View Full Version : Crossbowman - Art/Rgr/Rog?

Hello guys,
I am about to make my 5th life and it will be repeating crossbowman. I was thinking about 1 lvl arti for rapid reload, and repeating crossbow proficiency and at least 6 lvls ranger for sniper shot, paralyzing arrows and arrow of slaying. Harper agent's strategic combat I and II would give me possibility to use Int for dmg and hit. IIm not sure what would be the best to chose for last 12 lvls. I was thinking another 5 ranger for improved precise shot and 7 lvl rogue for 4 sneak dices. Race which i am thinking of is halfling because it gives more sneak dices and +3 to saves. I am sending my build, could you judge how strong it would be and what would improve it?

I'm running a similar build - going towards 11 Ranger, 6 Rogue, 3 Arti. I started with Rogue for more skill points and went with 3 Arti so I can add Elemental Weapons (extra d6 that stacks with Arcane archer damage). I wanted 11 Ranger for Improved Precise Shot and also allows me to cast Wild Instincts for +10 spot - level 12 Ranger would give me an extra level 3 spell but i'd prefer to have the Elemental Weapons.

Right now I am L16: Ranger 7, Rogue 6 and 3 Arti. I'm on Ghallanda and it is going great so far! Putting out a ton of damage in a short amount of time - just added Arrow of Slaying L5 AA enhancement and that adds 750 damage every 20 seconds!! (yes every bolt in my repeater gets the extra 250 and it frequently crits for 500 / bolt)

but even without the Arrow of Slaying, I'm doing about 150+ per bolt. I'm using a GS Lit II repeater (+5, holy, shock burst, Lightning), have Hand of the Tombs rune arm (extra d6 fire),i used Flame arrows (another d6), elemental weapon (i use acid or ice, flame wont stack with flame arrow), and i took Ranger Elemental Arrows L1=shock and L2-->L5 are Elemental Damage for an additional d6+6W of acid damage (rather than taking the various types of Elemental Arrows). Plus I have that +1 force ritual, +6 deadly necklace, 2 previous lives as Ranger (+4 range dmg) and a BloodStone. Also Fletching Mechanic enhancement for +10 Ranged Power and 80% return (the 50 bolts from one use of Flame Arrow wand last a long time!)

Also included is Rogue Mechanic Sharpshooter, 4 levels - I opted to go with L4 Mechanic and L5 Arcane Archer because i already have a quiver of Alacrity and liked the extra 2W damage in Archer compared to the L5 Mechanic enhancements (though the +10 ranged power in Mechanic L5 is nice, i'll probably swap those enhancements around a bit but for now I'm going with L5 AA enhancements)

So it shoots fast and damage stacks up quick! Only drawback is I need better AC due to aggro :)

My current build is 7rgr/2arti/2rog. Enhancements i currently use are: 16 AA (Dispelling Shot which is very useful against casters using blur/displacement/stone skin, Infernal Shot for additional fire dmg and Terror Arrow. which is a great toggle and i strongly recomend using it. Not only gives crowd control which solves aggro problem but also instant kill on vorpal) 11 DWS (for Sniper Shot and additional 3sneak dices) 12 HA (int to hit and dmg). Build is very strong, I will grab Arrow of Slaying after i hit 12. I am curious which feats did you take? I went 1 - Point Blank Shot, 3 - Insightful Reflex, 6 - Resilience (I find saves very important on this build considering you are a glass cannon and cc = dead), 9 - Improved Crit : Ranged. On 12 i will propably grab +2 will save for additional resistance against crowd control. May I also know which Epic Destiny you plan to take?

I don't get how you can get AA elemental arrows to work with repeaters?

They're bugged: equip a bow & arrows to activate the imbue; switch to xbow (or thrown weapon) and the imbue lingers. With the higher rate of fire on repeaters or a shuriken build vs bows, they actually add more DPS than to a regular AA.

Confirmed as not WAI ages ago, but hey: as with all such bugs, enjoy it until it gets patched... :rolleyes:
