I'm almost level 6.

Not once have I got a long sword drop for my cleric. I am still using my starter sword.

I've had at least 5 bastard swords, one vorpal...

Is this just random?

Thanks

Clerics use Simple weapons, so the rewards are biased towards them. It's still pretty random, and ignores deity-favoured weapons or enhancement-granted weapons.

So I guess my only option is to buy at the auction house?

There's an option in the Gameplay section of the options page that says something like "quest end rewards based on class?" If you turn this off, you get random stuff instead of your class loots.

I'm naming my next born (cat) after you :)

Since when are "Bastard Swords" simple weapons?

Why is he getting "Bastard Swords" in his end reward lists if he's a Cleric and has end rewards by class switched on?

clicking that option will have little to no effect. my human cleric (with that option enabled) continues to pull an annoying large number or bastard swords and dwarven axes. Even after 20+ lives...

Just completed the entire catecombs... not a single long sword

final reward.... a dagger of Inquisition, seems every bound reward is a dagger.

I did craft my own +1 long sword. woo.

There actually is a long sword (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Blade_of_Inquisition) in that chain, but it's random if it shows up on the end reward list or not.

There's a nice longsword (and heavy mace) that drops out of the Sharn Syndicate pack, if you have access to it.
They just revamped that loot and made it even nicer. You're even in the level range for the chain.
Probably 6 items drop out of there you could use, but here's the teaser:

If I'm (relatively) new to a server and I can't pull a good weapon for my build via quest end rewards; I buy it from the auction house. The plat AH is a great place to fill gaps in your gearset (even weapons), and it's also a good place to make plat on a new character (post up the random loot that you don't need).

If I've been playing on the server for a while; I'll look at the named items available of the weapon type I want to use and farm some of them; and if I can't find a good one I'll cannith craft a weapon or two.

For longswords; I know that at level 8 I can use a sword with an actually good critical profile (compared with other longswords), which is both easy to farm and guarenteed loot. However it comes from a level 12 quest, so I can only get the sword at level 9. This sword is the Nightforge Avenger Blade. Once I have this, I typically don't worry about getting another longsword until I'm level 20 and can use the Oathblade (again guaranteed to get it if you know where to go; but it's slightly harder to farm).

Quest end rewards based on class checkbox only affects quest end rewards from NPCs. Chest loot is not affected (at least I haven't noticed the difference). And it makes sense for chests to not know of your class and determine its contents based n it. NPC can know that you are certain class and give you a reward that fits you.

Cleric's favored wepon is a nice example of a feat that SHOULD be taken into account when determining quest end rewards based on class. Weapon focus feats should also have impact on the rewards.

wow they really did upgrade them! I will go look what other items are there, although I will probably be doing a couple of iconic lives next.

Bit late but my favorite lowbie longsword is the Blade of Inquisition. It drops as an end reward from the catacombs chain.

i had the class reward disabled for ages because most times you get stuff under your lvl or for that class when you're gonna tr in a quite different thing

my experience so far is i got really nice things for my/other builds, so maybe widening the range gives better stuff than focusing in your class

i doubt game checks your build, so what happens on multiclass? and on staff wielding barbs?

XD

My own anecdotal experience says it's based on the class with the most levels. But regardless of that I see way too many bastard swords, dwarven axes, and docents. I have a guildie that went artie melee wf because of these drops (before the pass).

Every 3rd completion of catacombs gives complete named item list on end reward according to wiki. So OP you can get your sword if you really want it.

Swords are cool & all, but the Sharn mace still looks awesomest. :)

It would be even awesomer(?) if it could be mirrored with the force aura intact... or maybe they could just add force to weapon aura choices.

soon you can run Relic of A Sovereign Past (http://ddowiki.com/page/A_Relic_of_a_Sovereign_Past) on casual--don't bother completing--just collect ore and turn in to get this (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Nightforge_Avenger_Blade)blade that has an increased threat range, adamantine. This is one of the best heroic longswords in the game and breaks some DR.
If you look at this page here (http://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Long_Swords), you are near the level range of some other really nice ones too like Retribution. How are your cannith crafting skills?

This one is nicely BTA, I slotted it with a Ruby of the Vampire Slayer for silver DR and used it on and off through till about 18th level.
