three eh?

    Eberron Specific:
Kalashtar - why? Because it doesn't take a Kalashtar to know that someone wants me to go down that tunnel. (okay not quite exact, but I don't run Graymoon enough). Psionics would also add another dimension to the game.

    Non-Eberron Specific:
Gnomes: why? They are the mechanics of the D&D world whether it relates to magic or mechanical. I also used to play a gnome mage who had a fascination for blunderbusses. Despite having that thing misfire more often than not, just the shock effect it had on creatures when I attacked them with my "boomstick" made up for the misfires.

Half-Orcs: why? When it comes to bodyguards, their strength is unmatched. They are also dumb as dirt.

Half-orcs have been given the Mark of Finding, which they are with humans, and is the Mark of House Tharashk,.

I'll do four, all for the same reason - they are integral to the lore of Eberron.
    • Gnomes - Mark of Scribing
    • Half Orcs - two - Mark of Finding...
    • Half Elves - Mark of Storms
    • Kalashtar - part of our unfolding Dal Quor prophecy..

#1: Goliath from 4.0 D&D. Why? they are a new exciting race, full of possibilities not yet fully fleshed out.

#2: Derini from an OLD Dragon magazine. Why? want a super awesome psionic race for your campaign? That's it.

#3: Shifters; any kind of race would be nice. Why? one race w/multiple forms MULIPLIES the fun.
