That's why my last DM would give everyone a free 18 if any one person rolled an 18. I forget which # in the list he'd have us replace with the 18, though.

The worst (imo) random generation set up one of my DMs had, though, was the regular (4d6-lowestd6)*6, but you couldn't freely assign stats. You had to place them in order you rolled them for str > dex > con > int > wis > cha. I think I ended up with 12, 12, 10, 8, 12, 10 and made a human monk out of it. God, she sucked.

It wasn't a personal attack, it was a general statement.

I would say the developers prefer options because more build options is the objective of balance.

Build options is only part of balancing, not all of it. If something is overpowering then they will remove it or change it to bring about some balance. Give and take. Not just give.

Of course, because it is much less work to remove it than to bring everyone to that level.

Furthermore, if you look at the quote, it was a quote about buffing one build at the loss of others so that objection makes no sense at all, by itself.

It might also just unbalance things more to bring everyone to that level.

Yeah. It's a bigger risk as there is more unknown.

The capstone is fine, just wish a capped fighter would have more of a chance to match up with a barbarians performance in offensive combat. The Kensai set bonus is rediculous- show me a kensai fighter that has difficulty landing a hit on something?

Wish there could've been some kind of further strength or constitution upgrade for fighters.

On a side note, Does the Jorgundal's collar melee alacrity enhancement stack with all other alacrity enhancing bonuses like the fighter capstone, fighter haste boost clicky, madstone rage, and haste potion, or does it get negated by one of the aforementioned?

I'm new to the game but old to D&D and havn't reached the heights of lvl 20 yet, but this sounds like a good thing to me, I used to like the devastating critical feat for my fighters in Neverwinter nights, that seperated the men from the boys.
