    Default A Soloist Ranged Ranger

    Goal: Create a Ranger, Specializing in Ranged Combat, that is Capable of significant solo Plau through most normal Quest.

    THis was a Request and I think I got a decent template here. I considered Shot onthe Run for this build since moving around is going to be pretty important.. But the feat progression is just to demanding IMO.

    Only 10 Levels of Ranger menas Bark is a little light... But with the Paly Levels and AUra its made up for and then some.

    Paly also gives is the SOverign Host ENH for an extra +1 longbow attack. Not to mention Significant Saving throws + Elven Enchantemnet Resistances makes this guy a Solid Solo play.

    THe only thing that I dont like is the DPS Capabilitites of this buld. Sneak attack will pretty muchnever come into play for Soloing and STR is low. You'll need to rely on some decent Bows with Multiple Damage enhancements to take down mobs quick.

    At first I did a level of ROgue for UMD.. But then decided full ROgue Skills would be nice for solo play as well. This guy wont be the uber Rogue in Elite Contenet.. But shouldnt have much Trouble with Normal or even Hard content.

    So here ya go... Let meknow what ya think..... ANd keep inMind this is a 28 PT Build with Pretty basic gear. This s a Character a new player could put together pretty easily... FOr 32 Pt theres a few options.. I'll let you decide on that.

    I would rather go halfling and drop dex to 16 and int to 10. This frees up 6 points. I would also drop a level of paladin to get ranger to 11. Ranger 11 has too many benefits to pass up.

    Free Ranger Feats
    Many Shot Increase

    Rogue abilities are nice, but I wouldn't go for them. I would rather drop int to 10 and max diplomacy, UMD, hide and move silently.

    20Pt Resists are plenty for Normal/Hard Content. Its also Improved Precise Shot.. Not a Many Shot Improvement at L11.

    You lose Elf Ranged Enhancments as wel as Search/Spot.

    Losing 3rd Level of Paly is pretty serious to this build as well... You lose your Disease and Fear Immunity, You loose your Aura Enhancements as well.

    Those are also 32Pt Build Starting Stats.. My build is 28.

    I would defiantly go ranger for 15/16 on thsi build when the cap goes up.

    Ya scratch the many shot. I brain farted and was thinking the arrows progressed with ranger levels not bab.

    I would have fear immunity from scrolling gh.
    The -1 to saves aura is made up by being a halfing and getting +1 to saves.
    The -1 ac is a net loss.
    Just use a wand for disease.
    Losing elf racial enhancements to search and spot doesn't matter if I'm not trapsmithing.
    Losing elf enhancements to attack is a net loss, but as you said we are talking normal content so they are not needed to hit.
    Improved precise shot is worth more to me alone then anything 3rd level pally brings to the table. <--play style and opinion.

    Nope those are 28-Point stats.

    Again by level 20 we would have the same build with 1rogue/3pally/16ranger or mabee even 1rogue/4pally/15ranger, I would just take a slightly different progression to 14.

    Ah. FOr SOme reason I though Halflings Started at 6 CON.... Dunno where the other 2 points came from in my head..... Monday thing.....


    I dont like to have to rely on Greater Heroism for Fear Imunity... and Yeah, I can wand Disease.. But its a Cure rather than a Prevention.

    I also feel having full rogue skills on a Solo build is a HUGE benefit. Some traps are nasty.....

    FOr L20, I would probobly go 12Ranger/3Paly/7 Rogue... This build could be a lot more fun if some of the other skills were bumped up....

    I agree rogue skills would be nice. If I never wanted to party in the elite setting and the build was a pure themed build for solo content, then I would probably roll the way you did in your op.

    It would be a fun build to play if anything. With such a high cha and playing content on normal, the empathy line of enhancements could come in handy as well.

    Default A build that goes against conventional wisdom...

    Well, with the criteria you've presented and the realities of DDO you might want to consider a post mod 5.0 human.

    Ranged combat is only useful during the 20 seconds of multishot. Team that with Human Versatility to hit action boost.

    What's laid out below is an at lvl 14 character. If you wanted to metagame him a bit I'd start out with SF: Search and then use our free feat respec to get mobility before you hit level 6. Also multiple enhancement respecs would be a great idea.

    Major Flaws inthe Human....

    First and Foremost.. I dont think you can stack Multi-Shot with the HV To Hit Boost..... THey are both Timed Boosts... Most Times Boosts cannot be activated at the same time.

    Second is how much TO Hit your Giving up in order to go Human.

    14 Base Dex First..... That puts you to a Max of 26 for a +8... THe Elf is Getting to +12. The Elf ALso gets +2 from enhancements.

    Now.. If ya can use Multi-Shot and HV at the same time that certainly makes the Human a little bit more appealing.... But I still dont think it outperforms the Elf....

    The only comment I'd make is that either 2 levels of rogue, or 11 levels of ranger gives you evasion, which is worth its weight in gold, in my experience w/my solo-ist ranger/rogue.

    If I had to choose, I'd go 3 paladin, 2 rogue and 9 ranger, because, as you said, the auras are nice. I forget what kind of features 10th level rangers have, but if that's a must have, 2 pally - Fear immunity is easily combatted w/potions at the lower levels, and when you get to the higher levels and the immobilizing fear, you have various items and spells to help.


    Plus that second level of rogue boosts the rogue skills quite a bit.

    You can use both Action boost and Multshot at the same time. And even better if the baddie is fairly squishy you can do +5 damage rather than +5 to hit per arrow.

    Personally, the best race for this class split is Drow. But I wanted to give some options.

    Ranger lvl 9 gives you evasion. Level 11 gives you Greater 2WF, Improved Precise Shot and Wild Instincts. Also you need to think of what that 2nd level of rogue will cost later on. Lvl 16 ranger will give a saves boost and a 2nd level 4 spell. (Freedom of Movement plus Summon Nature's Ally 4 is fun for rangers.)

    Definitely go 2 Pally and 11 Ranger. The feats, and 30 Resists are huge. At 20 point resists, you become a resist burden like a Fighter.

    The extra Pally level is nice, but Divine Grace is enough. Fear Immunity is almost a non-factor right now with high saves. You really only miss the CHA enhancement and the extra LOH.

    Drow is a nice alt for this, but the Longbow Enhancement is only available to Elves...

    Will save is still reletivly low on this build.. I left the 3rd level of paly for late inteh build..... It will be very easy to switch to Ranger if you feel the added benefits arent worth it.


    As Rogue skills go, this guys Search and Spot hit the High Water Marks with just +10 Items and GH... No Luck Item, No +13 or +15 gear..... Buff up the Gear and he's Elite capable. Not infalable at Elite.....But definatly a Strong alternative to not having a rogue at all.

    As far as being able to use HV and Multishot at the same time, Unless someone has tested it on Risia, we cannot assume they will work together. HV is getting a MAJOR change. Currently, There is zero interaction between Multi-shot and HV.. so them being able to be used at the same time doesnt surprise me all that much.. With Mod 5, they obviously will both effect combat stats.....

    You get 3 advantages from taking it early in the game though. First, it gives you more time to backfill the skill points so that they're maxed late in the game. Second, you have all the minor enhancements paid for by the time you seriously take ranger levels. Third, the saves, immunities and AC is always worth putting off evasion for.

    Also to help with the "Weak will saves" you need to factor in that a CHA item for a pally is a stackable resistance item and you have access to enchantment resistance which covers pretty much all the will saves in the game. (Feeblemind hurts though...)

    Unless Turbine is majorly deviating from the action boosts that they've currently implemented you will be able to use them. Paladin Action Boost: Attack currently works with Multishot.

    One other point about HV. You're never behind in the skill action boost chain when you have it. The reason I also grabbed Ranger action boost is so you can use it with UMD checks until they even out and you'll get additional uses of HV when you hit ranger lvl 11 and get the extra skill action boost.

    Could you do a drow? I think Drow would be better for what you are trying to do.

    A Drow Version is easy. Just depends on what direction you want to go. You basically get 4 extra build points... More damage? Pute em in STR For a 14. More Skills? Put it in INT.... Spells? Wisdom.

    You lose your Elf Bow Enhancements for BAB will be -2 from the calculations above, and have 6 action points to spend on something else.
