Wrong. One instance my guild and I did, we used this method. We wound up spending about 45min trying to get to the beginning area before giving up and burning a DD scroll.

I was doing this quest for few times ( easy xp for 30-40 mins run) and possible drop of named items.
Many ppl know that after mod 5 some water rooms bugged.

? means that this way is bugged
I usually leave water rooms for the last when all mobs dead so they cannot kill you if you bugged.
Green water and Blue water rooms seems very bugged in this variant. You can still get away with DD or using west for green ( east for blue) exits few times.

This usually works, sometimes you get stuck in an endless loop though.

If you get stuck in a loop, go back to the entrance, pick a different door, and repeat.

Also, you should not have had to use a DD scroll, as whomever talked to the dying lady got a trinket with 3 charged of DD on it. Unless said person left the quest for whatever reason, that is.

To get to the end room (the lever hall), I go east from the main room, and make a right in each room. It gets me there fast enough; I think last time I ran it we had all 4 of each gear before he hit his 3rd insult, or something. It's been awhile :p.

First, you can go into any door, it doesn't seem to matter. Run in and back out from the same entry multiple times. It will take you to the room you need eventually.

Second, if you bug in a water room, just keep going back the way you came in, repeatedly, and you will dump back out into the main room.

Third, you need 8 gears to unlock Nerezza, the boss, but you will need an additional 4 gears to unlock the named item chest. That makes a total of 12 gears, 3 of each color.

Fourth, the banner may be difficult to see from some of the rooms, especially the pyramid rooms, but it is recessed into one of the entries so you have to investigate each doorway until you find it. Once you find it, it's pretty much a straight shot.

Good Luck,

Deadrick

hey guys! how's everyone doing? =)

i did this quest without following a logic path.

First Step: Get all those colored gears;
Second Step: Go back and forth on one door until you see an ethereal flag behind you. When you see it, go through that door and you'll be on the last room.

worked for me.

I just keep going backward through the exits until I start repeating, then I change direction. I go backward again until I repeat, and then change direction again. I continue this until I get to where I want to go.

Just make sure to check all the exits for the banner, whenever you get a gear.

A guildie of mine has a spreadsheet and is able to complete in 13 minutes. Its nice xp, we all sit at the entrance, go afk to have a beer or whatever while the sorc solos and come back to collect our xp and chests.

Shadow Crypt Walkthrough for XP Farming

A buddy came up with this a while ago, and it has helped me a lot in farming shadow crypt for xp. I figured I'd share it with you all as he shared it with me.

By following this walkthrough you will not get the extra gear set for the extra chest. But if you are just farming this for XP this is by far the fastest way I have found to do so. There are three possible paths to take using this method. To find which path you are on, go North. Which room you appear in determines which path you are on.

Red Maze = Path 1
Main Room = Path 2
Green Water = Path 3

Path 1

1. North to Red maze.
2. South to Blue attic.
3. East to Red water.
4. South to Yellow pyramid.
5. West to Green Fountains.
6. North to Blue Pyramid.
7. West to Main Room.
8. East to Green Attic.
9. Ddoor
10. West to Blue Attic
11. North to Green Maze (dont need gear for completion).
12. North to Yellow Water
13. West to lever room.

Path 2

1. East to Red Attic.
2. North to Blue Attic.
3. East to Yellow Fountain.
4. North to Yellow Maze.
5. Ddoor.
6. West to Green Attic.
7. East to Green Pyramid.
8. South to Blue Maze.
9. East to Red Pyramid.
10. West to lever room.

Path 3

For this path you can either follow the second half (steps 7-10) and ddoor to clear the first half, or ddoor after you figure out you are in the green water, and follow the steps in order.

1. West to Yellow Water.
2. North to Yellow Attic.
3. East to Main Room.
4. East to Blue Fountain.
5. East to Red Pyramid
6. Ddoor.
7. North to Green Water.
8. West to Blue Maze.
9. East to Red Attic.
10. East to Green Fountain.
11. East to lever room.

I believe its right, but i had to recopy from the image I had. If you find any mistakes let me know and I will fix em, but this is by far the fastest way I have found to complete Shadow Crypt, and turn out thousands of xp/hour.

Just be warned that there is a 50% chance that this won't work. The chest in the green maze is randomly situated in one of the four corners and this maze only allows you to travel through half of it. If you can't access the chest from the half of the green maze you enter from you need to find either a different way to the green maze or seek out the other green room.

Correct. I forgot about that since it really doesnt come up that often. First you have to be on that map, then you have to have it come up in a corner you cant reach. When i run into this problem I usually just keep backing through rooms till i find another green one, ddoor, and then run through the map again, it usually costs two to three minutes at most.

Thanks for reminding me of that. :)

Well, being Quikster showed his favored way through the Shadow Crypt in minimal moves, I'll show my favored way through to get all the gear in a way that does a low amount of room revisits but travels through the central room a few times (as sometimes folks in a true PUG get lost or need a pit stop).

A key for what I call rooms:

Gate - A room with many gates in it to produce a maze.
Alter - A room that contains phase spiders and rises upwards. Often called "pyramid" by others.
Pillar - A room that contains many umbral gargoyles and pillars.
Torch - A room that has 4 torches and a mix of critters.
Water - A room that has swimming due to water.
Center - The first room you visit.
End - The sloped ramp with colored levers that leads up to the final fights.

Path One
Follow this path if going north puts you back into the central room.

Center - North
Center - South
Yellow Gate - East
Yellow Alter - South
Blue Pillar - East
Yellow Torch - South
Blue Water - East
Center - West
Green Pillar - East
Green Alter - North

*If you have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - North
Red Pillar - South
Red Water - East
Center - East

*If you do not have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - Dimension Door
Center - West
Green Pillar - North
Green Gate - Dimension Door
Center - East
Red Pillar - South
Red Water - North

*Both tracks lead back here to finish*

Red Pillar - East
Blue Gate - East
Red Alter - West
End

Path Two
Follow this path if going north puts you in the red gate room.

Center - North
Red Gate - West
Red Water - North
Red Torch - North
Green Torch - East
Yellow Torch - West
Center - South
Red Torch - West
Yellow Alter - North
Blue Gate - West

Blue Pillar - West
Green Pillar - East

*If you have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - South
Blue Alter - South

*If you do not have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - Dimension Door to Center
Center - West
Blue Pillar - North
Green Gate - North

*Both tracks lead back here to finish*

Yellow Water - West
End

Path Three
Follow this path if going north puts you in the green water room.

Center - North
Green Water - West
Blue Gate - East
Red Pillar - South
Yellow Gate - South
Center - South
Red Torch - North
Green Alter - West

btw - torch rooms. Look above the gates and you'll see water pouring from spouts above the gates. They have water coming from one, two, or none of the spouts (think of it as binary). Hit the torches in front of the gates in the following order 01, 10, 11

This is a great thread. In my two TR, I've ran it for many times with guildies and we used to split team and try to kill more optional until we get enough color gears. I've put up my guide at:
http://www.ddoer.com/guide/quest/shadow-crypt
- it also provide a more detailed version of the first random set

basically, my way is:

I'll go east first to check which random set it is, and provide a path from the main to the lever room
everyone split up and do killing and loot gears
when we got enough gears, we try to get back to the main room and follow the shortest path to go to the lever room

It usually take 8-10 mins for every run. I suppose the min move method will take less time, but i presume my method will give more xp per min for the kill count bonus and optional bonus.

It should be noted that no matter which path is active, going east 3 times from the center room will always lead to the banner room that leads to the end, in my experience.

I'll agree to change it if you get a screenshot with you facing the red altar room's banner from the central platform so I can see the direction you face on your minimap. :)

All of my old maps and drawn routes point the banner being hung in the west of the room. While I do admit that I make mistakes (and several even baffle me how I can be so dumbfounded at times) I can't find enough evidence to suggest that the banner goes on the eastern part of that room.

That works for 2 of the 3 maps. The one with the banner hung in the Yellow Water room's western side will not get you there from the center going east 3 times (which has a quick way to the banner room from the center going south then east).

Maybe I'm making stupid mistake, but when you're on path 3 the first room is green water, but you're saying go west to yellow water. Going west takes you to step 8 blue maze. You can then follow the guide from step 8. Realizing that going west from Main Room takes you to step 1, Yellow Water.

Totally awesome guide. I was able to do the quest in 20 minutes duoing with my brother. Thanks a lot!!

Ive only had 1 cup of coffee so excuse me if i misunderstand.

Going north first (or sending a spotter) allows you to figure which path your on. So if you go north from the main room on path three you should end up in Green water. At that point you can ddoor back to the main room and go west from the main room to Yellow water, or you can get the gear in green water and continue to step 8 and so on, ddooring back to the beginning after step 10, then doing steps 1-6. Once you have collected all the gears you can follow steps 7-11 to finish. Basically once you know which of these three paths you are on you can follow it in any order (with the one excetion Mr Cow pointed out, you may need to find a different gear there)

Green Pillar - North
Green Gate - Dimension Door
Center - East
Red Pillar - South
Red Water - North

*Both tracks lead back here to finish*

Red Pillar - East
Blue Gate - East
Red Alter - West

Your path ONE has a slight mistake, I noticed on a run earlier today, here is the corrected version.

Center - North
Center - South
Yellow Gate - East
Yellow Alter - South
Blue Pillar - East
Yellow Torch - South
Blue Water - East
Center - West
Green Pillar - East
Green Alter - North

*If you have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - Dimension Door

*If you do not have access to the chest in Green gate, do the following*

Green Gate - Dimension Door
Center - West
Green Pillar - North
Green Gate - Dimension Door

*Both tracks lead back here to finish*

Center - East
Red Pillar - South
Red Water - North
Red Pillar - East
Blue Gate - East
Red Alter - West
End

The problem was that if you have access to the Green Gear, you dont "always" have the ability to leave that room from the north. Otherwise, love your paths, been using them to farm XP here a lot:D

after u run shadow crypt, you have to run the 4 flagging quests again before you can repeat shadow crypt?
is this the only non-raid quest chain with flagging quests that have to be repeated?

The Bloody Crypt and The Abandoned Excavation (aka, Threnal South) require repeats of the previous quests and are not raids.

Follow the banners.
Last run I did of this, I didn't notice any banners until I was 2 rooms from the end. I had thought all the banners hung sort of inside a doorway, but I couldn't find any. Where are they if not obviously visible?

For the map, this post here : http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2827658&postcount=10 will give you the 3 configurations, just take an exit on the first room, check where you are and see if you are on the top tier, middle tier or lower tier map, then choose your path accordingly.

As for repetition, you have to redo the whole serie to repeat with necro 2. But, if one on your friend doesn't mind wiating, he just group with you to get you inside and don't get in before you get the manual. Then he comes and loot the chests so he also has a chance to the named loot.
Rince and repeat.
When someone is satisfied, he can exchange his role as opener (by redoing once the series)...
