Default What is a PuG? What does it stand for?

A PuG is a party that consists of people who have do not have any relation with each other, be it guildies or friends, at all, right?

Hehe, just kind of wondering here, thanks!

    Pick up Group

A somewhat random or loose group that came together not through guilds or friends lists.

PUG stands for Pick Up Group

Basicaly it is when you advertize for players on the Looking for More or when a group collects players primarily from the Looking for Group list.

As opposed to a closed group of freinds or guild members who do not publicly advertise for more members or pick up strangers to fill out the group.

The thing with PUGs is you rarely know what the quality of the group will be like. It could be great, it could be terrible.

It stands for Pick-up Group. And basically ya you are right it is a group that is kind of created on the spot. Usually players who are looking to do the same activity.

Also, at least in my guild, a PUG stands for any individual player that we picked up through an LFM.

Note that in and of itself, PuG is not a derogatory term. It just refers to an individual(s) coming together or joining a group that are not affiliated. Such as "no one was on from the guild, so I went Pugging last night" or "grab a PuG to fill out our group", etc.

The negative connotation that becomes involved with the word revolves around what a previous poster mentioned....that it's like the lottery. Sometimes PuG's are great, sometimes not so great, but as anyone in customer sevice knows, people always tend to remember the negative experience longer than the positive one, so that's one reason why you'll sometimes hear that word used in a negative way.
