I really wanna do an Eldritch Knight, but I wanna do it right. Wizard/Fighter, or Wizard/Fighter/Rogue. Like the classic Mage/Fighter and Mage/Fighter/Thief multiclasses of AD&D.

Medium or Heavy Armor if possible. Light armor minimum.

Runs into battle with spell and blade, using arcane might and fighting prowess to cut his way through his enemies.

I want to be able to focus on the EK tree itself, as well as the Harper tree. Which I have.

Would a shield be worth it, or should I stick to SWF? Or perhaps THF?

And what race, even? Preferably one that can take additional ASF so that I can actually qualify for medium armor.

You know, that begets the question. If Bard can learn to cast spells in Medium armor with no ASF, why couldn't they have just done that for the EK?

I don't want to take Monk levels or run around in robes. I like PRR and MRR.

Given the changes to how armor and shields work with this last update, it would definitely be in your best interest to use both. Heavy armor if possible. Then add in the harper stuff, and i suspect a character of this type might be among the strongest possible character types in current ddo.

There are items to reduce ASF (http://ddowiki.com/page/Arcane_spell_failure#Reducing_Arcane_Spell_Failure ). There's -35% ASF in the EK tree, although it's still a weak tree as a whole, IMHO. And there's another -15% in the elf/drow racial trees.

Anyway, I took a stab at a Lich Knight (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/449603-Build-Request-Death-Knight?p=5444642&viewfull=1#post5444642): Pale Master + SWF w/orbs, Harper for Strategic Combat + Know the Angles.
