Default Turbine Advisory: Protect Your Private Information

Turbine takes the security of your personal information seriously. Recently, we've received some reports of suspicious emails from turbinegames.net and accmanagement@turbinegames.net. These emails request the verification of your account information including username and password. These emails are not from Turbine, Inc. Please do not reply to them if you find one in your inbox.

Turbine will never ask for your account name and password via email. Please forward any such requests to us at fraud@turbine.com for investigation.

Legitimate email from Turbine will only be sent from turbine.com, ddo.com, lotro.com, and thelordoftheringsonline.com. Email from any other domain claiming to be from Turbine should be also be forwarded to fraud@turbine.com.

    Thank you for your assistance!

Hmm, I believe I remember a recent post about the plat farmers and that they were running out of plat to sell. Wonder if this is there new mechanic on how to refill their stock?

    ---Back to reality---

of course it does -- it's the site she said is pretending to represent turbine but doesn't really.

That could be a bit misleading. It is very easy to pretend to send an email from one of these domains, and deceive the non experts. So you should emphasize that an email apparently coming from such an address is not necessarily a valid email either.

Quite true. Just becase an email may show the proper address doesn;t mean it's real, as it isnt too hard to fake. Usually though such emails will include links to click on, which can be presented as official links. Simple suggestion is to verify that the link presented is actually going where it says. Check its description or copy/paste the link to verify it is actually what it shows in the email. Its not uncommon for the link to show www.ddo.com, but instead actually go to account.stealer.com.

Most probably are aware of this but some probably arent.

    Good post good advice.
My wifes identity was stolen by a co-worker, but we thankfully caught it early so there was no damage but my wife took it personally. Long story short, that [bleep] that stole her identity is now sitting in jail because she went after them full force.
Definately picked the wrong victim there.

    Hands you another cupcake.

The other thing I have noticed is a drastic increase in in-game mail from plat farmers. Much much worse than it was before.

Wow, sense the merge I have noticed the exact opposite. I've only received one or two plat farmer emails in the last couple of weeks. Used to get way way more.

(Probably just cursed my self and will find my mail box full tonight. Have any remove curse cupcakes?)

    Hello all

I wanted to jump on here and clarify a few things for you all.

First and most importantly: A Turbine employee will never EVER ask for your account password for ANY reason, by any means! If someone is doing so, they're not from Turbine, and you should not comply. We do however, frequently ask for your username by email and other means in order to assist you with customer service inquiries or otherwise. Sharing this information with us is safe, as long is you never share your password.

Second, you may indeed receive legitimate email from us in the future, asking you to update your personal information. We have recently started sending out courtesy emails reminding you when your credit card is about to expire, so that you can update it without gameplay interruption.

These email's will contain links ONLY to the following websites:
When you hover over links in your browser window, you can always see if they really lead to where they say they lead, by looking in the lower-left corner. When hovering over a link, you'll see the exact URL that it leads to. If the text link in the email does not match the URL in the bottom-left corner, it's likely fraudulent.

The best policy when receiving an email that you have doubts about is to delete it, and then MANUALLY visit http://myaccount.turbine.com to check your information. Do not use any of the links in the email to go to this site, unless you are sure it is from us.

    To recap:
    1. NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORD! We'll NEVER ask for it.
    2. When in doubt, check your account manually! Don't use the links.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them. We're here to help!

    -Quarion

For an example of a link that doesn't go where it claims, you wouldn't want to click on http://myaccount.turbine.com.

    Sure thing!

Yeah for me, my box is full almost every day. I am talking about at least 6 a day since the merge.

My unwanted mail has about tripled since the merge, but rumor has that Turbine is cooking up some changes to the mailbox to alleviate the issue.

Most of it is mail to my L14 characters telling me that they'll level me to 14.
I have to question their business model.

    ...creepy.
I purposfully gave it an ominous sounding link, and made sure that it wasn't valid before posting.

I apologize, Borr, that it didn't actually link to a bad HTML hack of Turbine's site that said "Please to be enter your account and pass word. We are to need verify you're Credit Card."

    I'll try harder next time.
