View Full Version : Whirlwind Fighter - need you to destroy my build!!!

The build is very rough, so I expect some healthy and helpful criticism especially since this kind of build is a bit out of my element. Not sure yet whether I care if this is endgame viable, however any advice on how to do that would be helpful. Mostly, I want to make sure I don’t get very frustrated later on and I didn’t include past level 20 because I’m not sure where to go with it at that point.
Ok, so here’s the concept and some questions:

1) Cleaves! Both pally cleaves instead of the feats, whirlwind attack (also adds some added dodge defense through prereqs), wizard cleave
2) Tier five kotc
3) SWF khopesh (so 7 balance is necessary)
4) Human for extra feat and skill point. Not sure, other than warforged what other race would work well. I didn’t go warforged because that basically a loss of 2 feats, and I think this build needs them.
5) 5 levels of pally (would 6 be worth it for remove disease and improved slayer of evil/ghost touch at the cost of a fighter feat or only lev 2 wiz?)
6) I could go know the angles as its cheaper than divine might, though charisma will be higher
7) Is holy retribution worth it with such a low pally level?
8) 3 wizard for cleave (as mentioned), quicken spell, and some EK perks, probably not using low level wiz spells but lev three is for spellsword bonus to cleave and arcane barrier
9) The character is more dps oriented aoe, so should I even bother with intimidate, if not I could max concentration, drop quicken and go sorcerer instead of wizard for some extra SP?
10) Spellcraft skill for improved EK cleave damage
11) Harper for extra melee and spell power (would more of an investment in kensai be preferred?)
12) I haven’t added equipment or tomes to this yet (any recommendations?)

Thanks for your help. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the current state of whirlwind attack. Also, I know my join date goes way back, but I'm one of those off and on casual types. Any thoughts?

You know with rogue acrobat you would also have another AOE attack, and if you have high bluff and improved feint you can get sneak attacks on everyone. Though you would have to ditch fighter...thing is improved feint also uses combat expertise as a pre-req.

So like...Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind, Improved Critical Bludgeon, Improved Feint, Improved Trip.

Yeah its nothing like what you are shooting for now, but its something you might in the same feel of things when you pursue rogue life.

You would be dizzy to watch to be sure. (but I would go only 4 Paladin, and 13 rogue keeping the 3 wizard)

In epics I would try to get your tactical feats up through other feats, twists, and enhancements in order to get the trip attack up to par being you would be a multi-classed rogue and not pure.

You get bonuses for trip anyway in acrobat, enough bonuses that with the right equipment and improved trip you can get a higher DC on your single target trip attempts, more so if you go the same route as I said before and focus on tactical late game. Just keep in mind you need strength boosters to buff it.

So not only ultra-cleave, but sweeps too...

That's something I haven't considered, and I like staff builds. It would definitely be an interesting way to go and a fun alternative to this build. The rogue AOE trips everything it hits, correct? So you could conceivably trip a group of mobs, and hit them with exalted, EK, and WW. Ouch.

I also saw someone else with a 15 pal, 3 wiz, 2 fighter (2hf if I remember correctly).

I actually tried to fit in trip or stunning blow, but couldn't seem to make it work without losing too much of the flavor I'm going for. If anyone as any thoughts on that, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply.

I think you're losing to much dropping Kensei as a main tree, which is uber-powerful atm. The abilities all doublestrike or proc offhand now. However, the big thing is you losing out on damage, crit range and multiplier, and +20 melee power for a cleave. You go as planned and take WWA, the base pally cleave, and the wizard cleave and be as successful with the rotations. Also, how are you going to make use of the dodge from the spring attack line if you go heavy armor? You'll end up with 7% dodge and a 2% increase to cap from mobility. If you have SDK past lives, that's 10%. Heavy Armor is going to cap you somewhere between 4-8% depending on armor and MDB.
