I somehow hope this retroactive change makes it to live since everyone could easily see this is not WAI and a bug/exploit.
Now we only need such retroactive changes for items which got improved after several updates or at least a standard recipe for the stone of changes which updates an item to the newest possible version. I know these recipes exist for some items but not for everything.
To the stone itself, I also think they wanted to make sure that iconics can level with other players if they buy such a stone so they needed to make sure exp boost don't apply. But yeah... 4k TP that's 40 bucks... for that money you can pay 3-4 months VIP, buy a brand new computer game or whatever. I don't understand people paying that much for them anyways, but I can understand that people with a good job and only few time to play ddo would buy that, probably would do the same in this situation. But I still think for this amount of money you should get at least a whole past life.
The current versions bypass the levels I like most in a TR so I save much time but bypass the content I like most in a TR... and paying 40bucks for that doesn't make the deal look any better for me.
Example: Pots, Ship buffs, Voice, etc...
The clear P2W XP boost that allowed slackers to go from 8 to 18 with XP pots, VOM, ship buffs was obviously a glitch.
So now it's fixed in this latest incarnation, people are crying about it? Unbelievable.
If you have XP banked for level 9, do you lose this when you activate the stone or keep it?
Apologies if that's a dumb question...
If they have ****ed with my rings that will probably be enough for me to quit the game.
I spent a lot of time farming for the ones I have.
For DDO to spend any time retoractively changing these precious items will probably put me over the edge.
Will have to see if I can transfer a lowbie over to Lama and check.
We spent too many hours farming the chain for these rings, the complainers are the ones that couldnt be bothered to run it.
The rings also have a hardness of 6 or something so they require constant repair, most dont have +6 as many are in the 4-5 range with some other random useless effect.
Did DDO adjust the hardness on them when they raised the level.. probably not, and now likely made them less usefull than crafted rings, so all they would have done is turn these into vendor trash
Why they bothered to retroactively change something that they had already fixed that only a few old school players had earned fairly and I do mean fairly since it took many many hours to run the chain at a random chance of for these hard to get rings.
So yeah they should have just left them alone those that earned them earned them for what they are.
The +4 stat potions are all available at level 1 and anyone can buy these at the local vendor.
Haste at level 1 is OP and invalidates expedious retreat at low level.
There are people out there with min level 8 Greensteels before thye got changed to min level 12, I am jelous when I see them, but they earned them and they deserve them.. is DDO gonna screw them over now too?..
Every Guild buff is OP.. are they going change this too.
When they changed the chain end reward they effectively killed the quest chain since no one bothered running the chains more than once after that.
Those that have them deserve them.
It will be tough to lose those, but on the other hand it was never working as intended so no big deal. I can make a +4 stat item by level 5 and it's not like the content from levels 1-8 is that hard that I can't complete the quests without the ring.
I mainly used the str +6 ring so my casters could go melee @ low levels since spell casting is subpar at the lower levels. It was nice while it lasted.
I do agree that the named end rewards for the chain aren't that good, even when they first came out. the biggest draw was the +6 rings. after that change popularity went way down. devs should have changed those from the very beginning. why they are doing it now, I don't know. trying to finish what they started I guess? earning them fairly with many many hours invested doesn't make it right for level 1 characters to continue using them though. it would be nice if the devs fixed their mistakes sooner rather than later to avoid situations like this.
Really.., does it create that much of a divide between those that have the rings and those that dont?
+4 stat pots can be used for those that need them..
it was a convenience perk item
It is frustrating to see DDO put effort into this with all the other things that still dont work proeprly like Ladder Lag and Stuck spots that bug reports have been repeatedly put in for and are still not resolved. Instead all we get with those is excuses on how each ladder is unique and was custom programmed... seriously... if thats the case then all the ladders need to be recoded..
A lack of effort put into new quests and chains with the updates.. its all about paid expansions now... no wonder population count is down.
Here's the thing, the no ML (ML0) rings are not the ONLY items that have been changed over on Lamannia.
Other 100% LEGAL items have been altered in Lamannia.
ML0 +2 Stat items from the Sharn Syndicate series now have a ML of 3 (same as other +2 random stat items) only they are BTA items. Which only seems to mean they can't get permanently destroyed these days. So Turbine has changed them to meet other item ML requirements.
What's so overpowered or non legal about those that they needed to be changed to meet other items available?
What I want to know, is why my original Skiver has NOT been updated to the new one? Why must I regrind it again?
:: edit ::
Some rare, but possible to drop from Sharn Syndicate items were also ML0 Heroism Clickies, even ML0 Haste clickies (x1 charge), but they've all been altered. Now ML5. And an ultra rare Divine Power clickie as well.
I'd say Turbine single-handed destroyed one of their own packs now: The Sharn Syndicate. Which is a shame, since it's a good quest chain that can help new players learn about the dangers of traps and protection quest lines, whilst also giving some loot that would otherwise be impossible to get. A nice perk that set the entire pack apart from anything else. But alas...
changes in named gear that made them into a better upgrade has been puzzling for us for a long time. same thing with Reaver and Abbot loot happened too. all I can think of is coding, but they change the coding on gear all the time so I don't get it either. it sucks having to regrind the same gear you already invested a lot of time getting.
It's like they're trying to ensure no one ever wants to TR again. The rings were a nice perk for players who ground out some to use through multiple lives; they're really only valuable through level 7 or maybe 9. Messing up the sharn end loot is even more mind boggling.
What a waste of time to do nothing but generate ill will in their players. Very demotivating.
