Greetings,

My name is Robert Ciccolini, although many of you might know me as “Severlin” on the forums or from podcasts. I am the Executive Producer for Dungeons and Dragons Online. I wanted to take this opportunity to look back on our previous year and look forward to the year ahead.

The last year has been eventful, and looking back we have seen many additions to the game.

In the last year we added lots of new content including three new raids. Our characters were able to explore the Haunted Halls as we had the opportunity to present that classic adventure to our players.

Player were able to band together to form more powerful guilds and update their guild airships and amenities.
High level adventurers were able to experience more powerful versions of some of some well known heroic content. We revisited both Three Barrel Cove and the most powerful area of the Orchard of the Macabre.

This past year has seen changes that have allowed for powerful new builds. Heavy armor is no longer relegated to niche builds and has instead taken its place on the front line of the fight. The year saw large improvements for Bard, Paladin and Barbarian, as well as a few improvements for Ranger and Rogue. We added a new Bard tree with Swashbuckler, and the new Vanguard tree is now available to Fighter and Paladin. We also added the Harper Agent enhancement tree. This year also saw changes to help some heroic abilities scale into Epic levels, and a rebalance of the melee oriented Epic Enhancement trees.

The Mirror of Glamering was created to give players the freedom and flexibility to capture the look of their favorite weapons and armors from the game’s treasure. We have already seen players scouring the game for their favorite items to update their style.
Players in hard and elite content faced a new challenge in the form of Monster Champions.

As excited as we are about the additions to the game, the true joy of working on our game has been the involvement of the community. The feedback on features and additions has been extremely helpful. Our players are a passionate bunch who clearly love the game as much as we do, and we love reading feedback, hearing what you love about the game, watching your videos, answering questions during live casts, and hearing stories about your in game adventures.

In the last year we have had some great people provide terrific feedback on the player’s council. I wanted to give those players a shout out for all of their time and enthusiasm. We are working hard on creating our player council for the coming year and we are both excited to hear some new voices and sad to see the current players pass the proverbial baton to the new guard.
Looking forward to the new year we have lots of exciting plans to share.

Temple of Elemental Evil
Our next big update will include the Temple of Elemental Evil. We are all excited to present this classic dungeon to the players. The Temple grounds are quite large! Although players will be presented with a quest to accomplish when they enter the temple, there will be many dangers and treasures to find if the players take the time to properly explore the vast network of temple halls and chambers.

Monster Champions and Mysterious Fragments
Characters facing the game’s toughest challenges have encountered a wide variety of Monster Champions - creatures that have increased skill and power. What is causing this increase in power? As characters investigate the source of this newfound strength they will begin to discover that many of these creatures carry Mysterious Fragments that seem to resonate with strange magical power. Could these fragments be causing these champions and their rise in power? What use could these fragments have for those looking for power?

Monster champions will have a chance to drop Mysterious Fragments. Players can gather these fragments and various agents and interested parties might trade them for a variety of rewards. Rumors of groups offering scrolls, potions, cosmetic items, and even prestigious and rare pets have begun to surface. Organizations do not have unlimited resources. As factions vie for power some agents and rewards might change as the year progresses.

Warlock
We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.

New Storylines
The game will introduce a new story arc that will take the players to Shavarath for a new adventure pack. Characters on these adventures will work to prevent a catastrophe. That story will continue as the year progresses to bring the players once again to the Vale of Twilight. New threats have entered the Vale and more powerful challenges await in this chapter of the Vale of Twilight’s history. Defeating this new threat will require you to enter the more dangerous and powerful Vale of Twilight as you increase your level to 30 and obtain new treasures. More powerful items also await from the corrupted Greensteel found in the Vale after recent events have increased the magical power of the area.

Level 30
Characters will be able to gain experience to increase their level to 30. Characters who reach this milestone will gain additional feats and power, and they will be able to wield and even construct new weapons and treasures to face the foes that challenge them.

New Festivals
The coming year will bring new festivals; a mimic event where players have to hunt down mimics that have infested all the corners of the land. The autumn will also bring a new seasonal festival that will haunt your favorite places and provide characters with more treats than tricks.

These are just some of the ideas and plans we are looking into for the next year. We don’t want to spoil too much about our new monsters, new treasures and other goodies we have planned. Our goal is to present players with a taste of the ideas we are working on, and we also want to remain vigilant to the requests and feedback from the players. Your ideas are important to us, and your feedback will help guide us over the course of the year.

Underline mine, and it makes me nervous. I do not want to see a "kill all mobs to advance" every foot of the way like the Druids Curse chain, or similar artificial restrictions on exploring. Old school DDO dungeons have a lot of charm by allowing you freer reign in how to progress (like waterworks, it has stuff you have to do, but doesnt tell you how to do it). Haunted Halls was successful for the same reason. I hope this follows in those footsteps.

Monster Champions and Mysterious Fragments

Will this eat up more of our valuable inventory space? Will this be sharable between characters? Will we have ample notification to claim certain rewards before they "change as the year progresses"? This could be cool, but it could also be an inventory eating, character switching, time crunched nightmare.

Great letter, and congrats on the promotion! I'm really excited to play through the upcoming year.

I hope the lack of a listing for an anniversary event was just an oversight. Those have been some of my favorite.

Also, the lack of Iconic Kobold Sorcerers...

I'm happy and sad with this announcement.
Happy to see the new things coming for next year. Kinda happy thinking that they might actually be implemented.
Sad to see you Severlin as the new executive producer. As we've been shown in the past, executive producers simply don't last long and I have enjoyed your work and am going to miss it.

Sev besides bug reports can we form a concentrated group of people who record raid runs to examine and test lag?
I know there are at least 20ish people on G-land who would be willing to look at the 3 new raids, since they seem to have more lag than other areas of the game.

Besides this, we need lag fixes!

You've done a nice job in the last year and we are all looking forward to more.
Good luck and may the schwartz be with you or what ever

Hi, I think you should consider merger the servers ,or build a better Dungeon Finder like WOW`s. Veterans who are familiar with quests and well-equipped like solo alone, but new gamers with low-gears and know little about quests can hardly solo a quest. Now the situation is you have to solo because there is only few teams on post. I enjoy this game but I prefer fight in a team, and as a new gamer I need someone to help me or I probably lost in a unknown quest!

Greetings,

Gratz on the promotion even though you disagreed with a lot of my feedback. haha. I STILL think small shields are a bad idea and the defender pally tree needs work but soon moving to... TEMPEST RANGER is woooofully underpowered.

Can't wait as HH was great and the old modules hold a special place. I really really hope the loot is not rare monster spawning in X zone .01% of time ONLY with a .001% chance of drop. The above sounds neat as long as it's REALISTIC loot farming... HH was ok for items, not so much on the augs. If it's not realistic loot farming then it has to be uber cool and super high xp or it won't be bothered with after a month.

Monster Champions and Mysterious Fragments
Characters facing the game’s toughest challenges have encountered a wide variety of Monster Champions - creatures that have increased skill and power. What is causing this increase in power? Sounds good and i recall as a player suggestion from some threads. See people, Devs are listening!

woooo greensteel item crafting? How about sheilds too? Epic vale quests again... shoot me... was tired of them after doing that content for 3 yrs waiting for motu

Hmmm...
Adding content is the only thing you gyes think about?
What about adding better networking hardware? Better servers to handel the players?
And what about plans on the future of the game, as a new gfx-engine/new coding, a new look to the full game, and then add more content and things, as the code and game wil be able to handel more players, and get old vet. players back to the game and much more?
Many are leaving the game sins the game is to old look on, and with all this lag and server/networking issues.

Welp.. I'm excited! I'll definitely buy/resub for a while for that.. I'd personally *LOVE* to see a blending of the 4th and 3rd edition as seems to have been the norm lately.

The Astral pact warlock from 4th edition was just about the coolest thing ever... well.. coolest secondary to playable kobolds, of course.

In a previous update from the dev team where they talked about the Temple of Elemental Evil, they mentioned offering greater rewards (XP and treasure) for exploring the entire quest, but that there would be a shorter path through it for players who wanted only to complete it.

Essentially, a better Haunted Halls. Haunted Halls has a nice set of optionals, and it is fun to see those once or twice, but after a while, groups zerg through to get to the end because the optionals are not enticing enough to do every time.

I think what he means here, is that there will be a lot optional areas and they will make it worth your while to go off the beaten path to get to them.

Greetings,

My name is Robert Ciccolini, although many of you might know me as “Severlin” on the forums or from podcasts. I am the Executive Producer for Dungeons and Dragons Online. I wanted to take this opportunity to look back on our previous year and look forward to the year ahead.

Awwwww. I really want to congratulate you on the promotion but you've been so good for DDO its going to hurt to see you go to LOTRO in a few months.

As to the body of your letter, it sounds cool. I'm not particularly psyched about Warlock but hey I'll wait and see what you've come up with. Is the process of ETR going to change when the level cap hits 30? I'm assuming its going to cost more XP to level to 30 than it does now to level to 28, but what about the Karma XP to ETR?

Will Epic Destinies ever expand to higher tiers? They were made and apparently balanced for a game that capped at 25, (thinking of such things as caster level/max caster level) will such things be adjusted for a level cap of 30? Or perhaps we just need caster level caps of spells looked at?

Can someone please be assigned to adding new relevant recipes to Cannith Crafting? Stats higher than +6, Skills higher than 13, higher Dodge, Natural AC, Protection, Resistance, etc. At least for a start.

Assuming this new Epic? Vale and Shavarath packs go to Twelve and Yugoloth favor respectively can we please get something useful for the top Twelve Favor Mark, perhaps an Augment of some kind or a small choice of Augments like a selection of 3 or 4 to appeal to a variety of classes, and might I suggest for the new highest Yugoloth Favor... Yugoloth potions with no penalties.

Thanks for you time.

Solid letter. I'm really looking forward to what's coming in 2015. Epic Vale and Shavarath sound awesome. Warlock sounds cool and was completely unexpected.

However, the letter did not mention the two biggest issues plaguing the game, lag and exploits. More than anything you've listed, I want to hear what the team has planned to combat these two issues in 2015. I want to be reassured that this is a high priority.

Lag grew to an unacceptable level in 2014 and has majorly affected the ability of players to enjoy the game.

Exploits have completely destroyed the in game shard economy, anniversary event and crippled the end game raiding scene.

Please give us clear, firm and strong explanations of your plans to deal with these two issues. Thanks for your hard work, it's very much appreciated from players like me who love this game.

Warlock
We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.

Hi Sev! Cool teasers....

When do we start talking about the other stuff in U25? Can we throw in our wishlists?

Arti:
Please unsuckify my Arti. Alacrity affects ranged builds at 1/2 to 1/3rd as much as melee. Will Ranged Power adjust for this? Would we finally be able to see Enchantment values of Ammunition and Weapon be added together to compensate? It's always kind of bothered me that the "perk" for being 20 Arti is to conjure +6 bolts which have no effect because you're wielding a +7 (or greater) weapon. I've been playing a Swashie for about 12 variants (2 chars, multiple PLs, many many ERs) for the past 6 months, and I am perfectly fine with shooting 3x +18 toothpicks real slow to make up for the lack of attacks...

Any hope of being able to find a destiny other than Shiradi for my Arti to grind some ERs out?

Rune Arm DCs don't scale. The hyper inflation that's occurred from Destinies inflating CL/MCL, +5gillion Focus items, etc don't apply to the Rune Arms.

Druid:
Why were Melee Power and Ranged Power only added to certain destinies? My Druid has recently gone in to fill out her lacking destinies, and it kind of feels like a double slap in the face... "Man I have to play in Magister and not enjoy great synergy, and I lose the melee power on top of it???" Yes, there will always be some destinies better for a character than others, but do the "wrong" ones have to stink so bad? Would adding Melee power to Magister impact the spell casters that WANT to be in that destiny at all?

Melee Power to Shield Mastery: This is the only Melee power that my wolfie can get, since the THF/TWF/SWF feats don't make sense for a 20 druid wolf. Why wasn't there any added to Natural fighting? My bard gets 1.5x stat mod, faster attack, more double strike; pretty much all around better combat ability than this P2P class. :(

Enhancement Trees: Nature's Warrior pretty much stinks for adding practical value to the a wolf/bear (if anyone plays those). Way too many things for bluff/intimidate for a class that doesn't need charisma, and doesn't get those as class skills. A druid's bluff and intimidate will never be relevant in EE content, so there's no incentive to build for them at all. Enhancements that enhance the worst part of your character aren't good.

Bard:
Fatesinger isn't really bad. It's not stellar but I still hate that its Epic Moment is so completely lack luster. You can Blitz for an entire quest. Fury pumps out huge damage when you need it most. EiN clears entire rooms. Turn the Tide can't be used on bosses and lasts for 20 seconds in trash fights. That's not Epic; that's Meh.

Warchanter enhancement Frozen Fury: 6 AP with a 6 AP prereq for a vorpal ability with 18 second cool down.... Too many restrictions. Lower the cost or decrease the cool down please.

Misc:
There are a couple of other things that I think are more bugs than quality of life fixes... like Adrenaline and the cleave in Crusader break the combat chain... If you're holding down the mouse button to attack, and hit cleave, it flows into the animations. Adrenaline stops your attacks until you click again. It's jarring that some of these do and some of these don't.

Why is every stance in the game's state remembered across login EXCEPT Power Attack?

Improved Feint is still broken. :( It has been since U14.

hmmm interesting. Hard to see why needed with sorcs available but ok. more choices are better.

If they stick close to 3.5 warlock, instead of the much lamer 4e one, then it's a very valid addition.

First - no SP bar. Every power a warlock has in 3.5 is an At-will spell like ability, supernatural ability, or in some small cases, a 3/day or 1/day, but those are really rare.

As they level, they pick powers that either empower or alter their innate Eldritch Blast ability (can give it elemental properties with secondary effects, double the range, turn it into a melee thing (which is terrifying, because it simply adds the full power of the eldritch blast to your weapon attack) make it AoE like a fireball, make it chain like chain lightning, make it give neg levels, and that's not all. They can't all be on at once though. One shape, one imbue.) They also pick ones that are more like spells, but still cost nothing. Ranging from Dark One's Own Luck (giving +6 to a save for 24 hours, but can only cast it once a day), Voracious Dispelling (Greater Dispel, but for every effect it strips away, it feeds you HP), the ability to turn into a swarm of bats, Baleful Polymorph (Mr. Hobgoblin, I dub thee...SIR SQUIRREL! Now leave me alone and go find some acorns, you're done here.)...it's pretty impressive. Also, they get a limited number of innate uses of Fast Healing, letting them do some basic self-healing, and they get a small amount of CR/Cold Iron.

Of course, we don't really have the standard Warlock weapon in DDO. They're big fans of the Spear.

Love what I read and excellent improvement on communication cooperation and coordination this year. Kindly do NOT rest on your laurels - push hard against the dying of the ... kobold?

Maybe stagger the terms of the council - so not all fresh blood at once.

Like the overall vagueness of this - underpromise and overdeliver.

Update 25 (Spring) - Temple of Elemental Evil
Update 26 (Summer) - Return to Devil's Battlefield (Epic Shavarath)
Update 27 (Fall) - Corrupted Vale of Twilight (Epic Vale) (level cap to 30 and corrupted greensteel crafting)
Update 28 (Winter) ???

Where in the worlds is Mimic? Festival
Anniversary event around U26...

Ranged power roll out, rogue/ranger,fighter melee pass, warlock class...

Just no word on cannith crafting pass and most importantly - Guild Management System. :(

Oh joy, yet another Producer. How long will Sev be with us? Starting the pool with June 15.

And great, yet another crafting system to collect ingredients for. Why can't you people further develop the systems you already have instead of making new ones all the time?

Just thinking out loud here- Will The Subterrane and its two raids get the same treatment as the Vale of Twilight? I ask because I assume (wrongly, I hope) when you say The Vale of Twilight you mean the actual Vale, not the adventure pack as a whole. It would be delightful to hear if this were true, because I absolutely LO<3 The Subterrane. Give Xy'zzy and Suulomades some love, and maybe fix Xy'zzy's allergy to Ruin.

Either way, congratulations and very glad to hear new stuff is in store for the future.

Congrats on the promotion Sev. Please stick around as your ability to communicate with your customer base is outstanding. I also hope you keep both your hands in the development cycle to push some of these plans through.

In your new position do you have any influence on marketing? This game needs new blood and it has a lot to offer.

Now need to redo my completionist once warlock comes out. Doh.

Why Warlock?

When we're still waiting on Gnomes and Psionicists!

Oh and Kobolds too of course!

Also - Archmage has been relegated even further over the past year what with PM and EK having the major benefits - All Warlock's gonna do is make sure no-one ever plays an AM again!

I wish I had more time to comment.. Love the Ol' school stuff and hope to see more.

So, based on previous experience over last few years:

Severlin will leave DDO and will move to LOTRO in 6 months top.

Severlin will pretty much stop comunicating on DDO forums in next 14 days. Then, we will hear from him when he announces himself on the LOTRO forums.

Too bad for us - I liked you as a dev Severlin.

Good for your career, I wish you luck.

The new Warlock class should be introduced with the Shavarath update as they tie in nicely with each other. This might also be the time to introduce the Tiefling race as well (hint, hint). It will be a devilish update indeed.

Interesting idea, especially if it goes along with a storyline of sorts. I am however concerned by yet another added collectable/ or ingredient. I already have 2-3 collectable bags & ingredient bags on each of my characters, that are already completely full, and I haven't done many of the higher level quests yet.

Warlock
We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.
Meh. If we're getting a new class, I'd rather see one that isn't another caster. Honestly, I'd rather see a new race that we've been asking for; Gnomes and Kobolds come to mind. Even better would be new Epic Destinies, and tweaking existing Enhancements & Epic Destinies, as those things would help existing & multiple characters out, rather than just new characters.

Sentient weapons perhaps?

Is the mimic event still going to contain the Mabar items, or will they be moved to the autumn event?

Cannith Crafting. If you need more evidence that we want to see it updated, I'm sure there are plenty of threads over the years, but look no further than the comments in Cordovan's weekly Wednesday live stream. Seriously, please don't leave this abandoned any longer.

Missing weapon effects from random loot. Please re-add them back.

Mithral armor and shields. Please make these relevant again. The armor because irrelevant after the introduction of stuff like Magecraft, and then again with the changed to PRR/MRR this past update.

Besides that, enough with the Power Creep and Overpowered buffs to every class and make level 30 content challenging enough IN A SMART WAY.

I do have a few questions though. Why epic vale/greensteel? I know it's been shown on Lamaland and elsewhere for years now as something that was done, but never finished and stated repeatedly it was never going to be done. With something new "anauroch" put on hold indefinately was epic vale/greensteel used because it was already made and cheaper and easier to make then something completely new?

You told the community that new ungeared players aren't expected to be running on elite. I like candor and setting expectations for the community. I predict your tenure will be one with a steady hand and firm decisions. That is what the game needs right now - a steady path.

Greensteel was definitely the best crafting system ever developed in this game. In fact, to this day people still run shroud on a regular basis even though it is 11 levels below the cap. This is a great raid to include as an end game raid when the level cap is 30.

Speaking of end game, you were mostly silent on your vision for end game when the level cap is 30. Is this something that you will be looking at discussing with the community in 2015?

1. Stop calling 5 min boss battles a raid. Its an insult to real raids.

2. What new will warlock bring? As far as I remember, this was sorcerer with unlimited, but weaker spells. Now sorcs have extremally cheap slas, echoes, and there's million shrines everywhere, so mana is not an issue, so what will warlock bring?

3. I hope thunderforged items won't be invalidated ASA epic vale arrives. And I hope not for shroud with cosmetic changes, but entirely new raid, and I hope its a real raid not 12 man boss encounter you seem to be producing.

4. How DDO version of ToEE will be any different than Troika version?
This was the best adaptation of D&D rules (by that I mean mechanics, not plot, story, graphics etc, amount of changes from pnp to video game was extremally low), so I, and probably, a lot of people have completed this game many times, so DDO version must be absolutely and entirely different thing (I don't know how much ToEE was based on module, but if it was strict module adaptation, then choice of ToEE for DDO is bad- produce new content that is actually new instead of producing video game remakes).

now something positive:
1. I hope that sentient items will be like lotro legendary item system, highly customizable etc. and I hope not only for weapons, but I prefer to have something that will not invalidate 100% of other items in slot (adding sentient weapons will make other weapons worthless), I'd prefer items that goes into new inventory slot.

2. I like shavarath, I hope to see it expanded.

3. Mirrow was cool idea, too bad its free in lotro, instead of 250TP/use.

Warlock Class? Wait isn't that basically Pale Master? Whatever.

Nope. In 3rd Edition, a Warlock is a person who made made a literal Deal With The Devil... although they could have made a deal with a Demon, Fae, Chtulhu, or Eladrin, instead. In return for services to that creature, they gain abilities that can be used an infinite amount of times per rest. Keep in mind, they perform services for their supernatural patron, but they don't have to share an alignment or goals with that creature. A 3rd edition warlock has an ability gained at level 1 called "Eldritch Blast" which is basically an uber magic missile, and you can take further abilities to change the damage type, AoE, or add rider effects. A lot of their other spells (called invocations) are similar to arcane spells that wizards and sorcerers cast, but they tend to be slightly better in some way. For example, the warlock version of "Firewall" deals half of it's damage as untyped damage, while the warlock version of "Evard's Black Tentacles" deals cold and bludgeoning damage while the tentacles grip the target.

In 4th and 5th edition, there is less reliance on Eldritch Blast, and the Warlock gains additional bonus abilities for free, based on what kind of supernatural creature they made a deal with.

Is the mimic event still going to contain the Mabar items, or will they be moved to the autumn event?

Originally, the mimic event was supposed to be the sole replacement for Mabar. The new Halloween event must have been introduced after players commented on the lack of an appropriate seasonal event (I was one of them) in October.

I like new content as much as anyone, but really more focus needs to be put on fixing bugs. New content helps keep the old players, but fixing bugs helps retain new players. I am not aware of any major, or even non-trivial-sized, feature in this game that doesn't have bugs! While unrealistic, I would prefer a year of you fixing bugs even if it meant very little new content. The reputation of the game is determined by new players more than the oldies, which affects how many people try a new game.

Fixing bugs is cool!

Greetings,

Temple of Elemental Evil
Our next big update will include the Temple of Elemental Evil. We are all excited to present this classic dungeon to the players. The Temple grounds are quite large! Although players will be presented with a quest to accomplish when they enter the temple, there will be many dangers and treasures to find if the players take the time to properly explore the vast network of temple halls and chambers.

Congrats sev. Hands down the best dev this game has had since some of the originals but we are nervous you will be off to lotro soon. Usually whoever sits in that seat is there no more than a year and off to lotro. Some time as soon as a couple months.

All that stuff looks really good but Epic vale. UGGGGGG!!!! I have run all those quests so many times i couldnt stomach doing them on epic. How about you put 5 brand new epic quests out in the vale wilderness. That way you dont have to create a new wilderness and we dont have to rehash the quests we have all pounded out 3000 times.

WWWWAAAARRRRLLLLOOOOCCCCKKKK!!!!

You have no idea of the squee of joy I just let out when I read that word. That alone, regardless of the other goodies coming this year, really makes me want to play more DDO. I've been advocating to get Warlock as a playable class for at least 4 years. I would LOVE to see it finally implemented.

They're big fans of the Spear.

good time to add it, maybe.

Congratulations.

Turbine would do better to do the following during the next year to honor the undertakings it has made during the past two years to the community.

*Two new iconic classes. (preferably Drow, halfling, but whatever two)
instead of wasting resources on another caster class that will have to much overlap with the Sorcerer and Wizard, just common sense and something that has been asked for. And additional Iconics not only honor the promises of the past but also provide a excellent way for new players (and their cash) to access the end game content.

*New epic content and raids. (secondarily a mid level raid is also well overdue.)
There is no need to rehash existing content into epic, it has been done too often and needs to stop. You need to not only give player content and challenge but also entertain and excite us with stories, not just more gear to grind for. Can't believe this has to be pointed out but here we are.

Huh

No really, what did you mean by a few improvements to Rogue? I just double-checked the 2014 updates and all I could find was:
-a buff to Shadow Dagger (still garbage at epic level, the only place where you actually get Melee Power)
-a buff to Envenomed Blades (so like +9 damage at best, that's not affected by crits)
-a buff to the Mechanic capstone (which obviously means taking 40 AP in Mechanic tree, LOL no thanks)
-a buff to Acrobat capstone (no good Staff build takes 20 Rogue)
-and doubling the duration of Cartwheel Charge AKA the most atrociously awful lvl18 core ability of any class, next to, uh, Mechanic's +1 to Great Crossbow crit range

Unless I'm mistaken, this is all there is, Harper tree was a much larger buff to Rogues (Assassin, specifically) than any of these changes, though it did make one of the better features of Mechanic (INT to damage on crossbows) far less valuable, so, LOL.

Can we have some info on how further the class improvements are going to go? We already know FvS is getting a third tree, but you didn't mention this. FvS, Artificer and Rogue all lag behind pretty badly, especially Artificer and any Rogue that's not a stick build. The entire Kensai tree is below or at least roughly comparable to the output of Holy Sword (iirc.) Henshin mystic is pretty freaking bad, Monk in general is not that great anymore (this is a premium class, you know) unless it's a Monkcher or Shuricannon. You gave the uber treatment to Bards and Paladins, greatly improved Barbarian and are going to make further improvements to them; are any other classes going to get this treatment?

As factions vie for power some agents and rewards might change as the year progresses.

is this going to be exploitable once dupers have a handful of fragments they will have unlimited amounts?

I certainly hope not!

This is disappointing. DDO's last big surprise was the Madness pack failure.

What about other classes being balanced?

What about Ranged power When will we see this?

Transparency not jack in the box update!

First off I almost never post on the Forums, but looking forward to most of what was listed as coming next year. As a casual player, something that I would really like to see is an updated Cannith Crafting (at least add things like Paralyzing, Smiting, Vorpal,..). It would help the casual player to craft things they would like and would breath new life into something that really isn't viable at the moment.

Other than that, looking forward to how the Warlock class turns out but wouldn't mind another race also...Something simple like Gnomes. I think a Gnome Artificer would be interesting (ok Artificer in general {imho} but a Gnome would add a bit of flavor). I know over the last year you just added 4 new races...but really just a 2nd Warforged/Human, a 3rd Elf, and the Shadar-kai (also considered Human for most part). But overall the 4 new Iconic Heroes are well done.

As for ToEE and I guess Epic Vale...I hate to see any Raid equipment become actually obsolete. Green Steel, Alchemical, and Thunder-Forged all have a nice range of levels/use (ok Alchemical maybe not so much now with Thunder-Forged). But to see something become...let us say...outdated as working towards Dragontouched Armor. It would be hard to really find a reason to go to some zones when the rewards of others are just better for the same amount of work.

Just my thoughts...

You are correct, their was no real work done on Rogues or rangers in the past year, you have covered the rogue I will point out the changes to Ranger were only two cool downs in tempest, and a couple of bug fixes to put abilities where they were listed at already.

For Sev to say "work" was done on either is disingenuous at best.

Now for the "bad" news, I would hazard that by saying work had been "done" on those classes that Turbine will attempt to use that as cover when they avoid moving forward with the review of the two classes at pains to avoid the cost in many man hours and resources it would cost to do so (the forum wont police itself for complaints you know!).

Something to note about Update 25 which is only a few months away: The Temple of Elemental Evil will be an opportunity for DDO to do some serious promotion for this game. The buzz is already growing around TOEE / Greyhawk. People who have barely played DDO or haven't even noticed the game before are excited about this update.

Dance of Death went from useless to really one of the best T5 abilities of any class. But yeah, they only changed the cooldowns, not a lot of work as actually done there, I wouldn't have even bothered mentioning it in the letter.

Greetings to you too, Severlin. Will it be possible to adventure in the new content without murdering an entire village of good Elves as required for the Vale of Twilight story arc? Since my lawful good Elf Ranger adheres to his alignment he had to abandon the VoT story line completely at Running With the Devils. Any new content with a murder or other serious crime as a prerequisite will also be unavailable to him.

Warlock
We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.

Please make augment summon useful... please make augment summon useful....

Can we PLEASE revamp epic destinies? So much grinding. So little reward.

Slay the lag monster. Seriously. This needs to be done.

New Festivals
The coming year will bring new festivals; a mimic event where players have to hunt down mimics that have infested all the corners of the land. The autumn will also bring a new seasonal festival that will haunt your favorite places and provide characters with more treats than tricks.

I'm really hoping after all these years Mabar will work properly. Again, the lag monster is terrible. Please fix it.

Seems even leaner on content than last year, recycling two packs and one new quest is it for 3 updates?

Hopefully more work is put into Vale and Shavarath than was done for Necropolis, please don't skip VoD, HoX, The Weapons Shipment or Wrath of the Flame like you did with shield/tome of legends and the Litany of the Dead quest for the Necro 4 update. More of the epic GH treatment please where everything got updated and there was a ton of loot to keep people coming back.

As for the raids other than Shroud they're all still very good at level it's just that power creep ruined them. They shouldn't need to be dumbed down like Mark of Death was, although with how easy self healing is and how no fail saves are also a thing now some changes would be appreciated.

What happened to the FR desert raid, guessing winter release?

Warlocks were meh in NWN2, if they're anything like they were in that they'll just be the new and best Shiradi spammers. Would have preferred some new races and Iconics, setting the stage for a possible Iconic completionist but I get that classes are easier and that no one really has the AP for racial trees anymore with all this class power creep.

Not intending to sound harsh, You've done a pretty great job so far with limited resources it's just that those limited resources are showing and I miss the days of big expansions coinciding with level cap increases.

As for the level cap increase please engage early with the players on this. It'd be very easy to get it wrong and either waste a lot of development time or release something that's just bad. Since this is probably the last level increase and then we're off to maintenance mode you really need to get it right. End game has been off the rails since MotU, it was almost there again with epic GH but then we got Shadowfell which was way too soon and anaemic. It'll take something magical to make a level 30 cap viable when right now 28 still isn't so please take the time to get it right.

The new Warlock class should be introduced with the Shavarath update as they tie in nicely with each other. This might also be the time to introduce the Tiefling race as well (hint, hint). It will be a devilish update indeed.

Tiefling and Aasimar, they could sell them as the Planar Races package, after all if they do it right we should be visiting the Archon stronghold/city.

I just wanted to jump in an answer some questions:

“Are any bug fixes in the works?”

We plan to do regular bug passes with each update. Right now our engineering is devoted to fixing lag issues.

“Is this the Sentinent weapon that was talked about?”

Here is the honest reason I didn’t mention Sentient Weapons. Our plan is to include them in the new Greensteel, because we don’t want to release a system and have Greensteel overshadow it, and we also don’t want to release Greensteel and have Sentient Weapons make those obsolete. So far we have been unhappy with our designs to include Sentient Weapons with Greensteel because, as most players know Greensteel was an awesome system. Because that design is still very much in the air I didn’t want to include Sentient Weapons in the producer’s letter.

“Epic vale quests again...”

Our current plan is to redo the Vale quests, and keep the raid mechanics mostly intact with a new encounter at the end. Some of the Vale quests really need to be revamped.

“ugh... mimic acid damage galore...”

The mimics that are part of the hunt are not the fully mature hard hitting mimics you are probably thinking of.

“What about adding better networking hardware? Better servers to handel the players?”

We are currently discussing options to move the datacenter and update the hardware, but I have no firm plans to announce at this time.

“Can someone please be assigned to adding new relevant recipes to Cannith Crafting?”

We’d love to revamp Cannith crafting and have it extend into some of the higher levels, and have discussed doing so. Our schedule is fairly aggressive and if something needs to be cut the revamp is a likely candidate. For that reason I didn’t add it to the producer’s letter. It is on our list of things to do however.

“Lag grew to an unacceptable level in 2014 and has majorly affected the ability of players to enjoy the game.”

Last year we took steps to combat lag. We changed the shared bank to a paged system for example.

We are currently looking at a specific case of lag caused by stacking server instances. We are working on a fix. I have no date to announce but we want to deploy a fix soon.

There is also another type of lag players are seeing – the lag spike. The lag spike isn’t lag as you imagine it. It is often a server process encountering a content bug and trying to restart out from under players. The server tries to save the instance by moving the instance and all the players to another server process. When this happens all the players see a longish lag spike as their characters are shuffled from process to process. Some characters fail to move and get DC’d. We are actively pursuing the most frequent cause of these process issues and hope to close off at least some of those in the next patch. This work will continue until we have nailed down any frequent crashes.

After that lag will be an ongoing development process. As an example, we plan to look at possible lag caused be crafting formulas in the patches that follow this one.

"Exploits have completely destroyed the in game shard economy, anniversary event and crippled the end game raiding scene.”

We have already added server side protections in the last patch to close exploit holes. We will continue to do so throughout the year.

“When do we start talking about the other stuff in U25”

We have other balance plans as we progress through the year. We still need a ranged pass. We are looking to see if barbarians need further tweaks. We know there are classes that need a third tree. We have other plans for some trees that underperform. Those ongoing design notes are out of scope for a producer’s letter.

“Epic Shavarath”

To clarify, we expect the Shavarath adventure pack to be all new content.

“Warlock Class? Wait isn't that basically Pale Master?”

We envision the Warlock class concentrating mostly on its Eldritch Blast ability and ways to manipulate that arcane blast in various ways. While the Warlock does have spell abilities they are closer to a ranged character than a traditional caster.

“This might also be the time to introduce the Tiefling race as well (hint, hint).”

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.

“I am however concerned by yet another added collectable/ or ingredient.”

They stack really high so you should only need one slot. We wanted to do some kind of currency panel or wallet, but we don’t have the implementation time at the moment.

“Is the mimic event still going to contain the Mabar items, or will they be moved to the autumn event?”

The mimic hunt is actually one of the fun things we have planned for our anniversary. I believe the Mabar items are still planned as rewards for the mimic hunt. We want to have an entirely new festival around the Halloween time, and that would also include appropriately themed items.

Uhmm, I don't think any of the Tiefling NPCs or mobs have tails so skip the tails, we don't need them. We do need horns and glowing red eyes.

Now I understand modifying the helmets could be a bit of an issue but not insurmountable.

Aasimar by the way should have some unique pale skin colors, alot of unusual hair colors, and possibly some unusual eye colors. Otherwise they should look more or less human with slightly pointy ears.

Please do not turn them into half-elves it hurts me that I can make a more attractive half-orc female than a half-elf.

Like get a clue .....people stay in the same circles, so more content means less people to pug with. You ruined healers, rogues and pure classes, now you want to make another class so people aren't completionist and have to work that again.....you certainly know how to hold that carrot in front of them. As for new players, forget it. They will be totally lost unless someone holds their hand. Character building is complicated, for all you nay Sayers I don't play 24/7 and read all the forums constantly. I for one enjoy the game but it is burdensome to my guild mates to constantly answer my questions and lay siege to the dungeons while I cower in the back just trying to stay alive, since they want to do everything on epic elite. lets not forget the added bugs every time you do an update. Also I have played this game for 5 years, took a year off, started playing again a few months ago. I used to be able to solo quite a few levels on my own, now you throw in champions cause the 24/7 people say the game is to easy, I for one don't want champions. Champions have more hit points and that's you answer to making it more challenging. Tired of being funneled into your monsters....reminds me of killer Dungeon masters that didn't want to see the party trample on everything in their path, cause its not fun. I will never be a completionist at any level since I don't play 24/7, I am ok with this, but when it becomes frustrating to play cause your toon isn't built just so......the carrot has no appeal, and people will fade away. One other gripe, It is amazing to see how fast you fix a bug that benefits the people playing, yet still cant fix bugs that have been around for a few updates.

... now you want to make another class so people aren't completionist and have to work that again.....you certainly know how to hold that carrot in front of them.

Yeah we can't have more classes of course, completionists will lose their feat that explicitly says it goes away when a new class is released.

They will be made of ooze and gelantous cubes.

That would be the best-case scenario. If they were made of g cubes and oozes, then we could just sit at the bottom and destroy them one by one! :P

Congrats on the promotion Sev.

Your back-patting for the changes from 2014 is mostly justified, well done to you and the team.

I was personally delighted for the changes to Paladin and that was my highlight for 2014 hands down. [I wouldn't have mentioned improvements to Rogues and Rangers, they were so minimal they aren't really worth mentioning now to be honest and amongst the other achievements they're just unnecessary padding].

If the Temple of Elemental Evil is as good as Haunted Halls then it sounds great but is the Anauroch Desert shelved this year too? If the new Shavarath adventure is just an epic-ified "Devils of Shavarath" pack or a completely new set of "hand crafted adventures" than you need to clarifiy this as soon as possible. Epic Vale wasn't a secret but I hope Epic Greensteel will be treated in such a way that does not invalidate Thunderforged weapons and is implemented in a way that prevents the rampant duping that is degrading the game's economy.

I'm uninspired with the ideas for Monster Champions, but if there is something of actual use [i.e. not pets] to get with Mysterious Fragments then I may change my mind. Warlocks don't interest me, I would have preferred a new Melee class as opposed to a spellcaster as the last three classes added to the game have primarily been casters and you've just implemented Melee power, but I'm happy for those who wanted Warlocks. It's time for a new race too, Gnomes and Tieflings are popular demands, my own want is Aasimar but I'd be happy with one as an Iconic.

If the new events don't create soul-crushing lag as in Crystal Cove and old Mabar then I'm sure they'll be well received.

Enjoy these last few months before your inevitable move to LOTRO, and don't go all quiet on us from now on.

I noticed everyone basically ignored the "considering" part of the Warlock announcement. Sev, based on your end, how much is Warlock set in to be the added class? Are there options we can vote on and can a basic game play theory be shared so we can better make a decision? At this time I would not vote for Warlock but then I have no options.

If we did have options, what class /would/ you vote for?

Warlock is a light armor ranged magical cannon with moderate melee abilities that should be free of SP pot addiction. Their blasts generally won't hit purely as hard as a sorc/AM, but they won't run the risk of running dry, and their blasts can have an array of side-effects, or be turned into melee if you don't want to be 'casty'. It's a class that is actually designed to be, in a way, customizable to playstyle even in tabletop. And with them hitting Vale/Shavarath, it's pretty much the single most thematic choice out there, considering the Eladrin, Ta'anar'ri, and Baatezu all make use of them actively, and they are the major players involved. And, of course, Xoriat can feel free to poke it's nose in, not that the gibbering plane would hesitate anyway.

Temple of Elemental Evil

Will it be a direct adaptation from the module, or like Haunted Halls, will it take place a hundred years after the module, and we are playing a revisit?

Either way, please, make it hard and unfair. Random-instakill-trap level of unfair. No one should expect ToEE to play by the rules.

Monster Champions and Mysterious Fragments

Just, please, add some kind of mechanic to prevent people to bring epic level characters into infinite low-level respawn zones (like Kobold Assault) where they could farm those fragments from champions that are weaker than level-appropriate mobs.

Warlock

I would prefer gnomes over warlocks. I mean, since Warlocks are dependent on their Eldritch blasts, and it works more like a ranged attack than a spell, I believe it will have a unique animation. When you add the need to balance the full class, the ED interactions, the 2-3 class enhancement trees, and the class past life feats, I think gnomes would be a cheaper option on development, and would make more people happy.

I mean, I don't remind many people actively asking for new classes, while a new gnome topic show up every month.

New Storylines

I love Shavarath, and I'm thrilled that it will be new storyline instead of a revamped current one. Remember to add some astral, celestials and angels to fight against us as well in the explorer zone. We might be good-aligned, but shavarath angels are still creatures of battle and mettle.

Talking about explorer zones, can you guys add old-style explorer points against instead of hidden journals?

On epic greensteel, I would like to suggest that them do not surpass Thunderforged weaponry, but instead make them a bit weaker than TF, but stay at ML 20 at any upgrade level. Just like the heroic greensteel, they would become perfect twink items, and not immediately destroy TF crafting.

Level 30

Will we get an Epic XP rebalance? It is already kinda harsh to gater 6.6 mil XP to Epic TR, and the natural progression will scale it to over 10 mil.

Will there be any incentive to stay at level 30, besides gear? Because currently, the major part of an epic character power come from their max level ED and twists of fate, not the feats. The feats are nice, but not crucial, and you can play any epic quest at level 20, since they are no longer level gated. (IMO, that ship sailed, but I think EDs were the biggest corner Turbine ever draw themselves into, instead of actual epic classes (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/428623-Unpopular-request-Change-Epic-Destinies-to-Epic-Classes))

Love it! nicely responded. Glad I nailed most of it earlier. :D

Still - Guild Management System...

Looks great!

I would like to suggest delaying adding another class until every class has 3 enhancement trees and an artificer epic destiny is added....

I would like to suggest delaying raising the level cap to 30. Go ahead and add the level 30-32 quests that are extremely challenging but don't raise the level cap until there is actually an end game that people are participating in (besides TR/ITR/ETR). Perhaps some incentive to stay at cap besides making ITR/ETR hearts (challenging content that is rewarding).

More powerful items also await from the corrupted Greensteel found in the Vale after recent events have increased the magical power of the area.

oh god. please NO EPIC VALE!
i know alot of players beg for this, but who wants to grind this old stale content over and over and over again?

i was concerned when you released epic 3BC, but it turned out fine, you actually CHANGED the quests

but you didnt in necro4 or in gianthold. its just higher numbers and therefore boring.
please, no epic vale! no epic shroud and all the stuff we were running FOR YEARS already! its no addition. its a pain for those who are up for new adventures

new shavarath chain? YAY!
i'm fine with the story connecting with the vale, and that there is a new greensteel thing around, but please just
DO NOT PUSH UP NUMBERS ONLY. ACTUALLY CHANGE SOMETHING IN THE EPIC VERSIONS!

In no particular order and not saying all would be better just options:
Finish all current classes including an Artificer destiny.
Gnomes.
Other trees like Harper. I can think of multiple good ideas like Mystic Theurge with selector sla's of divine/arcane spells. Arcane Trickster(although Harper is close to AT).
Iconics - Red Wizard just for a quick example.
Doomdreamer - TOEE only prestige class. Not certain if it would fit in DDO.
Secrets of Xendrik prestiges like Scorpion Wraith and Landwalker.

The problem with classes is every addition makes further additions harder to have uniqueness, especially with the ability to multiclass. Will Warlock be much different than a Sorc with Harper/EK and a melee splash? My 14sorc/4pal/2fvs already has some melee ability, almost endless nukes, and great defenses. Hence why I asked for an initial plan to help judge.

...
As factions vie for power some agents and rewards might change as the year progresses.
...

Robert “Severlin” Ciccolini

Outstanding!!! ...and that list was chock full of excellent.

Thank you, Severlin, great work from the team, as always, evolving the game.

It's amazing that you fixed armor. It's also amazing that's amazing because it shouldn't be amazing; it's amazing that armor was broken in the first place - old insanely hard EE was some kind of broken-armor-based mutation that was never WAI I've come to believe.

Champions are pure win, although I was offline for most of the holiday period when champions were apparently so horribly hard. It sounded fun, I wish I could have been there for the real deal. The moderated version still adds some spice. Add more varieties and maybe get brave, crank up the volume again (a tad). I like the idea of the Mysterious Shards but that fizzled when I read cosmetics as prizes. I'd rather get something to craft or augment gear. Just right will be when any player any time can take a few unavoidable deaths from the wrong champ, but a decent party working together can handle it without a wipe; that's part of D&D, dungeon master is supposed to have a bit of good fun with you along the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed new bard, paladin and barbarian lives. I wish that swf worked with shield mastery still but I can see how that made every other choice gimp for swf or s+b toons. It was the first thing I did with my bard after the bard pass and I didn't realize how uber it was, having no other swf scheme to compare it to.

Ok so far you've fixed broken armor for players and added champions to beef up the environment a bit to compensate (win). You fixed bard, paladin and barbarians (win). Must I go on?

p.s. Can we at least have a time travel quest so we can find out what happened to all the Gnomes? And at least see a Gnome. Please sir...

OK, Sev, what did you do to Vyv? Is she now among the Walking Dead?

In the last year we have had some great people provide terrific feedback on the player’s council. I wanted to give those players a shout out for all of their time and enthusiasm. We are working hard on creating our player council for the coming year and we are both excited to hear some new voices and sad to see the current players pass the proverbial baton to the new guard.

Thanks for the props; Very cool. I will say, a lot of the list for the upcoming year reflects direct PC feedback. I would encourage anyone with some interest to apply to the PC. It will have frustrating moments but the overall process and experience of participating in the game development was engaging. I really grew to appreciate the depth of passion many players have for the game and the time they spend providing detailed, exhaustive feedback.

As I said on the PC, Sev, don't screw it up - this is arguably the most iconic module of D&D's hey day. It HAS to rival HH. Hire the extra devs, charge $75 for the pack - whatever you need to do BUT DO IT RIGHT. You will get a big influx of players who grew up in Greyhawk and on the former PC game coming here to try it out - let's keep 'em here when they get here. ;)

As some of us on the PC supported - best content for level 30. I think this is the toughest content "at level." Piloto was the genius behind greensteel - are you bringing him back? I hope this content is wickedly tough. Can't wait.

This is true. I have spoken to a number of people who were never interested in DDO before but now want to play because of the TOEE update. If Turbine hypes anything, they should promote TOEE as much as possible, making it a "mini-expansion" of sorts as it brings Greyhawk to the game. MOTU pulled in players that wanted to see the Drow / Underdark, and TOEE could attract the same kind of attention.

I'll take that back...I should have said "extremely annoying to solo on a melee".

Autofail in Dust happens more often than you'd think while pugging. All it takes is one person throwing a cleave, fireball, wail of the banshee, not paying attention to glancing blows, ect. I don't mind having to be careful sometimes, but autofailing the quest and making the party repeat because of what one person did in my opinion goes too far. Spawn a tough miniboss encounter as a punishment or something. But autofailing the quest? It's just not fun. I want challenging/interesting mechanics, not annoying ones.

and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QfSzgV1q5g

I think we will see:
U25 : Temple of Elemental Evil
U26 : Warlock, Fragments, ranged pass
U27 : Epic Vale, Epic GS
U28 : Epic Shavrath lvl 30 cap

That is the order I would follow. This would allow content to be built and tested and the level cap brought in after content to get that level and build things with it to be in place.

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.

Sev~

I say this to be applied generally, as a non-fanboi-of-tieflings:

Don't worry so much about cosmetics.

Nobody is really going to care about not having a tail, and it is perfectly fine for helms to fully hide horns (a player can just turn off helmet display if they'd rather see their horns).

This is a game fueled by build options, don't sacrifice more depth for lack of visuals.

As already observed above, the in game Tiefling mobs don't have tails so the player character Tieflings wouldn't necessarily have to have them either. Horns can be hidden by helms, so Tieflings could just be refashioned humans with small horns and red, glowing eyes.

Should we start getting EPL's as fast as possible or is the required xp for lvl 30 going to be the same it is to reach 28 now?
I imagine it will follow the same progression as all epic levels. 150,000 more experience than the last level so 1.5M for 29 and 1.65M for 30 (3.15M for those 2 extra levels). So yes, cram in as many eTRs and iconic TRs as possible...

as an alternative to helmets blocking the Horns from view or adding horns to current helms they could just make horns that protrude through the helmets when they are worn.

I don't think it would be too difficult to make it so when the helmet is worn the horns are still displayed leaving the protruding bits.

Our current plan is to redo the Vale quests, and keep the raid mechanics mostly intact with a new encounter at the end. Some of the Vale quests really need to be revamped.
If by some you mean all, then yes. I just hope the redo/revamp is a solid improvement. Devils has poorly balanced light damage, Dust has annoying fail mechanics, Rainbow has visibility issues, Coal has long/boring/repetitive/mario issues, and Ritual has too many mobs and a protect-fail condition. None of those are particularly fun now, let alone under epic or epic elite conditions. Honestly, I would hate to see them get scrapped too. Theres a lot of good there. But they do need retouching.

Devils needs a spellpower pass, and probably an adjustment to the two self-healing red-named with rare DR types so newer players have a better chance. Dust needs to eliminate the fail mechanic, it just punishes new or sloppy players. Rainbow needs to maybe make the torch shine simply by being in your inventory, having to hold it really does a number on a lot of builds. Coal needs more than an air jet to shorten it up, and some of the jumps cleaned up so theres less hitting your head and flying into space. And Ritual needs a more robust npc at the end, especially with champions now, and wouldnt hurt to see some of the mob count lowered. Plus whatever tweaks you guys do for the epic verisons.

Ill be honest, the change from Grey Garl to Epic version is cool. The quest is a bit much in a few spots (so many stuns can cause cheap deaths in a few spots, wouldve liked to see the shamans a bit more consistent throughout but only a few in one spot instead of like 5) but I like the "old is new" approach. I think that could work here, provided the old quests are changed as well. Weve already run these 100s of times. Going back for epic isnt exciting if its not at least partly new. Seriously. Ive already something like 500 shrouds. I dont want to find out I need to make that 1000.

The mimics that are part of the hunt are not the fully mature hard hitting mimics you are probably thinking of.
Its not about how hard they hit. Its do they have the irresistible stacking mimic slobber. Which also slows you. Etc. I hope all aspects of that are pulled for any event described as "fun".

Last year we took steps to combat lag. We changed the shared bank to a paged system for example.
Im curious how much of an impact that had. Its the only specific step you mention here, and its also annoying as heck as a player. I mean the arrows are on top of the items currently, its not even graphically clean. Even if it was, many of us enjoyed seeing/accessing everything at once. There are numerous threads about this, its not just me. Can you report the nature of whatever benefits this change provided? Id rather have the old way back if it was not extremely significant (which, as my playing has seen little to no change, it doesnt seem like it).

We envision the Warlock class concentrating mostly on its Eldritch Blast ability and ways to manipulate that arcane blast in various ways. While the Warlock does have spell abilities they are closer to a ranged character than a traditional caster.

This is good to see, it means you are taking a 3.5-centric approach. I hope the full selection of other fun abilities (take 10 umd, alternate class features in the form of selectable feats like monk paths or simple enhancement trees, and so on) make the grade. Id also very much like to see Eldritch Glaive make it... so we can have melee-locks. Kind of like how EK is a "melee" tree for casters, it would be great to see Warlocks be the first class with SLAs that toggle add-on effects, as well as a way to change that SLA from ranged to a melee buff. Very hopeful this can turn out to be something truly welcome and unique, as most of the necessary effects are already in game mechanically. Wary of it being a poor cut and paste job, or a class with extreme limitations on its choices due to time/resource constraints. Do not forget, it is the large plethora of options that makes warlocks work. A good sized set of those have to make it here for the class to really integrate well.

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.
Additionally I dont think races have much to add to the game at this point. At their most significant, they might have +2 to a stat over an existing choice, or a unique enhancement useful to one class/build. Id rather see development energies allocated elsewhere which will have more of an impact than "well now my guy looks different and has +2 stat". I understand not everyone shares this opinion. If we do ever see more races, filling out Iconic gaps (say Iconic Duergar, since there is no dwarf iconic parallel currently, as one example) seems a smarter and more effective move. My 2 cents.

They stack really high so you should only need one slot. We wanted to do some kind of currency panel or wallet, but we don’t have the implementation time at the moment.
Then just dont do this until you do. I dont care how high it stacks. I am VERY TIRED of inventory taxes like this, which also create additional inventory management workloads through an increasingly cumbersome bank system. It had better stack to something obscene like 100000 and be shared-bankable so its just one inventory slot lost EVER. I like this change (moving from chests to fragments) but DO NOT WANT any more inventory garbage. Also, DO NOT WANT to have to pick up and loot it every time. Purple Collectible bags are a pain. Make it auto-allocate like epic token fragments, PLEASE.

The mimic hunt is actually one of the fun things we have planned for our anniversary. I believe the Mabar items are still planned as rewards for the mimic hunt. We want to have an entirely new festival around the Halloween time, and that would also include appropriately themed items.
Does this mean it will have a way for those characters which did not get an opportunity to get the once-per-account +5 Tome to get one? I sincerely hope so. I would like to see everyone given a fair shake to event items like that, and the other mabar selections as well. Thanks, hopefully.

Well,

First congrats on your new position Sev! I will echo the sentiment that I hope this doesn't mean you will wind up leaving us for Lotro anytime soon, as seems to happen with that position. I appreciate the level of feedback you give as well as your bluntness sometimes.

Second, sounds like some good stuff on the horizon. I am not really pumped for Warlock as a class myself, but meh I am sure some will be happy about it. The Vale, Amrath and ToEE really has me excited, can't wait to see it live.

Keep up the good work!

I just wanted to jump in an answer some questions:

“Warlock Class? Wait isn't that basically Pale Master?”

We envision the Warlock class concentrating mostly on its Eldritch Blast ability and ways to manipulate that arcane blast in various ways. While the Warlock does have spell abilities they are closer to a ranged character than a traditional caster.

Why not instead attend to the original bloody ranged classes that are still awaiting a update pass? ye'gods! the Ranger was supposed to be next, and the mechanic and Artificer are going to have to wait in underpowered limbo while you guys play with a NEW CLASS? come on! sure it is always funner and easier to start something brand new, but it's more important to take care of the classes that have been waiting for so long. Seriously? do you expect people to just sit back while you make a new ranged class after they had to spend all last year playing 2nd fiddle to the assorted monchers and chuckers, bards throwers, who all got buffed well beyond them?

Seriously? how can anyone there think this is needed or a GOOD IDEA? Doesn't anyone think this stuff through before pushing forward? seriously, the ranger, mechanic, and artificer, write that down so you don't forget Turbine.

“This might also be the time to introduce the Tiefling race as well (hint, hint).”

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.

How very droll. The races we are waiting for are not the Tieflings, and in fact what we were told to expect years ago and again last year was more Iconic classes. The drow, the halfling, the gnome illusionist, the Duergar remember iconic for races and classes? back when forgotten realms was the way forward? and iconics were going to help the new and established community?

Come on, stop making jokes about helmets, we have been waiting patiently for years now for those to be delivered on. Don't insult us with these kind of jokes that are supposed to distract us.

You are going to have to really lift your game and come through on the undertaking made by those who came before you.

BTW Shav and the Vale? really? don't just don't. Give us the desert expansion we were prepped for and promised, not some cheap rehased item power-creep nonsense. If all the content will be "new"? well then you can spend that energy on the "new" desert and iconics.

Unbelievable.

Warlock
We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.

Two words only:

GNOME WARLOCK

That is all.

Actually have to add a few more.

Please don't make Warlocks just another "blast away at everything" caster type - that's why you have Sorcerers. Make sure to include the various 4E style "Pacts" perhaps via enhancement trees so that a variety of customised power trees is available. In particular we are long overdue for a Shaman style character who can lay down lots of disease style DOTs - the Shaman in EQ2 was awesome foe this and an equivalent is sadly lacking in DDO - and this could potentially be achieved through the Dark Pact. Hexblades are also a great Warlock variant.

Give us some class variety via any new additions, not just minor variations on the current ones as happened with the silly "ironic" classes (there is nothing 'iconic' about any of them).

Epic Greensteel has to be called Blue Steel ;).

Warlock could be a hybrid melee/caster...and optionally ranged (as in thrower or bower). I would personally add Stealth so, there is reason to think future quest design with stealth in mind.

Warlock should have a personal pet, much like the druids, buffs appropriate to this pet to be useful even at later stages up to EH.

Warlock could also focus on applying cheap/fast effective debuffs..ones people actually care to apply, and are still useful in EEs.

Please fix overpowered builds before you do a ranged pass (or any other pass really), we already have shuriken and bow builds doing 60-80k burst damage, and thats without minmaxing. Thrower builds are running the end game now with the ranger wolfs.

So which raids in the game are real raids (for a frame of reference)?

Tempest Spine
Chronoscope
The Shroud
Caught in the Web
VoN 5
Twilight Forge

The above are what Vellrad wants more of I'd say.

As opposed to:

ADQ2
Reaver's Fate
Vision of Destruction
Fall of Truth
Mark of Death

Which are all basically one room Boss Fights!

Now one room Boss Fights can work fine if given a little extra:

Abbot
Hound of Xoriat
Lord of Blades
Master Artificer

But I'm with Vellrad on this one - Let's have some more REAL Raids like Tempest Spine and Caught in the Web please!

P.S. Caught in the Web is a REAL Raid done badly - Try to get them right please!

Thanks Severlin for your letter and exiting news,

but I feel somehow sad, because not one Forgotten Realms module is anounced- since I thought FR is a DDO prime world I am really astounished. Only one adventure a year is a little too less for me to think as DDO a FR game.

Best regards

It was starting to be obvious that you had the power of somebody in charge of things behind your posts lately. ( at least for me )

Still - Guild Management System...

The old broken system was looked at during the guildship revamp... And it's not fixable... a new one would have to be created from scratch.
There wasn't enough time at that time.

since I thought FR is a DDO prime world I am really astounished.

The prime setting is Eberron, FR is a secondary setting... and Greyhawk ( what there will be of it in The Temple ) is a third one.

now it has been metioned in the past by Devs that part of the reason MM has not been added was the Art was expensive ( I am assuming because, they used Art from original dnd handbooks they needed licensing ) my suggestion is to have the artists at turbine do up the art save some $$$

He said 'corrupted Greensteel', which has me curious. How do you get more corrupt than a metal that is only found in deposits in Baatezu-tainted outer planes (namely, Devil-held parts of Shavarath, and The Nine Hells of Ba'ator)? Is it mixed with Abyssal Bloodiron? Gehennen Iron? Some Eladrin metal (and if so, the work you'd have to do to alloy metallic Lawful Evil with metallic Chaotic Good should be a doozy without it just exploding.)

Just, please, add some kind of mechanic to prevent people to bring epic level characters into infinite low-level respawn zones (like Kobold Assault) where they could farm those fragments from champions that are weaker than level-appropriate mobs.

A mechanism much as used for Guild Renown in chests would work well - if you are over level you get a reduced rate of drops (and eventually none at all).

Will we get an Epic XP rebalance? It is already kinda harsh to gater 6.6 mil XP to Epic TR, and the natural progression will scale it to over 10 mil.

IMO, better would be to leave XP alone but retain the threshold for Epic Reincarnation as level 28 as it is now - assuming sufficient new quests will be added to make the extra XP between 28-30 viable without eye-bleeding farming of Spies-VON3-WizKing...

Really? Please do tell me how those quests that have been there for 4 years need to be revamped again. They work just fine, and they are pretty good as they are.

Well, let's look at that:
"Running with the Devils" and "Rainbow in the Dark" are pretty awesome (though it would be good if light sources like Archon lanterns were reintroduced).

"Coalescence Chamber" and "Let Sleeping Dust Lie" are particularly unpopular with many people and contain some tedious mechanics in each (the multiple switching of shafts and up-and-down running in the first, the "let's hunt for an orange name that will randomly spawn anywhere, but only after we've read a journal which equally spawns in multiple locations" - I don't mind exploring a whole map (in fact, I like it) but detest having to re-explore it on more than one occasion...

"Ritual Sacrifice" has a tedious "protect the NPC" mechanic right at the end, which can be quite frustrating with a hard mix of champions - since other "protect" quests have been altered to make the NPC more robust - or in fact invulnerable - this would stick out.

Sev~

So which raids in the game are real raids (for a frame of reference)?

In my personal order of "this is an well-planned raid" to "this is a raid, but need improvements"

Tempest Spine (long, explorable, full of minibosses and mid-raid chests with named loot, very challenging at the time of release)
Twilight Forge (long, explorable, requires a party to split up, good puzzles (missing a reset lever on green), very challenging even today)
Shroud (Divided by stages, each stage have their own reward allowing people of varied skill levels to be rewarded on partial completion)
Vault of Night (long, explorable, requires a party to split up, good puzzles. Not on pair with Titan because of no named reward mid-raid, and no end chest)
Chronoscope (explorable, good boss fights, great story, mid-raid chests with named loot)
Temple of the Deathwyrm (long, good puzzles, great story)
Caught in the Web (long, explorable, decent optionals. On the other hand, escort quest and the most BORING raid boss ever: Fight the dire navel!)

I prefer any raid that is more akin to those seven than the one-room boss fights we got recently.

Epic Greensteel has to be called Blue Steel ;).

First, gratz on the promotion Sev !

It was starting to be obvious that you had the power of somebody in charge of things behind your posts lately. ( at least for me )

The old broken system was looked at during the guildship revamp... And it's not fixable... a new one would have to be created from scratch.
There wasn't enough time at that time.

The prime setting is Eberron, FR is a secondary setting... and Greyhawk ( what there will be of it in The Temple ) is a third one.

I mean with prime setting: Pay to get a very new, high quality and excited stuff in the FR in form of expansions- I would like to pay for a FR expansion, if nothing else is planed for free in FR in 2015.

Best regards
Tarinia

Hi Severlin,

you was not speaking about new features in the AI or Misc functions for 2015- for me I would nearly pay any price for a "search all" function for all inventories and all banks for all of my Chars on the same server.
I loose lots of time seeking for items stored on others chars/banks/invetory and would love to save that search marathons.
Any chance that we will se it in the future?

Here is the honest reason I didn’t mention Sentient Weapons. Our plan is to include them in the new Greensteel, because we don’t want to release a system and have Greensteel overshadow it, and we also don’t want to release Greensteel and have Sentient Weapons make those obsolete. So far we have been unhappy with our designs to include Sentient Weapons with Greensteel because, as most players know Greensteel was an awesome system. Because that design is still very much in the air I didn’t want to include Sentient Weapons in the producer’s letter.

Perhaps it would help (for getting feedback) to make a thread on lama describing what you actually have in mind (including bits saying "we're not happy with the next bit but here it is anyway, please discuss") for sentient weapons? I've had sentient weapons in my homecampaign that ranged from largely cosmetic to effectively an etra party-member -neither of which seems to be a great thing to include in DDO. So what ARE you thinking of?

We are currently discussing options to move the datacenter and update the hardware, but I have no firm plans to announce at this time.

Hey, it's a start! :)

I really hope it gets in! Provided, that is, it's an *expansion* on what we currently have. NO removing stuff already in there, NO changing of existing recipies. Just more of what there is (statboosters to +10, skill boosters to +20, addition of new enhancements). Heck just adding the stat- and skill boosters would be a great improvement!
And the more finger-friendly essence cruncher of course.

Last year we took steps to combat lag. We changed the shared bank to a paged system for example.

I hope that created a SIGNIFICANT decrease in lag (haven't seen any yet), as that is a serious pain in the posterior. I really hate it.

To clarify, we expect the Shavarath adventure pack to be all new content.

WOOT!

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.

AS mentioned, drop the tails. Quite a few helmets cover horns so would not need a modification, but I suppose that may not be enough. However, while we're on the topic of headwear, can you please have someone look into the hair issues some hats and helmets have (notably the cosmetic wizard had eating your hair!), and do the same for elven ears? When I wear my spider mask, I suddenly no longer have ears! It's certainly a minor issue, but annoying all the same. Also, *please* allow shadar-kai to use hair cosmetics? I can understand them having hideous hair during creation from a background perspective, but WHY can't they go to the shop and get a make-over afterwards??

Hm. I'm not sure how badly people want these special races, but... Would a kickstarter be an option? If you run a kickstarter for thieflings (or kobolds), and add a few easier-to-create races as stretch goals (half-elven make-over?), it might be you could raise the money for creating them.

They stack really high so you should only need one slot. We wanted to do some kind of currency panel or wallet, but we don’t have the implementation time at the moment.

I really wish they'd go into a bag, but I guess this is to prevent duping. How about instead giving everyone 5 extra spaces in the collectables shared bank, and let these thingies (and a crunched super version similar to heart seeds if needed) go in there? I don't mind getting a new ingredient item if I also get a new place to store it.
Btw there's some old collectables (planar shards come to mind) that have this same issue and might be given the same treatment.

Looking forward to the coming year!

(oh and a provisional congrats on your new postion; provisional on you *staying* there!)

So, let me get this straight:

Two quests are fine, one CAN be tedious because of the newly introduced Champion mechanic (which leads us to think that the problem is not the quest itself but the new mechanic), and the other two because of their mechanics.

Coalescence chamber is pretty straightforward, requires some jumping yeah but I can't see the problem there honestly. The first run through it can be long but the next runs can be done in under 10 minutes.

Let Sleeping Dust Lie is probably the most annoying one (I actually like it) but you could just make few changes to make it enjoyable: make the orange named spawn only in one area. Other than that, it's a maze-like quest. You HAVE TO get lost and repeat some segments of the quest in order to learn the path and complete it.

Said this, I still clearly don't see how the whole Vale of Twilight pack needs to be revamped. In fact, it DOESN'T.

Very exciting letter really, all of it is great.
But does this means theres no more ranged pass or new trees for druid/arti/fvs? i recall devs mentioning these.

Also yay for the possibility of reworking coal chamber.Quest is just way too long and boring and it constantly reminds you of how stupid the ddo physics is when everytime you just so much touch a wall midair you are violently pushed several meters away for no reason.
Rest of vale quests dont really need to be touched in my opinion.

Epic Greensteel has to be called Blue Steel ;).

I prefer Dark Steel. Then you never have to worry about your weapon breaking.

Also i agree with everyone that is putting raids like deathwyrm and etc as good raids. And tempest spine.Tempest spine is great.Tempest spine epic please!

Good point. And actually a really great point if used well IMO. What if it meant using "greensteel" and having to then mix it in with a bit of those other metals and based on which one you use you can get to a different mix / set of effects. Maybe even paired with an alignment limit for some? Or even making all these inner conflicts urge the weapon itself to become Sentient (that would mean having to combine 3 of them in one item?) - Edit: OR hey, maybe make us use those "Mystic tokens" from champions to make a fully corrupted item sentient as well!

I really would be in favour of being able to use either a heroic greensteel blank OR an already fully crafted greensteel item OR get a new "elite" one, where you would need slightly different processes maybe (an extra ritual / quest / raidrun? to make the heroic blank an epic one for example and allowing finalised items a bit of a "shortcut").

Oh, and as you mentioned cannith crafting, what if your crafting lvl had an influence on how successfull you are at this complicated mixing of already tainted greensteel to make it utterly corrupted without falling apart? THAT would surely be an incentive for everyone to get their cannith crafting working.

Or, since it is further corrupted... Red Steel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Steel_%28boxed_set%29)
Actually Green Steel was a material found in WotC splat books in 3.0 and I think earlier but I don't know what source to call out.

Baatorian Green Steel, page 13, WotC Arms and Equipment Guide.

In addition they also called out Gehennan Morghuth-Iron and Solmian Truesteel.

The additions are good, but really NO GNOMES or mention of GNOMES. I am sorely disappointed.
I've seen several people echo this sentiment, but I don't. Why? My opinion is that gnomes should be tiny sized creatures ala smurfs, not bald bearded halflings to be used to min/max wizards. But the main reason why I'm not sad to see them not show up is because of the work involved. They'd have to resize again all armors to fit another race (pretty huge undertaking) let alone think of the fiasco they had with trying to make half orcs and half elves. It would not be pretty. Then they'd have to tweek animations to make the attacks and castings smooth.

Frankly I'm much more disappointed no more spells are getting released.

[/url])

I don't believe EGreensteel needs to be weaker than TF...just different. TF weapons seem to be focused on a few types of powerful damages/effects. Just make sure EGreensteel is different. Not better or worse...just different.

And can I say...EGreensteel Armor???? Yes????

Said this, I still clearly don't see how the whole Vale of Twilight pack needs to be revamped. In fact, it DOESN'T.

See, the thing is they need to be revamped because they are worse than they could be. Whether they are overall bad is much less important, given that the area is being revisited at Epic.

Coal chamber is a pain, sure it can be done easily by some folks with a certain disposition(I will never stop getting lost there), but it could be less miserable for everyone with some tweaking. Why not? It's not like they have to delete the old, tedious version to change it in Epic. GH saw improvements and those quests weren't even as bad.

I hear this a lot, and I don't get it. Why is there such a response to trying to revamp content that's being re-released? If they don't change anything, then I and others are correct when we complain that 2/3rds of "new" content is simply the same stuff we ran 5-10 levels ago, only with all the numbers turned up and some mob-names changed. I am pretty sick of GH by the time I get done for the second time in 2-5 days.

Especially because if they add this stuff at cap, it becomes the new end-game and you MUST run it ad nauseum to advance characters, maybe some people are nostalgic enough to want the same basic content twice per life, personally I like novelty and added value.

Now, to another issue.

Can we get some idea of how you plan not to ruin the new endgame for like 5 different character styles? Henshin, AoV, Crusader, Flame Savants and a sizeable chunk of Druids are all going to be feeling some degree of pain out in Shavarath. Sure, the Druids can swap forms and AOV isn't all that much fire, but Henshin, Fire Savants and Crusaders are seriously getting shot in the foot. Crusader is new, relatively speaking, it seems really wrong to make this compelling tree and then make a nice sized chunk of it's powers do no damage. Fire Savants just barely got to be cool for a little bit and then back to the shelf. Respeccing a Savant into a new element is doable but given gear and EDs and spell choices it's a big deal.

If Shavarath is still fire immune in the same way it used to be, I have two toons that will be completely crippled until the next pack comes out. Please tell me you aren't going to do this again?
Maybe give Savants an ability that lets them do up to 25% damage to things immune to their element, add 50% damage to fire immune enemies to the Henshin capstone applied only to their ki-abilities.

Epic Shavarath was a surprise, but everything else I could tell was coming. It all sounds good so far, but I'm going to say that with this end game content coming I hope it gives players a good reason to park characters at cap. It would be great to see once again a cap raiding scene and see the return of raid trains. With Shavarath I hope TOD sets get their improvements and missing sets, but also become a raid worth running again. I wonder if there will be a way to upgrade the heroic sets to epic. I'm also a little worried about revamping Vale. Please don't crucible the quests or flagging and please don't casualize this new content.

I'm really impressed with the Producer's Letter and hats off to you and congrats on the promotion!

But I have a few questions and comments (cause there are not enough of those running around ;p)

So if we are getting Warlock and it has alignment restrictions in 3.5 Can be Chaotic (CG, CN both are rare) or it can be evil (LE, NE, CE) Though rare to actually see any Warlock not in the evil vein...does this mean we are finally getting evil alignment and all the fun that comes with it?

Why Warlock instead of bringing in Psionics (Soul Knife is of interest though a Wilder would really show you how Shirardi is done) or Knights or Samurais or Beguilers or any of the other base classes out of 3.5? I don't see exactly how Warlock fills any kind of role that is lacking, from a perspective (honestly if I want a blaster or more of a ranged spellcaster...revamp Arcane Archer tree to have a bit more omph and I'd go Ranger/Sorc for kicks). Knights would really work for anything out of Eveningstar and you know PDKs could actually be Knights (crazy I know!) Psionics would open up worlds of possibilities for expanded game play and systems. Beguilers give you a Bard/Rogue that uses hand crossbows, enchantment spells, deals with traps and etc. (Actually they are kind of cool and for the gnome fans, many beguilers are gnomes or halflings...imagine a halfling that isn't a monkcher)

I get the horns and tails art issue with doing Tiefling (sad really...Tieflings make amazing assassins and even Warlocks)...but why not give us Aasimars? We really could use a Wisdom oriented race and Aasimars are the best choice and all you'd have to do is cross an elf with the skin tones and ears of human and you'd have it.

I await the flaming of the Warlock fans...

Thanks Severlin for your letter and exiting news,

but I feel somehow sad, because not one Forgotten Realms module is anounced- since I thought FR is a DDO prime world I am really astounished. Only one adventure a year is a little too less for me to think as DDO a FR game.

Best regards

The last update of 2015, Update 28, will probably be Forgotten Realms content. From what I can gather from the Producer's Letter, the schedule is something like this:

Update 25: Temple of Elemental Evil

Update 26: Shavarath / Warlock?

Update 27: Epic Vale / Level 30 / Epic Greensteel

Update 28: New Content, mostly likely FR, but not mentioned in the Letter

Coal's unique design is pure awesome... EXCEPT that you have to climb TWICE... If it was just once up, it would be in my top 10 quests... Still a good quest IMO.

Dust = Autofail condition is easy to avoid... Nice to have a quest where you have to be careful sometimes...

Rainbow is completely soloable if you are a melee. Why do you say it's not? Carry the light with you for the really dark spots, put it away and pull out your weapon when you need to fight.

Dust is not easy to avoid unless you're caster or ranged. If you're melee you're at a significant disadvantage. I say remove the autofail feature after you save the queen. Once you done that there shouldn't be a chance to fail at the end fight; that would remove most of the grief.

Lots of good stuff and stuff I'll hold out judgement on until it's live.

Warlock makes sense last core class missing in DDO (using 5th edition), just PLEASE make it very different in spells or style from Wizard or Sorc.

Temple of Elemental Evil? Good Stuff.

Level 30? Do it sooner rather than later. Need to know what those 2 last levels look like, before we can even begin to see what an "endgame" for DDO will look like and whether your Epic Shavarath and Vale stories (and raids) will be up to snuff. Please re-work the exp needed to get to 30. Currently I find levels 25 to 28 to be a drag, not because we don't have enough content (we do in my opinion), but it's just grind.

Lag isn't a huge problem for me, but it is for some. Glad to see it's a priority.

Always looking forward to the things you haven't talked about. Those often turn out to be the best.

Good luck in 2015!

Greetings,

My name is Robert Ciccolini, although many of you might know me as “Severlin” on the forums or from podcasts. I am the The latest if you keep track of them as they go by Executive Producer for Dungeons and Dragons Online. I wanted to take this opportunity to look back on our previous year and look forward to the year ahead.

Fixed it for you. Congratulations on your promotion by the way, hopefully it goes well.

The last year has been eventful, and looking back we have seen many additions to the game.

In the last year we added lots of new content including three new raids. Our characters were able to explore the Haunted Halls as we had the opportunity to present that classic adventure to our players.

This not lots of new content, this is actually more like the complete opposite of lots and that is the problem from this player's perspective.
Don't get me wrong I love Thunderholme, enjoy the concepts of the new raids but they are not really playable at the moment.
The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar is awesome content and I look forward to The Temple of Elemental Evil and I hope it is half as good as Haunted Halls.
The other new content was a new quest for Epic 3BC; Precious Cargo.

Player were able to band together to form more powerful guilds and update their guild airships and amenities.
From my perspective you fixed a problem that didn't need to be fixed and escalated power creep in the game. A few changes to the existing ship buffs and everyone would have been happy.

High level adventurers were able to experience more powerful versions of some of some well known heroic content. We revisited both Three Barrel Cove and the most powerful area of the Orchard of the Macabre.
Yeah about that, please stop doing that. People want new content not a rehashing of older content.
IMHO all the content that has both Epic and Heroic Versions should become one or the other and the other version shut off.

Should be kept:
Heroic Phairlan Carnival
Heroic 3BC
Heroic Red Fens
Heroic Sentinels of Stormreach
Heroic Demon Sands
Heroic Gianthold
Heroic Wheloon
Heroic Litany of the Dead
Heroic Secrets of the Storm Horns
Heroic Heart of Madness
Epic Vault of Night (The Raid needs to be level 32 though)
Epic Druids Deep (Needs an explorer area though)
Epic High Road of Shadow
The other version of each of those needs to be reimagined into new adventure packs with new content. We can only take running the Gateway to Khyber soooooooo many times.

The improvements to most classes players feel are a mixed bag. There is a reason people call it Brokbarian, and Pally still needs lots of love as you have shoehorned those characters into heavy armor. Vanguard is well not well liked.

The Mirror of Glamering was created to give players the freedom and flexibility to capture the look of their favorite weapons and armors from the game’s treasure. We have already seen players scouring the game for their favorite items to update their style.

Of all the stuff you have done well last year this is my personal favorite addition to the game. I think I bought like 20 Mirror of Glamerings from the store and am ready to buy more when I find graphics I like. I have kept 5 sets of older armor for eight years waiting for this addition. Not to mention a Maelstrom for my Dwarven Barbarian who looks great.

Unfortunately the Players Council was no where near as transparent as it originally was indicated.

While it may not be the The Isle of Dread it is still a really cool module and I am glad that you are bringing it to DDO, it will be interesting to see how it works considering you have indicated that the adventure will take place in another world (cough Greyhawk cough) without as far as I know saying what world it is. It is too bad you did not build a public zone and the adventure area to go with it that would have been beyond awesome.
I also hope that when you say “will include” you mean there will be an additional adventure pack in the update. Not just ToEE and some game updates.

Please no, not another collectable. Don't we have enough of these already with Tokens, Commendations, and ingredients and collectables? People don't want this they want a simple system that rewards them (cough XP cough) for fighting champions, not collecting 3500 Mysterious Fragments with a 101 items on the reward list where only 1 is really taken by the players.

We are looking into adding a new class during the year, and we are considering the Warlock class. The Warlock creates powerful eldritch blasts to destroy enemies in addition to a variety of spells to aid them in their adventures.
I had to laugh out loud on this one. I wrote a post yesterday that disappeared shortly after I wrote it which included a section on why Warlock would be a good edition to DDO this year?

It will be nice to go back to Shavarath, with the Angels and Demon areas yet to explore it could be very interesting. Hopefully this (these) new pack is the similar level range as Devil's of Shavarath (19-20) or more honestly you rework Devil’s of Shavarath to be level 30 content and make the new content level 30 as well. When Devil’s of Shavarath was added to the game it was the most difficult content and made the most sense but as the Epic levels to the game have come it makes less sense that the most difficult zone in Eberron is not the Battleground of Shavarath.

Now about Epic Vale, please don't. Let me rephrase that, are you out of your trees, do you not listen to people who do the exit surveys, how about listening to players that take hiatuses. I am not going to sugar coat this Epicifying existing content is beyond dumb and borderline stupid. Not even lag has driven away that many players as the sure boredom of rerunning older content. Players want NEW content not rehashed version of the same things we already have. You wrote about how you can analyze big data to tell you what players are doing, how many runs of Epic 3BC, Heroic Druids Deep, Wheloon (either version), heroic Secrets of the Storm Horns.
Yes players would like to have Epic Green Steel Crafting (or something similar), heck most players would want Epic Crafting that crossed multiple Adventure Packs, but rerunning the same quests over and over and over and over again is not fun. So let me repeat, Epic Green Steel Crafting good - Epic Let Sleeping Dust Lie not good.

Level 30
Characters will be able to gain experience to increase their level to 30. Characters who reach this milestone will gain additional feats and power, and they will be able to wield and even construct new weapons and treasures to face the foes that challenge them.
Another Epic feat at 30, gotcha.
Additional powers…. Hum worried this may be too much power creep.

New Festivals
The coming year will bring new festivals; a mimic event where players have to hunt down mimics that have infested all the corners of the land. The autumn will also bring a new seasonal festival that will haunt your favorite places and provide characters with more treats than tricks.
The question is do we get rid of the Blue Snow in Eveningstar. It hurt the eyes.

Robert “Severlin” Ciccolini

How about new races, Dragonborn for example.
Dragonborn make a lot of sense from a storyline situation, with them being early inhabitants from Abeir (Toril’s long lost Twin Planet) on Faerûn and in Eberron where they are the descendants of Dragons living in Argonessen.

You have expressed the problems concerning Tieflings reworking Helmets, why not take the same approach that you did with Docents and Warforged and have Tiefling only Helmets?

What about a new starting zone?

How about an Expansion for the 10th Anniversary?

Would you spend some money to make all the Epic Raids reworked to be level 32?

I say this to be applied generally, as a non-fanboi-of-tieflings:

Don't worry so much about cosmetics.

Nobody is really going to care about not having a tail, and it is perfectly fine for helms to fully hide horns (a player can just turn off helmet display if they'd rather see their horns).

This is a game fueled by build options, don't sacrifice more depth for lack of visuals.

I do not see difficulties, the succubus has a tail so I think the animation could be used. As already mentioned a player can just turn off helmet display if they'd rather see their horns.

Fixed it for you. Congratulations on your promotion by the way, hopefully it goes well.

From my perspective you fixed a problem that didn't need to be fixed and escalated power creep in the game. A few changes to the existing ship buffs and everyone would have been happy.

Yeah about that, please stop doing that. People want new content not a rehashing of older content.
IMHO all the content that has both Epic and Heroic Versions should become one or the other and the other version shut off.

Should be kept:
Heroic Phairlan Carnival
Heroic 3BC
Heroic Red Fens
Heroic Sentinels of Stormreach
Heroic Demon Sands
Heroic Gianthold
Heroic Wheloon
Heroic Litany of the Dead
Heroic Secrets of the Storm Horns
Heroic Heart of Madness
Epic Vault of Night (The Raid needs to be level 32 though)
Epic Druids Deep (Needs an explorer area though)
Epic High Road of Shadow

No...I wholeheartedly disagree. DDO is currently run by a skeleton crew at turbine as it is. I actually advocate just the opposite. I suggest they give us epic versions of ALL heroic content...and vice versa....Heroic versions of ALL epic content.

We need more content at all levels, and if they have to recycle content to give us that...then so be it.

They just don't have the staff to completely start from scratch and still deliver enough content.

The reason they have a skeleton crew is because they haven't given players enough content to stick around, In my guild these players come back about once a year and check for new content, play it a few times and leave. As often as I have heard DDO still needs new content it make me very upset.
As for delivering with a skeleton crew Epic 3BC is a great example, according to a former Franchise Director it cost almost as much to create an Epic Version of the existing 3BC as it would have to create a whole new adventure pack, if that is the case why not spend the few dollars more to create the new content?

The other version of each of those needs to be reimagined into new adventure packs with new content. We can only take running the Gateway to Khyber soooooooo many times.

I too feel that some Heroic/Epic packs should be set in just one but my list would be very different from yours...

Epic Carnival {Seriously - This pack has never fitted in at Lvl 5!}

Heroic High Road and Druid's Deep - Neither of these packs scream Epic - In fact the Heroic Versions could do with being reduced by at least 5 levels!

Epic 3BC has been done well and is different to Heroic - BOTH should stay!

E-GH was done badly apart from Fall of Truth itself - BUT unless we get like 10 NEW quests to replace them we need to keep the Epic versions.
Same for E-Orchard.

Vault of Night - The only reason to keep this Epic is because of the XP - Taking away the Heroic version would cause players to leave in their droves though!
Taking away E-Wiz King would probably cause quite a bit of anguish too!

Fens/Sentinels/Storm Horns and Heart of Madness I actually agree on.

Personally, I'm ok with epic versions of heroics and I really enjoyed E3BC. I think the changes to the monsters, quest plots and sometimes the pathing combined with the differences between players' heroic and epic selves provide an interesting contrast and the re-use of settings to tell continuing stories is perfectly natural. I also really appreciate being given free content updates for packs I bought years ago, although that doesn't mean as much if you're vip I guess.

Please consider this suggestion for epic greensteel https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/441880-Trollerific-Suggetion-for-Epic-Green-Steel

“Epic vale quests again...”

Our current plan is to redo the Vale quests, and keep the raid mechanics mostly intact with a new encounter at the end. Some of the Vale quests really need to be revamped.

I love the idea of having a 6th new part to shroud for epic. I had always hoped it would be something that bridged the story gap between the end of shroud and the beginning of TOD. Follow Harry to his lair in shavarath and subdue him there where he is more powerful and has lots of lieutenants?

Looking forward to it all! :)

I'm VIP and I have to admit, I like it too. Sure you can argue that it's reused content, but what if I like that content?

I have no idea how much content they can put out, but if it's either an epic version of an existing pack or nothing.. I know which one I want.
(Based on an educated guess that it would be less work to create an epic version of something than building new epic quests from scratch)

And you mentioned multiple good reasons as to why the heroic and epic version can still be totally different experiences.

The reason they have a skeleton crew is because they haven't given players enough content to stick around.
Do you realize how much that "battle cry" is whined about in just about every single MMO out there?

Players for the most part have high expectations (that many probably don't realize) and when that expectation isn't met, they leave. These game hoppers are prolific and there isn't much any company can do about them.

But sorcs already don't run risk of running dry, thanks to regenerating mana, cheap slas, mana pots and shrines everywhere.
Warlock would need to foucs on CC/debuffs- low damage, but each spell adds CC or debuf effect.

Fens/Sentinels/Storm Horns and Heart of Madness I actually agree on.

Personally I think too much content is poorly placed level wise in DDO. Its like they take a good idea and then attempt to smash the 4" square peg in a 2" round hole. I understand why it happens but there are times I want to scream bloody murder.

From my list.
The Phairlan Carnival for example is a quest that storyline wise fits better at say level 10 than it does at level 5 and clearly is not a Epic Story Line.
Druids Deep is one I originally had as Heroic, putting a level 18 Adventure Zone with it on the east bank of the Starwater River would be great. I am not sure why in the end I changed it, it was late and I am sure I was drinking more than a Diet Coke.
Epic High Road of Shadow, again is something that doesn't fit storyline wise at level 24 which it is placed, simply setting at a more appropriate level say level 20 or 21 with out any other changes would make it fit.

As much as I love the Gianthold the epic version does nothing for me and I loathe to run the quests. The Raid is interesting but I am sure that our current boring strategy was not intended when it was designed.

Epic Orchard is well ummmm... I go back to what our former Franchise Director said making Epic Versions cost nearly as much as new and saves us only a little bit of time (I'll have to find the exact quote) why not make the new content. It could have been so much more interesting and fun and ...

The problem with Epic Demon Sands is that it is not a complete Epic, no explore no.... Again I would love to see an Epic Menechtarun pack and would gladly pay for it, maybe an explorer area 1/2 the size and 5 quests. It just makes perfect sense for me.

I totally get game hoppers, all you have to do is watch new games and ...
But something I see in DDO that I don't see in many other games is how often players come back and play for a little while. On Khyber alone last night I saw four players who have been gone for six seven eight months I am sure they will be gone again in a week or so, many want to stay but the issue is rerunning the same old content. I wonder how many would stay even a month longer or two months if there was a second starter zone.

Tempest Spine
Chronoscope
The Shroud
Caught in the Web
VoN 5
Twilight Forge

The above are what Vellrad wants more of I'd say.

As opposed to:

ADQ2
Reaver's Fate
Vision of Destruction
Fall of Truth
Mark of Death

Which are all basically one room Boss Fights!

Now one room Boss Fights can work fine if given a little extra:

Abbot
Hound of Xoriat
Lord of Blades
Master Artificer

But I'm with Vellrad on this one - Let's have some more REAL Raids like Tempest Spine and Caught in the Web please!

P.S. Caught in the Web is a REAL Raid done badly - Try to get them right please!

Something like that.

Or, since it is further corrupted... Red Steel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Steel_%28boxed_set%29)

That's what I mean by real raids.
Some 1 room encounters are interesting, and by adding lenghty run through wilderness, I don't consider hox, vod, ma or lob just a boss beat up; in case of first you must slaugther through hordes of devils to get into raid, in case of second pair in addition to beating wilderness you are also faced with some trash fights.
For me, running through wilderness is part of raid itself.

Raid should be something that takes preparation, planning and time to complete, not just go in and kill boss, loot, recall. There should be multiple bosses, each with different skills and tactcis and special abilities.

To people that say: 'i dont haf time to long quest/raids i hav family/work/sickdog!!1!' I reply: raid can be split into phases, after completing phase 1 when you enter next time you are placed in phase 2, and so on, until you finish entire thing and receive timer.

This is something I seriously do not understand. I can cap an epic life easily in less than a week after ER, playing 2-4 hours per day.

Warlock not my preferred class to see but it is an okay choice. I am really hoping that Acolyte of the Skin will be one of their enhancement trees as I have given up in having a demon skined Sorc but a warlock may be something else all together.

More than anything though I would like to see some more illusion arcane spells. Illusory Wall, Shadow Conjuration/Evocation in particular interest me. Have to wait for gnomes for that it seems.

Can't be too low of damage, thanks to blanket boss immunities. One thing that is both good and I'm really, really wondering how they're gonna handle it, regarding debuffs though, is that the Spell Level for Eldritch Blast is supposed to be the Warlock's class level divided by 2. So a level 18 warlock has all their eldritch blast effects going off of the DC and SR (though DDO may remove the SR part, like they did for Fireball) of a 9th level spell. So if you put, say, Eldritch Chain and Brimstone Essence together, it'd be a lowish (I think tabletop the max damage of Eldritch Blast is 14d6) damage chain-lighting that is fire-damage, and if memory serves, inflicts a fire DoT and Nauseates the victims if they fail a fort save. It's stinky to everyone (brimstone and all that) but you've gotta get hit with it to really get that 'oh god, get it out of my nose!!!' effect.

... I wonder how many would stay even a month longer or two months if there was a second starter zone.

I tend to agree. I joined DDO about a year and a half ago and I have not gone through all the content (probably not even half of it) but I have created many characters. The low level quest (I lost count of how many times I've run them) are starting to bore me.

When I look at the high level quest, it is obvious that there are less of them at higher levels than low and the XP needed to get to the next level is harder to find. BUT, once you get there a few times you run out of reasons to come back until there is new content.

It would probably be as bad as creating a new game, but having a second starting area and chain of quests to follow from level 1 to level 20 would sell. Marketed right, it could prolong the game's lifetime.

I was thinking something like levels 1 through 20 in Forgotten Realms (or 1 through 16ish). Design them for experience players so you get to choose to start in the Forgotten Realms when you TR or if you are a VIP (or those with the Transport to Forgotten Realms button on the login screen). If they are focused on returning/experience players, the "starter area" doesn't need to be a tutorial (the way Korthos is) and the level 1 through 3 quests could have proper difficulty levels.

Taken to the extreme (I'm dreaming now) you have Eberron for first life starting, Forgotten Realm for TR, and for those who want an extreme challenge, you get to start in Dark Sun where magic items simply don't work after your second TR (i.e. must be a 36 point build).

Want to know how good you really are? Try Epic Elite without any gear. That is Dark Sun.

Not just no magic items. If memory serves, /metal/ is ultra-expensive on Athas, so even having a poorly-made iron sword would be a high-level accomplishment. And divine magic simply doesn't exist, while arcane magic sucks the life force out of you and everything around you.

This obviously isn't going to happen in 2015, but if there is a major paid expansion in 2016 it could include a new starter area. I have been advocating The City of Waterdeep, Undermountain, and Skullport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterdeep) as one large expansion. The 2nd starter area for level 1 characters could be set in the City of Waterdeep and have an urban flavor (e.g., Thieves Guild, sewers beneath the City, etc.) as an alternative to the village of Korthos and its wilderness explorer area on Korthos Island.

I wonder how many would stay even a month longer or two months if there was a second starter zone.
I won't disagree with your question there. Even lotro has a different starter region per race.

Korthos isn't a bad one... but I think startign regions need to be rethought.

I don't find Waterdeep to be too likely, honestly. However...Tantras or Daggerdale could work (I'd love to see Tantras) or if they wanted ultra-magical, what's left of Halruua. Or someplace near Chult for a FR starting area (DINOS!)

Or (snicker) The Hive in Sigil. Just don't take the dustmen's offer of 50 jink, because there won't be any rezzing then. Just zombie-time.

I might stomach more FR if they did put in some more low level quests but so many are against adding any new low level content. I don't really ever want to seem them try to do dark sun or Dragonlance as they cant do it right either of those would take special rules or restrictions and would really require their own games.

Warlock isn't a core class since we aren't 5E soulblade would be a much better choice since psionics are so much a part of eberron

If the 5E soulblade is anything similar to 3.x soulknife, that seems to be more psi flavor than actually psi driven, where in the biggest issue is trying to apply loot gen/named powers to character created weaponary. I just don't see that happening.

Also 3.x, 4.x, 5x.... You know I really don't care any more. This is a DnD video game with its own homebrewed rules. Pick what you like, double check for balance, and make it fun. Screw "purist" attitudes, we are gamers.

If you have, congratulations. you've got the spirit every Dungeon Master needs. Curiosity and the desire to make changes, to do things differently because your idea is better than the other guy's-- these are the most important things a Dungeon Master needs. Yeah about that, please stop doing that. People want new content not a rehashing of older content.
IMHO all the content that has both Epic and Heroic Versions should become one or the other and the other version shut off.

Should be kept:
Heroic Phairlan Carnival
Heroic 3BC
Heroic Red Fens
Heroic Sentinels of Stormreach
Heroic Demon Sands
Heroic Gianthold
Heroic Wheloon
Heroic Litany of the Dead
Heroic Secrets of the Storm Horns
Heroic Heart of Madness
Epic Vault of Night (The Raid needs to be level 32 though)
Epic Druids Deep (Needs an explorer area though)
Epic High Road of Shadow
The other version of each of those needs to be reimagined into new adventure packs with new content. We can only take running the Gateway to Khyber soooooooo many times.

Why?

While i can understand if you would prefer they don't upgrade any more existing packs, what would be the point of going back and doing more work to remove existing content? Content that many people actually do like?

If you don't like some of it, don't run it. It really is that simple.

You do realize that the "Golden Age" of DDO endgame/epic that so many vets hearken back to consisted entirely of upgraded heroic packs?

The original version of High Road was only epic and Druids Deep was only heroic. They put in the heroic/epic versions because people asked them to.

I think if they wanted to do Soulknife (within current game play) they would need to allow Weapon Attachment as part of the class and grant them Artie weapon augmentation spells....with a few tweaks...enhancement trees could mirror EK and Kensai...after all they are one with the blade.

3.5 Soulknife wasn't psi flavor...they were straight up base Psionic class. The idea was that they channel the Psionics in them through limited spells and in the tangible form of their blade.

But sorcs already don't run risk of running dry, thanks to regenerating mana, cheap slas, mana pots and shrines everywhere.
Warlock would need to foucs on CC/debuffs- low damage, but each spell adds CC or debuf effect.

SP management is still an acquired skill, and i see casters of all types running dry all the time. Sans exploits, SP pots are not infinite, unless somebody is willing to constantly buy them from the store. If people are willing to do that, then it's a good source of income for the game. I don't have a problem with that.

I know where they put the soulknife, but it never felt psionic other than 'I create a blade with my mind." They never had a power pool to do anything "psionic". Heck, remove "wild talent" from the class but leave everything else. Emm.. yeah. Flavor. But that is my opinion of them. *shrugs*

I can't state what kind of issues it would create...but as a quick thought that's how I would envision them to use those mechanics as a jumping off point into adding them to the game.

The Temple of Elemental Evil may begin as low as level 7 from earlier comments made on this forum by the devs (but with an Epic version, of course) so that the content is accessible by new players immediately. The TOEE update will draw in an entirely new group of people who may have never played DDO before.

I think that the FR setting in DDO is probably done, no more new content which frankly I am perfectly fine with. I think "the powers that be" made DDO go to the FR as a marketing move and frankly it didn't work as the game continues to contract as it ages (which is normal really). I wish they had spent all that dev time on more Eberron content. I loved the FR campaign setting but fine with it not being in DDO.

Why do I say this? Nothing in 2015 and the dev's have already talked about scrapping things like the desert because they don't have the budget anymore to create new assets. Thus why doing things like more Madness quests and Sharavath, they can reuse a lot of assets already in the game and this makes it a lot cheaper to add new content.

I think they can generate more interest in the game to new players and returning old ones by continuing to adapt the older classic modules like Temple and Haunted Halls. Get some more of those classics and you'll see more interest like what is already being generated with the Temple announcement.

Either way I am just glad the game is continuing to grow content and not be left for dead just yet.

The Golden Age, to me, never was what you were referring to. I am more of Module 8 Prisoners of Prophecy kind of Dwarf.

Turbine created Heroic/Epic Versions of High Road of Shadow and Druid's Deep because it was a quick way to add content at the appropriate level. The problem is it was a short term gain and a long term loss. As stated else where I am totally cool if Druid's Deep stayed Heroic and as others have said wouldn't be too bother if it lost a level or two.

As for removing the other version, to kill cancer you don't treat the symptoms you remove the cancerous cells.
Way back in late 2009 when the Developers at Turbine decided to Make Vault of Night Epic. It was a short term solution for a problem that individuals like Fernando Paiz thought was a short term issue as Turbine was already in discussion with Wizards of the Coast for the rights to create Epic Version of the Game set in the Forgotten Realms. I'm sure that the mind set at Turbine was Level 23 was coming in late 2010 as opposed to June 2012 when the made the decision in 2009. But that is an assumption based on what Fernando said in a variety of places.

I have posted on this topic before and to be clear I don't feel you just tomorrow turn off Epic Demon Sands, rather create a new Epic Adventure Pack set in another section of Menechtarun reusing much of the same artwork with new quests and new adventure area. Give players who own Demon Sands a deal on the new content and go on with life.

Additional I have posted a paraphrasing of what Fernando and Aaron have stated that creating Epic Versions of exisiting content costs almost as much as creating new content, if that is true creating epic version of existing content makes no sense in terms of how many players have left this game out of shear boredom in terms of the quests to run.

The FR content was released in conjunction with the WotC/Hasbro-driven content push of 2012-2013. Eliciting interest through combined media efforts was a decision made far above the pay grade of most, if not all, Turbine employees. Now that the 5.x rule set has landed I don't know where those marketing dollars will be assigned, but it would appear that NWO is the current child of favor (http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/release-rise-tiamat).

A cancer eh?

I'm still not seeing any benefit of altering the entire game to accommodate your lack of self control. I hate Brussels Sprouts, but i have never demanded that they be removed from the market. You know why? Because i can just not eat them.

Why would they have to remove current Epic desert quests to put in new ones? Is it full or something?

I personally think it would be a good idea if every quest pack they made had both a heroic and an epic version. Again if you prefer that each quest be either epic or heroic only, you can easily simulate that by simply not running the version you wish wasn't there.

I have no numbers, but i am curious if development costs are recouped typically entirely by people purchasing newly released packs?

I can see expansions, but let's be honest, the vast majority of players who have been here a while have more than enough free turbine points from questing to buy any new pack that comes out. Only newish players will be likely to invest large amounts of money to acquire content. Making the content as appealing as possible helps with this, especially for older packs.

Whenever people in game ask me for advice about which older packs to buy, i generally tell them to get ones that have epic versions available. One of the guys in my channel is fairly new, he has only one epic character and he never plans to do a tr. He bought Demon Sands, Von, Gianthold, etc. ONLY because they had epic versions. Take those versions out, and he doesn't buy them. I doubt he is the only person like that.

As to your first comment about Druids Deep, the end reward lists are the evidence.

ToEE will bring a bump in new players. And, as I recall with the last paid expansion, they did not release it for purchase with TPs right away. So, if you wanted any of the "bonus features" offered with the pack, you paid cash. I can't imagine why they would do it differently this time.

As for "vast majority" having enough TPs - not among my friends and guildies. Among my friends 4500+ TPs is rare. Probably a few have more now because they bought during double TPs but that won't last, plenty of things in the Store to spend TPs on.

A cautious thank you (and a raucous thank you and possibly gifts if it actually happens), but if you do have to decide to pull it, and are going to leave it as effectively the lowest tier of loot as the game progresses, then can you make it MUCH less tortuous to level so that the reward of doing so will be consummate with the effort?

Hi Severlin,

you was not speaking about new features in the AI or Misc functions for 2015- for me I would nearly pay any price for a "search all" function for all inventories and all banks for all of my Chars on the same server.
I loose lots of time seeking for items stored on others chars/banks/invetory and would love to save that search marathons.
Any chance that we will se it in the future?

Best regards
Tarinia

Agreed. Even with a ton of mules designed to reduce my searching pleasure - sometimes what I'm looking for some other active character is wearing - making the search nearly futile. Or I find - yep, I've got it - whoops, it's BTC. Worse - now I'm on two servers, and I sometimes think I have something on one server only to discover, nope it was on the other. Like you Tarinia, I would pay real TP for this feature.

p.s. For those of you who might wonder what a second or even third server would bring to the party - I use them to test multi-classes that sound good on paper but often suck when actually played. This matters a lot when someone waxes poetic about their uber-build on the forums and I discover it doesn't really match my play style.

Severlin,

Are Mysterious Fragments going to be a currency or an ingredient?

I hope you'll consider making it a new currency. If it doesn't go into inventory/bags/banks the risk of an unforseen exploit popping up in the future that undermines its value would be severely decreased. And it would remain tradeable between players. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I'm worried that these Mysterious Fragments will be at risk for being exploited in the future if they do end up being ingredients that go into bags/inventory/banks.

Modifying all the helmets in the game for horns *and* modifying all the animations to add a tail turns out to be really, really costly in time and art.

At this point you're going to have to make "costly" content to get me to come back. Although Warlocks, new Monster Manuals and Temple of EE is a good start.

Why don't you make new epic level areas so we will have brand spanking new quest's to get too 30th level. Also, I have friends that ask you how can it be a Dungeon and Dragons game that doesn't need Clerics/Healers at the epic levels? They say that wouldn't fly in PnP. Yes we know its not PnP but a video game, and we also know its difficult to make everyone happy but, no healers needed??

It's not only about turning PnP into a mmorpg, it's also about making something that is financially smart/feasible.
There's reason this isn't the same DDO it was when they just released it.
