View Full Version : Update 24: Hall of Heroes

Hey, everyone!

As you may have seen in this weekend's release notes, for Update 24 we've made some changes to the two Hall of Heroes spaces:

There is now an entrance to the Eberron Marketplace to the right of the entrance where players enter the Eberron Hall of Heroes from the Character Select screen. The entrance from The Marketplace now leads to this location as well.
A new Stormreach Teleporter has been created in a new room across from the location where players enter the Eberron Hall of Heroes from the Character Select screen.
There is now an Airship Access point next to the new Stormreach Teleporter in the Eberron Hall of Heroes.
There is now an exit to Eveningstar to the right of the entrance where characters enter the Forgotten Realms Hall of Heroes from the Character Select screen. The entrance from Eveningstar now leads to this location in the Forgotten Realms Hall of Heroes.
Exits to Eveningstar from the Hall of Heroes now give players the option to be sent to Eveningstar, the Eveningstar Cavern, Wheloon, or the Thunder Peaks.
There are now Bankers, Auctioneers, and General Vendors on the upper floor of both the Eberron and Forgotten Realms Hall of Heroes.
A Fatespinner has been added to both the Eberron and Forgotten Realms Hall of Heroes.

(In addition, Airship Captains will now take you to the Eberron Hall of Heroes as well).

Why the change?
We'd received some feedback that the Hall was not viewed as generally useful; not enough resources (vendors, etc), and what was there was... well, really far apart. This change adds some new NPCs, changes the location of a few things and should make travelling around a little bit easier.

Why are there two copies of certain things now?
Some people may like where the old NPC locations are, and (at least for U24) we don't have immediate plans to use that corner of the Hall.

It would be cool if the Hall had (Insert Cool Thing Here)!
Additional changes may not happen for U24, but if you have thoughts about things to add or ways to make this space better, or just want to tell us you like/don't like the new changes - please let us know!

thx! I would create a statue for uber triple completionist/epic completionist toons. Let them choose final form, race, outfit, pose etc and a special buff of their choice (like an airship amenity) with short plaque featuring an inspirational statement the player can write.
To have the statue, the toon becomes RETIRED and can no longer be played--enters into the realm of legend.
This is the endgame--not raids and gear etc.
Edit: This is optional--not forced on player!

As long as it requires a log out and back in to switch between the two I just don't see myself going there except to reincarnate.

Maybe if I was not in a guild it would be an ok base of operations to start from.

Good to see u guys making some use out of that useless place...

I was one of the (insert a regreat self punishing word here) who bought the halls with the expectation of having a easy connection between the worlds .. and what i got was a button on the char selection and that was it for a XXX amount of TP

now lets go to the (insert your expected thing here.. [no, not even cool.. just minimum] )
a easy connection between worlds.. a bridge just like the rift... w/o having to log out.. (yeah log out and back just for that is dumb)

now the (cool thing)

if u paid for the hall u will receive a feat, key or whatever to transport u to a choosen hall world every 10 or less mins..

It would be cool

1) If a player could travel directly from Eberron to Forgoten Realms & visa virsa.

That was the Halls origin intent, selling point, then it was taken away. we want it back.

2) if the Hall of heroes wasn't so convoluted with doors to eberron and the reincarnation trainer miles apart on the rediculously empy space. Why is there a Gaint pool in there to jump in the have a ladder to get out ( we all know how well ladders work) the top and bottom floors for no real reason as well.

Keep it simple straightforward and less like running through the Stormhorns to get to a quest please.

We'd received some feedback that the Hall was not viewed as generally useful

I still feel cheated out of the Turbine points I spent on this useless garbage. No matter what vendors you add, I won't stop feeling cheated until I either get a refund, or you actually implement what you promised the Hall of Heroes was supposed to have: fast transport between Eberron & Forgotten Realms.

Having to log out and log back in cannot, ever, in any imaginable universe, count as "fast transport". That's just deceitful marketing.

Running from my guild ship to the Harbor, to the Spinners Prison, to the Eveningstar Cavern, to Eveningstar, is faster. And doesn't introduce noticeable memory leakage.

It would be cool if the Hall had (Insert Cool Thing Here)!
Additional changes may not happen for U24, but if you have thoughts about things to add or ways to make this space better, or just want to tell us you like/don't like the new changes - please let us know!

Save yourself some work: scrap having 2 separate Halls. Have just one Hall, that exits to both Eberron and Forgotten Realms. Done.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a suggestion. My suggestion is to make it a real Hall of Heroes. Place the Founder stuff from the Harbor in there and make the statues list the names of 3x completionists (just the toons name) or toons that reached some notable achievement.

EDIT ~ just throwing out an idea for some "notable acheivement", list name on statue for 20 CiTW or 100th Shroud? Or perhaps the names of someone who pulled all the CiTW weapons? Or perhaps fastest completion time for Haunted Halls exteneded (I'm at 20 minutes with all named chests looted).

I agree with this, I never understood the whole 2 Halls thing. Even for what they did requiring a logout to change worlds, just have 2 portals and make one inactive depending on where you were coming from.

Would have been cool if this was a place found in the Demonweb with an occassional random monster passing through - but through some Swiss like peace keeping, no fighting allowed.

I like this idea. Or, the memorials should grant a one of kind buff (like Nat Gann), See Invisibility for an hour or some such.

What else?

1) How about a permanent Jester?

2) How about a vendor who allows the exchange of any collectable in the game?

3) Per my suggestion on the PC for guild ships, how about a library with a map you can view of any explorer area? Or the old monster stories which should be part of the MM but aren't.

4) I haven't looked in a while, but there should be a vendor selling every pot, scroll and spell component in the game without haven't to go all over. Granted, some guilds have this, many don't.

Overall, if you want the space used and to assuage bitter feelings for those who purchased it, the space needs more value to involve spending time there. Personally, especially for small guilds or the unguilded, I would love it if HoH provided some guild type buffs. Again - it is about giving value to a TP purchase.

P.S. - Not level 200 buffs, but, say 3 permanent buffs (always gonna get) and 3 random buffs (entice people to see what else is available).

Wow that is a great idea!

This would be a huge boon to us folk that farm The Master's Gift (http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:The_Master%27s_Gift) for their toons and need to hit Delara's and Thernal often.

2. Statues of notable PnP heroes, authors, designers, etc with plaques that tell the story. Maybe they come to life or move around. Think Harry Potter and pictures on the walls.

3. Move Founders Wall into the hall and spruce it up nice.

4. Map of Eberron and FR.

With all due respect, Uska, imo, the Hall of Heroes was never meant to be, and is not, an immersive element to the game. It was a convenience option which has evolved into offering little convenience.

If you are in an RPG or permadeath group and want to exclude HoH from use, there is always that option. Again, you don't have to use it.

Waste of time. I think what most players wanted/expected was a simple SMALL hallway that connected Eberron to Forgotten Realms. Otherwise it's completely useless.

Waste of time. I think what most players wanted/expected was a simple SMALL hallway that connected Eberron to Forgotten Realms. Otherwise it's completely useless.

This.

I understand Uska's point about immersion, however, the Hall of Heroes is already irrelevant to immersion really. It is a deus ex machina, the machina in this case being it allows access to a bunch of convenience features like hub NPCs such as bankers etc, plus the reincarnation trainer and fast travel. Except, for some reason, fast travel between realms! This is a convenience location available for TP or subscription only. You are paying real money for nothing but convenience. So for the love of all that's logical why is this specific fast travel convenience not part of that?

We know that travel between the realms isn't a technical limitation: cave of eveningstar direct to guildship for instance, or the eveningstar key.

So just bite the bullet and put a portal between worlds there already. Better yet, just make the hall of heroes itself be one single place that exists between worlds, with an exit back to either place within, in the middle somewhere. Sustained by Elminster's smugness or something, there's plenty to go around.

Each entrance *from* a world could be at either end and in either direction you only ever have to run to the middle. And you can get from one world to the other without logging out for no readily apparent reason.

Everyone is happy. Just put a cross realm portal in already!

The Hall was great conceptually, but suffered from terrible design by committee it looks like.

It can be gigantic -that's fine, but the things players need should be clustered in one place. Immersion is great until you need to get to stuff over and over. Then immersion sucks.

I would take one floor in one section, and dedicate it to actual usefulness. I would eliminate the planar flavors of the Halls and combine them into one. The Hall should be a nexus -there shouldn't be multiple versions of it.

The number one requested feature is the only one that makes it worth 895 turbine points. We need gateways to Eberron and the Forgotten Realms in the same hall. What we have now is worth 0 turbine points. I am amongst the legion that feel absolutely ripped off by what I bought, not realizing that there would be no connection between the worlds via the Hall (logging off and back on does not count).

With the Hall combined, you suddenly have a great way to introduce travel to Greyhawke. The Hall as a nexus just lets you drop a gateway into another realm of existance. Those of us that paid 895 get to use the Forgotten Realms gateway and everyone can use the other gateways. There is nothing else of significant value in there anyway. It's not like we can't find Fate Spinners and general vendors in any of the worlds we visit.

TL : DR; combine the halls, cluster the amenities, PROVIDE GATEWAYS TO ALL THE WORLDS.

Edit: Actually I don't care about the 895 TP. I just want the hall to be useful. Everyone should be able to travel anywhere after they complete the appropriate flagging.

I was away from the game when the Hall of Heroes was introduced. I've wandered around in there a couple of times, and then pretty quickly wandered back out. I was just more underwhelmed and confused than anything. What was it supposed to be for then? What is supposed to be for now? How are these changes going to make it more useful for that purpose?

Until I can use the hall of heroes to switch from ebberon to faerun without logging out and in, and without having to complete the U13 quests, it will be useless to me.

I want to use the hall of heroes to be able to access faerun heroic content during TR lives. Especially the content that is a lower level than the u13 chain.

It took you that long to realize that place was useless? :|

Sorry, wasn't trying to be rude, I'm just a little baffled.

As for improvements: just fuse both instances of the Hall together, and put both an Eberron door and an ES door at the entrance, it would make that place way better. Needing to log out to do anything with that place is completely unattractive with the current excessive load times and memory leaks.

At least that way it could justify the price.

1. No it wouldnt

Reason being your prejudice of all things Realm.

Yeah we already know.

Remember that is what the Halls was advertised as and originally intended to be.

Logging in and out to change from Eberron to Forgonrealms using the halls in more immersion killing.

There is absolutely no reason once the rift existed that the 2 worlds can't be convientently connected.

Face it Uska. Forgotten Realms is here and it is not going away no matter how much you dump on every single feature that has anything to do with Forgotten Realms.

I noticed doors with 'icons' over them relative to events. Are these per design? Are they meant for Lamannia only? I saw a pirate flag, a pumpkin and a shiny disk. I am guessing cove, mabar, and risia.

If these are meant to go live, will they be a way to do the event areas anytime of the year?

I believe you could teleport to the location of those events, or that was the intent. I do not think the were WAI for some time, although they were fixed not too long ago I thought. As so few players use the Halls for teleportation, I doubt anyone uses them regularly for that purpose, even if functional, as they are not easily accessed.

Those are already available on the live server. They only work when the events are active. (or at least that is my understanding)

This may be a stupid question, but couldn't the Hall simply be part of Sigil? That would solve all the continuity errors and actually add to immersion, as well as opening the door to Athas, Greyhawk, Kara Tur, etc. The artwork would have to be changed, and I realize that takes time, but I personally believe that this would be good for the game.

The Halls will be absolutely *useless* until they're *convenient*.

How to make them convenient? As so many people have said, and with a few additions I haven't seen:

1) Make them smaller. They weren't built by giants!
2) Make them one - situate the hall in the Demonweb, with stable pathways.
3) Make it a transport nexus - have a way to get to any practically zone in the game. Stormreach Teleporter, doorways to 3BC, Ataraxia, Vale, GH, Reaver's Refuge, Amrath, etc on one end. Doorways to Eveningstar Marketplace, Estar Cavern, Wheloon, the other end of the Estar bridge (near Storm Horns/Thunderholme) at the other end. Guild portal at both ends. Basically any place that already features a transport to of some sort, with a couple of "convenience" extras (actually, just the one across the Estar bridge...)
3a) Forget teleporting from the ship; give everyone with access to it a feat (a FEAT, mind you, not an item!) that allows transport there, every 10 minutes. Cooldown to start *after* transport. Alternatively, make the feat an hour and rework the Eveningstar Key to be HoH transport with a 10 minute cooldown.
4) Every vendor possible. At each end *or* in the center. Hirelings, scroll components, potions, scrolls, bolts - if it's for sale anywhere, it's for sale in the Hall of Heroes. And don't have one guy selling L1 Divine stuff, and another selling L2 Divine stuff - give all the divine stuff to one guy, all the arcane stuff to another.
5) Festival vendors, year-round. You may not be able to earn the ings except in special times, but you should be able to spend them anytime. Let me buy Mabar wraps for my brand-new monk that I just rolled up, even though it's December. I don't want to wait until October! (Yes, this happened to me, because I got the monk class a week after Mabar ended the first time). Put 'em near the doorways to the events. Extra bonus if there's a bank nearby.

A guild transport to the Eberron HoH is nice... but it's really rather pointless, because there's nothing there worth going to that you can't get to much more conveniently *except* the Reincarnation Grove. Not even the FR HoH. Until and unless you make it convenient, it's going to remain a barren wasteland and a bone of contention for everybody who bought it.

Put an airship tower and teleporter right next to the Auctioneer in Eveningstar, then let me go straight to Eveningstar from my Airship Captain, any Stormreach teleporter, or using the Teleport spell (after completing the relevant quest chain). Rip out all access points to the Hall of Heroes and repurpose the space as a dungeon. Why all these convoluted travel requirements? Lore? *laughs* Make something up!

Adventurer: Hello, Haywire. Why did you build a new airship tower and teleporter in the middle of your foundry? I thought you liked your privacy.

Haywire: Ah! These are a gift for you, my friend!

Adventurer: Really? You shouldn't have. No. Really. You shouldn't have.

Haywire! No, no! Let me explain. As you well know from your recent adventures, a planar rift recently developed between our world and a far away plane, allowing travel between those places. It is a long walk, my friend, and I do not enjoy walking. So, I had an idea. You see, by creating a pair of spatially locked astral beacons in close proximity, then moving them apart while taking care not to violate Bigby's Law of Planar Transience Degradation, it becomes possible to move a Cannith Teleporter directly from our realm to a remote planar location, while maintaining an active link to all local teleporters!

Adventurer: Ah... Okay...

Haywire: Now, all I need do is fire up this Cannith planar energy modulation generator, turn these knobs, adjust for planar crossdrift variances, and... POOF!

Adventurer: Haywire! What did you do! You just vaporized my useless airship tower and teleporter! You know how much I hate disintegrate spells!

Haywire: *laughs* No, no, my friend. Again, you do not understand. I have relocated your airship tower and teleporter to the central square of the place called Eveningstar. You can now travel back and forth between Stormreach and Eveningstar using your airship or any teleporter.

Adventurer: Haywire... You... GENIUS! YES! YES! Now, about that defense for Disintegrate spells I asked for...

Haywire: I am still working on that.

Meanwhile...

Gandolfminster: What ye frodo is THAT???

Those do already work, provided the event is on - in Ebberon it brings you to the start of the Risia jumps, to the treasure island for CC and to Dalara's for Mabar. In FR it brings you to the start of the festivult, not sure if there is any other (or does the CC one work from there too, not sure?).

I do agree with the great idea to include the list of founders in the halls somewhere and a miniature of the Gygax and Anderson ones with a teleport to the areas would be great as well, both thematically and functionally.

And I would really think adding the event trade in persons to the Hall of Heroes would help make them usefull. Especially a Mabar one to let us trade in the leftover motes etc we had because it ended before time not to ever return (yes, I had just farmed up, and had wanted to trade in next day :-(, pretty sure there is many of us), but the other ones would be very nice too, to enable us to trade in with leasure.

- Leave the size as it is, doesn't matter(waste of time making it smaller), just put all the nice stuff next to each other
- Add Stormreach Teleport
- Add Eberron & Evening portal next to each other
- Add all the trainers, epic included
- Add all vendors
- Add Airship Teleport
- Bank, Auction, Mail Reincarnation groove next to the above mentioned stuff(they already there)

Kind of Lammania Dojo.

Then if you like any silly thing with statue I really don't care, use the rest of useless space the way you want.

If you make those change I think almost everybody want to have the Hall of Heroes.

There are 2 ways to fix that:

- Make the Hall worth 795 TP or refund player that have already bought it.

If you are going to add more vendors to the Hall of Heroes, will you pretty please add vendors for spellpower pots? It'd be nice to have an all-in-one spot to buy these instead of having to zip around town.

In my opinion, the Hall of Hero's is too big. The artwork is great, and pretty neat to look at, but other than my first stroll through the place, I never go there other than to TR or teleport a first lifer to FR before they have a key.

I beleive if the place were smaller and laid out more similar to the Dojo on Lamania with useful NPC's/portals in a smaller more centrally located room, it would get more use. I guess it's too late to go back and redesign the place.

Past life imbue. Bonuses are only for those that have the feat of certain past life. Could sell it as a potion or crunch a certain item to give an item a imbue similar to Stone of Change recipes. If this sort of imbue available only in at hall of heroes it be similar to having to have sharavath pack to have the favor potions.

Also Dreaming Dark quest keeps track of what raids a character has completed, perhaps have a similar NPC bard to say the same about the character when they enter for flavor :)

Agreed with others that the Hall is just too huge. Shift the entrances if you can so that it is not such a hike, or else create an intra-Hall-teleporter at the entrances, with destinations for each exit (eberron, FR, and the grove), and to wherever else is useful.

The purpose was to be sort of a 'hub' space, making getting around easier.

So you made a 'hub' that leads no where? ..How does that work?

Also, every time we ask for an easier way to travel to the to Forgotten Realms you answer that "behind-the-scenes things have prevented us from adding something like this". What are those behind the scene things? Surely the game can handle it, is it legal reasons? Did WotC allow you to use the FR ONLY if you made it tedious to travel there?

other cool ideas for NEW PLAYERS:
1) a map room where complete maps appear of explorer areas. Yeah, I use the wiki too but this would be internal to the game
2) a lore element--click on the statue and here a lecture about particular race, creature, etc. Include halflings alongside other beasts.
3) armory element-- like lore above. Imagine a weapon master that shows stregnths and weaknesses of, say, shortswords
4) a beastiary--like 2 but a zoo. Look in fish tank at Beholder (no worries, 1-way glass) with further tips on how to deal with it. I would put here also a Medusa, undead room, succubus, Ice flenser--what else?

These could be fun and educational

Based on some comments the Devs made back in 2012....WOTC required that there was a logical story (Lore) that would allow travel between Eberron and FR. I believe that WOTC put some big restrictions on Turbine regarding this. I am guessing that anything related to travel between the 2 planes must be approved by WOTC before we can see it in DDO.

I don't think Turbine is trolling us here...their hands are tied.

as for the teleport function without logging out you guys already have it in game. stuff like say restless isles or the captain near the airship for reavers refuge. They ask you if you talked to people etc. so why can't you instead have it check to see if they own hall of heroes. way i see it working if it works then teleport just like normal. if not it will tell you don't have access and you can become vip or visit the ddo store.

Asking nicely over and over for turbine to work on things such as monster manuals or cannith crafting or reversing the butchery of random gen loot (frostproof of Listening 20) or providing an endgame has not worked. no one has asked hundreds of times for the hero halls to get improvements have they?

seems to me that logically if people never say anything about whats clearly a waste of time for fear of offending you guys, that you'll keep right on wasting time on things that arenot necessarilly needed. With so many things that could be recieving attention that players beg for over and over for years it often seems like tubines priorities are not well directed. hundreds beg for cannith crafting improvements but we get prettyier ship amenetys, hundreds ask for big random dungeons but we get air ship combat, hundreds ask for a real endgame but we get level 25 packs.

sometimes unwanted criticism is valid criticism

one things is of a certainty begging has not worked, but yet here we are trying to tell you there are better uses of manhours. hundreds of requests for the old costmetic kits to be put back into the store using the new cosmetic slot form factor have gone unheeded. No one asked for pretty new ship buff stations down below desks where almost no one ever goes, but a lot of people have asked for improvements to the old epic shard and seal system. No one asked for an three barrel cove pack to be made epic and then not even added to end game, we asked for Shroud a whole lot though. All that work on three barrel cove seems like a waste, lots of players said so. giant hold quests are way more popular still probably 10 to 1 more groups, seems we were right?

From out here it seems like we should probably be more critical not less. ghostbane at least got you guys to partially undo the wreckage even if it took a mob of angry players. yeah it took a lot of people being pretty unkind to turbine about their priorities to get them to budge on that issue. so yeah it looks a lot more likely to get something done than polite requests.

It would be cool if the hall had 7 statues each with a special buff (like ship buff) that worked only on its predetermined day of the weak. The buff would be minor--really oriented towards new players, like +1 acid touch, +1 undead bane, etc--stacking

The best thing you could do is the simplest; make it clear which door goes where.

I have it straight at this point but the first few times I had to go through the Halls I was confused and ran around like a fool.

Put a sign on the doors at least that you can see before you run all the way over there.

It shows why, in the real world, you need someone who knows how human traffic flows looking at your space in addition to the artist types to make the space look pretty.

Beyond labeling the doors, you need to redesign where they are.

Make a "Business End" of the Halls that has the Reincarnation Booth and all the needed doors right next to each other

Make the whole rest of the Halls the display and flavor stuff that players can look at if they wish.

The Halls seem as if they are designed to "force a tour" which can lead to user frustrations on repeat visits and have the opposite effect, with regard to appreciating the designers' work, than you intended.

TL : DR

The place does look really good. I just don't feel like taking the tour every single time.

One stop shopping vs. locally grown ( in multiple diverse localities ).

I know its DDO and not DnD......And "everyone" has run "every" quest, raid, event, explorer/wilderness area, and challenge a ZILLION times......

There are SO many things to gather/prepare/repair/bank/sell/buy/buff/craft/cosmetically modify/screenshot/mail to a buddy as a joke/etc......What is gamer to do?!?

A real dungeon master would not make the adventurers life "convenient" or an adventuring world "consumer friendly".

An online game might be different. Does it actually NEED to be?

Fun, fun, where is that fun?

It was here when the game started...when we expected to run to different house zones to get our equipment/arms/potions/spell components/buffs/and later mail/banking/auction/etc. Before...even...guild airships!

The Hall of Heroes (at first) looked (to me) to be more like a museum than a convenience store.

Selling "lottery tickets" there won't make DDO more memorable to anyone.

This also requires balance.

Yup, you could take my post as snarky and counterproductive if you choose, but really it was not. Counterproductive is wasting dev time and resources trying to Frankenstein the HoH into some semblance of usefulness after failing to deliver it as promised as a Eberron/E* hub. Look closely at what the other posters here are suggesting as what you'd call "constructive" feedback. It's all just more patchwork on top of the existing waste of space/code/bandwidth/whatever... If you're unable to make it be what it was meant to be, then adding vendors and teleports and whatnot is never going to make it worth the 895TP, and in now way counts as "improving the game" as you put it. Adding NEW, never before seen features like Event Crafters/Barters might be something, or (miracle of miracles) PLAYER HOUSING, then yeah, sure, go ahead and start coding. But seriously, of all the projects that have been started and subsequently abandoned, that REMAIN abandoned, the HoH is so far down on most of our priority lists as to be all but forgotten.
LrdSilverhand had some good suggestions, that's why I agreed with it and added my support. Wasting time on fluff I don't agree with and said as much. No Troll intended.

I couldn't agree more.

It is so disappointing the direction this game has turned since MoTU. The death of raiding and endgame. The egregious power creep which each new update. For the experienced gamer flush with meta game knowledge and years of gathering gear, there is nothing left to do but quit. There isn't any challenge.

The hue and cry for things we would like to see from Turbine somehow gets lost or ignored or silenced into oblivion. Instead, we get useless stuff like HoH. Just so nobody can be confused Steelstar, this little effort is just putting lipstick on the pig ( too bad this sow cant be processed into something useful like BACON!)

Turbine, you have casualized the game to death. And I am your newest casualty. After all these years, I thought the big delete was going to hurt. Yet, it was painless. U24 and even ToEE couldn't tempt me to change my mind.

My "cool idea" would be that if you purchased or otherwise have access to the Hall of Heroes, you could use the Guild Ship farshifter to send you to the Eveningstar Hall, thus having a teleport directly to FR content without having to use your key or walk through the Harbor portal. I'm honestly amazed at how cumbersome it still is to get to FR after all this time. It should have been a simple ship teleport ages ago.

The Hall of Hereos is far too large to be considered a convenience. In order to make these changes worthwhile, Please make the points of entry and transaction EASY and quick to get to and around. Leave the big open spaces their own place. Let folks explore if they want to, but please dont force me to run around all over the place to use the amenities. That complete defeats the point.

If the hold back on the Eberron portal to FR is WotC based, I'd be fine with providing the portal only after its ope via underdark completion. Or at leave give us a portal to the cavern.. Eberron side...

As you may have seen in this weekend's release notes, for Update 24 we've made some changes to the two Hall of Heroes spaces:

We'd received some feedback that ... what was there was... well, really far apart. This change adds some new NPCs, changes the location of a few things and should make travelling around a little bit easier.

I've always wondered why the Hall's architects bothered with the whole "Time and Relative Dimension in Space" to get the whole "bigger on the inside" thing if they weren't going to use the space.

I thought the retirement of Cruz from house J and the introduction of the Reincarnation Grove in the Hall of Heroes was completely unnessisary.

Hey, everyone!

As you may have seen in this weekend's release notes, for Update 24 we've made some changes to the two Hall of Heroes spaces:

Thank you , this has been something we have been waiting to see implemented.

However, behind-the-scenes things have prevented us from adding something like this to the Hall of Heroes, as much as we'd like to. It's not something we can add for U24, but we'll be looking into it for the future, as it's something we know players want.To bad for whatever suit made up that rule, I am a legal man myself ...I assume that it is contractually disallowed to create another ways of traveling between the realms than those agreed at the time of update 14.But ... it would not be necessary to create a new way ...The Eberron Hall Of heroes could contain a portal to the breach inside the harbor cavern. Vice versa, the Forgotten Realms Hall could contain a portal to the breach inside the Eveningstar cavern. This portal would not be a "teleport" portal like found in many quests but a literal gateway in place and time. So a player could walk through it without having to load a new area. From a programming point of view, the portal and breach in the Hall together would act like a "copy" of the Eveningstar/harbor breach, but it is not actually a copy: from a lore point of view it is the very same breach - as the portal right before the breach is a gateway to transport the player. Not following me? Compare it to the game Portal, where blue and orange portals could be created by the player to act as gateway. The breach in the Eveningstar cavern could be compared to spot X that the player has to get to to finish the level in Portal - reach X to move on to the next part of the game, with a loading screen. So: the player's goal is to reach spot X. There are 2 ways to get there: either walk a crapload of stairs. This would correspond to walking from the Hall of Heroes or anywhere else in the game to the breach inside for example the Eveningstar cavern. The second way would be to create a blue portal on the wall right next to where you stand and create an orange portal at spot X. Through the blue portal you can see X and you can walk through it without pause or discomfort, ready to finish the level right away. The same can be applied in DDO: a portal in the Hall Of Heroes ("blue portal") connecting to a portal right in front of the breach ("orange portal").Result: In the Halls, the adventurer could see the corresponding breach with some lightshow around it to illustrate the presence of the portal (something artificer-y in Eberron and some magic effect in FR). Using it would result in using the breach in the harbor and Eveningstar without pause or discomfort.Add some extra teleport locations to the breach itself and voil?*, lots of peeps happy.

OK, the above wall of text was not done on purpose. I did include lots of small paragraphs and a nice lay-out for easy reading. And the forum just ate all that formatting and transfered it into a monstrosity?

This is easily the most requested feature for the Hall; your feedback is heard loud and clear. However, behind-the-scenes things have prevented us from adding something like this to the Hall of Heroes, as much as we'd like to. It's not something we can add for U24, but we'll be looking into it for the future, as it's something we know players want.

The purpose was to be sort of a 'hub' space, making getting around easier. In its current incarnation, it has the opposite effect; that's part of why we've moved things around and added a lot more accessibility to things (Airship/Stormreach Teleporter options in Eberron, teleport destinations in the Forgotten Realms) for U24.

Is this not something the Amarath planescaller could be used to bypass.
The planescaller is all about transporting between different realms.

All in All The Hall of Heroes is an interesting walkthrough, but at the end of the day we want a quick and efficient means of transportation between the realms.. so..
Ensure the portal doors are as close as possible to each other.
Keep access to vendors and other NPC's and such near the path of travel between these doors.

We do appreciate any and all improvements to the Hall of Heroes.

I do like that the hall of heroes has had an update, sadly we cannot get the easy transport from FR to Eberon and back.

I think it would be a decent area to relocate the guild vendors to. Maybe not get rid of them in house K (mainly because that would leave a large blank spot) but have them near the airship dock in the hall. this would do two separate things 1. give us an area that could be linked with the guilds a little more, (perhaps even add/move the airship purchasing place to the hall. and 2. let all us selfish guilds have a airship dock even closer to the vendors that we visit at least once a life usualy. and unless I am missing some lore somewhere (either written in ddo, or just FR lore) there is no actual reason for the guild vendors in house K.

but thats my 2 copper pieces.

If for legal reasons we can't have a direct teleport to FR, I'd say the best way to utilize the space for people who put money into the Hall of Heroes would probably be some sort of unique buffs, perhaps some simple minigames with a leaderboard and small prizes, or vendors selling unique items. Clearly, people will go to great lengths to add stacking +1 to damage, saves, or their primary stat, so it should be well received. One stop shopping for common items wouldn't be enough to justify the price for people who dumped TP into buying the Hall.

I liked the idea that someone put forth about clicking the statues for a randomized daily buff. I'd visit the hall every day for a stacking +5 HP, +1 to spell DCs, or a free righteous weapons buff for the day.

As it is right now, the Hall doesn't really serve much of a function outside of a place to go when you're ready to reincarnate. If I need to get to FR, I'll either use my key (how exactly is this good lore, as opposed to simple teleportation?) or the Harbor rift. Personally, the only time I ever set foot in the HoH is when I'm ready to reincarnate.

You guys just keep killing what little immersion there is destroying game lore bit by bit

Pardon me, but if you look at my character compendium link, I'm all about flavor/lore/immersion.

That doesn't mean the hall shouldn't be functional, and right now, I hate it and never use it.

I'd compare it to Misery's Peak or Coalescence Chamber; it doesn't make me feel immersed, it makes me angry that the game designed didn't realize how onerous and uncool the architecture of the space is.

***I would use the hall if***
it were about as small and functional as the Portable Hole, with maximum 10s of running to get where I need to go.
Any amenities after that is just gravy.

To be charitable, the hall looks neat. I just never see it because it's a waste of my time.

Good to know that you have heard our cries which have been going since the first day it went into test, pity nothing significant has happened as yet. While we can understand that there may be technical difficulties, I (and I am sure others) wonder just how hard these are to overcome given that the mechanic already exists via the 'Key to the City' which allows transport from EB to FR. Surely translating this to a two-way realm teleport cannot be that much of an extension? It only adds to the conspiracy theory that it is being held back until you have squeezed out as many sales of the 'Hall of Heroes Passport' as possible. Why not make purchase of this Store feature (or its granting via VIP status) allow access to use the realm transporter instead - i.e. if you are not a VIP, do not have the Key or have not purchased Hall Passport then the realm teleport cannot be used. This gives us the transport access we want while still allowing you to gain the potential sales needed to keep the game funded.

Ideally there should really only be ONE hall with all of the inward access points leading to the same one and it is on leaving that you get the option to choose Eveningstar as just one of the many places that you can exit the hall - this is certainly how I imagined it when it was first advertised and a much more sensible way of implementing the concept than the current dual locations which do nothing.

Stuff in bold has been added in U24
A good start but more needed. To meet its purpose (i.e. a hub space) it needs to be a one stop shop - all vendors, all trainers, all facilities and access to all other locations. You also need to get rid of all the silly running about by logically placing things next to each other. A good example is in the current incarnation you have removed the mailbox from the western end of the EB Hall but left the Auctioneer in place - anyone using that Auctioneer has to either exit the hall or run all the way to the other end to get their purchase. Either replace the mailbox or get rid of the auctioneer - the two should always be right next to each other.

At present the reality is that there is no reason to ever go to the western end of the Hall and it could just be deleted. Best thing would to get rid of all access points down that end so that transport in/out of the hall always occurs at the eastern end where the vendors are located (same goes for FR Hall). The Western end can then be turned into the statue viewing gallery that some have requested.

BTW: Small bug/note on the new airship transport. When you teleport into the hall you get the "Twelve" loading screen instead of the Hall screen and you appear at the useless western end of the hall - this should be changed to have you appear at the useful eastern end at the airship door as per normal airship exit procedure. Also when you teleport off the airship to Three Barrel Cove (big thanks for adding that one - as per below this should be extended to all zones) you get the "Restless Isle" loading screen instead of TBC.

More than a year ago I posted this about the need for better transport facilities:
https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/421816-Public-Transport-facilities-more-airship-towers-and-teleport-arches-needed

Now some of this has become dated by the excellent changes made to airships (love the new facilities, except Thad's - brokers will not buy all gear and no Jewelry broker is disappointing), but the basic premise still stands. We don't want to be wasting time running about or going through multiple loading screens just to get from A to B. Every zone acts as a locus for dungeons and we want to be able to jump in out of these zones quickly and easily so that the focus of the game is dungeon delving, not watching loading screens. IQ and Cannith need an Airship door, the Marketplace needs a teleport arch, anywhere that you can get to via airship or teleport you should also be able to get out of the same way (e.g. flying up to the top of Reavers Reach was fun the first time but now it is just annoying - add in teleport/airship facilities please). Moving about should not be hampered by excess zoning, running or just plain silly stuff.

Now it is understandable that you don't want people just flitting about from dungeon to dungeon like mayflies and never getting involved with each other as that kills off the community aspect of the game, but hampering transport mechanisms is not the way to get people to interact constructively - it just makes us gripe about the damn loading times and memory leak. One of the best community areas I've ever seen is the square outside the Prancing Pony in LOTRO's version of Bree. People meet here to talk, plan activities or just listen to the music (LOTRO's ability for characters to play instruments - priceless stuff). You need a central place like this which is away from the lag of the harbour and marketplace but still has all of the facilities to allow players to conduct business while talking to others. The Hall is a good concept for this but, as you admit, still falls far short of the target. Get all of the vendors and trainers added, make transport trouble free and wide reaching and give folks something new to look at (e.g. 'player hero' statues/paintings that change every month as a style of leaderboard) and you will be taking a bigger step in the right direction.

Keep up the good work - just take it a bit further and think out placement a bit better and the Hall might actually start to lose its 'waste of space' status.

Agree with the others. One Hall of Heroes. Go in Eberron, come out Forgotten Realms. That's all we wanted.

Think of the land of pools in Narnia's The Magician's Nephew. One space with pools that access different worlds. Not a space in each world that only lets you travel in that world. I do not understand unique Halls of Heroes that just have football fields of space and a few amenities,

The concept seems obvious, but apparently it wasn't.

Hey Steelstar,

just am eTRing and 1st chance to check out the new Hall of Heroes.

Nice!

Suggestion:

Who are these people?

You have little plaques by the statues but you can't click on them to read of their heroics.

How about adding some lore to tell us that the Warforged with the spear over his shoulder is General Wyber842 who led the assault of the bla, bla, bla...

But it looks nice ;-)

Even with recent changes, I still have to say that Hall of Heroes is useless. The only thing it's supposed to be,fast travel between eberron and evening, is not there yet, for unknown reason.

What like no Warforged/Bladeforged in Forgotten Realms?
Haven't seen goblins anywhere in Forgotten Realms.
Racial classes like..Gnomes, Tieflings, High elves, moon elves, dragonborn,...

Bridging Realms isn't an easy task, I am sure they need to work within the rules as laid down by WOC.

and... There's still a lot of work still to be done for FR content.

That's an awesome idea. Let's take it a step further: With the decay and trouble in the Realms, the Hall's been overrun with randomly spawning mobs (champions 'n all). Throw in a Velah or a Sorjek now and again too! Now THAT would be an intersting Hall.
