I'm running an Air/Fire Savant for my first attempt at high-level content. I've completely outstripped my equipment and would like to go scavenging for some new stuff, but have no idea where to start. What's the recommended gear for a newbie, and where do I find it?

Thanks in advance :)

Have you thought of Cannith Challenges loot? You make L16 gear. Cloak of Flames and Bracers of Wind.

Depends on your layout. Shadowfell Conspiracy(Wheloon Prison) has best level 15-16 ish gear.

Ofensive-Sage's set peces (Sage's Spectacles,+ to int and 84 combustion), Sage's Locket(+4 evocation), Sage's Sash(+200 sp x2) Stolen Necklace, if you don't have it (+7 cha), Shard of Xoriat(+1 exeptional cha),Infused Chaosrobe(+1 max caster level, upgrade +10 to reflex or wisdom saves, or your choice).

Defensive - Guardian's Girdle(+40 hp, belt), Guardian's Gauntlets (+8 con), Treads of Falling Shadow(+10% ghostly (stacks with displacement). Minos Legens for head (fort + hp), and Jeweled Cloak with death block slotted in. Slot in feather fall, and get whatever weapons and rings you can. Plume of Adherence(magnetism, combustion, efficient maximize I ) and Ring of Balance(heavy fort).

Otherwise random items that fill slots, or whatever hard to get items you have.

Depends on your gear layout tho. Just look up items on wiki, and see what fits you best, whats on the auction house, and what quests you can do for end reward, or farm. You might want to have someone run you taught the quests for rewards, as level 16 gear is quite hard to get at level 16.

DISCLOSURE: Not played since Shadowfell; been back 3 weeks.

That said, things don't look to be that much changed for heroic. I have no doubt that the gear there is better than my previous, but my plan (and I'm executing it now on a few characters) essentially sticks w/ the same gear from 13 to cap (basically).

For a caster, the Cannith Challenge items to T3 with Master Craftmanship gets them in early enough, and 90 spell power is pretty good.

That's also about the level where twink Cannith Crafted items can end up with a few nifty slots, meaning you can sham on things like Deathblock, Heavy Fort, etc. without up-ing the ML, so your master crafted Cha 6 item you wore at like ML9 can get a yellow or colorless slot and be ML11 or 13 (15 with both). Feather Fall of Resist 5 boots with both a yellow and colorless is ML15, etc. Crazy stuff.

Once you get to epics, you'll want the best SP and crit chance items you can find, then just make sure you've got your other bases covered (evocation, heavy fort, key stats, etc.).

IMO just get +6 Con, +6 Cha, 100% fort, Greater False Life, Magi or better, +1 or 2 Evocation DC, an ML16 lootgen scepter with Combustion and Fire Lore, and the same scepter in lightning. Other than the scepters, that's probably the same gear you wore at level 11 or 12.

Sorcs are absurdly strong for levelling, no need to go overboard with gear on them.

Well the gear I wore at ML 11 or 12 is mostly the same stuff I wore around ML 8, so I figure I'm overdue for a gear upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at the Cannith Challenges!

Challenges will definitely give you a very large power boost if you get the tier 2 level 16 items. (Tier 3 doesn't add all that much).

You might find them difficult, however. The Cannith Challenges are quite easily failed and take a bit of practice.

T3s are awesome for multi-life master-crafted use though, to be sure - so if you'r egoing to be doing this cycle again, they are a solid investment.

You'll inevitably find that some challenges in particular are either easier for you or your build (or both) and may end up doing some of the ingredient trading; if you're solid on a challenge that's not so painful.

I think I have the pack - maybe it came with MotU? - but I've never tried them, so I'm a little excited to find out they are worth attempting :)

Should I (or even can I) attempt them over-level?

You get more materials running them, say as a level 16 you run the level 18 or 19 challenge.

Did you do Crystal Cove or other events?

The penalty for running them when you are overlevel is comparable to the penalty you'd face on XP.

Some of them are nontrivial mechanically even when you dramatically outlevel them, due to needing to do things like getting through a complex maze (the mansion) under time limits, or keeping kobolds alive.

Give them a go, but remember, the Challenges will get you the *best* level 16 gear available, but you can quite easily get by with mediocre gear as you level.

They are a separate pack, not part of the Eveningstar content (there are Eveningstar challenges, however, which were part of MOTU; they only offer one good level 16 caster item, the cloak, and it's only really useful if you have a nonstandard gear setup where you aren't using a caster weapon).

Of note: The Wheloon chain has a reward IIRC of a necklace with +4 Evocation spell DCs. That is *absurdly strong* for a caster that likes throwing Delayed Blast Fireballs and Chain Lightnings.

I did a little bit, on a couple of occasions, and I think I also tried the Disruptor a couple of times, though I don't think I ever won that one.

That's exactly what I mean - some builds are just not as easy w/ disruptor, and some do far better in the Rushmores, etc.

Here is a great tutorial on running challenges. https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/429624

I agree with what everyone is saying. You can get great gear and weapons as well, for levels 4 - 16.
I used bracers of wind, cloak of flame, frozen tunic on my druid and sorc and they worked great.

Good luck
