Default Survey: do you cast Holy Sword?

Well, now that the Holy Sword spell has been out for paladin 14s a few weeks, does anyone actually use it? Why or why not?

    Expected possible answers:
    A. No, I don't have a paladin 14.
    B. No, my paladin never tried it.
    C. Yes, I tested it a few times and hated it.
    D. Yes, I use it in quests against monsters with DR/Good+Cold Iron
    E. Yes, I use it in quests against monsters with DR/Good or DR/Cold Iron.
    F. Yes, I use it in quests against evil monsters.
    G. Yes, I use it in quests against monsters.
    H. Yes, I use it in quests against slimes.

I have been hunting in-game for paladins who use this spell, but haven't found any yet...

    Follow-up question
If you have a pal14 and do not use Holy Sword, what would it take to get you to cast this spell? Any of the following?

    [ ] Stacking material components
[ ] Same material component for different weapon types
[ ] Material component remains after casting (like a "focus")
[ ] No special material component (generic pal4 spell comps)
[ ] No material component at all
[ ] Weapon is Holy Burst
    [ ] ... Righteous (on a +5)
    [ ] ... Righteous (on a +4)
    [ ] ... Pure Good
    [ ] Other __________

I've never tried it, partly because I couldn't be arsed running to buy the components, partly because I already have one of those weapons.

Cool spell in theory though, for those that may not have a pure good/cold iron weapon.

B - never tried it. To be honest my Pali has a few +5 weapons, Vorpal, Disrupter, and some other stuff. He casts Circle of Protection from Evil at the start of quests so there is really no need for a +5 Holy weapon with Prot Evil. Maybe I would try it if...umm...I got bored and felt like making my poor self broke.

havent tried it...because I have a weapon that is IMO better than that.

But out of curiousity I will log in and try it out so that I may speak on it from 1st hand experience.

update- logged in bought the components

immediatly I can say, they are a bit expensive.....but at 14th level expensive is relative.

Big let down is that they do not stack = big waste of space there

lastly ...and most importantly...I could not cast the spell as I am 1 fighter/ 13 pali.

If this spell is to be a "reward" for taking 14 levels of paladin I must say as it stands its underpowered.

Why = most level 14's have weapons that are better than this.
why take up 5 backpack slots for 5 castings of a spell that does what a weapons I can buy on the AH can do (minus the pro evil area)

It would truly be worth it with 1 tweak = give it the ability to slay evil on a crit with a save difficulty of 10 + spell level + charisma modifier.

what ? too powerful you say ok alternative = Smite evil effect identical to the paladins abilility on a crit.

either 1 of those changes would make it worth it to be a 14th level paladin and to keep 2-3 components (non-stacking) in your backpack

My only question is whats the duration of the spell...I think I heard it was permanent/ till u leave the dungeon. If this is the case then either tweak that I have put forth would require the spell to have a timer....maybe 10-15 secs per level

    would still be worth it.

C., i tried it but found it to be kinda of useless, and more trouble then helpful, decent spell for people who dont play alot though

    Similar answers as above.

I will add that Deathward is a better spell for most of the high end quests.

I may use it when the new LotD series comes out because of the damage my "good" weapons will get. Will wait and see.

Yes I tried, it was mostly useless to me. The components don't stack, and i can't cast in PvP, (not that there are evil Pc's but none-the-less). So no, I don't use, Deathward is much more usefull
