You should add Archons and Yugoloths which both likely will be in mod 9 in addition to the demons and devils.

I am only stating what we currently have in DDO, as doing otherwise would be stating something that is based on assumption and not truth.

Reposting a little back-of-envelope check I just did for what the minimal set of weapons needed for coverage of this entire list is, and I believe it's 3 (assuming UMD):

    1. Transmuting <Bludgeoner> of Pure Good
    2. Holy <Piercing> of Pure Chaos
    3. <Any> <Slashing> of True Law OR Axiomatic <Slashing> of <Anything>

    Note:
    - Bludgeoning is needed in combination with a metal (for the Clay Golems); Slashing or Piercing aren't paired with a metal. Therefore, Bludgeoning is the best "single weapon" choice for your Transmuter.
    - Pure Chaos and True Law could be switched; however, Pure Chaos on the piercer better synergizes for the Rakshasa.

    nice, thx for the list.

Im going to dislike having to carry around blunt, slashing and piercing weapons as opposed to just having transmuters to replace all these.

I'll also dislike having to craft mineral II's for all of my characters to be effective on hard and elite shrouds. Having enough silver + good/holy, or transmuting of pure good, or mineral II's to equip all characters is going to be dfficult.

Personally, the weapon minimalization set would be:

    • Anarchic Adamantine Bludgeon
    • Transmuting Flametouched Iron Piercing
    • Axiomatic Cold Iron Slashing

No UMD involved, no greensteel involved. Only Taeron Rimond is missing, who requires Cold Iron + Evil (aka, Mineral II or a very very rare weapon that hasn't dropped for ages).

I am pretty sure that Orthons and (I think) Bearded Devils have dr/good (or holy) I seem to remember red numbers when using my lightning II on them.

Edit: Looked it up in SRD they are dr/silver or holy

But won't either the Anarchic or the Axiomatic cost most characters (i.e. those that aren't neutral or neutral good) a level while it's equipped? That seems an annoying price to pay.

But I guess that's unavoidable for certain alignments who don't have UMD, huh?

Still, if you DO have UMD, you probably prefer a True Law or True Chaos instead of the negative level?

And maybe there's a little incentive to take Neutral alignments now? Probably not enough, though, if pure power optimization is your goal.

I don't think UMD negates the level drain. I have a high UMD character that I'm pretty sure takes a level drain with Axiomatic weapons... which is why I never use them... will double check tonight.

I am guessing that the UMD comment was thrown in due to the following:

Being on the opposite alignment spectrum of a Holy/Unholy/Axiomatic/Anarchic weapon causes a negative level while using it. UMD does not negate this negative level.

Being on the opposite alignment spectrum of Pure Good/Pure Evil/True Law/True Chaos does not cause a negative level while using it. However, to use such items in these ways, you must bypass the UMD restriction, which is a UMD skill of 20 or higher.

my lawful good sorc with a umd of 37 uses an anarchic of gcb for portals. He takes a negative level when doing so.
