UPDATE: Ghallanda has reopened.

Ghallanda is currently unavailable. We will keep you updated. Please know that this is frustrating to us as well, and we continue to work to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

the advantage of ddo responding quickly, is that people then don't read our ranting on previous threads for this downtime. we started making our views felt at 17.43

We found the real victim, so sorry cordovan, what can we do to make this right? Pack of slackers.

Cordo,

We're losing guildies and friends to transfers or just from the game entirely. Especially all the people who came from the EU servers and have their main play time during Ghallandown time. While a free Ottos box per account would help to assuage some feelings, I'd really like to hear Severlin's take on pushing up the move of the servers to a new farm and a new Ghallanda server. Cuz the one your on is cursed beyond any IT metric of maintenance/fixing.

Though Ghallanda has served us many years. I think you should take the current server out on a dinner... you know to one of those nice open restuarants... next to a field...

To save yourself some time and forum space you could always just make a undated thread and make it a sticky. That way you can track all the time it is down easier, rather then have players point out every time it goes down with an updated list of crashes.

if there is some malicious intent to the server going down so often, please publish the name and contact details of the clown who is doing this. I'm sure that there are enough players out there who earn lots of cash and can afford to fly/drive/bus to their house and explain in rational, reasonable tones, why we are unhappy with the perpetrator. we will be able to ask them to play by the rules and allow us all the game play we so richly deserve.

failing that, the supplier of this service should unleash their scary, highly paid legal staff and metaphorically crucify* one of these jokers as an example

Kindly, stop just being sorry and instead hand out some really heavy stuff to actually show you are sorry. That you need to fix the issue goes without saying - that you are doing nothing to calm the waters after umpteen crashes in a short time is bad manners.

I much prefer to play, rather than lay down this type of vitriolic diatribe, by the way.

First of all, props to Cordovan for being upfront and quickly posting about the server being down.

The server being down again.

I echo the sentiments of others that people are leaving the game because of this. I would really like to see some plan for merging servers, or transferring characters and guilds OR SOMETHING being addressed for this continued problem.

The server down issue was already an Epic fail by Turbine. Now it is just pathetic.

Cuz the one your on is cursed beyond any IT metric of maintenance/fixing.

Since reported data center move also includes LOTRO [who is merging servers as well], I think it will be very unlikely that they have the ability to move up the data center move. Especially since LOTRO is doing work that will allow people to choose which server they move to prior to the them getting merged [Thus whole guilds can choose which server to move to and not just get lumped like they did in DDO in 2007].

I think they are also avoiding buying new server at all costs as well, since this is probably part of the plan of moving the servers in the future. I'm sure they will try and tape and glue this server together until the move this fall. Investing in a new server, only to move to new hardware again in the fall [if that is what they do], probably makes the bean counters at Turbine cringe.

That being said the players of Ghallanda need something, perhaps a 20% xp bonus for 2 weeks along with 250 Turbine Points would be a good start. As for Otto's Boxes? They = about $50, so unless Ghallanda goes down for 6 months straight... well we would have bigger issues then.

I haven't played on Gallandra for a long time, so I don't have a vested interest in this on a personal level.

But, on a game-pride level - I really think it's time for Turbine to start showing Gallandra players some apology and reconciliations, and not just thanking them for their patience. Lord knows the players on that server have earned some hazard pay. You might not be able to stop the crashes, Turbine, but you can demonstrate your empathy and appriciation in a bit more concrete manner then just apologies that are starting to sound a wee-bit hollow.

I sent Severlin this in a PM

Hello I see that you are a Executive Producer for Turbine/DDO and I hope you are aware of the problems with the Ghallanda server...? I have played ddo and lotro which are both run by Turbine for many years even beta testing lotro all those years ago with some good times. I can however say that in all my years of playing MMO's this is by far the worst experience I have ever come across with the server going down so often its like we are stress testing it to see how much the server can take before it crashes and not even a hint of what the problem is or was! I've worked in customer service and I can safely say that Turbine ranks as one of the worst I have ever come across sitting in silence will not help because some of us won't go away and want answers meanwhile the game must be haemorrhaging players more so on Ghallanda because of the shocking service to quote (It is Inconceivable). If your not going to or can't fix the server then at least give us the option of a free transfer or free vip game time for those that don't want to move until you decide what to do about it. If you Mr Executive Producer are not able to get this sorted that get someone who can otherwise why do you have Executive in your title?

It's sinking just how fast we sink is up to you..... Iceberg right ahead.

Lets see what sort of reply I get.

we are not patient, we are not loyal, we are not understanding.

what we are is stuck in a server where we have spent small fortunes playing this game and investing in our characters in order to get away from the hell of our mundane existences

we do not want to write off hundreds, even thousands of hours (and pounds/euro's/dollars etc) that's why we stay.

I've spent money on G-Land, real money.

I don't want to loose my Kracken. I put allot of effort into it.

It would be great if my G-Land guild can be moved to my main server Sarlona. Both servers have pay ships. I would loose allot by overlaying the kracken on top of the base pay ship on Sarlona, but so be it. I want to use my Kracken ship.

The guild has the same name on each server. The Sarlona guild is level 26 and the G-Land guild is L28. It would be great if my kracken can be moved to my Sarlona guild.

Can we have server transfer, or something, so we can play? Kyber, and now this, whats up with your servers? This is like 3rd month of noticeable problems.
If you don't want our money, just say it, instead of bloody pising about. This is a time investment game. You are making us loose the investment, so the interest in game goes down.

Seriously, I am so low on my backup reading material, I am starting to read fan fictions of wuxia novels.

Right! My guild level is 128 on Ghallanda... I have spent a LOT of effort, time, and REAL life money on this server... Perhaps merge Ghallanda with another server? As a VIP forever, I'm used to lots of downtime, and I have never complained about it... But, Turbine is hurting Ghallanda's population and player base at this time...

As for Otto's Boxes? They = about $50, so unless Ghallanda goes down for 6 months straight... well we would have bigger issues then.

Actually it's a piece of code already made, so the cost of an Otto box to Turbine is exactly $0. It won't affect future sales of Ottos boxes either, people that want them will still buy them.

agreed it would not affect sales at all on such a spotty released product.
If anything it would help future sales by showing this community turbine still cares that we care about this game.

At this point, how many G-Landers are going to buy ToEE, Warlock, or the new Epic Shroud stuff?
Not many... Keep some faith and show us some love and people will actually buy that stuff.

To speak briefly on a couple of suggestions we've seen: Yes, we are looking at some form of "sorry" bonus for Ghallanda. One concern is that we'd prefer to resolve this issue before offering a longer-term bonus, if for no other reason than putting a bonus on the server could actually increase traffic to the server, which could increase the number of people being impacted by the server's issues. That said, we agree that we're not in an ideal environment, and are talking about our options.

In regard to the suggestion that we "just move everyone to another server already": We have been investigating the issues on Ghallanda as a top priority for a while now, and so far it does not appear to be hardware-related. For example, we've completely replaced all of the server's hardware, and it's still happening. We are looking at other various possibilities, including the possibility that it could be a corrupt character's data or subset of characters' data (it's extremely rare, but has happened at least one other time I can recall.) If we were to send the population to a different server, there's no guarantee that we might not migrate the issue to a different server, or even worse, multiple servers. We're also looking at code-related things, among other avenues of investigation.

We do understand how frustrating it's been. It's been very frustrating for us as well.

Ghallanda has reopened, and we will provide more information on our investigation when we can.

I know you regular (and not so regular) forum readers rarely see me post angry rants or things of that nature, but I want to say my piece about G-Land.

We're losing guildies and friends to transfers or just from the game entirely.

<snip>

I'd really like to hear Severlin's take on pushing up the move of the servers to a new farm and a new Ghallanda server.

<snip>

I have to echo this sentiment here. Me and a small section of my guild (who plays exclusively on G-Land) have spent ample amounts of cash on things in this game both for the guild and for quality of life for the guild. But when I'm down from 32 active (most daily) accounts to about half a dozen, the few of our guildies that still play regularly (when the server is actually up) are really starting to take a good moral hit. It's very disheartening to me to have poured 90%+ of my gaming budget over the course of about 5 1/2 years on this game and now we can't even play on a stable server. I don't want to move to another server. I have a bunch of friends and good people that I play with regularly, both in the guild and not. Give guilds the option to move the entire guild to another server if a merger is not in the quasi-near future.

I would really like to see some plan for merging servers, or transferring characters and guilds OR SOMETHING being addressed for this continued problem.

^^ This. Give us something more than the cut & paste apology. Jerry, I know you have a fine line to walk when it comes to community relations, but surely someone up the food chain can authorize some sort of transparency with the issue. I'm not one that usually gets upset over things publicly here, but I'm getting close to my wits end with G-Land. I have obvious love for the game (enough to drop tons of cash over the years and operate a fan site that took several hundred hours of my time away over the course of it's 4 year existence from the game and RL things to create), but TBH, I don't want to have to start over on one of the other servers. I don't want to have to cough up even more cash to circumvent an unstable server, and I would never ask that of my guildies.

I'm on holiday and have paid for hotel internet so I can play in the evening.

I feel your pain. I took 3 vacation days from work to just decompress, most of which I had intended on catching up on sleep, housework, and squeeze in another ETR/TR. Two of those days the server was down most of the day and day 3 was ok. So 2/3 of my vacation time became dedicated to Netflix.

Wow, really sorry G-landers. I'd have to agree with others that a more detailed explanation of what's going on seems necessary considering how long this issue is lasting.

Hopefully you folks get lots of free stuff when this is over.

Added a little emphasis there. Because that's what everyone is wanting.

BLUF, can we get some more info. If the server team has no idea what the issue is, then merge us with Wayfinder. That seems like the most logical solution considering the impending datacenter move. If the problem is going to persist with no real fix in sight, compensate us on way or another.

But I'm going to stop now because I feel like I'm just...

I HOPE ya'll can get this matter under wraps in short order, even if it means WB or Turbine get other people involved from other divisions in the company that can help the DDO team resolve this urgent matter.

You have my sympathy on this. If you have corrupt data, it is going to be very hard to find. This is precisely the kind of communication you need. It won't fix the problem, but at least people are not completely in the dark about what you have tried and what you suspect. People will still be angry, but perhaps they will have a little better understanding about what you are facing.

We are looking at other various possibilities, including the possibility that it could be a corrupt character's data or subset of characters' data (it's extremely rare, but has happened at least one other time I can recall.)

just before the crash this afternoon, I spent 90 astral shards, got 6 gold rolls on daily dice, went up from 608k to over 630k and levelled up from cleric 11 to cleric 12.

then I reset my harpers enhancement in order to get the top tier of warpriest (this cost platinum).

after the re-start, I have found my astral shards are 49, not 139, my character is level 11 and my enhancements are back as they were. also, my physical location was pre-crashed session.

you could say that I am incandescent with rage

we've completely replaced all of the server's hardware, and it's still happening.

Did they do a clean install of the OS and game software when the hardware was replaced?

I created a cosmetic circlet of persuasion, which I equipped on my current character. it does not display. if I toggle the crown of victory cosmetic I created, this displays fine. the other odd thing is that at the moment, the crown of persuasion cosmetic has a blue surround to it, not a yellow. I wonder if this item is screwing up the game?

Call this phone number and ask for your shards back at least:

how much a minute is that from a mobile phone in Germany? i'm on holiday. it might cost more to call them so once again, like raising tickets, the procedure is too onerous for most of us to bother, thus increasing DDO's revenues and ripping off the customers

if I was standing in front of a customer service representative right now, I would impress upon them my dissatisfaction with the last reset.

thanks for the case closed door slammed in my face. how do you sleep at night after towing the corporate line of "sorry, we cannot refund stuff lost in a crash"?

I'm thinking they were referring to your in-game character progress.

Did you ask them about giving back the 90 Astral shards you spent on re-rolls?

yep. no refund. I cant prove, with screen shots, what I got on my 6 rolls, or that I even spent the shards

I really appreciate this response. Every time we have straight-up responses like this from you guys, it really helps.

As an I.T. guy in real life, I wouldn't trade places with you. And I suspected hardware at the start, which was why the continued crashes could only be code now. Apparently some character named "AgentSmith" is messing with our virtual reality, then. Volunteers to be Neo are welcome. Good luck; we'll be as patient as we need to be.

And stop using Internet Explorer. That's not really advice for the game servers. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)
