Talking The Official Half-Orc Fan Club

As much D&D is Tolkein inspired, I beleive the Half-Orcs are actually the Uruk-hai of Middle-Earth.
This race is ideal if you have ever wanted to play: The Loner, The Outcast, or perhaps even my favorite...The Monster.
It is unfortunate to think that players of a very similar type of game as DDO are able to play Orcs. No Half-... Just Orcs.

That being said let us look at a brief history of the Half-Orc. Please post additonal historical information I may have neglected.

    • Half-Orcs officially playable race first in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. Great creepy pic of a skinny, greasy-haired pig-nosed Half-Orc in Player's Handbook.
    • Removed in AD&D 2.
    • Returned again to their monsterous (and muscley) stature in D&D 3.
    • Removed yet again in DDO.
    • Mentioned as a possability for DDO.
    • Removed again in D&D 4.
    • Half-Orcs appear in D&D 4, but not in the primary Player's Handbook.
    • ORCTOBER 20, 2010 Half-Orcs appear in Stormreach.

My Half-Orc characters ranged from bottom-feeding scum-bags, to barbaric assassins and beserkers, to power-crazed Battle-Priests more eagar to bane an enemey than heal you.
    • What stories do you have about your Half-Orc characters?
    • What else do you remember about Half-Orcs?
    • Does anyone have any pics of Half-Orcs they can post?
    • Do you remember the names to the Orcish gods?

ARE THE GAMORREAN GUARDS OF RETURN OF THE JEDI.......SPACE-ORCKS?

one of my early days playing a halforc my buddy and I were playing halforc cleric assasins and were on a boat with some higher level characters and decided to go below when a giant squid attacked since we were small and weak, well since the others were busy we decided to rob some of them. well the paladin came down to get his better sword to fight the squid and he caught my buddy robbing him and was about to kill him when I came from behind him and surprised him and managed my 1% assasination attempt on him. Usually played halforc fighters and always liked them. I say bring them on now.

and now I dont remember any orc gods other then Grumish or something like that.

    Talking Nice!

    Nice story Usaka!

I had a Two-Weapon Fighter Half-Orc armed with spiked gauntlets (punch cutters?) and spiked armor.

My buddy role-played his Dwarf to a tee. Sides were chosen.
What basically re-sulted was a party-wipe/bloodbath with my Half-Orc killing everyone, and the Dwarf killing me!

Half-Orcs are prominent in Eberron. House Tharashk is important, and half-orcs also have a special connection to druids (see Gatewardens). I have always loved Half-orcs, this is my justfication as to why DDO should not abandon them. I'd love to see half-orcs in DDO.

Not removed at all. Page 14, Player's Handbook 2 - Primal, Arcane, and Divine Heroes, First Printing: March 2009

That said, I'm looking at my very first half-orc character sheet from AD&D right now. Grumach Hardhand was a level 8/9 Fighter/Assassin, Neutral Evil, created on 01/01/1987. Man, I'm old.

    18 Str, 12 Int, 9 Wis, 17 Dex, 17 Con, 8 Cha
Gauntlets of Dexterity, a Ring of Prot. +3, and a whip +1. (Wow, that was a low-magic campaign.)

    pick pockets - 70%
    open locks - 67%
    remove/find traps - 60%
    move silently - 70%
    hide in shadows - 56%
    hear noise - 30%
    climb walls 98%
    read language 45%

AC of -1 (which I can't even figure out now looking at the sheet), and 67 hit points!

Those were the good ol' days.......
"The sword itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with swords."

I'm not a big fan of making alts. I have two characters, one main (Drow Assassin) and one Shroud-runner to supply ingredients to my assassin (a Cleric).

I have been holding off on making a third character solely so I could make a half orc strength-based assassin.

I want my Half Orc Assassin!!!!

I don't usually play half-Orcs....but I promise to role up a half-Orc Druid if the devs will let me.

They are a very popular choice for many chars. And should be included in this game.

I had a Half Orc Cleric Assassin who was a little out of the ordinary....his father was a human and his mother was an orc, as opposed to the other way around.

    Put them in!

I have several alts, BUT I beleive it is best to focus on one character. I have mostly played my 15th level ranger from start to now CONSISTENTLY.

    Good method Drac.

Many many half-orcs over the decades...

One pops to mind, a LG half-orc fighter named Vallain. He aspired to be a paladin, despite the fact that the DMs NPC paladin would constantly beat him for daring to think such thoughts. (1st edition, paladins limited to Humans.)

(Was a shame, the guy was usually a danged good DM/GM - just now & then took a strange left turn into oddball land.)

Then there was Toulouse, a female half-orc cleric/thief - cleric of Aphrodite.
...and we won't go into how she obtained her tithings.

Just thought I would post up about a half-orc I once knew. In 1991 I attended GenCon and was seated at one of the turneys. The characters were distributed randomly and I recieved Oogly. He was ugly and dumber than a rock, but he had heart and was strong. Alas, he did not survive that encounter but to this day is often spoken of in dark taverns when the ale is flowing.

Its funny what things we remember. I only played Oogly for about 45 minutes and to this day I remember him.

I would love to see half-orcs brought to the game. I would definetly make Oogly in some form.

    Talking First Half-Orc

First Half-Orc I created was based on the pic in the AD&D Players Handbook.

He was sort of a Smeagle influenced Half-Orc Thief (Beggar-build).
He was weak and cowardly, but still a good lockpick & trapsmith.

He would perform the regular backstab as well.

    Default Others...

    Other Half-Orcs include:

Fighter-Cleric, War Priest, specialized in pain & disease spells.

    Fighter-Thief, Ranger-"wanna-be"

and a Fighter-Thief, that was a "taskmaster" build.
