Default A way to end plat farming, Increase your bank account and turbines profits

Most people agree that plat farmers are a problem. Now here's my solution.

First of all the idea of selling DDO loot and making real money playing DDO is a great one, but due to currency value on a global scale we have plat farming going on in Asia which has destroyed that market.

    Ideas

Set up a real Turbine Sanctioned Trade wed site where players from north amerce and Europe could trade real money for equipment. With turbine take a legal commission. Great for players who need to make some money great for players with money who want to save time and great for Turbine profit. Everyone wins and Plat farmers R out.
Asian players could only do commerce with other Asian players.

If players could make real money playing the game new gamers would come to DDO increasing game play and account profit plus commission profit for turbine. Who in turn would increase game play for games to attract more gamers...........nice snow ball effect.

    [Flaming Tarball]

    Back up plan

    The auction.

First if an item is put to auction with a starting price of base value and no ones bids on this item there need to be a pentitly for that items poster.
Plat farmers put an item up for a Gross start price and a gross buy price for 3 days and no one buys it. Then they repeat and do it again until some buy from a plat farm and pays the price which in turn hurts the value of all real players coin.

People with lots of real money buy lots of plat and then go to the auction house for buy out good. But they may have lots of plat and real money but what we all have in life is the same amount of time. If there was no buy out price people with lots of plat that they bought from a farmer would have to spend there time biding and then at the end it would be the luck of the draw with whoever got the bid in at the end. This would make thing more difficult for Plat Farming supporters because they would have to use there time and there money.

I see plat farmers biding and buying on the action and then fliping the same item for a starting price of double what they paid for it with a much greater buy out price. No buyout price would hurt this action also.

No starting price. Guys lets be honest when something hits the auction with an uber item it makes it up to a real price fast. I saw mith +5 full plate go up and it was up to 2000000 PP in the first day. If it’s worth it, the price goes up fast and there is no need for a starting price.

Now some pure kid in china that sits at the action house all day long and buys and sells stuff to make $1.40 cash for extra rice that night is just wrong. These people R also taking away from the game due to there only intent is to make plat and not play the game hurt real players trying to use the auction house to improve there equment and have a true market place for trading.

Yes... spending real-life money to get electronic data as equipment would help this game.
In fact, why doesn't Turbine stop making us gain experience at all? Can't they just sell capped cookie-cutter builds to whomever wants them?

    No. Just no.
If Turbine ever allows the sale of equipment we will be faced by an onslaught of cookie-cutter kiddies well equipped but largely unskilled whose only reason for having the equipment is that mommy got it for him for his birthday.
If Turbine *ever dares* to do this....
I can easily say that a large portion of the playerbase will cancel. Selling success and achievement is not to looked upon lightly, and I suggest you rethink the idea.

No. The last thing we need is for the US to start getting the IRS involved. Because if a person made most of their money off this game, guess what. Taxable.

Then we'll be starting in on the whole online gambling issues

Second life may end up having issues enough as is with their linden dollars. We already have one guy sueing them because of "property theft" as it were. You would be opening up the same doors here should you use real money for fictional items.

And this is only using the U.S. laws as a beginning bases. Turbine would then have to contend with E.U. laws and then Asian countries laws... it would become one big huge legal mess that I'd rather them ignore and put that effort into content and bug fixing.

The day DDO opens up a server like that, is the day I delete all my characters...torch the CD, and quit DDO for good.

Plat farming is bad for the game. So, not just no, hell no.

i see what you're trying to accomplish here osirisisis but, alas - it would be a bad idea in the end (for the previously posted reasons)

if something like that were a viable option, you would see WoW, EQ2, Lineage 2, etc etc already doing it.

I think I understand what the OP is trying to say, but it was very difficult to follow. Taking out the distasteful comments towards Asians, I think he/she is saying that getting rid of plat farmers is as simple as Turbine running an item and plat trading website. All this would accomplish is introducing more and more plat into an already fat economy as well as an influx of more uber loot. The only thing I can see this doing is making the game too easy and thus losing more players due to boredom. This is not a very wise idea IMHO. The reason why not as many people buy plat from plat farmers is not the cost, it is because getting caught means your account is banned. If it became legal to do, a lot more plat would be in play. More plat means higher prices in the AH and/or eliminating the good items from sale due to the plat price cap. This is not even touching the legal issues already put forth in another's reponse.

There's tons of otherwise "free" games that do it too- and the only way you can get the best stuff EVER is by purchasing it. It really sucks, and the games are generally of poor quality anyway.

Negative. It is real-life cash. Sony just acts as the moderator, in a sense, to prevent scams.

Distasteful as the comments may be they are true for the most part. Almost all of the plat farmin is done in China, and most of them DO speak broken, if any, english. Maybe the op shoulda have said the Plat farming people in china. That would have been more descriptive and less offensive to your sensibilities i suspect

Absolutely no. Too many people complain about spending $15/mo. as it is - can you imagine the unholy uproar that would follow if real-money item sales became allowed? I think this game is a freaking BARGAIN at $15/mo. and I enjoy the daylights out of it, but I would seriously consider cancelling if this kind of thing were implemented. That's right, me, Fanboi #2, I would consider cancelling.

I would cancel. I cancelled EQ2 when they opened the exchange server.

The "problem" is that currently it is a violation of Turbine policy to sell items or gold for real life cash. Legalizing the sale would not only be foolish, but it would lead to widespread use and probably more spam. You think getting /tells from plat farmers is bad? What about when 30 people open LFM messages advertising their great deals on items for that server? Where does it end?

The only issue is that posting a derrogatory ethnic comment is against the forum code of conduct. There are plenty of non-inflamatory ways to communicate. Considering how poorly written the original post is, it is rather ironic to be derrogatory towards others who do not speak English as a primary language.

People already use it to advertise their own personal item trades as is. Last thing I want to see is:

"Best Prices on the web for DDO Plat! Enter this promo code 4H6JJK12 and recieve a discount!"

The tells are bad enough as is.
