Default Mistress of Mayhem (a build by request)

    Build Name: Classic Sorcerer
    Author: Sigfried Trent
    Requester:Mistress Mayhem
    Last Updated: 02/07/2011

Key Words [Sorcerer, Basic, Damage, Control, Human]

    Objectives
The request was for an insta-kill sorcerer. At the time specialization was required to do this, but now its a bit more workable to do both damage and control on a sorcerer and damage is what the class is especially good at so this build covers both sides of the casting perspective.

    Design
Humans make nice sorcerers due to high charisma and good skill access and the extra feat. This lets the build have it both ways on damage and control while also running umd and haggle (for convenience sake). For spell selection I tried to pick what I think are good end game selections. Likely somewhat different choices are better as you level up. I provided a range of different damage options through spells and enhancements.

    Update
I noticed it was missing skills and spells and decided to update it. I changed the feat mix a little for less damage and more point to kill type action adding enlarge so you can kill from the comfort of home. Substitute Maximize if you want a more well rounded experience.

Basic sorcerer strategy, learn to avoid pain, learn to pick the right spell for the right situation. There should be few challenges this character can not overcome.

    Variations
The only variations I'd recommend are adjusting your spell list based on the game content you are up against. Certainly this spell list is end game focused and different low level spells may serve you better leveling up.

    Got a question:

this build is meant to rise fire/cold spells, illusion spells, necromacy spells power. How are the spell chosen distributed in those classes? Wouldn't be more efficent dropping a spell focus and power up focus evocation spells (since, i think, it covers fire/cold spells)?

Evocation is a secondary (Or tertiary, depending on how its played) strategy, only coming out in red-name encounters, with this build. As the descriptor said, mainly built around insta-death fingering and PKing, with, assuming Wail of the Banshee as the logical 18th level pickup, greater focus on Necro for the heightened DC.

don't be too serious to this build. it is obsoleted. (and it is too gimp'd to criticize in today's standard)

re. evocation, the only spell that will benefit from evocation is Cone of Cold.

Are you saying this because we're back in a "DPS is King" stage, or is there something more to it?

    Variations
The only variations I'd recommend are adjusting your spell list based on the game content you are up against. Certainly this spell list is end game focused and different low level spells may serve you better leveling up.
how do you view spell list, i dont see it.

There is no spell list there. If you like this build, then for spells you can follow any typical spell suggestions for sorcs at low to mid level (since the feat and enhancement selection are pretty typical). At high levels, I think the OP plans to use Necro school spells.

Warning, a couple of mods back the designers made major game changes at high levels to squash out the usefulness of this build. In my opinion for the most part they succeeded. It can be very tough landing good necro spells in very high level content. If after knowing this you still desire to be the necro guy then here is what I suggest.

    1. Take Necro focus and Greater necro focus as your first two feats.
    2. Take Extend as one of your last feats
    3. Either take Empower last, or don't take empower at all and select another feat. Not using empower will not really effect your overall damage output potential over your whole mana bar but will reduce your elemental spell DPS (not major hit but noticeable).

Here is a list of Necro spells that require saves.

    Bestow curse,
    Blindness,
    chill touch,
    command undead,
    control undead,
    create undead,
    finger of death,
    goul touch,
    halt undead,
    Ray of Exhaustion,
    and some symbols.

For 1st and 2nd level spell list I would suggest something like,
Chill Touch, Expeditious Retreat, Nightshield, Magic Missile
    Web, command undead, ghoul touch,
    Resist energy

Since most of what you will be doing is DC spell casting, I would suggest choosing a Drow for the additional Charisma over a Human. Also, pick up a necro focus weapon to boost your DC. Since some of your good spells (chill touch and ghoul touch) are very close range spells, I would suggest picking up balance as a skill. You will also probably need jump too. This means you will need more points in intelligence. This build will perform extremely well thru level 16 content (shroud) in fact at those levels you can easily top the kill count in most all quests (including shroud). Depending on play style it may drop off there after. In my opinion though, the content "fun factor" starts to weaken as the level increase past 16 becoming absolutely dreadful at epic.

    Default sorceror build

thanks for taking the time for the feedback. I have only been playing for a couple of weeks and am trying to start a good spell caster, and doing it right the first time.
    any suggestions?

I'm a guy from another story (playing mostly fvs and monks), but I cannot see a thing
in this build, which would justify having only 160 hp. Actually the hps are *so* low it's kind
of hard to refrain from sarcastic remarks, and that I make none must be a sign of me growing
    up or something, probably.

Well the first sentence here speaks volumes.

I think you must be a guy from another planet. Suggesting that he bump the con even higher to 18 would mean he would have to drop his charisma. A poor idea to say the least.

Best if you stick to your own story, playing classes that specialize in killing things by 100 tiny stings.

Umm, sorcerers only get 4 hit points per level. At level 20 we're talking a base 80, +20 heroic, +X Con bonus, unmodified by gear. This is normal for sorcerers and wizards.

The hit points can go up easily:

    1) Swap a feat for Toughness and grab a couple of enhancements. With just Toughness and Racial Toughness II, add another 42 hit points.
    2) +6 Con item - another 60 hit points.
    3) Wear a Minos Legens and a Greater False Life belt - tack on another 50 hit points.
    4) Get 150 Agents of Argo favor - thats 10 more hit points.
    5) Eat a +2 Con tome sometime - another 20 hit points.

    80 base
    20 heroic
    140 Con (24 Con - 16 base, +2 tome, +6 item)
    10 Draconic
    20 Minos Legens
    30 GFL item
    22 Toughness fear
    20 racial enhancements

=342 without crafted or raid gear. The total could go higher with exceptional hit point items, exceptional Con, rage buffs, etc, etc. Even a low-hit point class like a sorcerer can crack 400 hit points or more with the right gear.

There was a mention of evocation which was dead wrong...

Here are the spells from the school of evocation:http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=10

You know, alot of your important ones.

Congratulations. I don't think I ever saw such a judgmental post in so few words, attacking an argument
one made up oneself and put in the mouth of one's diputant. God, why it's so hard to resist a riposte to a trolling post... I promise I'll keep trying.

But coming back on track I can see someone made a very good summary of how to improve the HPs.
It deservees mentioning, the human race is a good choice, if only for giving a free slot for toughness
for a feat-starved class. Even though it limits the last toughness enhancements, allowing for just one
    point increase in constitution.

Man as far as I know from my lvl 19 drow sorc (i know humans better but i love the look of drow ) ur fully buffed sorc wouldnt survive even the slashin traps in dq raid at lvl 16+-. So what do u want ur sorc to do? Spend ages with groups in wildernesses to earn xp? And wait till u hit 20 to try to loot some nice gear? And ur insta death with greater necromancy will be useless in epic where many mobs have death ward... And what for do u want to use heighten? I think u really should have toughness at least... I think ur build turns from insta death by u to insta death of u...

As for how insta-killing goes, heighten gives +2dc to finger of death which is more than greater necro focus. At high level play, web doesn't work without heighten because it's low level spell. Just saying heighten IS important.

If you really want to fit toughness to this build, perhaps it would be better to drop empower? I love it but then again, I don't play insta-kill build.

    Hi,

Looks like fun! Would this build work with 28 points? And if so, where would the changes be then?

    Cheers,

    Fl0w
