Default Rogue Capstone: Cheat Death Preview

Rogues have a tough life. They're more fragile than other combat classes, and seem to always be the ones sent into horrible deathtraps just because they have a bit of mechanical knowledge. When everything starts going wrong and the world itself turns against them, they can always...

    Cheat Death
    Prereq: Level 20 Rogue
    Cost: 2 AP
Benefit: A master rogue can defy even death if their luck holds out. You have a chance of self-resurrection should you die, but this chance drops each time you die between rests. Maruts have a particular dislike for you.

If there's ever been a skill I wanted in real life, it's this one.

Meh. Cool, yes, but it isn't going to make me regret multiclassing a rogue.

    What's the chance? Like 1%, 10%, 50%?

I like it, depending on the percentage chance of self ressurection of course.

Interesting. What is the current percentage of the capstone (that is still undergoing playtesting in order to determinate whether it's underpowered, overpowered or satisfactory)?

Isn't that the point? Cool, but doesn't make me regret multiclassing my existing rogue, and it does give me a little more incentive to roll up that pure rogue I've always considered making.

If that self ressurection debuffs you, big meh (you wouldn't survive long to enjoy it).
    Otherwise, quite nice

I think this would be most interesting if the ability was a trigger, set at dropping below -9, that immediately healed you to full HP rather than permitting you to die, that way you still have your buffs, and do not die immediately after being raised. Similar to the cleric capstone, yet different.

And honestly, dying only to be raised seems less like cheating death than coming right to the brink of death and then veering sharply away at breakneck speed. Think "Final Destination." The characters didn't die and get resurrected, they managed to just escape the clutches of Death.

"Whoops, sorry reaper-man, made a wrong turn there by the acid trap. Didn't mean to come calling at your door. I'll be on my way now. No, no, don't worry, it'll be a while yet before I come knocking, or you have to come calling. Yes, go back inside...go play with mini-D. Yup. Uh...I know it's your job and all, but seriously, I'm okay. No. Put that scythe back in the closet..." /runaway

This ability should really be coded like the delay death capstone... and allow the rogue to keep his buffs.

IMO, no. Capstones should at least provide some reason to stay pure class. This one, like the Cleric, is rather laughable and lacks much reason to invest 2 APs on it even if you are pure class.

The ideal reaction to me would involve 2 things...
    1) Some reason not to multiclass. Give me an incentive. On a Cleric, I need a reason not to splash Monk 2. That Fighter/Paladin are in the same boat. Non-evasion classes NEED a reason to not splash for it. Non-martial weapons classes (Rogue/Bard/Monk) NEED a reason to not splash for proficiencies or bonus feats.
    2) It should be a no-brainer 2 AP investment if you are pure class. That is, all Rogue 20 characters should want this Enhancement.
